1. He's been a starter for almost 20 games now. Yeah, he's a rookie, but you don't expect him to play like total crap after that many starts, which is exactly how he's played the last two weeks against two good teams.

For the record, I had a bad feeling about Roethlisberger prior to the draft and did not want the Bills to select him. While he may make a believer out of me yet, at this point, I would still opt for our first round picks 10 times out of 10 instead of Roethlisberger.

  2. I don't think its a driver issue. At the very least, there should be a signal to the monitor and the computer should try to boot to Windows. If you aren't getting any signal whatsoever to the monitor, I'd try it in another slot (or all of them, if necessary). I would probably try the one closest to the CPU first. If that doesn't work and you still get no signal to the monitor, I'd probably conclude that the board is defective. It will also be incompatible if, as VABills suggested, you're trying to use a PCI express board in a regular PCI slot.

  3. I don't know.  This was his 3rd year.  He had 16 catches all year, and I bet

    about half as many drops.

    214418

The official number was six drops, I believe. In my opinion, dropped passes are the one thing that is inexcusable in a WR. If a WR can't catch, what good is he?

I think Reed has an uphill fight to stay on the roster. He was on the verge of losing the #3 job late this past season to Sam Aiken, a player the Bills seem to like a lot. Given that Freddie Smith will probably be retained as a return man, Reed could find himself in a lot of trouble if the Bills bring in a mid round draft pick at the position to compete for the last couple of roster spots. In the end, my guess is that Reed is going to need an impressive training camp in order to make the final 53 this season.

  4. I know the answer already, but I have a question for you guys...

What are the odds that a R2-7 pick at QB will go on to have a career as a successful, reliable NFL starter for a decent period of time (in other words, leave out the one year wonders)? The 1980-2000 drafts are probably a good place to look.

  5. OK Brandon... please let me know which 20 teams Schobel would start for. He's a RDE. I can only come up with Cleveland, KC, SD, Denver, & Jax in the AFC.  In the NFC, Niners, Seattle, Rams. That ain't even a third.  So, who are the rest?  and remember... there are a few teams that had a starting RDE or two on their IR.

Schobel is an average DE at best.... I can't think of any LTs thatlose sleep knowing they're going to have to face him.

    208889

If Schobel is average, wouldn't that imply that he could start on about half the teams in the league? Basically, all I did was call Schobel a somewhat above average player. I didn't say he was Jevon Kearse's long lost twin.

  6. I can understand why a team wouldn't interview Jerry Gray. Look at the talent he has to work with. When a guy like Aaron Schobel, who could probably start for 2/3rds of the teams in the NFL, is only the 7th or 8th best player on the D, good defense is expected of Gray. He's going to have to continue building that resume for a while longer.

  7. >>>>> The Bills need two good, proven OTs to protect Losman while he's learning.<<<<<

    This is of course providing:

    1) He is capable of playing, even at a poor level, in the NFL.

    2) The premise that nobody brushes up against him and places him in traction while he is walking from his car to the football stadium.

    208709

Well, if its not Losman, its going to be some other young QB in a year or two who will need that pass protection as well.

  8. Why?

Jennings is a good player, but clearly not in the top 10 OL (thus LT) cap hit range ($7 million average cap hit for the top 5 OL players, $6 million average for the top 10).

The Pro Bowl voting obviously has it limitations, but as it includes coaches and player assessments it cannot be disregarded and Jones, Pace and Thomas are all FAs who made it and Jennings didn't.  I think this reflects reaity that they are all better and more consistent performers than Jennings.

The relative expense of these highly regarded players may be your answer, but this introduces lower paid players into the equation, getting Jennings for near Walter Jones money seems like a less bang for the buck deal than moving Try Teague to LT for Trey Teague money which is far less than Jones or Jennings are likely to receive.

    So again why?

    208667

Why? Jennings is a good football player who has proven that he can play that position very effectively. If the Bills let him go, they risk not being able to find a replacement. If they move Teague to LT, assuming he succeeds there (questionable given his time in Denver), who plays C??? You'd just be moving the problem around by doing this, and would likely weaken the overall play of the LT-LG-C portion of the OL in the process. I very seriously doubt Teague will be as good a LT as Jennings.

Just bite the bullet and pay the guy, even if it means paying a little too much. The Bills need two good, proven OTs to protect Losman while he's learning. They've got one, Jennings, and Williams is beginning to live up to the draft position. Now is not the time to start tinkering with it.

  9. anyone hear the jackass announcer saying a helmet to helmet was legal as long as the WR catches it...wtf did that come from...helmet to helmet is NEVER legal...the bastard better be fined, but he wont...

