Oh yeah, McNally will fix everything!!!!!!
R. Rich replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hahahaha!!!! If only they'd listen to us, since we know it all. Yeah, right. Still, I do wish they'd take a more dedicated effort to building a great offensive line. Someone once asked me what I'd do if I became a coach in terms of which areas I'd address first. The answer is still the same even 17 years later. 1. Build the best offensive line possible. 2. Build the best defense possible. 3. Everything else. -
Wilfork was one of the guys I wanted. On draft day, as our pick was drawing near, I was hoping they'd seriously consider Tommie Harris though. I thought he could be moved to LDE and give us a reliable player out there. If we were to trade down, I was hoping we'd target Carey, but I was thinking of a trade down to where Tennessee, Seattle, or even Dallas was at and Miami traded up to #19 to take him. Damn. Side note: I watched Shawn Andrews play at RG for Philly in the preseason and he looked unstoppable! It's too bad he got hurt and had to be put on IR. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do in the regular season.

Same here. I understood he needed not only more time, but more talented players. That's why I sent an email to Tyke Tolbert and to McNally after the draft asking why Tolbert, fresh off developing Anquan Boldin, needed more talent at WR while McNally, a well respected line coach who has developed a lot of pretty good players in his career, didn't need any. I never did get an answer from them. How good is Alex Barron? Pretty damn good, actually. Not to worry; with no first round pick, he'll be long gone by the time we can make a move. Unless we trade back into the first round, that is. But, if we're going to do that, it'll have to be around the same area as where Evans was taken if not higher. The only thing that concerns me with Barron is that while he's a big guy at 6-6 and about 310, he could be a little bigger and stronger. He is very athletic, and that will serve him well as an NFL left tackle. -
They both can't be having good seasons? And how can a first round pick, the 7th player taken in the entire draft, be a steal? When I think of a 'steal', I think of a lower round guy making good on his shot at the pros, like Terrell Owens going from being a 3rd round pick to being an elite WR, or Brady being a 2 time Super Bowl MVP after being drafted in the 6th round. Is Roy having the best season to date? I'd say so. But, as a first round pick, shouldn't he be? Isn't that what we've been saying is the problem with Mike Williams?

Rick Mirer did not look as mature or composed as Roethlisberger has so far. I've been watching him play for the past 2.5 seasons and this guy is for real. He just does not look intimidated in the least. Some of it has to do with playing in a pro style offense at Miami, but a lot has to do with his character, I believe. So many people have been ragging on him and I don't know why. Maybe it's because he played in the MAC, which hasn't produced any talented players (Randy Moss), especially at the QB position (Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington, Charlie Batch). Yeah, only major colleges produce good players. Riiiiiiiiiiiight. That's a bunch of crap. To me, when people were ragging on Big Ben going into the draft, that's what they did. They didn't say he can't throw or run or make good decisions, they talked about him playing in the MAC. Garbage. It reminds me of the Tom Brady bashing a bit. We can't talk about on the field performance with Brady, so what do we do? We call him gay. Whatever.

How long should we wait, LA? I'm not ready to storm the castle with pitchforks and torches, but I really am tired of seeing the offensive line being ignored by the Bills. It sure would be nice if we put as much effort into rebuilding our offensive line as we did our defense or as we've attempted to our "skill players" on offense. -

Let 'em go. Just as I would never leave the Bills, I'll never leave Penn State, no matter how many crappy seasons I'd have to endure. I'm a fan of both teams for life. -

I agree. I even mentioned that to Nervous Guy before. Every program will have some down time. Right now, Penn State is trying to get back to being a national title contender. It's not going to be easy though. -

PSU had a brief period of time in the early 90s when they were still a national power. But, since then, it's been some lean times. I'll be at the game in South Bend if at all possible. -

Hahaha!!! I guess that could apply to the Bills too, but I was referring to PSU. -

I'm still trying to get to go to that game in South Bend. I've been waiting for that game for 12 years, even since Mirer hit Brooks for the 2 pt conversion that did us in. -
You'd still have 6 decent at best OL.
-
As for Jonas, if he really wants the big payday and won't stay for a reasonable amount, I really hope we decide to let him go. We can get a Jonas-like effort out of some other free agent for less than what he'll want, I'm sure.

Then again, if Losman does play, we might. The reason their sack total was so inflated was that Randall Cunningham took a lot of sacks by moving out of the pocket and being caught behind the line. Kind of a high risk/high reward type deal. Losman is a guy who also has the tendency of leaving the pocket a lot.

I saw the game from the beginning of the 4th quarter on, and I didn't notice anything from Rubin. I did tivo the game, so if you want a copy to watch, just let me know. I'll probably watch that game and the OU-Texas game (also tivo'd) some time today since I'm off work for the holiday. -
He's doing an okay job, but he isn't playing as well as a highly paid #4 overall pick should.

Lori brought up a point the BADOL made about the team has talent but does not have players. Is it just that the Donahoe regime has not been able to do a good job of evaluating the players and getting the right guys here? Whether we draft high or sign free agents, the majority of the guys we get just don't seem to measure up. We've had our successes like Spikes, Adams, and Milloy (though I feel he hasn't played as well as expected), but we've also had guys who aren't playing up to expectations, like Williams. Are these guys just bad at evaluating talent/players, or is it something else?

Can't say I disagree with you. My brother graduated from Miami of Ohio in '89 and got me to start watching Big Ben 2 seasons ago. This guy is the real deal.

We just don't have WRs that are reliable, or a QB that can play in the clutch, or an offensive line that can blow people off the ball and open up massive holes for the running game. -

True. She's still on a high because her team won and she was there to see it. Hmmm..... -
I have a great idea for TBD fans.

Wow. I haven't seen the latest polls, but they moved up for beating half a team in the closing seconds (PSU has good defense, bad offense)???? Gotta love those college rankings. They certainly are rank. -

Yeah, just throw the Henne log onto the fire of other players who didn't come to PSU for some reason or another, like Bryant McKinnie and Michael Vick. -

Hahaha!!! Thank goodness for a bye. -
By the way, I just told Psycho Ward 86 (who's still giddy from watching her team decimate the Brownies) that you registered. She said you should've used "Pebbles" instead of babyrock. Hahaha!!!
