1. During MM's postgame:

Sully:  Who's starting at QB next week?

MM:  We'll have to evaluate that....

    Sully:  So you won't say?

MM:  We'll have to evaluate that....

Sully:  So we could go the whole season like this...

MM:  We'll have to evaluate that...

Sully:  So I guess I'll have to go ask the defense

I'd consider starting Matthews next week. Why not? He played well last year in mop up roles and outplayed both Losman and Holcomb in the preseason.

  2. I'm not sure the Holcomb experiment is going to last long. I thought he'd probably solidified his starting spot in the coaches eyes with a great first three drives, but then he turned right around and may have lost the job with his performance afterward. They could not come close to sustaining a 2nd half drive, had about 70 second half overall yards, and only scored a FG because of McGee. This despite a Miami team that tried to give them the game. Three drive killing second half sacks and that hideous lateral were additional lowlights. Had they lost, I'd say Losman would be back in next week, but the win gives Holcomb a reprieve.

  3. The o-line is horrid - Jerman doesn't deserve to be in the League.  Can't believe he was our backup plan at RT.

That being said, Miami's o-line doesn't have any more talent.  I think I hate to say it but,

    McNally is overrated.

McNally is not overrated. He's just not a miracle worker, as some expected him to be.

  4. Me too, love beating Miami, but they sure helped us a great deal. We still cant stop the run.

    470632

They can't stop the run and in the final 40 minutes of the game, the offense overall looked like it did in the first four games, particularly game 1 vs the Texans.

  5. Unless they're dummies, yeah he is.

Got a couple 1st downs doing it too.

You don't need a great OLine when your QB gets the ball out on time. That's been the biggest difference between Holcombe and Losman imo.

    f&(#

Get them pinned deep and McGee gives up a huge play downfield to a WR he should run circles around. That's a game-changer.

As this game wears on, overall, the Bills are reverting to form from the first quarter of the season. The energy from the QB switch is wearing off and the fundamental problems of the team are beginning to show through.

  6. So are you at least enjoying the game today? A little bit?

    470548

17-0 over Miami at halftime? More than a little bit.

And yes, the Bills are taking a small step towards the results necessary to proving that the QB change was a good move. Still a long way to go, however, and that's all I'm saying.

  7. Well, Holcomb is not going to do this every game, bro.....Even Brady has bad games from time to time. But this is the kind of QB play we've needed for this offense....He's spreading the ball around (6-7 receivers already), moving the chains, not turning it over, and letting Willis get his yards. The defense is getting plenty of time to rest and they're responding with a shutout. I'm not at the Ralph, and I don't have the live feed, but I would bet you MONEY that the fans there are applauding their asses off....maybe even a standing ovation.....This is turning into a great day!!

All I'm saying is that I'm not going to change my opinion based upon a half of football. I'll know in early January whether it was the right move or not. If they don't make the playoffs, we're back at square one for 2006 and have ultimately accomplished nothing in the 2005 season.

That's not a knock against Holcomb, he's playing very well.

  8. Listen, this is the kind of thing we needed Bledsoe to do.....If Holcomb can get it done and avoid the game screwing fumbles and picks that Drew threw, we're golden.....There is nothing JP woudl have done this first half that could have made this any better. For all we know, Holcomb will shine in the offense and he'll be the guy we go to for the next year or two.....THIS IS WHAT WE NEED OUR QB TO DO!!!

As I said, Holcomb is playing better than Losman, at least for a half. But in the end, all I care about is making the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl. I'll settle for making the playoffs and if the Bills can do that with Holcomb, great and I'll say it was the right call. But I will not change my opinion of the decision to bench Losman until that happens. If we miss the playoffs anyway, we would have been better off getting Losman game experience.

  9. I still think its the wrong move. Holcomb is playing well, but I question whether it will last and even if it does, if the team can make the playoffs. In the end, if they miss the playoffs, we'd have been better off starting Losman, even if it means winning 4 games instead of 8. Either way, the Bills are at home in January. Of course, if Holcomb can maintain a high level of play and the Bills make the playoffs, its a different story, but one half of football is not nearly enough to change my opinion of the move.

  10. I agree somewhat, but you wouldn't want a player standing up for what he believes in?

To the detriment of a teammate, especially when Moulds' OWN performance isn't doing Losman any favors? This is a guy who is averaging eight yards per catch this year and has scored six TDs on his last 167 catches or carries dating to the beginning of 2003. If he wants to talk, that's fine, but he needs to back it up on the field.

  11. Moulds needs to be concerned more about his own performance (or lack thereof) rather than worrying about the QB. The big plays have been few and far between for Moulds in recent years. If he put half as much effort into running after the catch as he does running his mouth about the QB position, maybe he'd average more than eight yards per catch?

  12. 2004, his first season:

    95/197 for 48%. 1043 yards in 9 games. 6 TDs. 9 Picks. Rating: 55.4

2005, his second season. So Far:

    66/123 for 54%.  985 Yards in 4 games. 9 TDs. 2 Picks. Rating: 97.8

Hell, Tom Coughlin should have benched him last year. He was obivously a bust with no potential. I mean, if he couldn't make it after his first handful of games, Coughlin should have just given up.

    467985

As I've repeatedly stated, if you want a good comparison statistically, look at Donovan McNabb's rookie year. Through 10 weeks, he was 30/72 for 226 yards and one INT. Yes, that's about 3 yards per attempt, which is hideous. He appeared in 6 games in that time, with his best showing being 68 yards against Carolina (on 20 attempts). He had a nearly identical game the next week vs Washington, going 8/21 for 60 yards.

For the year, he averaged a miserable 4.3 yards per attempt on 216 passes.

The Bills pulled the plug WAY too early.

  13. Easy schmuck.  You're buying into the same b.s. that Donahoe has been stuffing down everyone's throat.  Perhaps everyone grossly overestimated the abilities of this team and their coaching staff.  They (as did I) made Bledsoe the whipping boy, and hid the rest of the team's defficiencies under his.  Now they're doing it with JP.

    466950

This team has been scapegoating the QB for the last ten years. This is just more of the same old crap from the Bills front office.

  14. The Bills need to make a decision this week. Is Losman their QB or is Holcomb? If they aren't going to display enough confidence in Losman to give him the chance to win the game down by only 6 after a bad day, they might as well bench him and draft someone else next year. The QB swapping does no one any good.

  15. Nobody's advocating running him on every play....but when the guy is averaging 4+ ypc, you give him carries. They were running him up to 40 times a game last year and we WON those games. Why these morons go away from the run when it's working is beyond me. Willis should have had twice as many carries as he got this game. There is NO EXCUSE for not using him. We were stopping their running game until the end. If we would have run the friggin ball more this game would have been different.....just like last week.

What Willis had: 16 for 84

What Willis SHOULD have had: 32 for 168

    461430

I'll tell you why: 4th and 1 at midfield and McGahee is tackled as soon as he gets the handoff.

This team can't run the ball when it needs to (and when the other team knows what is coming) due to a poor OL. That's Donahoe's fault and its putting all the pressure on the QB to win games.

  16. If they stick with Holcomb, I think we'll do better than that.....but JP is really stinking it up.

    461324

He's stinking it up, but he's not getting a lot of help, either from his teammates or the coaching staff. For all the crap about asking him to not lose games this past offseason, the Bills have done just the opposite. They run McGahee 15-20 times per game behind an inadequate OL. Losman has become the focus of the offense and the results are about what should be expected.
