I can just picture what these guys said when they got their playbooks.
Edwards: "Coach, this is a lot different."
Gailey: "How do you mean?"
Edwards: "Well, for one, I don't see any of the 3-yard pass plays we used to run. Everything in here seems to be gauged toward moving the ball down the field."
Gailey: "??"
Fitz: "What does this term mean? I think you say it, 'playaction.'"
Brohm: "And what are with the funny arrows pointing toward the middle of the field?"
Gailey: "Uh, that's where the receivers are supposed to run those routes."
(Group Laughter by QB's).
--beat--
Edwards: "The middle of the field. Seriously?"

Interesting that Freddy led all RB's with blown blocks, as well.

I'm not sure why Jim Kelly's opinion matters so much to people. The two people Tim Tebow needs to impress are Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey. Peter King already said Nix loves Tebow, and Gailey comes from a spread background, and had success with Thigpen in KC in 2008 in a spread, 1-read then run offense.
I think Tebow is probably higher on their list than a lot of us would like.
Well said. I like Tebow and hope he does really well in the NFL.
But if Nix loves him and takes him at 9, then it's his head on the block if he busts out.

For Mike in Syracuse, I get it. You're in CNY. (I am too, but still consider myself a lifelong Buffalonian). Maybe Byrd's da word is too, I don't know.
For the rest, what the hell difference does it make?? Go to a damn UB game. The only reason you care about Syracuse basketball from a distance is because they win consistently. Gotta be. Or you're an alum. Otherwise, there are four D-I teams in your backyard. Not "big-time" enough you say? Well, after Butler, the rest of the Horizon League looks alot like the MAC ... or the MAAC. A-10, St. Bonaventure's league, had a great year.
And all this "upstate new york will never win" crap ... it's just college basketball. Just because grannies and little kids everywhere fill out brackets doesn't increase its importance. Take last year's team: yes, Flynn was a transcendent star; Devendorf and Harris are pumping gas. Same with McNamara (wait, he's selling cars). No sniff of the NBA (the only basketball league that matters) for any of them.
Try caring about lacrosse if it means that damn much to you. (I've tried, but can't). They win all the time.
Having said all that, yes, Butler did win the game. They withstood the Orange's second-half run to take the lead and that little guard neutralized Rautins as best he could. Jackson was awful, but Orange looked out of whack from the start. It's unfortunate, but it's over. Only one team gets a shining moment.
I don't get this post. I grew up in Rochester; does that mean I can't cheer for the Bills? Or SU sports? WNY is not that provincial.

bottom line. this team played only 7. that's a lot of minutes for 7 guys to play, with a big east schedule and an rpi of 5. when ao got hurt, that increased the minutes of the other 6, and changed their roles (rautins was playing on the blocks in the zone), even though Riley gave them a decent 12 minutes. Even with ao they were beginning to wear down at seasons end. without him they were gassed and when a team like butler came out and attacked them defensively like they did, cuse was a step slower. 20+ turnovers says it all. they fought hard, but they just didn't have anything left.
Playing only 6 deep yesterday was probably why they lost. If AO was healthy, do you think Jackson would have even been in the building on a night like he had? Fact is, JB had to leave these guys in even when they were playing sloppy.
-
The game was lost when they had a 3 point lead with a little over 3 minutes remaining. Syracuse was inbounding underneath their own basket and they turned it over. Butler converted that turnover into a 3-point basket. Ensuing possession, Rautins turned the ball over on the baseline expecting a foul to be called. Butler scored another basket to take the lead and never looked back from there.
In my view, the no call on the Rautins turnover was the play of the game. You've got to call that.

Rick Jackson has played the worst half of basketball I've seen played all year. Really missing Onuaku right now.
Turnover machine.
This one reminded me of the Vermont loss. Played sloppy, let a far inferior team stick around, and blow it at the end.
Very frustrating loss. Oh, and didn't help that the officiating was horrid.

Excellent post.
BTW, why do the Bills and Cincinnati seem to vote against everything?
It's easier to say, "I told you so" later.
Frankly, RW is a traditionalist. He's one of the forefathers of the league; he probably doesn't like much change.

anyone watch the show? any feedback on my CEO? other than the obvious 'Danielle' feedback, I am curious to see what people got out of it and how it portrayed my company, GSI
Seems like an outstanding company, and your CEO was very impressive. The guy looked like he was only 30 years old too.
I thought this was one of the better episodes this year.
The Danielle thing was overblown--if she was really new on the job, then I think you have to cut her some slack or else blame those who trained her.
-
It's definitely not out of the realm of possibility. The line is single digits. Temple & Wisconsin are solid teams - to win both handily says something.
In fact, I think Boeheim said that Cornell was one of the best teams they had played this year.

I really don't have a favorite but I'd be interested to see who here hates Starbucks like I do. I can't stand their coffee.
I don't mind it, but I can understand the complaints-- it has a real "woody" flavor to it. I tend to go with an americano instead, since the espresso has a cleaner taste.

Actually it's Butler up next. Lay off the meds 'sphere (or maybe up the dosage). j/k.
On a serious note, I was at the Arena and cuse looked awesome. They will be a tough out if they play remotely close to that, and I am no Cuse fan. Good job by the fans too, it was a great atmosphere. This tournament rocks.
I was there too; just got back.
What an awesome offensive performance. Great to see Wes getting back to 100% and triche regaining his confidence.
I think we're still going to need AO in this tourney if we're going to win it all--but I guess if we shoot lights out like this every game, no one's going to beat us.

