  1. Who made the decision to let him play with a busted wrist? This team is usually pretty conservative with injuries, that decision could have cost us a game.

Knox is a solid TE who’s over paid for his production, especially this year. I couldn’t care less about his salary as I’m not paying it and neither are you.  Part of his lack of production is on Ken Shotgun Dorsey and his Magic 8 Ball play calling

If they want to run 12p they can slot Edwards in which they’ve been doing all season. He will be WIDE OPEN for a TD pass in the RZ.

  2. I don’t think Dorsey schemes the offense to take advantage of the opposing defense’s weaknesses.

He may scheme against expected defensive looks, but it doesn’t seem like he looks at the opposing players and says “This guy sucks, and this unit blows, so we are going to design our game plan to exploit that” unless it’s a crappy corner one on one with Diggs and then any of us All Pro OC’s as Josh would say could call the same game.

Also, there doesn’t seem to be any set up of plays. It’s the friggin Magic 8 Ball offense where you shake up the plays and just run whatever pops up.

Good offensive coordinators know how teams are going to attack us, plan how to exploit that, then also plan for the expected defensive adjustments to that exploitation in advance.

  3. I don’t think you can just flick a switch and Allen will be the gunslinger of old. They’ve neutered him. This could be a career defining year for him. He looks disinterested. He’s getting snippy with the media where he was always Joe Cool. I’m seeing that deer in the headlights look too much. Josh isn’t in the top 5 of Bills problems but because this team is so reliant on him, it really has an effect on the entire team. Dorsey should be fired for this development alone.

  4. Lost

That’s what this team is. Completely lost

It’s going to go 1 of 2 ways. 1 - The wheels blow off, we miss the playoffs and we blow it up and start again

2 - We get a Tampa moment, things click and the offense becomes a jaggernaut in the second half of the season into the playoffs

2 more points - Josh is not seeing the field well. IDK why, maybe it’s the 50% pressure rate but he’s regressed in his field perception. His A/C joint obviously affected his accuracy today but that’s not an excuse and I think he’ll work through it.

That flag that was picked up on the screen was the correct call. The pass was behind the line of scrimmage which negates the illegal man down field.

Of course, fire Dorsey into the sun and how do we allow McCorkle to march down the field in under 2 minutes. This game is the first time I’ve started to question whether McD is the right guy and I LOVE what he’s done for this team and city.

From the detail you provide it sounds like you are a defensive coordinator at the college level that does this for a living.

Anyway, my biggest sticking point with Cover 1 is everything is shaded through Bills colored lenses.

That and they are all WAY over sensitive to criticism. I enjoy Cover 1 content and for the casual fan I think it adds a little something.

Since they exist on twitter they get the majority of their feedback from the loud mouths of the fan base and then generalize those opinions to all Bills fans. I tend to think the majority of Bills fans who really follow the game are more intelligent than twitter douche’s and have more nuanced opinions.

Just because Filthy Beast is out there calling for McD’s head and rooting for the Fish doesn’t mean the majority of Bills fans are

  6. If ever there was such a thing as a “get right” game this one SHOULD be it. How far we’ve come that NE is now that beat down team. LOVE IT. Cheating f

Yeah I know its a division game and the Hoodie and we haven’t looked good in 2 weeks.

NE is decimated on defense. No Judon, no Uche, no Gonzales (rookie but whatever).

If Dorsey/Josh can’t get this offense on track vs this dumpster fire then we are in trouble.

Mac Jones is GARBAGE. I hope they keep him for a decade. Just play 2 high zone and rush the passer. He’s so scared of his lack of O-line protection that he’s throwing quick not past 10 yards.

That being said, Bills by a FG because we are BILLSY

  7. Josh is the best QB we will likely ever see on the Bills in our lifetime. As a HUGE Jim Kelly fan, it’s pretty clear Josh is better in almost every aspect except leading his team to Super Bowls (so far).

Josh isn’t perfect, no QB is, and some of the offensive woes (like the Jets game) fall squarely on his shoulders.

BUT, that’s why you want to have a balanced team so Josh doesn’t have to be perfect all the time. We’ve got a running game now. I’d like to see Dorsey step up and scheme Josh easier throws when he’s not playing his best.

I’d also like to see someone besides Diggs step up to be that safety blanket that Beasley was. Knox hasn’t done it, Davis hasn’t done it, so maybe Kincaid or Shakir can develop into that guy.

  8. So not having Ed on the field is never a good thing, but I’m not as concerned against NE as Ed is more of a penetrating DT and the NYG took advantage of him in their run game.

I, and everyone I’d guess, expect NE to try and run the ball and control some clock since Mac SUCKS and the NE passing game is the worst in the league right now.

They are running much more power/wham/trap than the zone scheme they’ve tried in the past (kinda like us) and Stevenson/Elliot are powerful between the tackles runners.

IDK if it hurts us that much to have a couple fat bodies who maybe don’t penetrate as much but can tie up O-lineman to keep our LBs free to shoot gaps.

