I was big on the Cardale team because he has such a great skill set and seems to be the perfect developmental qb. However, I'm starting to think his fatal flaws might be too much to overcome. Add to that Urban Meter Qbs don't translate well to the NFL. He is probably the most interesting qb prospect in the draft. If he gets drafted in the right spot, it could be a home run. But he really needs to sit for a bit and learn. Agree with TWO things here... Took the Liberty of highlighting both.... You're dead-on when you say Physical talent is just a small part of the picture... The bigger part, to me, is how an individual responds to pressure and/or adversity... The "mental game" if you will... it's one of the big things that separated Russell Wilson from the rest of the QB's in that class... Like it or not, Cardale Jones won a NC.... He made throws he had no business making in a game he had absolutely no business being in... Being able to rise to occaisions is HUGE for leadership roles in the NFL... Instead of cuting him down for getting benched, Cardale should be applauded for winning when he had the opportunity... PM got benched earlier this year too... For a guy with deep NFL bloodlines the sherriff looked downright terrible at times... Still, look who won out in the end... I was a little disheartened by Cardale's social media follies, but I understand these things are an immovable pat of his generation... It's weird to guys like us beacause we didn't grow up with anything like it! -Hate to think what would have resulted if we did. I agree that Urban Meyer QB's struggle to translate... But why? -My observations lead me to believe that Urban Meyer is a master of talent assesment... He grabs kids he identifies as winners. -Period. However, he isn't so much at the "development" aspect of the sport. Say what you want about Tim Tebow, the guy was, and IS, a stud athlete... Who DID win an NFL playoff game at QB... Alex Smith, another Urban Meyer QB, is an underrated athlete that has looked downright brilliant at times. -Contributing to a 10-game win streak for KC last season.. It took years... And a change of venue... Still, it happened. I put Cardale in the same bag as the others... Not based on draft-banter or wishful thinking, but on the grit he showed when the time came... -Which is what all this is about. Sitting is great., but it doesn't work for everybody... Some guys learn better on the job, and that's a fact... I'll go on record as saying that if Cardale rejects the fear others are imparting to him, and continues to hone his mental game, he will be a fearsome weapon in this league. I don't recall feeling that way about Losman, or EJ.

It's gotta be Cardale now... We have needs at DT, ILB, and now OLB... If he's around in the 3rd, it's a steal...

Willie McGinest: Bills' D Will Come Together in 2016
#34fan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No love for Baccari Rambo? He had a few unremarkable games last year, but Safety is one of those positions you continue to grow at... Once your scheme is in place, -which it isn't... Rambo's instincts at the position make him worth hanging onto. Not holding out much hope for this... LOVE K-dub, but he's too vunerable to the injury bug... And quite frankly isn't the same collapsing, penetrating, force he was a few years back when he had 10.5 sacks... Without EXPERIENCED help coming off the edge, I don't see our DT's having great years... The kind of re-tooling this D requires calls for 1st, and perhaps even 2nd round picks to coach-up, then re-structure around. Solid? -No. Top Tier talent is an absolute MUST, That means your A'shawn Robinsons, and Reggie Raglands, are definitely in play if you're anywhere near serious. I agree that the secondary can be very solid... If left in tact, I think this unit could be a strength for '16-'17... -
Nonsense. -If he did that, there'd be no room for blustery speeches and worthless guarantees! You know, some of us actually tremble a the possibility of JOINT blustery, blow-hard, gobbledygook monologues from Wrecks and Rob. So don't ruin it for us. Take a time-out, mister... Go eat a effing snack, or something.

I'm happy for both Scottie-doo, and Fred... They got a chance to reach the playoffs, which is great for them... Could they have helped out? -Hard to say... I wouldn't have minded Scottie sticking around, tho.... Secondly, I'm like a food-insecure dog around good wings... -Especially if they're the xtra-hot crispy-skinned kind ... Chunky bleu cheese is a must, and tons of celery to lessen the guilt.. I'll settle for the ones in that thumbnail, but I typically reject all that breading. I have "Megaquon" at just 6'2".. I hate to be the size-queen in this discussion, but it's not big enough... We can wait,,, 5th-6th to UDFA Reggie Diggs is one of my faves... Ever heard of Toledo's Alonzo Russell??? -6'4" 205lbs of pure STUD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9672EZVSxAE Tell me we couldn't use summa that!

This is an intriguing topic which merits discussion... I've got alot to say about it, but i'm not sure it belongs in this thread... Shouldn't we start a new one?

