  2. It is all political grandstanding, the Dems are simply trying to change the discourse from how inept Obama has been on the VA issue to "Wow, look at those Dems! They are soooo compassiiioonnaattee! Look at how they are sticking up for the poor Native Americans!"

Except the issue of the name has been going for decades now... Nice try.

Let's all be genuine for a second and ask ourselves, is the team name Washington Redskins intended to be offensive? Nope. Does the organization involved take real steps to offend, denigrate, or harm the affected people? No. So what are we really talking about here? The name of a football team that could be interpreted as offensive, but is not intended that way. But that would mean people would need to look into the substance and context of something rather than just being outraged. Being outraged is easier and more exciting.

To answer your first question: probably. Google George Preston Marshall.

  3. Listen, this "aren't there real issues" or "wow our tax dollars are being wasted on this!?" **** is unbelievably ignorant. They aren't ignoring the other things you think they should be spending 100% of their time on (NO SLEEP!!!!). There's only so much they can do about a certain issue at a given time. It's not like a few guys going after the Washington Racists is holding all of the government down. Stop being lazy and just cherry picking for a chance to insult the government. There's a lot of work to be done, and there are many places you can insult them... Worrying about things that have a negative or offensive impact on hundreds of thousands isn't one of them.

  4.

This is one of the most childish things I've ever seen.

Also, let's stop playing with percentages. "90% of Native Americans polled don't find the term offensive..." Well, they're admitting that 10% polled DO find it offensive. That's 300,000 in the US alone. You're okay with offending 300,000 people?

But let's me be honest... It's more than 10%. Realistically I'd bet it's more like 20-30% which would be between 600,000 to 1,000,000 people.

  5.

That offends me, I'm an American and I don't want any association with that team, implied or otherwise.

    Haha fair enough

Regardless of your opinion of the offensiveness of the name, the government has no business getting involved.

Disagree 10000000%. The public funds so much for these franchises. The NFL is also tax exempt. If you're going to take those advantages you're going to follow some rules. Not being racist should be one of them.

  6. I get that there's a lot of tradition behind the Redskins name and it was never meant to be pejorative in the first place. However, the National Council of American Indians, the Oneida Nation, the Navajo Nation, the Heart of America Indian Center, and other Indian organizations have condemned the name as offensive.

Even Merriam-Webster defines "redskin" as a "usually offensive" word for an American Indian.

If you were talking with a group of full-blooded American Indians would you say, "I think American Indians should..." or, "I think Redskins should..." Personally, I wouldn't refer to Indians as "Redskins" for fear of offending them.

It's time for the name to be changed.

Agreed on all accounts EXCEPT the notion that its original use wasn't meant to be offensive. The team's original owner is an all-time bigot who hated all things non-white.

  7. I'd tell Senate to stick it. This country is over offended and over Sensitive. Rub some dirt on it and get over it. More extremist, butt hurt liberals who are the very loud minority finding something else to be 'Offended' about.

Seriously, this is ridiculous. It's easy to be ignorant to a racist term that the nation's capital team has used for years, but it doesn't make it right. The name should be changed. End of story.

I love these "but only 10% of Native Americans find it offensive." Those polls are slanted, and why not choose a name that offends 0% of people instead of offending people at all?

I used to feel the way you did till I talked with an American Indian and he told me he grew up on a reservation and their high school mascot was the redskins and none of them found it offensive, interestingly enough a lot of them find the term natives offensive because it makes them sound primitive.

This is akin to "I have friends that are gay" or "I have black relatives." You know one small group that isn't offended, yet I know a small group that is. Experiences will differ, but if it's offensive or reminding of worse times for any then it should be changed. The "r-word" is on the same level as the "n-word." It's just easier to ignore since we don't interact with as many Native Americans on a daily basis.

  8. When I watched that game my thoughts were that Sammy just played himself from a 1at round pick to a top 10 pick. Who knew it would be the #9 pick, a 2015 1st, and a 2015 4th.

Without that game Watkins may have been available at #9.

Not that I hate the trade just that that game was so impressive in all aspects of being a WR it couldn't help but send his draft stock into the atmosphere.

I hope he can translate to every Sunday in the NFL.

Uhh... No. Sammy was a top 10 pick before this game. This game only solidified what was already thought about him. His workouts pushed him from top 10 lock to top 5 lock.

  9. unless he gets hit and doesnt get up

Same can be said for any QB in the league...

Thats just not true . for shame . Luck will be a semi-legend for the Colts no doubt , but dont discount EJ yet

Right now it is true. The best EJ has shown so far wouldn't be anywhere near Luck's best. Luck's average is better than Manuel's best so far. Which isn't saying much since Manuel has only played ten games so far. Hopefully Manuel changes that this season.