Time for our other DT’s to make a little noise with their opportunity.

  9. I expected Dorsey/Josh to dink and dunk more and run better just as an expansion of our offense and to get teams out of that 2 high shell which limits deep/intermediate passing.

I figured when teams did that, we'd go back to our bread and butter with the deep crosses and overs plus seam shots to Kincaid

Boy was I wrong. We don't have the consistent playmakers for a precision offense to be successful for 60 minutes.

    My solution:

Easy throws to several players early to get everyone in the game

Test out run game under center early

    More pre snap motion

    A commitment to play action

More Josh runs or the green light to scramble when it's there

Force teams out of that 2 high then hit them intermediate/deep as soon as they do. Get the big plays back in this offense.

Starts with letting Josh run more (not get hit more). It can done Mahomes does it to near perfection. Uses his legs when he needs to and at key moments.

  10. What is our identity as an offense?

Until we can definitively answer that, then Dorsey isn’t doing his job.

Right now it looks the same as last year. Ken puts about 15 random plays in a hat and shakes them up. 10 say you have 1 read and his name is Diggs. 1 play action shot to Davis. 1 shotgun draw. 1 dealers choice (that’s where anyone not named Diggs or Davis gets their total targets). The last 2 say “Josh figure it out after you hike the ball”. He just shakes up the hat and pulls out a play and that’s our rhythm. Notice there are no Josh Run plays even on a scramble and that’s a big problem. They’ve neutered Josh and it’s having a big effect on the offense. His legs must get more involved.

That’s what our offense has looked like since halfway through last season.

Josh is also a problem because he’s not even looking at anyone but Diggs even when they are open. Dorsey needs to change the reads and get more people involved earlier. For every 2 Diggs, make someone else the first read and Diggs #2.

I disagree with some here.  Our QB has a shoulder injury. An AC joint sprain (severity unknown).  Anthony Richardson is in a sling and may have shoulder surgery due to a grade 3 AC joint sprain in right shoulder.  This is not the game I want Allen running up the middle and absorbing contact.  This is a game i'd try to dominate the tranches and run more.  Have him under center, some quick short passes and play action.  Yes, running more might mean the game stays close longer, but Josh needs an easy week on the shoulder.  I have faith the D will force a takeway or two.  They didn't last game and will be due.

He hurt his shoulder in the pocket then launched into a LB with it during the scrum. I think he's going to be ok.

Again, Josh running is an integral part of who he is and a huge threat DCs need to account for. He can scrambke when there is the opportunity and not get touched. He can run the power sweep and have minimal contact with all the fat boys in front.

  12. Ha!

Love McD. Isn't going to pretend he likes a guy if he doesn't.

There were more fire Daboll threads than there are fire Dorsey threads at this time and some are acting like we lost Vince Lombardi to the G-men. Let's see how his team responds to being a doormat before we lament the fact that we kept the winningest coach in franchise history over the angry fat guy. And I liked Daboll glad he landed a HC gig.

  13. Dorsey needs to unleash Josh. We need a couple designed runs especially in the red zone. He's always better after a good run. Don't give me the "he's gonna get hurt" crap that's BS - he's getting hurt in the pocket. It's year friggin 6, the guy can slide or get OOB. Give him the encouragement to take off when there's green in front of him. I firmly believe a big part of our offensive problems is teams aren't worried about him running anymore. If we can see the hesitation then D coordinators absolutely do.

I agree with most of your post especially the Allen running part, but I heavily disagree with the first bolded and am confused about the second one.

Nobody in the league blows out opponents more often and more than the Bills. Last 3 years we have like +600 point differential and 2nd best Chiefs are at +400 or so. How can you say that we never blow out competition?

To the second bolded, did you confuse some games or are you really saying that Dorsey "absolutely sucked" in Dolphins game?

    Good points.

To the first, it was my own BBFS that got the best of me. In the pre-game thread, I mentioned this is exactly the type of Billsy game we tend to sht the bed with, and it almost happened. The key word being almost - in the past Bills lose this game 8/10 times. Maybe pulling this one off will give them some confidence in close games. In my over 40 years of fandom, Buffalo tends to play down to its competition more often than not. We also play up to the competition though, so there is that.

To the second, you are right Dorsey had a good game against the Dolphins. In fact his first 3 games were solidly called. My concern is same as last year. As soon as teams get a little tape on him and make adjustments, he takes way too long to make any of his own.  I’m also very concerned they over-coached Josh about his running. Yes, we all want him to take fewer hits but he can take the yards that are there, or use his legs in a “break glass in case of emergency” sense, and he’s not doing that. A huge part of Josh’s game is his ability to run. If you take that away and other teams stop worrying or gameplanning against it, he will be less effective.

  15. Eh I’ll take an ugly W over a pretty L any Sunday

It’s only game 6. I’d rather they start to get it together mid season and peak towards the end of the season/playoffs.

I’m just not confident Dorsey is the guy to do it but we are stuck with him. I don’t care what the stats say. We can all use our eyes and see that there is no identity or flow to this offense. It’s back to Allen/Diggs and they’ve cut Josh’s legs off of him.

