Why is Watkins more likely to be selling cars in a few years? I'm not sure if you may have missed the first 16 Bills games this year, but by all accounts, he's - at the very least - the 2nd best rookie wide receiver in the NFL. And he hasn't had the luxury of a decent QB/offense.

As I write this, I realize I'm being trolled and I hate myself a little for falling into another trap of stupidity. But since you created an entirely new word (undoubtably), I'm going to play along one last time.

Actually, by most accounts he's the 3rd or 4th best rookie receiver this year. Not that it takes away from your point.

  2. Sammy makes the game look easy. It's a trait of the great ones. The other receivers taken, albeit have excellent physical tools and decent production, don't have what Watkins has. Perhaps he had less opportunities due to the overall ineffectiveness of the offense, the limitations of the QBing and injuries. Just try to stop this guy next year.

I don't think you've watched ODB or Mike Evans... Not to mention that Evanshas better stats with a similarly poor QB situation.

You know why Whaley made the trade?

    Lemme guess, sources deep within?

*edit* Re-read this, realized it comes off confrontational. Not my intent. Just pointing out that you have no idea what Whaley wanted.

Why else do you give up two firsts to move up five (was it four?) slots for a WR?

  4. I can't imagine a scenario where moving up to get Watkins was a panic move. Whaley's mistake, IMO, was in the PR department, when he said he expected Watkins to be the player to get the Bills to the playoffs.

There's a solid chance it was a bit of panic. He wanted to make a splash to show he has "it" as a GM.

  5. I think he panicked more with Cujo than with Sammy. They forced that pick because the plan going into the draft was to upgrade the OL, the guy was badly beaten all pre-season. IIRC, it wasn't a very good draft for offensive fat guys.

Zach Martin and Joel Bitonio are both looking like elite guards.

You do realize Seattle the defending Super Bowl champions are a run first team and San Fran was primarily a run first team under Harbaugh getting to 3 consecutive conference championship games and one Super Bowl losing to the Ravens who most would say were also a run first team.

I still believe that you win the game at the line of scrimmage and being able to run and stop the run is just as important now as it was 20 years ago especially when you don't have a top 5 QB

Do we have a Marshawn Lynch playing at a hall of fame level? Frank Gore in his prime? Funny how easy it is to be run first with Lynch or pass first with Manning. The players dictate the great systems.

  7. Really? On Sirius they were saying Cutler would only be successful being matched with Martz again. That's where I got Martz's name from.

I know he has been away for a while but so was Gailey. In the right role I think Martz would be helpful, but I would be weary of bringing in someone who might get too far over the next guys shoulder.

They clearly don't know Martz and Cutler's history. They hate each other. Martz trashed Cutler before getting hired by Chicago. It was going well but then fell apart and Cutler said that he wanted somebody to tell Martz to "go !@#$ himself."

  8. Anyone mention Mike Martz? He's had success in the past and after hearing him mentioned on Sirius it got me thinking. If anything going forward bringing in Martz to work with our QB and/or our OC would help.

He's a lot like Chan Gailey.

He's been away for a while. Would also completely shut down any Cutler talk.

  9. I think your logic for #2 applies to every other bills team of the last 15 years but not to this team.... There are a couple attractive things we have now:

    1. Stable Ownership (most important factor)

    2. May be willing to offer him full control over personell

    3. Talented defense with depth and plenty of young talent

    4. Pegula can afford to pay him

    5. He would be a god in this town the day he signed.

I'm not interested in offering him personnel control in the slightest. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that he has any clue about personnel. He may also not be interested in that.

He already has a contract. If he's in the NFL he's likely not getting a gigantic raise over what he already has.

  10. Cut/do not sign:

    Spiller

    Lawson

Orton (if he opts in it still saves money to cut him)

    Chris Williams

    Gay

    Lee Smith

    Extend/re-sign:

    Hughes

    Searcy

    Dareus

Mario Williams (restructure by turning salary into bonuses with a one/two year extension)

    Spikes (will come cheap)

    Sign/acquire:

A legitimate QB (Cutler, RG3, Eli, Brees if the Saints get cold feet on extension, a few other potential options)

    Iupati

    Line depth on both sides

Julius Thomas/Jordan Cameron if not outrageous deals

    Draft:

    A QB

    A guard

A TE if you don't sign one

    A RB

    Depth all over
