Total Anarchy is more likely than an actual war. In the unlikely event that the central government were taken out, the states would mobilize the national guard to protect the peace. What you'd need to worry about is whatever replaces the central government... For example, -Mike Huckabee and the evangelicals might try to form a new central government/theocracy. -There'd be pushback on something like that, and many states would choose not to follow. You'd also have to consider the population itself.... Generations of free-thinking has left us so factional, that we'd naturally separate from those with different interests, and ally with those consitent with our politics.... There'd be untold numbers of competing groups defending their interests, and protecting their people. Meanwhile, what about the electrical grid? -Does everyone have access clean water? -Medical services? Are sewage and water treatment facilities still operational? Expect diseases like cholera, influenza, and dysentery to take out tens of thousands... It'd be pretty Darwinian to say the least. Still hot after all these years.

I doubt it could happen on a continental scale... Although, a civil war in Texas seems likely at some point.

Some I've spoken to entertain romantic thoughts of a polarized Left vs. Right conflict that would split the country in two, but I can't see that at all. Mostly because the U.S. features too many competing factions for them to be condensed into two diametrically opposed sides. In fact, -If I wanted to engineer a country immune to large-scale civil conflict, it would look a lot like the good-old U. S. of A ! 328 million people all trying to make it home from work early... It's a competitive environment... Relatively high cost of living with a good, stable, economy. It has a large immigrant population, a racially integrated workforce, good infrastructure, and access to goods and services. -Who'd wanna f__k that up? If anything, a U.S. civil war would be triggered by some catastrophic event.. -Outbreak of a pathogen, natural disaster, -or military coup.... Bottom line: -The political/economic climate is too stable to be conducive to anything like a real war. While this isn't an exact representation of the American political spectrum, it offers some perspective. Thing is... I believe Beane missed on a whole lot more than Allen... I think there's a chance he missed on as many as three players in the '18 draft. If that's the case, then he should be fired... A GM simply needs to have better instincts than that.

I don't live too far from the U.S.-Mex Border... I have no illusions about what goes on there, because I've seen it. I'm not anti-wall because I'm soft on the cartels, gangs, and human traffickers. I'm anti-wall because I don't think it will stop a damn thing... These cartels are powerful, ruthless, syndicates. -Flush with cash, and unlimited manpower We're building this outrageously expensive baby-gate hoping it will stop a 14-year old, which it won't... As for the separation of families at the border, I'd have to say it comes with the territory of human smuggling... I'd also say there's a chance these kids have seen far worse than the inside of a clean, air-conditioned, well-provisioned, detention center... This is one time I honestly feel like we're doing the best we can. The alternative is to do nothing. And be assured that If the U.S. fails to establish rule of law at the border, -the cartels will not. So the choice is simple... Our rules or theirs. How's that for romantic?
