Although nationally televised on CBS, there are two other 4:00 games on Fox (Panthers/Rams and Cardinals/Seahawks). Would be interesting to see the ratings and viewership numbers on the other two compared to us.

One would think the NFL would want this to be a true prime time game to at least get someone to tune into those other two games.

The two Fox 4pm games have VERY limited national distribution. The national ratings will be dwarfed by the CBS game, if for no other reason.

It might be interesting to compare the local ratings in the few "neutral" markets where Fox is showing a late game. For example,  Boston and New Orleans have the Rams game against the Bills game.

I'm cringing so hard right now

and yes, i remember seeing this on channel 29 while watching star trek reruns

that and the FIGMOS commercial.  I didnt imagine that, did I?  My sister remembers it too but have never found it online

I don't recall FIGMOS, but you are not imaging it.

Now I can't get this song out of my head:

We don’t know exactly what happened, but it makes me think of a sign you see where my mom is in a skilled nursing facility. The sign says something like “be sure to make eye contact and speak to patients before touching them”.

The football version is “don’t walk into a wild scrum and touch someone from behind unless you want trouble”. That goes for refs too. I don’t know if AJ knew who it was, or what he said, but if this guy DQ’ed a player in consecutive weeks, maybe he needs to look in the mirror. How many refs managed not to eject somebody over the last couple weeks? Yeah, pretty much all of them.

    Excellent point.

When my mother was in assisted living/memory care I never saw those signs posted. But they sound like a good ideal. I once saw something on my mother's face and moved my hand toward her face to remove it. She reacted as though she was afraid I was going to hit her. I was a bit shocked, and dismayed. Was someone there hitting my mother??? I realized later it was probably just her being confused and not ready to be touched at that time. I sure hope that was it.

I’ve been waiting for a player to make that chicken lady walk into a touchdown celebration since 1980.

    Someone’s gotta do it once.

They score a TD, Talkin' Proud blared out the P/A, Josh playing the role of chicken lady, other 10 members of the offense, marching behind him.

As much as I hate to admit it,  that's an awesome idea.

It was a sincere question.   He made contact with an official, probably thought it was a Steelers player but he go booted and from as far as I can tell it had no affect on the game nor will it affect future games.   Was the official wrong?

100% wrong,  IF he was tossed for the slight contact.

My information-free WAG is this. AJ spun around and said something like "Get your fuc#ing hands off me". Perhaps he wasn't contrite enough/quickly once he saw it was the ref

  6. I'm still wondering what rules were broken here. Picket dod NOT fake a slide. That he did it once in college should be completely irrelevant to the application of the rule in the NFL and the play yesterday.

It seems very apparent Picketts began his slide at the same time Hamlin begins to go for the tackle, so no issue there.

Hamlin does NOT hit Pickett in the head area.  No penalty for that.

It was a HARD LEGAL HIT.

Would I have been surprised to see a penalty here? No, given some of the calls we saw yesterday there's a distinct possibility a hit like this gets called. But it would have been an incorrect application of the rules, IMO.

Nice little piece about Beane coming in and handling the tough task of getting rid of Dareus, Watkins, Ragland then packaging Cordy Glenn and picks to get Josh Allen

Thanks I completely missed the Ragland reference in real time. But that makes it even more impressive to me.  Isn't that part of his job?

Talking Proud was also what was played after scores at the stadium  before they came up with the Shout! song. And I remember Barry Lillis (before he dried out and became a minister) sticking wet paper towels on the map over the south towns saying that there was going to be a soaking rain there.

Who can forget the chicken lady?

    No kidding?

    That's....well.....that's something.

I think you can get in trouble for that these days!

I'd advise anyone thinking of trying it to be sure they are far away from a school.

You'd think that Jr High had never seen a man in a trenchcoat.

I like to call it SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. It was a horrible decision.

I'm not going to defend or criticize that decision. If it works, it may act as the spark to turn the entire season around. If he kicks and it ends in a tie, or loss, he could lose the team forever.

You have to evaluate your team in the moment. It's a tough call IMO

I personally think Gilmore could have been flagged for DH or DPI but, Wilson deserved to lose

And Sherman is right - all the Broncos had to do at the end of regulation and in OT was RUN IT

Yes, certainly some sort of illegal contact penalty. I think the officials were as ready for this game to end as anyone.

I don’t want him gambling for picks. I want him doing his job, and take them where they come. Don’t give up a big play going for a big play. That’s not how we work. First be smart and safe, then make the big splash.

I trust him to be a pro, and I hope he raises that money!

    My immediate thoughts,  exactly.

And like you,  I trust Poyer to stay professional and make the plays in front of him.

  13. What really bugs me about some grilled cheese sandwiches I've had lately is, they aren't pressed...or are barely pressed.  I've been to a couple "grilled cheese specialty' restaurants, and the sandwich was served on Texas Toast (which is a terrible choice for grilled cheese, IMO) and was grilled, but not pressed. That completely undermines the appeal of the grilled cheese sandwich, IMO.
