I have heard of this... don't see Buffalo listed in the CBS local channels section. I forget which network carries the Bills games back home so maybe it doesn't matter anyways.

It works like this. Excluding TNF, SNF and MNF, the network carrying the game is decided by the VISITING team's conference. So if the Bills play at home against an NFC team, Fox stations will most likely carry the game. If the Bills are the visiting team, CBS stations  most likely get it. I say "most likely " becaue,  as of a couple/few years ago that isn't guaranteed.  There's a bit of network swapping on location.

What surprises me is not that Jones is a great gunner and therefore kept on the roster, but that year after year, they can't find a guy who they can coach up to be a really good gunner who is also a viable backup at a position of need.  So many good athletes pass through that don't make it.  Couldn't a backup CB, S, LB or (viable) RB be molded into a gunner over the course of a training camp or a season on the Practice Squad?  Or is it just that specialized a skill and Jones just that much better at it?  Given that I trust our coaching staff and front office, I'd have to say yes.

I'm thinking being a gunner is as much mindset as talent---much like a WR/TE being a good blocker. The technique can be taught, but not the mentality.

Plus you need a guy you KNOW (not hope) will be there game after game doing a great job.  Most RBs (just for example) are concentrating on breaking into the starting lineup as a RB. It's good to have a guy who knows his role and puts all of his effort into his ST position.

I've said it before and say it again. Too many posters have a disrespect of special teams. They would rather have a slightly better RB sitting on the very edge of the bench, rarely if ever getting into a game at that position, than have a stud ST player. Completely absurd, IMO.  If the RBs get injured, it's pretty damn easy to pick one up during the week.

Why do you think it is coaching that keeps people from excelling at ST.

Across the league - there are a ton of special team only guys that really have no position on the field.

Much like other players they spend a ton of time practicing their role and watching film to prepare for the opponent.

Guys can be found and molded to become gunners, but then they will not have the time to devote to being a full time player at another position and basically you replace a special teams player with different ST only player.

Guys like Taiwan, Tyler, even Kumerow spend time preparing for their special teams role and then making sure that other players are versed in what needs to be done because they have not had the time to study the film and know the full gameplan.

We saw it back in the day with Tasker and Mark Pike - neither played more than a handful of snaps at their “positions” because they worked to hone the craft of special teams.  Late in his career they talked about using Tasker more as a WR, but he said that really interfered with his special teams play.  It hurt his coverage ability and his preparation time.

Well said. Some here will never understand that, I think.

A puzzle for sure, based on last year. There's been talk about how much better he looked this year. Hope those rumors are true.  But to be honest, I don't think Beane is done, yet.

Well, daylight savings DOESN'T start tomorrow. So are you saying Stevenson isn't going to IR?

No, NFL+ does not carry out of market/region games.  Not live, anyway. That's what the Sunday Ticket is for.

  6. The only change this year (I think) is Amazon Prime is carrying (streaming) many Thursday Night games. For Sunday Afternoon games, DTV Sunday Ticket is the only legal way to watch out of market games. DTV will also carry the distribution of Amazon's Thursday Night games to bars and restaurants.

To just go to the Falls the American side is just fine, but one thing I noticed when we last went there is that I got warnings on my phone about extra data usage/fee's as maybe it was just close enough to Canada, idk. Either side, it is an amazing experience for sure. Plus the hassle of going over the border... not worth the bs if you just want to see and feel it.

It sounds like they aren't going to Canada, unless I missed something.

But the phone thing is (or at least was) real. Would happen to me all the time. Other times I could use my US only plan for miles into Canada, before the US tower dropped it. I'd hope this has been improved over the years. But it reminds me, I'll be in Canada soon, I better check my cell plan.

We will not add a punter till Wednesday and may sign 1-2 to the PS and use a call up instead of an active roster spot until they settle everything.

No need to rush to sign a punter.

Exactly. If there's a punter out there they really want, they can work the deal now and sign the papers later.

Didn't Dorsey say exactly the opposite? That he is just FB in his offense? I might have misread something.

That's all good Yolo. If he sucks I am fine with keeping better players. I just think this is a huge huge miss on Beane's part. $3M dead cap is a lot for a player without a snap for the Bills. I know nobody sees the future and I will keep assessing Beane based on his overall work but this one hurts. More than any of his moves in recent memory.

I am as disappointed as you. I liked the Howard pick up as a low risk, high reward offensive piece and I am really disappointed it has failed. In terms of passing targets for Josh it is really Sanders and Beasley out, Crowder (low ceiling vet), Shakir (5th round rookie) and Cook (2nd round rookie receiving back) in. Have they done enough? Only time will tell but it is a legit question to ask.

I'm with Gunner on this. While disappointed Howard didn't work out as planned, I thought the pick up was an excellent. Sometimes you need to take a swing, but of course all swings don't result in hits. If Beane stops taking calculated shots like this, I'll be far more concerned. I don't like the lost $$$, but in today's game that isn't a huge hit--it is very manageable.

