I've seen it mentioned a few times, but my wife and I both enjoyed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Genuinely funny with a good plot. The guy that played Lenny Bruce is dead on. I know it's not a streaming original, but This Is Us is better than I ever wanted to admit. -

Yes. Never made a pole in my life. But I save up my Meadcoin© enough to buy a Gold Membership™ and make pools. -
This is also why I'm such a big fan of tribute bands. A lot of the older bands that are still technically around, only have a small amount of remaining members, and essentially are a tribute band. But because they can trace their lineage back to the original band, can charge original band prices. Tribute bands are cheap or free, and sound more like the original band than a lot of these bands.

Usually Coke Zero for me.

You should see what they do to Doo-***** groups. The Coasters, Drifters, etc. Because they were all 4/5 part vocal harmony groups, if one member demanded more money, they'd just replace him. Every album they'd record with at least one or more member that wasn't there. So around the 70's or so, some of these guys that were in the group for a year or two would tour under the band name. There were like four band's called The Coasters. Lately, they've been finding one older black guy who can sing but was never in any of these groups, and pairing them with three or four younger guys. People will pay to see them, assume the older guy is an original member, but he isn't. They've tightened up on that a bit, but there will still be loopholes. "The Coasters Revue," "Bill Johnson's Drifters," "The Original Platters." Which doesn't necessarily mean they're the original group, it's just a technicality that that's a different band name than The Platters. The Temptations did that for a while, but Otis Williams (the only original member, and bass singer), tightened that up real quick. Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, the original bassist and drummer tour with a John Fogerty sound alike and call themselves Creedence Clearwater Revisited. I've seen them a few times, they're pretty good, but they acknolege in the show that they're not the full band. Despite the bad blood between them, they always acknoledge that most of the songs they're playing (save for a few covers CCR did), were written by their former bandmate John Fogerty. Skynyrd at one point had a deal with the surviving wives of Ronnie and Steve who died in the crash that they receive what would be their equal share of the tour money. The stipulation was that there had to be at least two pre plane crash members in the band. Recently, they got by on what to me feels like a technicality. They had Gary Rossington, who's been there since day one. Then they got Rickey Medlocke, who was their drummer. Left before they got big to form Blackfoot, and is now in the band as a guitarist. Whenever an older band that I don't follow very well announces a tour, I always go to Wikipedia. They usually have a member timeline there, and you can see just how long each band member has been there. It's crazy how many of them have one person from the bands beginning, or at least prime, with a bunch of unknown members.

Charity Walk-a-thons, 5Ks, etc, don't really do anything. The entry fee may be going towards a noble cause, but you can donate money and have it be the end. The event itself is simply a way for you to show off how charitable you are. -

Agreed. An even more controversial opinion I hold, military service, even combat service, doesn't automatically make you a hero. Not saying the military never does anything heroic, but just being in the military shouldn't automatically gain you hero status. Our nation, especially after 9/11, has had a problem with military hero worship. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we should go back to the days of Vietnam where people spit on soldiers and called them baby killers. But I think in an effort to right that wrong, we drove into the other ditch. -

Incorrect. While I agree that the Devil's section was more enjoyable, his fiddle playing wasn't that great. The band of demons are what made it sound so great. The piano, the guitar riff. Take all of that away, and the fiddle playing is average at best. If it was a musical competition, this would be correct. But it wasn't. It was a fiddle competition, and Johnny played a better fiddle than the devil. Surprisingly deep theological concept actually. All throughout the Bible, the Devil has nothing good to offer, but deceives people into thinking that he's offering the better deal. -
Ed Oliver to visit Buffalo
The Real Buffalo Joe replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have no idea how happy this would make me. I'd immediately go out and buy a red jersey with his name on it. Not necessarily because he'd be my favorite player. But because I have season tickets to UH. So I could wear that on Saturday night, and if I get too drunk and sleep it off in my car, the Bills bar is five minutes away, and I'm already dressed for that. -
Do you post here from work often?
The Real Buffalo Joe replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah. Literally only from work. I said something against the guidelines once on a Friday afternoon and got banned for the weekend. Didn't even know I was banned till I got to work Monday morning and saw the message. -

I enjoyed it for what it was. It wasn't as good as the first. And wasn't anything Oscar worthy. But I laughed. I saw it at the $2 theater, and say I got my money's worth. -

Apparently Andy Warhol thought it was better than the first and was one of the greatest movies he'd ever seen. -

The letter C is completely irrelevant, and there's nothing it can do that an S or K can do. Other than CH, which makes a sound that should probably constitute it's own letter. -

TV Shows You Want Revived
The Real Buffalo Joe replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Many family sitcoms go downhill when kids start to age. They bring in a new kid or grandkid, and recycle plots from when the older sibling was that age a few decades ago. Perfect example is when the Olsen twins stopped being babies, Full House had Jesse's twins. -
TV Shows You Want Revived

Oh yeah. Then Manger Babies gets picked up nationally, and they move to LA. While we'll never hear Luanne again, they can pay tribute by putting billboards etc in the background for the show. That 80s Show. And it sucked. While That 70s Show relied on the humor of the fully developed characters, while they were living in the 70s, this show was essentially a drawn out SNL skit where every joke was "Ha ha. We're in the 80s. Get it!"