I’m all for Allen taking less hits and sliding/get out of bounds BUT you can see he’s over thinking it. When he’s rolling and there’s green in front of him he needs to just take off and get the easy yards. There have been way too many first downs left on the field because he hesitates and then throws incomplete or short.

    Gotta let the horse run.

  16. Eh I’ve seen enough of Gabe. Get what we can out of him this year then let him walk.

If Dorsey would get his head out of his ass and actually use the middle of the field with Kincaid/Cook/Knox, Gabe would have even better numbers. I don’t really care about his overall stats, I care that he consistently has drive killing drops and the one time he made a guy miss and got some YAC he fumbled yesterday.

You won because Tyrol Taylor totally messed up to end the 1st half and didn’t even get 3 points because he ran the ball with no time out left. Then the refs totally miss an obvious PI in the end zone as well against the Bills. The Bills are lucky not to be in 3rd place in the AFC East this morning.

The media and Bills fans see the schedule and know the tough part of your schedule hasn’t even hit yet.

Oh god a Pats* fan commenting on no calls hahaha priceless

If we are going to play that game, Barkley was pushed backwards out of bounds a couple plays earlier in the drive and the clock didn’t keep running. They never should have had 2 chances for DPIs to begin with

Love Josh,  but if he has a fatal flaw it's not just taking an open guy when it's there.  So many times he passes a wide open receiver  looking for something else only to find now nothing is open

In the Jet’s game that was true. Since then he’s been excellent at taking who’s open quick, and that’s almost always and only Diggs. Let’s wait until the All-22 comes out but from the TV angles I didn’t see many guys open at all. A huge part of that is Dorsey’s crap play calling, another part is we have a bunch of JAGs including Davis outside of Diggs.

  19. W. That’s all that matters this early in the season. Now let me complain…

I called this in the lead-up thread. This was a perfect Billsy game playing down to the competition. When do we ever blow the doors off a team when every single angle points to a Bills blow out? Never.

#1 problem is Dorsey. I held my tongue last year, I defended him in the first 3 games because his game plans were good, the last 3 games he’s absolutely sucked. It’s like he spends all off season coming up with a plan, teams adjust after a few games and his play sheet becomes 90% “Josh make a play”

This offense has NO identity. It looks like sandlot football where guys just call plays in the huddle. Zero set up, zero flow. It’s an abomination not to start running the ball until the second quarter. No one gets open besides Diggs and the play calling isn’t helping matters much. Too much shotgun, and that shotgun run on the goal line is a fireable offense.

I really think they’ve coached the dog out of Josh. There were at least 3 first downs Josh could have easily run and slid for where he hesitated and threw short or incomplete. This is a big problem. I agree we want him to take fewer hits but it’s obvious he’s thinking too much when there’s tons of green in front of him for easy yards. We need those legs in the right situations and I think Dorsey/McD have done him and the team a disservice by taking that away.

Love the W. Hope they figure it out on offense. Lots of games left to be played.

He doesn't have a major fracture the way we normally think of a broken foot, but one of the small bones in his feet is broken. It's the kind of injury you can technically play on because it's not possible to make the injury worse, but he could cause the healing to be delayed if he puts too much stress on it. Mostly it is about pain tolerance and making sure it can still heal properly.

Where did you get this from? The only bones in the foot are metacarpals (Toes) and meta tarsals (connected to the toes) before the ankle/leg bones. A broken toe you can deal with. A broken metacarpal, which is more likely, can absolutely be made worse with continued use and if it’s a hairline fracture they he’s definitely at risk for fracturing it completely and requiring surgery.

I was worried about a broken metatarsal (Sammy Watkins had this and had surgery then came back too soon) so please let me know where you heard this. I’d be shocked if they are letting him play with that but who knows, I’ve been wrong before.

Ok so this is the type of game where Buffalo scares the sht out of me.

Every single factor points to us absolutely destroying their offense. They have by far the WORST O-line in the league with all their injuries. We have one of the best D-lines (Well, with Jones we did) and the most sacks in the league.

Everything points to us blowing up their offense. Why do I think that’s not going to happen? Is it my BBFS kicking in?

It seems so often that when we have a clear advantage in one area, we don’t take advantage of it. Against Cinci they had a garbage O-line and we didn’t take advantage of it.

I’m still worried we play down to our opponent. Hopefully I’m wrong and we blow their doors off.

  21. I’m one of those “Just Win Baby” posters and I don’t care how it gets done. Nothing matters this early in the season except stacking W’s. How it’s done means nothing other than to make some posters feel good about themselves and the team. The key is to peak towards the end of the season into the playoffs assuming we have the record to make the playoffs (and that’s not a given despite the attitude here).

So just win. If we destroy them like we did Miami then great! I LOVED that. I LOVED destroying the Pats* in the playoffs with a perfect game. But I didn’t expect it, and I never do. I just hope for the W and anything more than that is gravy.
