Day 5 Camp Notes:
JUST IN!!
Marcell Dareus spoke to the media after practice and said he needs to drink more water to avoid hamstring tweaks.
Ya think!
-
-
Buffalo Bills turn a 4th round pick into a 7th round pick,,, NICE!
Actually, they probably did a good job getting something for him. + 1
-
McDermott has heaped praise on Dareus' attitude, preparation, and conditioning this offseason. If he wasn't doing everything that's being asked of him, I'm sure the new regime would not cover for him.
Possibly. I'm not that familiar with McDermott, however a new HC talking up one of his core players who has had issues both on and off the field is not anything unusual.
They're stuck with him, good or bad, and both sides know it.
I hope he can stay on the field plays well this season.
-
I got no problem continuing to look for and draft replacements at the most important position on the field
I just want people to understand it can EASILY be worse while we continue to do that.
Actually, it can't really be much worse, certainly not EASILY....
The coaching staff did their best to hide TT last year and almost did so behind the best running game in the league.
Expect more of the same this year....
-
By all accounts MD showed up to camp in the best shape of his pro career.
... and he STILL can't make it through 2 days of camp???
What does that say, really... IDK...
-
@adamschefter
Bills DT Marcel Dareus tweaked his hamstring and could miss some camp time.
... and in other news, water is wet.
-
Let's hope he makes it through camp healthy...
-
Another Whaley gem.
well, at least the Bills realize that they want nothing to do with seeing him throwing passes for Buffalo.
-
The sacks were attempted passes, methinks, from a sack rate perspective. If he weren't sacked they'd have been passes anyway. IDK I looked it up on pro football reference.
OK. Well, it's just pretty bad let's say, given the attempts and yards/game passing.
-
Weird. His sack % is 8.8, not 10. Goff and Kaep were higher last year.
In 2015, his sack % was 8.7. Kaep, Mariota, Bridgewater, and ASmith were all equal or higher.
Again, it's fine to say it needs to improve, but why embellish? The stats are readily available.
Weird: ? 432 attempts / 42 sacks = 10.38 I hope!
Team sacks has 8.8.

Not saying this doesn't need to be fixed, but I think it's overstated. He was sacked 42 times last year. Luck, Dalton, and Wilson were all sacked 41 times last year. In 2015, Bortles was sacked 51 times. Rodgers 46, Wilson 45, ASmith 45, Tannehill 45, Stafford 44, Bridgewater 44.
Over the 2 year span Wilson, Bortles, Rodgers, and Stafford have all been sacked more than Tyrod. It's not a coincidence that all of those QBs but Stafford are also in the Top 6 for rushing yards over the same span.
Yeah, but Dalton and Wilson had 100 more attempts than TT. Bortles had almost 200 MORE attempts than TT in 2016.
TT was sacked every 10 attempts last year: that's Rob Johnson territory I think.
-
TT. was sacked more than any QB in the NFL this past season. Fix that too.
-
For me, if he is going to remain there are a few things that I need to see. Gross stats mean nothing at all to me. I care about 3rd down efficiency, RZ efficiency, TD to Int and a high yards per attempt. If those things happen the offense's will be rolling.
-
People are funny.
Folks have no trouble trusting that he'll miss significant time despite the fact that he started 29 of a possible 32 games prior to last season.
How about we apply "I'll believe it when I see it" to ALL scenarios, since it's all speculation at this point?
He's always hurt/injured.
How man games do you think he will start 100 % healthy this year? 16?
-
@shannshep4
Two items tonight: I can confirm free agent WR Anquan Boldin will be visiting the #Bills on Monday (1/2)...
I am also told #Bills WR Sammy Watkins will be 100% ready to go for training camp. (2/2)
What are the odds Sammy completes the pre-season and training camp 100 %?
-
Gilmore played when he felt like it and was soft: 2 things Bills fans don't and won't tolerate.
Him getting "hurtled" on national TV was pretty hilarious: wonder if his people caught that act.

