1. >>>>For some people here, they only see party politics...<<<<

Are you referring to those who think that ethnic slurs, when made by a democrat hag, are compliments?   :w00t:  :w00t:

    331372

I think this one has "jumped the shark" with me Bill?

Democrat hag? Wow, she must really piss you off Bill... :o

I thought my DEMOCRAT grandfather calling FDR a "crippled bastard" was crude?

  2. Good.

I have GEICO and you are clearly a high risk driver that drives up my premiums!  Go away and get another insurer Mr. Lead Foot. :w00t:

    331143

That is a double edge sword Scott... What happens if he gets everybody to modify and become street racers? You know, bands the GEICO crowd united in his hobby?

Your premiums will surely go up since there will be less GEICO customers to draw on!

    :o:doh::blink:

  3. What a race...terrific last quarter.

Great race. I know of one person who pick the winner! I did not see to many smiling faces at Buffalo Raceway yesterday after the race.

    331368

You are pretty close to the raceway... Probably busy!

Buffalo raceway always reminds me of my grandfather. When I was young, before OTB... My grandfather lived with us. He wanted my mother to drive from South Cheektowaga to Hamburg and place a 10 dollar bet... She was washing the floor and said "Dad, keep your money... It won't come in!" She went on with her work, never placing the wager... Guess what... IT CAME IN!

HE NEVER LET HER FORGET IT! :o

  4. When I said burden... I meant both the student and parent. I know it is hard sometimes to call if you are in the military.

What I am saying is if I was the parent... I would have accepted full responsibility for this foul-up... It would have been honorable for the kid to oblige the rules too.

Just as in a traffic stop... You are not going to argue with the officer.

Be respectful, polite and accept the ticket... You can fight it later with your day in court.

You will not win on somebody else's turf... Especially, if it gets heated... You will just find yourself in MORE hot water.

That is what we should be teaching our kids... MODERATION.

  5. If I am a teacher and the kids says something like:'May I please take this call? It's my mom in Iraq' I would let the kid talk for as long as he wanted. However,if the kid says something to the effect of 'F you,you m f'er',then it's a different story. I can venture a pretty good guess as to what went down in this particular situation.

Teachers don't have any real authority in the classroom anymore.Talking loudly in class complete with 'f bombs' is the norm in a lot of schools.

I'm of the 'spare the rod and spoil the child' school myself. A lot of these kids needed a good, swift whack on the ass when they got out of line during their developmental years.Unfortunately,a lot of baby boomers drank too much of the Dr. Spock kool-aid and are strictly enablers as parents.Disipline and respect have become lost concepts. We reap what we sew.......

    331355

    Exactly!

As so eloquently AD pointed out :o I DID NOT HEAR the kid's take on it. I am probably guessing it went down something like you said and they are trying to "push the issue"... Maybe not?

Like I said before, if he made a point to be respectful and a valid gesture knowing it was against the rules... I take, the teacher wouldn't have came down hard if the student didn't go off?

I have to trust the authority figures here... Not doing so, only compounds the situation and undermines things further.

The burden should be on the student.

Unfortunately the media (whoever exposed it) wants the burden to fall on the school? Politically motivated? I don't know? But, it undermines a lot.

  6. I had to switch insurance providers due to GEICO's policy of no car modification.  I have a perfect driving record, and have gone 11 years without being in an accident.  Yet GEICO has labeled me a "street racer" due to my performance upgrades on my car.  I spend my off-time working in my garage tuning my import.  It's my hobby and everything is 100% NYS legal.  Why is GEICO trying to keep the blue smurf down...

"were on our way to 100% customer satisfaction....." ::fyou::

    331127

Because you are "Too Fast and Too Furious!"

Just go the old man root and soup up that Grand Marquis!

    :o:doh:

  7. The skip doctor isn't bad for the superficial read side (bottom) scratches... I guess the same as distilled water and a soft cotton cloth... The skip doctor puts it into a neat little device?

If you have mirror side (top) scratches... Forget about it... Nothing may fix the error.

Remember... It is important to protect the top (pretty) side at all cost. The data is in the middle with the bottom protected by clear plastic... That bottom can be polished or buffed to reduce the error. When the laser goes through the bottom, it reads the data in the middle and hits the mirror side (top) and goes back (to the player)... If that mirror is damaged? You will have a hard time eliminating the error!

I always thought about marketing a stick on mirror to correct damaged disks? Not sure if this would work?

    Any thoughts?