Keeping Howard on the roster, after he didn't earn the spot, would have been a HUGE mistake, IMO.

Swing and a miss?  Yes indeed. Major mistake? Hardly, IMO.

According to Rappaport, Garoppolo doesn't want to go there - perhaps due to leftover loyalty to the 49ers. Not like he has got many other options though; presume he'll (and the 49ers) will wait until a QB goes down.

IMO the best thing Jimmy G can do (if ge gets cut) is work with a good QB coach/mentor until starting QBs start getting injured. Then pick a team where he thinks he can be somewhat successful

Chloe has been spotted in our back yard! My wife and stepson went out to see if they could get her, but so did our dog and he took off after her, and Chloe ran under the back fence into the neighbors yard. The neighbor has been very kind to let us set a trap in his backyard. There is also a dead mouse near where Chloe was seen so that tells us she's hungry and hunting. Very soon our baby will be back in the house!!!

WooHoo! Very glad to hear the encouraging news. Looking forward to when she's back safe and sound.

It's on the Sunday Ticket app. If you have that on your TV, then you can watch it on your TV.  I don't know if it is on the normal DTV channels. This was an app test.

BTW, I had to update my app as soon as I signed in.

Sad if they let it go. Last time I had it was catering for a funeral maybe 5-6 years ago. I’ll check Michael’s out next time I’m in town.

Looks like it was taken off the market and is still open:  https://www.wgrz.com/article/money/business/como-restaurant-in-niagara-falls-no-longer-up-for-auction-antonacci-and-colucci-families/71-764b02b8-00ce-48d9-99f3-6243f7948cec

It's very odd. A family owned restaurant with a built-in Italian deli takeout shop connected. Yet, during the pandemic lockdown I was told they close everything. Then (again, this is hearsay) they took the Gov't money, but let all the employees go and shut down. A real bad look, IMO.  Especially when they were completely setup to do takeout. On an unrelated note, Fortuna's (with no special takeout facility) managed to stay open for takeout and thrived during that period. Just seems odd to me.

It was starting to look like the family didn't have it in them to continue running the place. Running a restaurant is WORK, and requires a lot of commitment. Many children of successful restaurant families don't seem to have what it takes to continue to do what is necessary to have a good, successful establishment.

I'm very happy to hear it is still open (but only 4 days a week and no longer for lunch). The last thing Niagara Falls needs is more businesses closing.

Violas subs are amazing, como  for some Italian food on pine. If you want to walk around go down to Lewiston.

Como still open?  I had heard it was closing.  I had my first bartending job there as soon as I turned 18.

IMO while a decent overall restaurant (and a better than OK catering restaurant) their Italian-American basics are very substandard. Their basic sauce is horrible and they may make the worst lasagna I've ever tasted. But they do make some good stuff too.  Again IMO, Fortuna's is far superior to the Como.   Keep in mind, I haven't eaten at the Como in a few years.

Another popular local Italian Restaurant is Michael's (right next door to La Hacienda) on Pine Ave.  Again, not one I love, but very popular. My mother, father and sister all loved it.

I agree, IF you aren't the real touristy type.  If you are that type, then NF Ontario is far better.

Since I grew up in NF (and was a tour guide) lived in Boston, SF, LA, NYC and now St Augustine, I've almost always lived in touristy spots. But when I travel, I'm the anti-tourist, for the most part.  I look for places the locals go. I like to get a feel for what it's like to live in an area.

Minor point of clarification.  The Maid of the Mist used to run from both the US and Canada by the same company. But now the boat ride in Canada is called Hornblower and run by that company. They changed their boats first, to a more modern and larger design.

Starting last year (or the year before) The Maid of the Mist switched to all electric, and very large, boats.  I have yet to be on one of the newer vehicles. I hear good things. But I always thought the rather rickety nature of the older boats made the ride a lot more interesting. Maybe I'll have a chance to take a ride on the new ones in a couple weeks when I go back to WNY.

Correction to my correction. The Canadian boat is called Niagara City Cruises.  It is run by Hornblower:

BEST ATTRACTION IN WNY (Bills games excluded)  ... and you can get the ride from both sides of the border.   In the distant pass when I was a teacher, I thought that being a Maid of the Mist captain (pilot?) would be the ideal summer gig!

I'd recommend either Lewiston or Niagara-on-the-Lake, depending upon which side of the border you're on.  If you like typical touristy things, that's Canada.  If you are more interested in getting closer to the water, then the American side might be your pick. The Cave of the Winds is awesome.  You can walk on the catwalks at the brink of the American Falls there.   You can take the steps down into the Devil's Hole downstream from the Falls and hike the Niagara Gorge.  Somebody already measured the Power Authority.  There's also Artpark in the Lewiston -- and some nice dining choices in the village.  Finally, there's Ft Niagara in Youngstown.
