Honestly, I haven't heard many stories about "untrained" civilians accidentally wounding or killing other civilians. You'd think with the media these days, stories like that would get a lot of play. Instead, the stories we don't hear about are ones like this: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-uber-driver-shoots-gunman-met-0420-20150419-story.html You say some of the laws are lax, and I can appreciate that point. However, with the status of illegal firearms in this country, it doesn't much matter. Lax, nonexistent, or completely banned, guns are going to be acquired by people who want them. People who can't acquire guns (which would be a very small number) will kill folks with homemade pipebombs, or their cars, or anything else that is just as deadly. I'd take my chances that law-abiding citizens with some firearms will do more good than harm in the long run. Having a "conversation" doesn't work, and wishing for peace doesn't either. It's a problem with no real solution. All you can do is hope that these acts are stopped in their tracks by law enforcement or citizens just as they start. Like many others have iterated, guns aren't the root cause, people are.

When should a offense be changed? Before it doesn't work or after? What nonsense. -

I expect 0 NFL QB's would read an open WR 20 yards downfield, look away, and check down. -
Concealed carry states are hardly Afghanistan. It's not black and white at all. Bans have worked so well for drugs, and alcohol.

Your assertion that we wouldn't need police anymore implies that police can do everything. But, like this shooting and a hefty amount of violent acts, the police don't get there in time to save everybody. A police state? No, but I don't mind a few citizens having a gun. If some guy goes to shoot up the grocery store that I'm in, the cops likely will not be there in time to save me, only count the victims. Good things those cops down in Charleston were trained for a stressful situation that they missed. But they were there for the aftermath. Did you know that you have to express competency with your firearm to get a concealed carry permit? It wouldn't be some 14 year old kid holding a weapon for the first time, trying to be a "hero." Again with your absurd assertion that I want a self-governing state. At least pretend to make honest points.

Not every cop who carries a gun is an expert shot either. And pot shots? Really? When it's a singular psychopath, it's not like there's gonna be a shootout for 5 minutes. All it takes is one or two shots to incapacitate, and half of the room could be saved. You're telling me police forces aren't reactionary? Why didn't the police stop this violence? Your loaded language needs to be noted, as well.

It is in extremely poor taste to make these comments. It is also ridiculous to blame the Pastor. However, it is not untrue that a member of the congregation with a gun may have saved some lives.

Metz, please don't reference them as EJ dreamers. It's just not worth diving into the childish muck. That game is referenced so much because it was EJ's last game, and his worst game. It also demonstrated some very bad issues. If EJ flames out, that Houston game will be pointed at as the beginning of the end, similar to Trent's Arizona game, and Fitz vs. Tennessee. -

Did you just reference a math error as the "truth?" And you're correct that if you change the outcome of the games, Orton and EJ have the same record. But why stop there? Why not just double EJ's TD total to prove he's better? -
Seems crazy to me that a guy who thinks the death penalty isn't a deterrent, wants to make guns more illegal, as a deterrent. Because we all know, that extra 10 years for an illegal firearm with make you stop and think when multiple life sentences or lethal injection won't.

I know. You counted it twice. Orton would have been 5-7 if the pat's weren't in the playoffs already. No. He'd be 6-6, but he wasn't and you don't know that he would've lost. Again, I agree with benching EJ when it was done. His receivers may have lost their confidence in EJ but how much confidence can a person have in themselves if the person who is your boss has none in you? EJ was fighting to win a job that was already his with Tuel and Lewis on the roster and then Orton was signed because Marrone threw a **** fit at TC (I'm just guessing that's what the "fire me if you want" was about). If you agreed with the benching, then why are you debating if we were better off with EJ playing? Are you just advocating for a side you don't even believe? -

The Pats game counted for 2 games? They "both" did not go .500. Show me your crystal ball that says we lose the Pats game, when we were demolishing their starters by halftime. Orton was an upgrade to EJ for the entire year. Maybe not a massive upgrade, but he was better. Did Orton have garbage games? Absolutely. Did he benefit from our great defense? Absolutely. But he was better. I actually don't know anyone with the ability to watch All-22 who disputes this. No, I play Karlos to see if he can be the RB of the future. Not hand him the ball 20 times in one season and then determine that he is/isn't the future RB. Do you play him over Fred, even if Fred is the better RB this season? Meanwhile, the rest of the team and fans, are tired of having a new QB every 8ish games for the past decade. Continuity will help both the QB, offensive line, coaching staff and team (although the coaching has been most of the problem over the past decade). And there's the assumption that playing EJ Manuel leads to continuity. Which, as you said earlier, is no guarantee, or even likely. Let me get to the most relevant point. Forget the QB comparisons, Orton vs. EJ, 14 starts, win now vs. developing, Marrone sucked arguments. I believe that EJ needed to be benched. He had really lost his confidence. It was aparent in that HOU game. He was reading open recievers and refusing to throw to them. Confidence is crucial to QB's, as you are quite aware. His recievers were all but telling him he sucks, he was getting pummeled, and he was scared. It was the right move to bench him, both to win games that season, as well as to keep him as intact as possible to try to delevop him long term. EJ was in trouble post-Houston and the benching may have prolonged/saved his career. -

You had the bolded worded very strangely in the previous post, I was confused. EJ on the bench with the winning season. Why would you not play the guy who can and will throw more TD's than another guy? Will we play Karlos Williams over Freddy this year, because Karlos may be our RB of the future in 4 years? Even if Karlos is worse? I concede that teams can fluctuate. I still think that morale is important. I still think that Kye Williams having his first winning season in his career means something. And I thought Orton played 14. I got them mixed up. He still produced more, and I want the player who can produce the most today as our starter today. I will worry about "finding out what we got" when the young QB competes and wins the job. I didn't wanna have to pull them up. I swear, I need to bookmark EJ's ESPN page. Tannehill showed more promise because he stayed healthy, and had a trendline of improvement in his second season Equating Maybin to Orton is laughable. Orton had a 10 year career in the NFL. Everytime you decide to deride somebody, just remember Maybin. . Also threw. Also, why are you ignoring EJ's QBR as a second year player? Did he not play the second year? Does he only have rookie stats? -

Kyle Orton threw more TD's in 14 games than EJ has in his whole career. And Orton stunk. 9-7. Speaking of jokes, where's Maybin and Jauron at? Show me them. Is your second question asking me if I preferred EJ Manuel playing well and winning games over him sucking and losing games? -

That's not what would have happened. Short of a Blaine Gabbert-esque season, we still wouldn't "know for a fact" anything. We'd just think he kinda sucked, and we'd go into year 3 with a full competition (sound familiar)? And I think many fans discount the morale boost of a winning season. 4-12 teams don't turn into 11-5 teams over night, short of finding a QB playing at a franchise level. I believe we have a better chance of making the playoffs this year because we went 9-7 last year. -
