Teams often have very similarly graded players available when it's their turn to pick.  What he's suggesting is that the Bills take one of the similarly graded WRs instead of Cook. I personally was hoping they'd have drafted a receiver earlier than they did. Who's to say they even had Cook rated as highly as he was picked?

To suggest it's ignoring the player evaluation would be incorrect .Ignoring player evaluation would be to draft solely based off of the grade you have and not how they can contribute to the team.

Would you draft a punter who you graded as a second round talent over a DT who's rated as an early third?  Unless there's truly an outlier sticking out on your board it's all subject to who's going to work best for your team.

First of all, you think Beane drafted someone in the second round when he had another player rated higher? Really?  I can see if that player was a DB, since he took Elam in the first round. But we see that doesn't even necessarily hold, by looking at last year's draft.

But I think we disagree on how the board is built to begin with. I believe it is built WITH team needs in mind. Putting aside this year, as it was a week QB class, do you think the Bills would have had ANY QBs on their board in the first few rounds?  Why would they when they KNOW they have no interest in drafting one?

When drafting don't you think they consider whether the players style, strengths and weaknesses, character, personality mesh with this team as currently constructed?   This isn't a rebuild where the GM is simply looking for talent, when they don't necessarily know if the head coach will even be with the team in a year or two.  This is an established team with a terrific roster (I think some don't take that into consideration) and a HC who isn't going anywhere.  They are looking for (and I believe grading) players who fit THIS team. Not some hypothetical team. A very highly regarded MLB thumper who might rank high on many teams boards, might be much much lower on the Bills' board. Understand where I'm coming from?

No, what I’m giving you is my opinion… because it’s a message board… and let’s not act like Beane has a keen eye for RBs… I mean the guy has already used three top draft picks at the position in three years…. I wish they’d put as much value on WRs as they have the RB position…. As @BADOLBILZhad pointed out, they’ve gotten away from valuing the WR position the last couple years.

As I’ve stated before, if Diggs/Davis get hurt or Davis doesn’t live up to expectations I expect the Bills will be in the market for a starting WR because their WR group will run into some issues.

Name a name, then. Who should they have picked and in what round?  Saying "they should have picked a WR" without a name and round is an opinion, I suppose. But it's an opinion with no teeth.  They DID pick a WR. They picked a WR they thought was among the best in the draft. Who cares what round they got him in, IF they are correct about him?

Not every team has journeyman scrub Jake Kumerow as it’s back up outside WR.😅

Except Kumerow isn't THE backup outside WR. He's A backup WR.  Most teams have at least one far worse than him.

I luckily have no problem totally separating the artist from their music. Had to do this with Roger years ago.

Agreed. There are plenty of artists I can enjoy who I think are totally crazy when it comes to their political view. And many who I tend to agree with politically, but whose music I can't stand. To thinking people they are two separate things and can be compartmentalized.

I would’ve preferred a WR in the first few rounds over RB and certainly LB.

So what you are saying (even if you didn't realize it) is you would have preferred Beane abandon the board and the teams' evaluations on prospects, and draft a player they didn't have highly enough ranked at that spot in the draft. As you know, Beane loves to trade too.  So even if they didn't like a WR at that draft position, had they been eyeing a WR they liked there they might have traded down---if the deal was right.

So what did you want the Bills to do. Ignore their player evaluation?  Good thing you will never be a GM.

What a perfect day.  (with acid)

Crosby actually seems WAY less douchey these days. I think he finally grew up and realized what an idiot he was. His recent music is pretty damn good, too. IMO of course.

Waters is still a douche, I believe.

To be clear, live in an apartment.  Small 100+ year old house converted into apartments. So they never challenged my ability to bypass the dish itself. I suppose I could have used almost any address.  Again I think that changed recently for regular DTV service. I just don't know if you can get the Ticket without getting the online DTV now.

I did some online research, Molson still shows Stock as an actively made brew.  However finding it at a 'Beer Store' or 'LCBO' outlet via their inventory checking software turns up no hits so far.  I think I will just drop into Fort Erie or Ridgeway's 'Beer Store', and ask directly.  If I am going to drink a Molson Coors product, it will be Stock.

Thanks.  I went through the ame procedure. This is the only place I could find that doesn't say "not available". Not sure it it's actually In Stock, as stated, though:

The 4th and 1 against Dallas, I think that’s when I knew we had “Neo” in football form… That whole game just gives me chills, put the world on notice and have delivered ever since.  Josh will get it done for the city of Buffalo, and that single solitary play illustrates why. While the dude has all the talent in the world (literally is likely the most gifted to ever play the position), you combine that with his “4th and 1 never quit, never say die” attitude, and it’s only a matter of time Bills fans before we know the true glory of celebrating a Super Bowl victory.

