Predicting the Bengals try to package Higgins to Chicago to move to #9 if the right player is available still.

    Chicago gets: Higgins, #18, #80

    Cincy gets #9.

How many WRs do the Bears need? They e got Moore and Keenan. Not sure it's wise for them to spend more at WR besides at 9 they could get an Edge to play opposite Sweat.

You never know. Some WR's dominate right away. Take Garrett Wilson for example and he didn't have a QB. I am guessing the Bills passing game will revolve around Kincaid now anyway. The Bills will need a #1 WR. I bet no matter who they get they will have a good year with Allen as their QB.

Wilson also didn't compete with a Kincaid for targets or a Shakir or Samuel or Cooks. More than not WR who have great rookie stats are guys who are the only guy to throw to. I mean Nijigma-Smith was the 3rd WR on depth chart but didn't put up the numbers that Zay Flowers did. Was it a lack of skill or opportunity? Honestly any rookie that comes in is likely not.going to get the 160 targets Diggs got no matter how good a project they are. I fully expect our rookie WR to get between 80-100 targets at best. I want a big X like most but know that no matter who we draft he likely be 3rd or 4th best pass catcher we have in 2024.

This is true but the winner has arguably the greatest TE to ever play the game and a true game changer for Mahomes to rely on. With Diggs in Houston the Bills need a #1 WR to help take the pressure of Kincaid and give Allen another weapon to work with.

And you think it's realistic for a rookie to immediately step into that role as a #1?  Even if we got a chance of one of top 3 that's a big expectation.

Playing it safe most years is partly why they've ended their season with a Divisional Round loss three years running.  Yet, the one time this regime went big on draft in 2018 they landed Josh.  Credit to McBeane for being bold and positioning themselves to move up for JA.  You can't do that every year, but there's a time and a place for it, notably QB and now WR.  Fortune favors the bold.

The NFL remains an offensive-driven league and I'm not sure how people keep missing this.  You don't get as far with a pedestrian or even decent offense and a regular season excellent defense in the playoffs.  The strategy hasn't worked in years.

Other thing is to what's happening in the background.  No, this isn't Whaley and Brandon using future picks they might never have had after RW passed away which has been pointed to in this thread.  But it probably isn't lost on McBeane that they are selling PSL's, a new stadium is going in, and they need to win.  I don't think Terry is as hands-on with the Bills, but that's a factor, even if distant.  McBeane should take a calculated risk, if they deem the player worth it, because Josh deserves more than what is on the roster now.

and as good as our offense was against the Chiefs, it was the Chiefs defense that stopped us when the game mattered or even I could say our lack of defense wasn't able to stop the Chiefs offense enough to win. I mean our offense put up the 2nd most points the Chiefs gave up all season in that playoff game and we still lost.

I think he can play the Diggs' role. You'd still need to get a big X. I have advocated for McConkey and a trade up from 60 for Legette. Naturally, you're free to draw your own conclusions and advocate for whatever you like. If you think you only need one receiver to add to the WR group (I don't,) then a big trade up for Odunze is probably the best you could do if focused on the kind of boundary receiver you are looking for.

I know for whatever reason, you don't normally respond to anything I write, but the questions on Mitchell are about his effort, his diabetes, etc. I can't answer how much of that is manageable, real, etc. I do like him.

As a type 1 diabetic it's easy to control these thanks to pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems. Granted I'm not running routes etc which can impact sugars quicker than normal but one can carb up purposely to help avoid lows. People questioning effort don't watch enough football to realize all guys don't go balls to the walls on every down. My issue with McConkey is he doesn't beat people with pure speed but seem to make moves to avoid getting hit etc which great in the return game but as a receiver I worry as he struggled with injuries in college what's going to happen when the big guys start hitting him.

Yeah,  I think it's unlikely he'll be there at 28,  though I do think he might fall far enough to be within reach of a realistic trade up.   I'm not sure it's smart to trade up for him under the circumstances,  but late teens/early 20s,  I think the Bills would be interested if they were comfortable with the medical side.

One of the Robinsons might be there at #28, I wouldn't be shocked if we grabbed one unless get a good offer to move down.