Never been there but Vicki took her husband Don there on an episode of Housewives of Orange County. Yeah, my wife makes me watch it with her.
Sadly, this would have been my exact same response too.

Dude looks like a safety; I can't believe he's 250 lbs.

Yup, every year. It's amazing what a backup QB who looks decent in some preseason/spot relief work will command on the open market. If the Bills had sat Edwards after his first few games as a starter they probably could've found a serious trading partner. Rob Johnson had one good game as a pro and the Bills dealt a first round pick for him. Kevin Kolb would command at least a 2nd. These guys have proven nothing, but young backup QBs who are considered up-and-coming are always overrated.
It's not like we didn't have the chance to do something like this. We had both Hamdan and Brohm to showcase last year, and instead, except for Brohm's one limited chance, we start a guy like Fitz.
I'm convinced that if Tom Brady were on our roster, he'd still be sitting on the bench.

Sports are like the moral equivalent of war.

NCAA Men's Basketball tourney, that is....
if you could play with one super team what 5 would you pick(based on points scored)?
I have gotten as far as Eric Wall, and Wes Johnson based on points they will score and the expected duration of both teams...who else is there? Perhaps the kid from BYU..would be hard to count rautins out
Evan Turner would be my star. I think he'll take OSU past G-Town and Kansas and right to the Final Four.
Monroe, Butler, and Reynolds are in the mix.

LOL. Nice. I think I'll bust that out here in VA when we have our next Pens playoff party. I like it. The most painful thing ever last year was watching the Pens play the Caps in round 2 as I had to watch Comcast Sportsnet Washington and their whiny announcers.
Even though Versus had the games, they only had exclusive rights in the conference finals and stanley cup finals. Since I live in the Caps home market, I had to watch all seven games (or maybe 5, NBC might have had two) on Washington's network.
IT ROYALLY SUCKED.
Feel bad for you. Not sure if you get any of the FSN-Pitt games on your current package, but the line-up of announcers is great, although big-time homers. Jay Caufield on the Pens post-game basically put the entire city at ease after the blow-out loss during the Red Wings final series last year. I think most people would have been jumping off bridges if it hadn't been for his calm demeanor.

Boudreau is a whiny piece of schitt.
My friends and I call Boudreau "Hitchcock," given his uncanny resemblance to the former film director. "Shut your face, Hitchcock..." is a common refrain.

I can't find any information online. If Syracuse beats Vermont, when would Syracuse play on Sunday?
My friend, who I'm going up to Buffalo with on Sunday, seemed to know what he was talking about, and told me that the game would either be 12ish, or 2ish slots.

I'm a Penguins fan, and Cooke's hit was ridiculous also. Cooke should be gone for a minimum of five games. Cooke is a fiesty player, and I've never really seen him play dirty to that kind of degree, but that hit to Savard was uncalled for. I wish Cooke would have gotten punishment. And yeah, I know rules state differently on what type of hit it was, but he should have been suspended. Common sense sees Cooke's elbow extended to the head for no reason.
That being said, I can't wait to see this game between the Pens and Boston this week. LOL. Penguin fans may see Eric Godard dressed for the first time in a long time.
I'm a pens fan too, and I think Cooke is a pretty dirty player at times. That play was a cheap shot, though I'm a little shocked it knocked Savard out (didn't seem like Cooke was skating too fast).
By the way, did you see Boudreau make some comment about Crosby? It was really incomprehensible, but I feel like he was trying to insult Crosby, by suggesting that AO wouldn't have been suspended if he were Crosby. Could be mistaken, but I didn't like it.

Thought this was worth posting.
Good for him getting his degree and having the foresight to know there's life after football. Most of these guys make tons of money but don't know how to handle it, spend it all during their career and wind up broke shortly after they retire.
He's doing it for himself and for his kids. I respect that a lot.
I think the sentiment is excellent, but it doesn't make much financial sense to me to walk away from $250K to take some college classes. Couldn't he just wait until he retired from pro football to finish his degree?

We're got a nasty defense down here. The 'noles are going to attempt to make it a 50-60 point battle. We've got very good size across the front so we can matchup with Syracuse's big guys. We've also got 3-4 players that are capable of going for 20 in any given night. The 'noles are maddeningly inconsistent, however. Kitchen, Singleton, and Alabi all can be scoring threats (althought Alabi's offensive play has fallen way off this year), but they have been streaky this year, and there's only been a handful of games where they both/all are on their game. We've been plagued by sub-par guard play as well. The biggest negative about the noles is the lack of a go-to guy in crunch time. We've got guys that can, and have hit the big shot, but the team tends to get down on themselves for stretches during games on the offensive side of the ball. We've got no leader that can carry the team during the cold stretches. FSU also tends to play up or down to their opponent, which
The bottom line is FSU will play tough D and score when they can. If they can hold 'cuse in the 50s or low 60s, the 'Noles would have a legit shot at winning and scoring the upset. If 'cuse pushes the score into the 70s, FSU wont be able to hang.
Thanks for the analysis. This team strikes me as similar to Pitt. And the fact that Onuaku is out for the weekend's games, probably won't bode well for Syracuse if FSU has the bigs that you mentioned.
I have no idea how good Gonzaga is this year--so I don't know how that game will shake out--but playing in the ACC, even in a down year, and having a great defense, is the recipe to winning some games in the tourney.

In like Flynn.
We Definitely Don't Want to Draft Colt McCoy

I'm no draftnik-- but every time I've seen him play, I'm always left to wonder how in the world could this guy be an NFL QB.