    207639

Yeah, that was an unbelievable comment by Simms. Everyone knows that helmet-to-helmet hits are always illegal...unless of course its a Patriot defender who does it. Then its a great play.

  10. the pats have done more to overcome major injuries than any team in nfl history, and yet people are still foolish enough to make statements such as "Their season is over" because of one player.

    Have you learned NOTHING?

    207309

Their season certainly is not over. I'd place the odds that the Patsies will win the Super Bowl this season somewhere around 100%.

  11. I think Donahoe would argue that he got most of the mileage he expected out of the Bledsoe trade. He was a veteran stopgap that could keep the Bills reasonably competitive until Donahoe could a) rebuild the team's talent base, and b) find a young QB to takeover. Bledsoe largely filled that role and now that Donahoe appears to have finished both of those tasks, Bledsoe is expendable and the Bills hopefully have a better player waiting to replace him in Losman.

  12. Im gonna take it a step further and off on a tangent. I think the reason he TD went here with a paycut demand MAY be in part due to targeting some high paid STUD!

I bet that TD saw a reported restructure from Moulds, knew his cap situation, and figured additional cap savings from Drew would put him in the running for some STAR at a need position. My guess:

WALTER JONES!!!! I dont think he will be tagged by Sea. I think they tag Alexander instead and Jones is available.

Jonas ISNT a top tier LT, yet, but will demand fairly big money. I b et TD looks at it and says, Id rather pay some more and get a STAR!

He may even have in mind adding 2 stars!

    207200

I don't see it happening. I suspect that he's just looking at the reality of the situation, that the Bills are better off spending Bledsoe's salary elsewhere and taking their chances with Losman. They'll probably retain their own FAs while signing a solid, if unspectacular FA or two like they did with Villarial.

  13. I think you are on to something.  Even if TD wants to just keep our own FA's, he needs cap room.  Drew may realize that getting 1 mil holding a clipboard is better than being out of football.  I can't see any team giving Drew a chance to start.

    PTR

    207203

Oh, I don't know about that. There are some teams out there with some BAD Qbs that would give Bledsoe a chance at starting. Baltimore, Cleveland, Miami, Arizona, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit (if Harrington is released) and San Francisco are all teams that might be willing to give Bledsoe a shot. And I wouldn't blame them. Sure, he's mediocre at this point in his career, but that's better than terrible.

  14. It shouldn't be a shocker. Bledsoe stunk up the joint in the biggest game of his Bills career against a bunch of Steeler backups. Just given that fact alone, his job would be on thin ice. But, contrary to the opinions of a few fans, the Bills did not draft JP Losman to hold a clipboard. If the Bills do cut Bledsoe, they will bring in a veteran Qb and there probably will be a 'competition' for that starting spot, but unless he's absolutely awful, expect Losman to be the starting QB this upcoming season if Bledsoe is released.

  15. Barry Sanders had tons of rushes for negative yards, but the good were so goods they made up for the bad.  I look at Vick's sacks the same way.  You might stop him a couple of times, but eventually he will burn you bad and make up for the negative plays.

    207086

How many winning seasons did the Lions have with Barry Sanders in the backfield? Not all that many. While he was one of my favorite players, I realize that he actually hurt his team with all of that freelancing and losing so much yardage.

As for Vick, I don't know, maybe the Falcons will win the Super Bowl with him. Who knows? But that still will not change my opinion of him as a RB playing QB. He's got great athleticism, no doubt, and he's got a strong arm, but I'm not sold on him in terms of intangibles as a QB. If he were to get injured tomorrow and lose a lot of that speed for the rest of his career, what kind of QB would he be? Probably a pretty ordinary one. If you could give me any QB currently in the league, to this point, Vick would not make my top 10 list. He might make the top 20. If I'm looking for a mobile QB, I'd much rather have a QB like Culpepper or McNabb.

  16. I think the best fit would be Detroit. There a good young team on the move.

The Lions drafted Kevin Jones this year and he's had a successful rookie season. I don't believe they'd be interested in Henry.

It really wouldn't suprise me to see him traded to a playoff team for a late 1st on the day of the draft if the top RBs are gone towards the end of R1. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia come to mind. Pittsburgh would probably be a more likely destination, given that the Steelers' top two RBs are older than dirt and that they don't ask their RBs to do much besides just running the ball.

In any event, I don't believe the Bills will be willing to trade him for less than they have invested, which is a late 2nd round pick. Even in that situation, I suspect that they would want a conditional pick in the 2006 draft.