No surprise as some have compared him to Josh Allen and we all know who's running that team. That said would think the Patriots only ones that would trade down toss in with talk Daniels upset with the Commanders Maye might not be there at 3.

I agree with your take. I'm still pissed that we didn't get that 3rd rounder for Edmunds.

I do think that Beane will look to move up, but I don't think there will be any takers.

Trading down seems very likely. Maybe we move down a couple spots with San Francisco, and get one of their many draft picks. Then find someone early in the second round to trade with?

Washington has a bunch of 2nd/3rds so I'd definitely see if they'd be willing especially if a good Edge rusher and/or OT is still on board at 28  as assume they stay at 2 and take a QB. Yet admit we need a pass rusher too.

  9. Legette is my 3rd realistic guy after top 3. As like Thomas Jr., Mitchell and Legette. As to me his size/speed separates him from the McConkleys Persall and Worthy to be a WR1 Yet if we wait or trade down can see taking a Franklin or Baker or Walker as WR2 guys that can play on the outside.

If you had to take one of those two in the first, who do you like?  I would take McConkey because I believe in his ability to separate as much as anyone in the draft, but I really like Legette at 28 too.

If I were king, I would take McConkey plan for him and Shakir to man the Z and the slot, go defense at 60, and make sure I get Brendan Rice later to be our X with size.  Rice should last for a while and we should go up and get him, IMHO.  Every review of his game says whatever shortcomings he has, he has immediate acceleration and can take the top off.  There is a shortage of big X type receivers after the top 3 (the others I see are Legette who I really like, Mitchell and Franklin, who I worry about, and Walker, who I do NOT like).   McConkey, [Defense], Rice, [Defense the rest of the way, save maybe an interior lineman and a very late RB].  Do this and I am thrilled

You might want to move this to the main forum. Legette, he has more upside.  Toss in McConkey had a back issue which to me a scary injury as sometimes you can never fully recover from them.

Here is the deal...teams are gonna fleece Beane if he tries to tradeup.  Everyone knows we want a WR, so they will jack up the trade compensation

and to me WR isn't a trade up worth position, yes Julio Jones is a great example but he's the exception not the rule. Toss in did he ultimately win the Falcons a championship? No.

Honestly I'm a wait and see approach, obviously I'd love Brian Thomas Jr but he'll likely go before us but don't feel he's so much better than some of the guys behind him. Yet think a guy like AD Mitchell's stock falling and could be there, if not hope we land a quality pass rusher if not trade back and hope to get a Legette in the early 2nd and get another pick that can help. As we aren't just a WR away, we have plenty of holes on the depth chart and some of them like DL don't have as great of prospects as WR does. Also the idea of two WRs baffles me especially early, how many passes are we expecting these kids to get? As to me Kincaid, Shakier, Cook and Samuel are going to get the majority of looks this year. I'm guessing the rookie might get 80-100 targets at most. Sure I could see taking a flier on a kid in Round 6 or 7 that could also pose as a return specialist and develop yet not likely starting material.

T Lockett, to me, is not the same level as what I expected from Diggs in 2024.  And Lockett was just signed to a deal with a signing bonus, so if the Bills wanted him they would probably need to give a little boost in draft capital to offset the low salary.  I hope the Bills go in a different direction than him.

I wasn't advocating we add Lockett just it make more logical sense to move on from the 30 plus year old WR vs Metcalf.

Yes, I am all for trading a lower draft pick for one of the vets.  I think Beane would stay away from the divas that require both draft capital and money, so J Jeff/Aiyuk/Higgins would be out.  But other options remain:

For instance I use the Tenn + DHop as an example, if they take Rome at #7 then DHop would be prime candidate to deal for a 4th.

Similarly C Godwin at Tampa could possibly be moved since they just poured big bucks into M Evans.

D Metcalf might be a possibility with new management wanting to craft a team.

I think after Beane does one of those type of moves to replace Diggs the draft becomes more in line with what we expected before.  Maybe trade down and get that 3rd back.  DL and WR would top the list but we can't count out the love for a S or CB.

If anything new management would move an aging Tyler Lockett over Metcalf.
