This makes me wonder.... ASSUMING you have at least a halfway decent coach and give him 10 years, will you experience some sustained success? Hell, Marvin Lewis took the Bengals to multiple playoffs, but never won. IMO Cowher was just OK. He was good, but not some sort of all-time great. Lindy Ruff was the same thing in hockey. Great motivator, fan favorite, but mediocre head coach. But the Sabres did have some success under him. Tomlin is a better coach, especially for today's players. Coaches used to get multiple losing seasons before they got fired. Now it's win in 2-3 years or you're gone. There is a LOT to be said for having a system, drafting players for that system, and having some consistency in approach, methods, messaging. I'd like to see McDermott be here for 10+ years. He's proven to be a great strategic coach, he can motivate players, and beyond that it comes down to talent IMO.

Vic Fangio wants to see NFL drop divisions format
TheFunPolice replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like they are going to up the playoffs to 7 teams per conference with only 1 bye To me, that makes the most sense. The best 14 teams in the league get into the tournament. Sometimes wonky things happen, but that doesn't mean you need to change the system. -
Reputation and perception cannot be controlled and aren't up to the league. Outside of Boston this story is a reminder that NE cheats. Maybe it wasn't "that bad" this time around, maybe it was. Does it matter? This is why you have to win the hardware. Peyton Manning is sitting on his couch watching Brees and Brady vie to break his career passing record and there isn't a thing he can do about it. But win Super Bowl 54 and some guy can come in and throw for 75 TDs and 7000 yards in a season and you still will always be SB 54 champions.

Ravens will lock up the #1 seed with a win vs the Jets and WHEN we go into NE and put the dynasty down next week! First, we have some other business to attend to this Sunday night. If the Ravens end up sitting guys and that allows Pittsburgh in then I'm fine with it. Tomlin has always been a favorite of mine and I would be happy to see him get some kudos. Unfortunately this Sunday we're going to have to ruin his day, but I've got no issue with Pittsburgh getting in as the #6 unless it makes NE's path easier.

that article details the reasons why so many people hate NE so much Can you imagine American sports fans hating Mahomes and Reid if the Chiefs won 3 of the next 4 Super Bowls? Or if Peyton Manning had won a few more titles, would everyone have hated him and Dungy? Of course not. It's the DOCUMENTED CHEATING combined with timely BS calls AND the "undisputable GOAT" talk that makes so many of us sick.

The Patriots Have a Tom Brady Problem
TheFunPolice replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady literally drops down to the ground the second pressure gets anywhere near him... He's got a busted up elbow and a foot injury. Let's get them a 4th loss when we play them, then they lose out on a bye if KC wins out. Plus they will need to play all 17 weeks. No resting starters. No week off to heal. And on top of all that, they will likely draw the 6th seed team in the Wild Card round, which this year could very well be the physical Titans team. The Titans will tune them up a bit, and IF they get through that one, it's on the road to KC or Baltimore. -
I would have to have my smile surgically removed. I know this is going to sound bad, but I think I hate the Patriots as much as I love the Bills at this point. It is what it is. That team has ruined football for 20 years for me. Every December/January everything is through the lens of "who has the best chance to stop NE from getting back to the Super Bowl?" I just want to enjoy the games again.

At the end of the day it's just more of a lifting the curtain on that franchise. in 2019 alone they have had several stories come out that show just how crooked and underhanded they are: 1) The Kraft "incident" 2) Brady's plan to get Antonio Brown from Pittsburgh to New England. The two of them 100% set it up, Brown practically admitted as much during his handful of days in NE. He hired people to help him force his way out of Oakland and into free agency for the express purpose of playing with Brady in NE. The fact that the plan blew up in their faces is hilarious and karma at its best! New England fans on their forums complain about how Belichick could go into the season so thin at WR. Hmmm it's almost like he knew that they would be signing Brown at some point, isn't it? Breaks your heart that it didn't work out the way they schemed it up. 3) Now this. Yet ANOTHER surveillance scandal. Let's call it what it is: surveillance of other teams. It's like a creepy guy sitting in a van across the street from your house watching it 24/7. Most of the day he's recording a static shot of the front of your house and literally nothing is happening. Nobody is even home. Does that excuse what he is doing? Plus, if you ask he works for the utility company!

When something doesn't make sense there is usually a reason... One team is so much smarter than EVERYONE else and understands football better than everyone else, even though they cannot draft worth a crap. Think about that one. I'm convinced that Ernie Adams' job is to watch all this video and learn as much about the other coaching staffs as possible. Like I said, people focusing on "why the Bengals?" are missing the point. Every second of the video could be useless. Or maybe not.
-
Why the Bengals? The Bengals? Again, because it's not about the Bengals or this week's game. Any advantage gained there is incidental. It's about building info on a new HC from the McVay tree. It's for the future as much as anything else. Taylor will be gone in a year or two in Cincy and end up the OC on a good team. This is just data for Ernie Adams to have at his disposal just in case he can notice something from the entire quarter worth of film of the coach on the sidelines. The Patriots look for every minute detail. It won them a Super Bowl vs Seattle. They knew the play because they knew every tiny nuance. Ernie Adams would watch film of McDermott eating breakfast, just to see if he could learn anything. 99% of this filming is probably useless, but it's about the 1 gem Ernie Adams can find. That's his job. It's surveillance of other coaching staffs, plain and simple. 99.9% of surveillance is mundane and useless. Just part of the deal.

I don't like dramatic extra points