  10. Jerry Jones disagrees with you. And that man has a few rings for his fingers.

Around this league not many more respected offensive coaches are thought of better then Gailey. He was and is known for making the most out of the very least. His stats on offense prove it. Look at yardage and points on teams he worked the offense. I remember his numbers improved for the single season he was in Miami. I remember similar with Dallas. And I do not remember every detail for Buffalo, but I know that it wasn't any better last year.

Jerry Jones hasn't been too good at judging talent/ability in quite some time. I think Gailey was solid, but nothing special. I also doubt he's near the top of anybody around the league's list of respected offensive coaches. I remember a few former NFL personnel men saying they didn't really understand the hire of Gailey who had been unemployed for two years prior to Buffalo hiring him.

  11. Gailey is a genius when it comes to taking a crappy QB and turning him into a pretty productive one. He's smart in crafting an offense to basically match his personnel and make up for the talent limitations.

It's why a guy like Kordell Stewart was an all-pro under him and he could squeeze almost 4000 yards passing out of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Stewart was a Pro Bowler, not an All Pro. BIG difference. And it wasn't while Gailey was his offensive coordinator.

He did craft an offense that could eat up yardage with a lot of simple routes, but he never crafted an offense that allowed the team to compete when it got behind (I know, the Patriots game is an exception). The team only had four 4th quarter comebacks in four years.

  12. Had to break down the poor points in your post... Here goes.

So RGIII was considered a 3rd rd pick? The Redskins gave up a king's ransom for a 3rd rd pick?

This part was because of a mistake on my end. I know I said "the year he came out," but I meant going into that season. He was projected as a third/fourth round pick going into his final year at college. McShay (an idiot) said that he may have to change positions. Then he had that crazy season and shot up the boards.

And your bashing the Bills for giving up a 2015 1st rd pick for arguably the best player in this years draft? You sound as though you work for Fix news. When was RGIII ever considered a 3rd pick that possibly had to change positions? I'd like to know the source of that information.

I'm not bashing the Bills. I am just saying that blindly stating that there are no QBs in the 2015 draft AND stating that there's no chance Buffalo will consider one if EJ fails is laughable.

Now as for the QBs you listed as potential candidates in the 2015 draft many of them aren't any better than those that went later in this years draft. Hundley, Petty, Mariota there was a reason they stayed in school and it wasn't academics.

Actually, Petty did return for academic reasons. He promised that he would stay and get his degree, and he's fulfilling that promise. He would've likely been a first-round or, at worst, an early-second round selection had he come out.

Mariota likely went back because he wants to win a championship with Oregon. He would've been a top-five pick, and, quite possibly, the number one overall pick of this draft had he come out.

Hundley stayed in because, while he would've gotten high grades and went high, he knows he has a little bit more to work on. By 2015 he could very well be complete and find himself in the top ten.

If you really think that Mariota is as good/better than Winston then I question your football aptitude. Winston played 1 year in college and took his team to the championship. Mariota had a talent laden team for years and couldn't accomplish this feat.

I didn't say this. I said arguably. Some experts already say that Mariota is better. Or have him going higher because he hasn't done the dumb things that Winston has done. Mariota is nearly as talented and far less risky off the field.

Teams don't sit and wait for QBs to develop anymore, then apparently you didn't listen to what the Jaguars said they were going to do with their 3rd pick in the draft. I guess I'm not the only lazy one for not knowing!

There's a large difference, and it's stupid to ignore. The Jaguars are sitting their guy because they think he's best suited waiting a year. Manuel has already played. Teams aren't as likely to sit there for three years and watch a guy get hurt constantly and then perform poorly. Manuel will have to step up and stay healthy sooner rather than later.

  13. I hope you weren't serious about Chan Gailey, JBoys. A lot of people have said that Gailey is a great OC but not great head coach. What is this based on? He was never an offensive coordinator at any place for more than a single season. He never did anything that I thought made him appealing as a head coach or OC. Still think that he was one of the worst hires in NFL history. He was only hired because the team didn't have options.

  14. I love Sammy and think he is going to be great for the Bills, but JJ is on a different planet than Sammy.

While I agree, I was just saying that a combination of Larry Fitzgerald and CJ Spiller would be Julio Jones. I'm actually surprised that Sammy has drawn comparisons to Julio Jones and some have said he'll be better.

  15. Andrew Luck will go down as the greatest QB of all time, the Colts are the luckiest franchise of all time given the fact that they were able to draft both He and Manning

    Bold prediction, cotton.

    For me, it's Andrew Luck.

Manning & Brady aren't going to be around much longer. Aaron Rodgers is great, but I gotta go with the younger Luck.

No love for Phillip Rivers? I think the guy is a stud.

So Skelton is listed, but Nick Foles isn't? Hmmm.

I love Philip Rivers. I wouldn't pick him over the others, but he's the most entertaining QB in the league. Very unpredictable, big-time fire, plenty of talent. I hope he wins one soon because that'd be fun to watch. Rivers vs Cutler in the Super Bowl would be entertaining.