It all comes down to RZ scoring percentages (touchdowns) The Bills rank 24th out of 32 teams in this aspect of the game. If you look at the top four 2015 performers for this metric, CAR, DET, NE, NYJ, respectively, you see all four teams have Primary Receiver's 6'3" or bettter, with over 70 catches, and 1100+ yards receiving.... CAR TE Greg Olsen 6'5" 77 catches, 1104 yards... DET WR Calvin Johnson 6'5" 88 catches, 1214 yards... NE TE Rob Gronkowski 6'6" 72 catches, 1176 yards.... NYJ WR Brandon Marshall 6'5" 109 catches for 1502 yards... Three out of four of these teams entered week 16 as playoff contenders.... Should we attribute all this RZ production simply to having big receivers? -Yes, an No. While they may not be responsible for scoring the RZ TD, having a 6'3" or better TE/WR on the field, creates a dimension that 5'10 corners, and 6-foot safeties struggle to deal with.. Talented Robert Woods at 6'0" (more like 5'11") and 5'9" Marquise Goodwin (when he's not hurt) simply CANNOT give you that. But we've got charles Clay, right? Charles Clay had just 51 catches for a pitiful 508 yards! -That from the Leagues highest paid TE? -Even when Clay was good, he wasn't all that good, posting just 605 receiving yards his best year at MIA! What about primary weapon 6'2" Sammy Watkins? -formidabe? -Definitely. But with 60 grabs, and just over 1000 yards receiving (1,045 in 2015), we're still under that champioship wire for playoff contenders. Buy hey, we've got Tyrod! Riiiiiiiiiight....Ok... Beloved Tyrod, was top 10 in the league for fumbles! (#8) Sure, he ran a little... He ran well... But come on.. Averaging 8 yards per passing attempt? -216 yards avg passing per game? That will NOT bring the playoffs any closer to us... Neither will 242 Completions out of a paltry 380 Passing attempts (2015)... Cousins Completed 619/950.... Blake Bortles had almost as many completions (355) as Tyrod had attempts! This strategy of not throwing the football may lead to outstanding QBR's, and relatively low INT%, -But can we get to the postseason like this? -I seriously doubt it. So why not get #5 some big, tall, effective, size-mismatches to aid his passing game? -Clearly, they work well if used properly. There are Several big WR specimens in this draft that also demonstrate an aptitude for route-learning/running... Let's re-draw the damn playbook, and physically get on-par with some of these playoff-contenders. -Like it or not, SIZE DOES MATTER. GO BILLS!

Dishonest is presenting an argument that the years from 2008-2013 have nothing to do with the current FO staff. Which happens to be what you're doing.
-
Thanks! In fairness, I could have used any number of years from 2008-present to Illustrate how BAD we've become at this process... Kinda dishonest to even call it an argument, really. Anyway, seeing as how we don't typically excel at this particular aspect, what's the harm in isolating one one or more receivers 6'3" or better, and fashioning them into legit offensive weapons?..if it works out, it could positively impact our viability as playoff contenders.
-
Oh yah, we're GREAT at proritizing players... That's why we had smaller, productive receivers like Bob Woods rated higher than guys like Leveon Bell, and Travis Kelce in '13.... And probably why we took the ever-productive Marquise Goodwin over Markus Wheaton in that same draft... By the way how many catches has Marquise made in three years? -Oh, never mind....Because we're great at "targeting" Talent .. Yah, I remember now...
-
LOVE Pharoah Cooper... Kid's a Bona-Fide stud...However... He's like 5'11 or something... Too Small... We need SIZE at the WR position..

Super Bowl LI - What's Your Max $ To See Bills?
#34fan replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
London cost me about 2800, (Not including food, souvenirs, tips, and alcohol) so I'd have no problem Matching that. -As long as it includes airfare and Hotel stay in faraway, exotic Houston. -
Any team with a brain cell to share runs an offense that hides it's QB's weaknesses... It shouldn't always be a demerit. If you look at what Kessler is asked to do at times, you realize he does it very well... Even the stuff he isn't asked, and probably shouldn't do often comes out better than expected... While I can't call myself a "Kessler" guy, I still recognize traits in his game that go a long way in making an effective pro.. That said, It's not like there's alot of great options out there..... IMO,This is a decent QB draft class, not a great of even a very good one.... There's talent... Stlll, you might have to look closer than alot of Draftniks, and talking-heads are looking.
-
I'm curious as to how many USC games you guys actually watched.... While I watched USC primarily for WR's Ju-Ju Smith, Nelson Agholor, (when he was at USC), and (Now SEA DB) George Farmer, Cody Kessler impressed me as a delivery man... I've seen no significant deficiencies in his passing game. -Deep or shallow. His mechanics and footwork are advanced for his level.. Light years ahead of a kid like Wentz, or even Cardale Jones! -His field vision is impeccable, excellent movement in the pocket, good escapability, vocal leader in the huddle...... It took a while for the kid to grow on me, but he has... Kessler is legit... I refuse to magpie some talking head draftnik by saying otherwise. I have ONE big problem with his game... And it's this... Because of his skill level, Kessler takes too may chances with the football... makes some throws that are phenomenal, but still ill-advised... He'll pay a price at the next level.... Could cause an impatient coach to lose faith, and bolster the "I told you so" Naysayers. I fancy him a 4th-5th rounder... Has the tools to be #2 on somebody's roster come September.
-
Honorable mention must go to Cody Kessler... He's actually a very good prospect... My second favorite in this draff.... Some team is gonna get a STEAL with that kid
-
EJ was simply AWFUL that day...I was there too, and saw our defense getting more and more deflated with each of EJ's turnovers, and three-and-outs... We lost that day because of EJ... Jax is just a few peices away from blowing things open in that trash division... If we do outstanding this draft (QB, WR, DE) we have a chance in 2018, But I really don't see us playing in January of 2017.
-
If we go D in Rd 1, it better be for Kevin Dodd, or Shaq Lawson.
-
I like your kid. -Excellent hands... Might get stolen away by the Giants?... Rams?
-
This kid would be an excellent pickup 6'4 205... OWNS the middle and RZ. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCwGkmZGVhM Another gem this draft is bound to overlook.