While I believe I knew before that, I'll admit that was when I shouted out loud "That's the QB we've been waiting for!"

So am I.  I grew up in Blasdell but not town of but mailing code in neighbor called Steelton off 20A west of South Park.

The beer of choice seemed to be Genesee with Miller liked by some.  There were enough parties I could try beer but never liked it except in cooking.

When I went to college in 1979 and after I turned 18 I was part of beer runs for which payment was free Chinese food.

I was always dependable so beer run lead once invited to party and he told me as part of entry fee beer was included but he would wave fee for me for upcoming party.  I said no thanks I do not like beer I tried it in high school; I mostly drank mixed drinks using leftover alcohol from bottles discarded as part of my work cleaning up (there was rule that bottles mostly empty were thrown out and I was thrower).  He said try the beer we bought in Canada.  He bought Molson and a few other Canadian beers.

I discovered I did like beer just not crappy ones.  Molson became my to drink beer until after I started working full time in Virginia  I discovered other good beers including even some local ones.

While I haven't had it in a long time, I actually thought Genesee 12 Horse Ale was fairly decent. Do they still make it?

I also liked Ballantine XXX Ale and Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale.

Old men beer, even when I was young.

@The Dean I just googled Labatts splits and the smallest bottles I found were 11oz. So while only slightly smaller than a usual bottle they are sold by the bucket at the Bills bar calling them splits.  I was duped by their marketing my apologies. The bucket specials sell out there. That place is a Bills bar gold mine they make a mint off of our fanbase.

Well there goes 2 hours of online research gone to hell!

The Dean brings up a very interesting point as how this idea is measured.

The top ten countries in population have the following breakdown.

    5 claim soccer

    3 claim cricket

    1 claims American football

and China claims basketball as their most popular sport.

As far as TV viewership goes, soccer has to dominate as all the interest in the World Cup

    and the UEFA telecasts.

Also consider the participation aspect.  Bowling used to be a tremendously popular sport---if you count participating in it to be a sport.  Ping Pong, especially in China, from what I hear.  Darts?  Just considering the possibilities and why I rarely get satisfaction from claims of #1 or Most popular, unless the criteria and methodology is all spelled out.. The raw data is pretty nice to have, too.  But that's asking for a bit much, I know.

  16. 1 hour ago, muppy said:

Since this thread has turned to canadian beer and not so much the crossing aspect I can share that the san diego billsbackers club offers ice bucket special price for Labatts Blue splits and they are very popular

the OV splits beer mentions brought me back to when my sister was in college at Buff State and lived in allentown. We would walk just out the door of her apartment to Mulligans Brick bar where we used to drink those like water lol

    Say what?  Labatts Blue splits?

I've never seen one, or even knew they existed.  I doubt they're distributed around St Augustine.  But I'm going to search now.

I tend to like any beer better in a split. So I'm always on the lookout. About the only ones I can find down here are Corona and maybe Bud/Bud Light. No interest in any of those.  I'll do Rolling Rock ponies, though since they left Latrobe it doesn't seem the same. Still I can't find those either.   I used to be able to find Heineken. But I haven't seen that anywhere in a couple years.

I may have had a split for every person in China, but I’m honestly not sure if I ever had a full size OV, or even knew they existed!

For a really bad experience, try a 16oz can of OV.  They used to be very inexpensive---and they were barely worth the price, IMO.  Then again, like I said, I just like small beers better.  For one, they stay cold for the entire time.

  17. Research guy question here.

What's the criteria for calling something "the most popular" or  "#1" sport?

The number of people who participate in it?  Overall revenue? Live attendance? TV ratings? Surveys of people's preferences? Etc.

If it has anything to do with the sheer number of people who participate/watch/say it's their favorite sport, then the discussion must focus on China and India.

He is A backup, not THE backup. He's far down the depth chart. Hermes explained it in his post above. If anyone believes that the Bills' contingency plan for Diggs or Davis going down is to simply give Kumerow their snap share, they're deluding themselves.

I agree with that. Right now, I think it will be filled by more than one WR given the current state of the roster.  But he is a WR backup.

The Bills "official" depth chart isn't available yet.  But this one from ESPN does a terrible job of guessing the WR rotation, IMO:

    What?

He is a primarily a ST player. He is not a starting WR. But he is a backup WR, and probably not playing much in the slot. So yes, he is a backup to Diggs and Davis---and anyone else they might play at WR before relying in his contribution there. But how is he NOT a backup to Diggs and Davis?

OV splits for the win. They were drinkable even at room temperature. My brother took me to Watkins Glen for the race in the early 80s, and he and his buddies piled 22 cases of splits into the RV. We had to sleep in a tent because the bunks were taken up by beer. It was a rainy, cold October weekend, but we got through all 22!

As much as I loved OV Splits, regular sized bottles of OV do very little for me
