  1. Well the "cherry picked draft" information is more about who the Falcons would've picked. They liked Demarco Murray and likely would've taken him instead of Little. Taylor wouldn't have fit so they would've likely chosen someone else or traded down. Julius Thomas may have been selected as a successor to TG. And maybe one of those o-linemen could've helped them fix their terrible o-line. We'll see on the Bills trade. I'm not against it because it's done and over with and we got a hell of a player out of it.

Again, I ask anyone "Who is this great QB in next years draft that's going to take the Bills to the playoffs and beyond"?( not named Jameis Winston) I really believe that many of the EJ Manuel bashers are pissed that the Bills didn't draft Johnny Manziel. I wonder how the draftniks would rate the draft had they somehow acquired Manziel?

This is just laziness based on not knowing. Just because you don't know anything about next year's draft doesn't mean there aren't top-tier QBs available. The year RGIII came out he was a third-round pick who many thought would have to switch positions (not me as I correctly predicted he would win the Heisman and be a high pick). Marcus Mariota is arguably already better than Winston. Then there is Brett Hundley, Bryce Petty and a few more potential first-round picks.

The notion that there is no chance that the team would consider a QB high in the 2015 draft is laughable. If EJ gets hurt multiple times (or once major) this year or just plays terrible then they'll look at other options. You don't sit around and wait in this league anymore.

  3. The issue with Manning is the future. If you win with him this year, that is outstanding. But then you are drafting late in the 2nd round at the earliest for your next QB. This could be his last year.

It doesn't matter. If you win one Super Bowl then all else is irrelevant for the time being. This franchise has never won. You take the guy that gives you the best shot to do it right now.

its been awhile since we have had his type of talent at WR.... itll be interesting to see how posters react when he messes something up thats incredibly difficult but due to his athleticism and other big plays looks like a play he should have made.

Honestly, when have we had this type of talent at WR? Pure talent-wise, he may be the best we've ever had...

  5. I don't think it's fair to judge draft trades based on what the team acquiring the picks do with them, but based on what the team that traded up would have likely done with those picks.

So it'd be better to look at the players picked at or just behind the selections traded away and see what the team needs were at the time. Could the Falcons have addressed the terrible offensive and defensive lines with those picks they traded away? That'd be interesting to see.

So in a few years if we look back and say "Watkins is fantastic, but man he needs a good QB" and the first rounder next year ends up being at 10 while a QB who stars at the NFL level goes 11-13 then you might say we lost because we missed a chance to address the real need. However, the hope is that the team doesn't have such a glaring need next year.

  6. I see just about nobody here knows a lick about Pollock. He's a good guy and Western New York's best writer. He doesn't write for page-clicks or number of readers. He doesn't give a ****.

He gets a lot of inside info but never jumps to share it because he doesn't care about being first (for example, he knew about Lee Evans' extension for almost a week before anybody reported it but never said anything. He told me about it and then a week later I saw it on ESPN).

  7.

No specific veteran mentioned, just there is a receiving corp and running game in place that would help attract a free agent QB if that was needed. I haven't heard the idea before. It would be a viable plan B if EJ doesn't progress this year.

There's an entire thread dedicated to the idea...

  8.

Ceded. Typically, no, they're not. But James Harrison, Wes Welker, Jeff Saturday and FJ would tell you that's not always the case.

I'm not cheerleading for Crabtree, or any other player in particular. I can see not bringing in a Lyerla, if you think he could be a cancer in the room, or a Finley, given the nature of his injury. I'm just saying, we're getting there roster-wise, why not turn over every reasonable stone to punch up each and every position group as we gear up for a playoffs or bust campaign? The Bills seem to be doing it with the RBs. Hell, we're even plucking guys off of active rosters now! (see B. Brown).

Bryce Brown and Tom Crabtree are two completely different situations.

  9. I'm amazed that Jax didn't take the trade down deal. Who in the world was going to take Bortles before 9?

Did Cleveland have Bortles ahead of Manziel on their draft board?

For a team that really needs a spark to save it's franchise, Jax could've got their man and had 2 1st rounders next year and two 4th rounders.

Cleveland, Tampa and Minnesota would've probably all considered it as well as trade up chances. If you like a QB as your franchise guy you don't !@#$ around. You take him.

... Unless it's a guy like EJ Manuel that you KNOW isn't going before you trade down. Bortles was a possible pick for other teams.

  10. Not a knock on your post cause I love the stat prediction but sadly a 7 game win season says it all. We have the talent on the roster to be better than that as we were last year. Again, depending on what Hackett dials up and if the ground game can get established I see better than 7. The battles won or lost in the trenches and if we can control that I see 10+ wins. I've been as eason ticket holder for years and how nice would it be to dial-up some post season tixs

Well I'm going in with very low expectations, mind you. I would take 7 wins if it meant he quarterbacked all of those games and played at a reasonable level. However, I would expect us to win 8-10 if he actually does that.

  11. The way that Whaley manipulated this draft is a work of art. We got Mike Williams, Bryce Brown, and a whole lot of rookies, including the best WR in the draft, and 3 gargantuan homo sapiens to keep EJ safe and warm.......and to blow holes for Fred, CJ and Bryce. This offense could become a force of nature. Big time. People will fear us. We will crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and we will hear the lamentation of their women.

Agreed except Bryce Brown wasn't traded for any of this year's picks, and we won't be feared until we have a QB who can play at an NFL level. We'll see if EJ can do that.

  12. who else is in Tampa to give the ball to on offense? ... you had to think about it a second, right?

No. I didn't have to think about it for a second. At all. They have Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin, two of the top player at their position...

About your point on Glennon: I absolutely love Glennon and think he'll be a star QB someday given the chance. He'll be the best QB out of his class, again, if given a chance. Hopefully Manuel can have something to say about that.

  13. The stats comparison of Stevie and Mike Williams is pretty interesting. They're different types of wide receivers, but they're close considering Stevie was clearly the number one target while Mike wasn't.

Stevie Johnson: 526 targets, 289 receptions, 3,720 yards, 26 TDs, 12.9 YPC in 60 games (4.8 receptions, 62 yards, 0.4 TDs per game)

Caught 55% of his targets, 7.1 yards per target, 0.05 TDs per target

Starting QBs: Ryan Fitzpatrick (45 games), EJ Manuel (9 games), Thad Lewis (2 games), Trent Edwards (2 games), Brian Brohm (1 game)

Mike Williams: 418 targets, 215 receptions, 2,947 yards, 25 TDs, 13.7 YPC in 54 games (4 receptions, 54.6 yards, 0.5 TDs per game)

Caught 51% of targets, 7.1 yards per target, 0.06 TDs per target

Starting QBs: Josh Freeman (40 games), Mike Glennon (3 games), Josh Johnson (1)

The one stat I can't find a good number on is drops. Stevie had 7 this year and 11 in 2012. Mike Williams had 1 this year (in 6 games) and less than 7 in 2012 (exact number not sure). Chances are Stevie has many more drops.