  8. A  nine thousand $ exacta and a six figure tri!!! :o

  9. Do you actually know the difference between the 2?  I'm starting to wonder.  Or is this another moment where your odd (or lame, depending on perview) sense of humor has overcome the thimbleful of common sense the good Lord blessed you with?

Why did this turn so ugly?

I totally apoligize if I inflamed in you in any way. It was not intended.

    Again, SORRY.

  10. I didn't see any quotes attributed to the kid, so as usual it seems you have no relevant counterpoint within your argument.

My question about "QUOTATION MARKS" comes from your previous response.  I have no idea wtf YOUR statement about "QUOTATION MARKS" withing THAT post had to do with anything.  I'm fully aware of MY statement on 'QUESTION MARKS" (which is still relevant, obviously, as you have at least 2 too many in the post I'm currently responding to).  Apparently your reading comprehension is about as good as the rest of your cognitive abilities.

You buy your underwear at KMart in Cincinnati, Ohio, Raymond?

    331325

I guess we are just failing to communicate today "RainMan?"

I understand your POV as an ex-military guy giving the kid the benefit of the doubt.

I also see your POV and distain for the educational system.

I am SORRY that I trust authority more...

But, keep on waging the everybody is incompetent shtick...

You know how much I like the last word?:w00t: I will give it to you. Carry on...

  11. Typical revisionist history.  Look up the 16th Amendment sometime.  You'll learn something.

    331322

So what are you saying... The GD was casued by the collection of income tax (16th, 1913)?

    On another note...

Ya... Right... Even if they put into place crippling tariffs (Smoot-Hawley Tariff) that have ramifications throughout the world?

It is in the constitution! By damn, I think we will use it!

    :o:doh:

  12. Gee, thanks for the judgement.  I'll sleep much better tonight knowing some guy 3500 miles away likes me, despite my "issues."  :o

Learn the proper usage of a question mark.

??? Quotation marks? What are you babbling about now?

If I ever need to score high on an ASVAB test... I will sure ask for your help!

    :doh::blink:

  13. Ah, so do as I say not as I do.  That's about all we needed to know about that.

As for the kid, I wasn't there and it's not out of the realm that teacher's and administrators LIE to cover their own ass when they make a decision that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

As for the timing of the mother's call, I understand her situation.  You obviously don't - but don't let that stop you from being an overwhelming douche bag.

Quotation marks?  WTF are you babbling about now?

    331319

Like the kid wouldn't lie to cover his arse either? That doesn't happen.

The question is? How the heck did this hit the media?

You asked me about my questionable use of quotation marks?

    You wrote:

Later, head down to the local library and pick up a book on punctuation. Review the chapter on proper use of question marks. Damn.

    :o:doh:

  14. In hindsight it is easy to say we were left out to dry but considering the politics of the time (and in the previous World War) it is not at all surprising that America did not join the allies until much later.

The Isolationist movement after WWI was extremely strong and there would have been enormous repercussions had FDR led you into war prior to the attack by the Japanese. As it was he ensured Britain had the material to fight the war 'alone' (Although at that time the UK was the only nation in the Nazi firing line after the fall of France we did still have allies (the Empire) and could draw upon a large amount of manpower). Of course this had to come at a price (if it was not for us giving the designs of jet engines as part of the deal Boeing/Airbus would only be bit layers in the aircraft business without havnig to pay the (now non-existant)  UK equivalent huge license fees to use the tech, for example),  the use of bases around the world, 'lend-lease', etc.

There was a huge myth at the time that the first war was caused by a cabal of evil arms manufacturers, the industrial military complex, and they forced America's hand (which ignored the Prussian Imperialistic ambitions & racism (later to reappear in an even more nasty form under Hitler), plot to attack America by helping Mexico reclaim the territory America had grabbed from her prior to the civil war and the unrestricted submarine warfare of Prussia/Germany).

In all FDR is NOT seen in the UK as someone who let us down, and although there is still some grumbling about the Americans always arriving late overall it is just typical Brits taking the mickey as we are generally well aware that the leadership at the time in the US did all that was practical given the political realities in America. After all in the same way you did not really want to go to war neither did we, and tried very hard to avoid it (leading to the Munich agreement, and then the catastrophes that followed).

    331313

I agree. Great insight and history!

My point to Bill was that presidents can't be everything to all people, including people that vote them in (ie: My grandfather)

I don't see FDR as letting down the UK. For some people here, they only see party politics... FDR is the republican public enemy numer 1 because of his New Deal domestic policies that brought us through the GD... Depression that rose out of conservative ideals.

    O well!