Looks into reasons the Bills passing game and Taylor could be significantly improved in 2017.
Talks a little about the changes in personnel, but the interesting stuff is when it dissects the passing concepts we're supposedly going to be executing this year: play-action passes, simple route concepts, the shallow cross, etc.
Closes with:
Well, honestly they can't really fall back much more than where they already were: Also IF Taylor were going to improve, we would LIKELY have seen it by now.
-
I was looking at the talent on the roster and was thinking about the following - if McDermott installs a simple 4-3 defense to allow our players to play (similar to that of Schwartz), we may have a defense as good if not better than 2014. The D-line is basically the same insert Lawson for Williams. Our secondary has been completely revamped and has the potential to be very solid. 2 of our 3 LBs have the potential to also be great. I see us having as many if not more sacks than 14 (especially with the Lorax). I all of a sudden have a glimmer of hope.
Has anybody seen or more importantly given a drug test to or WEIGHED Mr. Big Puff?
-
Ragland hasnt played a down in the NFL coming off an ACL injury. Lawson coming off an injury as well and when he played at the end lf the year looked slow. Sorry if I am not as optimistic but I am going to wait and see on these 2.
+ 1
Yes, let's see if he can make it through training camp and play a few downs first please.
-
Highly doubtful unless Tyrod gets injured.
Once the Bills are eliminated from playoff contention, I would absolutely expect them to put him in. Why wouldn't they?
Tyrod Tayor has no upside, he is what he is, and thy will want to find out what Peterman can do can do and take that information into the
2018 draft. They have positioned themselves well to potentially get a true QB.
He seems from the profile and analysis to be a lot of things Tyrod isn't.
http://www.billsdaily.com/draft/
5) QB Nathan Peterman, Pittsburgh 6-2 1/2, 226, 4.82 - Good enough size slightly weak arm strength which is a concern late in the season in Buffalo but has good deep ball accuracy. He's Smart and picks up systems quickly going through two the last two seasons at Pitt. Goes through progressions very quickly. Aggressive player who is a playmaker. He is pro ready and played in a pro-style offense. Throws with good timing and anticipation. Compact and quick delivery, needs more zip on his ball. Feels pressure well. Extends plays well with his feet and is a competent runner. He has been compared to Andy Dalton and Kirk Cousins by some scouts. Could be a long term backup QB option in the NFL.
-
So Watkins is still day-to-day?
He's got about 6 weeks until the start of training camp. When did he have his latest surgery/procedure?
-
you are happy for the young man. Get a grip. He is a ungrateful man. unable to face reality and has hurt this team dramatically. He used his mothers illness as an excuse his first year. Always another reason. He has abandoned his teammates. He has one interview and everyone is on his bandwagon. To me he has a lot more to prove than an interview staged by his manager. He has yet to even mention his lying to the fans and the Bills. He is making the rounds looking for good guy treatment for his next contract.
Dareus is one or two steps from being James Hardy.
He needs to shut up. Get in the gym. Get on the field for the next 2 or 3 seasons and prove he is a man and a teammate..
This to me is a smoke screen set up by his manager/agent.
I am also very skeptical of Dareus as we have heard this same rhetoric before, and he's had multiple suspensions now. Last
year when he did show up he wasn't able to get on the field and immediately became injured.
Let's see what he really does and how he appears in training camp: tired of his talk.
Also, he's due to make about $15 mil this year, if I am reading Spotrac correctly.

Buffalo can't get out of this contract for a while.

Sean McDermott says every quarterback on the roster will compete for the starting job -- it won't be handed to Tyrod Taylor. #Bills
When has a coach NOT said that? Really...
The Tyrod Taylor Question

Not...
Tyrod Taylor is is leading this Team nowhere but another season with no playoff hopes. Period.
He was projected to be drafted as a back or receiver, 6 or 7 years ago I think.