I like Hue Jackson alot... He's a very sharp offensive mind, and an excellent coach overall... Hue Jackson knows the Browns go NOWHERE without a legit starting QB... He knows it is the single greatest deficiency the Browns have on their roster... I don't claim to know for sure what they'll do at #2. I don't know if it's Hue's pick to make, or, for that mattter, if they'll end up keepng the pick it at all. My sincere belief is that the Browns will make an attempt to grab Cardale Jones, at some point early in this draft. As for Pep Hamilton, I think there's a chance that Luck is not t who or what everyone made him up to be coming out of college... In my opinion, he started the season at less than 100%. -Far less.... The Colts missing the playoffs, while disappointing, can be mitigated in part by the fact that without Luck, they're one of the oldest offenses in the league at skill positions. Lastly, if Greg Roman runs this same offense next year, we won't win 6 games... The formula for beating us has to be harder than: Stop the run, Shut down Sammy, and spy on Tyrod... If it isn't, we're boned, per usual.
-
You've touched on my single greatest worry in drafting a new QB... Greg Roman's offense looked really bad at times last season... And I don't mean "bad" like regular "bad"... I mean "bad" like he had zero clue what the Sam Hill he was doing with the talent we had... Seemed like we called alot of passes on third and short... Very deflating for a young QB when those don't pan out... Our Blocking was also downright horrendous at various intervals in the season... I was actually hoping we'd dump Roman in the OS and pick up Pep Hamilton.... Despite being fired in '15, His offenses won 11 games and made the playoffs in both '13, and '14....

Thanks for the read! I think the kid who wrote this piece is doing his best to sound analyitical, and balanced. It's a well-written, albeit short-sighted assessment of Cardale Jone's abilities... Examining the plays cited by this author only served to cement my belief that Jones is a top QB talent in this draft... What he considers a missed opportunity, I see as an example of Jone's intelligence in "settting-up" the defense... The Bama D has absolutely ZERO idea what he's going to do with that ball.... When he does it, (run or pass) it's executed with such speed and precision, that they literally have no opportunity to stop it... As far as Jone's not being able to "fit the ball" into a space, I would again refer you to both playoff games... For a third-stringer, he posseseed amazing chemistry with those receivers... And was absolutely fearless when it came time to throw downfield.... If you get a chance to watch the game on youtube, I think you'll see what I'm saying... Is there room for growth? -Absolutely... But If Hue Jackson could squeeze 8 wins out of banged-up, worn-out Jason Campbell, I shudder to think of what's possible for him and Cardale... Championships in the making? -I definitely get that impression.
-
I'd ask you guys to check out some of Cardale's work on youtube... Particularly the games against Alabama, and Oregon... I'd be shocked if Hue Jackson didn't pull the trigger on this kid.... -One of the BEST QB prospects in this draft... More talent than Tyrod ever showed in four years at Va Tech... Could be a phenom with the right coaching staff.
-
As a confessed Cardale Jones fan, I'm a little shy in admitting that USC's Cody Kessler was MUCH the best among QB's at the senior bowl... More pro-ready than anyone else I've seen thus far...-Even Cardale. Calling his own number on the goal-line really capped it off for me... Kessler thinks win-first, ask questions later... For his level, that's truly commendable... He's also more athletic than some might suspect... Comfortable under center, solid footwork...Calm, and measured through his progressions... Superior field vision... Kessler has all the throws in his arsenal, and isn't afraid to use them... Me likey. Me likey alot Of course, I'm all-in on Cardale... And young NFL prospects named "Cody" typically make me turn the page... However, "Buffalo Bill" Cody does have a nice ring to it. Perhaps the 5th-6th if he's still aound? -Especially if we don't drill down on Jones.. I certainly wouldn't be against it.
-
Look people, It's Cardale Jones or we're absolute morons.... Here's the grocery list: QB, Big target WR, LB/DE, TE, then everything else.. I'm not a Tyrod Taylor fan, but hey, -he's welcome to stay... I just HATE having a guy out there who thinks up reasons NOT to throw the damn football, (Unless, of course, he's already down by 21 in the fourth... Then it's ok to start overthrowing wideouts by ten yards. ) ..... Just give TT some competition.... If I'm right about C. Jones, he'll be giving Tyrod all he can handle.