    :o

  15. Yeah, it's nice to tell one side of the story - as the media is so well known for.

Was it not you who brought up the timing of the mother's call?  Now read over your last line again, hero.  Later, head down to the local library and pick up a book on punctuation.  Review the chapter  on proper use of question marks.  Damn.

    331312

Yes... That is before I knew all the facts... It seems perfectly acceptible in this region. My point was from the way I would have viewed it if I was the parent. I am SORRY that you took my judgement on what the mother did and her timing so personal. She did have to be calling at about midnight local time???

Just imagine how they would handle those 3,700 students if the district/school didn't micromanage the calls?

It seems that you condone the kid going off on his superiors/teachers? Why doesn't that surprise me? You wouldn't have precedent in doing this to your fellow board members?

I added the quotation marks... I wasn't concerned about proper grammar. I also italicized them.

My main emphasis was that I wanted to show it was from another source... But, if you want to split hairs and tear me down anyway you can... Be my guest.

The problem is that this even made the media.

The kid pleas down to 3 days for his insubordination and it is final... But, throw it into the news and it all gets PC'd (Patriotically Corrected).

  16. Supposedly these are the key facts:

"The teen, whom Muscogee County School District Superintendent John Phillips Jr., wouldn't name, did not tell the teacher he was talking to his mother in Iraq. "

"We are endeavoring to have the young man readmitted after a three-day suspension, which was the first option for him. It was only after greater defiance and profanity that the suspension was extended," Phillips said.

"Phillips said the school, which is located near Fort Benning, often arranges for students to receive calls from parents who are deployed. More than 3,700 students in the district belong to military families."

But, feel free to turn it into anything you want?

  17. Proving yet again that you have almost nothing relevant to add.

    331306

Like name-calling? That is so unbecoming?

Why don't you just tone it down a little?... Learn to articulate yourself better. Maybe you will be less defensive?

In general, I like you Darin... You have issues though...

    :o

  18. You're an idiot - but that's not exactly news.  An "education system" that is rigidly inflexible is one of the main reasons we have so many unprepared kids joining our work force.  I'm sure that allowing this one phone call would have caused total anarchy and the demise of our very society.  Somehow I don't think giving this kid 10 days is going to help the situation at all in regards to his respect for those at the school.

I can't even pretend to understand the rest of your swamp swill induced gobbledeegook conclusions.  But I'm sure you'll do your best to get your tongue off the window long enough to explain it in an even less understandable manner.

    331304

Why don't you read the facts Darin... They DIDN'T know he was talking to his mother overseas.

Didn't they reduce it to 3 days?

I take his incorrigable attitude when asked about the call is at the root of the matter?

But... Go ahead and soldier on your crusade.

    :o

  19. Once again, the retard rodeo shows how little they understand anything outside their own little world.

"Why did his mom call while he was in school?"

Uh, probably because that's when she had both opportunity and ability.  You see, when serving in 3rd world countries it's not always easy or affordable to speak to your family members.  The rules are probably a little different now (or maybe they aren't) but when I was in we got ONE morale call a month on the government.  Because there are so many people, they are generally at programmed times.

Now, that may or may not be the case but thanks to the school and some of you for "supporting the troops."  Zero tolerance policies, lack of understanding, and lemmings who follow along all SUCK.  :o

    331291

You might be right AD... Nice spin!

You see... It is all about me, me and ME...

Think about putting your kid first and worry about your own arse... What a cop out!

But blame the education system because they won't "bend" the rules.

    :doh::blink:

  20. Let me change my initial statement.  You are a fuggin' idiot.

    Spin it however you want.

Elitist?  Typical liberal tactic.  Yeah, the problem's all mine.

In an era of continuingly strained racial relations, here is one of our most recognized politicians tossing out a stereotype as a "joke."  If a High School student started an oral report exactly the same way, they'd likely face expulsion.

Yet somehow you manage to turn this into "Indian guy 'owning' a gas station" as an honorable thing.  You're far more amazing than Grant.  :o

    330963

Thanks. When I get you guys to the point of name-calling... My job is done!

  21. I think both parties could have handled the situation alot better.

    331288

    I totally agree.

What if that kid was at work? Shouldn't his education be seen as "his job?"

The teacher could have let him slide and said hushly: "Make it quick and out of sight."

We are always complaining about the education system. There is no reason why the mother should have been this "selfish" and undercut her son's NUMBER 1 responsibility!

UNLESS IT WAS A EMERGENCY ON HER PART!

What did we do when there were no cellphones? There are other means. This is clearly a case where our "instant" society is harmful. But, we find ways to blame EVERYBODY ELSE.
