Glad he didn't kill himself... Hope he's in a position to stay around the game in the future...

They're not obligated to pick if their guy isn't there... If he is, pull the trigger... If not, parlay the pick into a couple more... 2 #1's (One in the top 5) is a good start... 2-14 TEN got the ball Rolling with Mariota... 2-14 Indy got it going with Luck... Wash, rinse, dry, -repeat is punishment for the fans.. Let's NOT piece together another 7-9 team in 2018..... -

A pair of first round picks next year (one relatively high) gets the ball rolling in a big way... Especially if your FQB or FDT is there... Filling those two spots early is a desirable situation for any HC/GM combo. -Especially a new one... If your guys aren't there, a trade-down scenario helps the team amass picks... The "tank" will hurt for one season, and then it will be over... Sure it's a risk... But the most foolish risk, is never taking one at all.. I think we'd be okay. -

I'm at the point where I see tremendous value in a 2-win season... I must insist that all these people proclaiming "Professional athletes would NEVER do that". -don't know many pro athletes... You'd be SHOCKED at what they're capable of Tanking represents a chance to get a new OC and DC primo-talent they can MOLD.... I think Beane is a grownup, and sees the possibilities... If him and his new staff are going to tank, then NOW is the time. You Betcha.. -

He might want a trade after another 7-win flameout... depends how it goes down... -
Things didn't go that far... But I've got a Steeler fan story that did... Some of them seriously need to be crated during games.

You guys made great points, but I can't help but feel that 2-14 (plus the 1st round picks we already have.) would put us in a position to re-up on EVERYTHING.... It's unique opportunity that may not come again anytime soon. I can honestly say that If we were to pull a legit tank job. I could handle it MUCH better than I could another 7-9 season... Tanks for all your comments, fellas.. Tanks a lot. -
I was exposed to a bit of Packer-fan barbarism back in '14 when they played us at the Ralph... They were kinda disappointed, and stuff got ugly.

Weak AFC South? You have some good points Dr. Zoidberg, but HOU went 12-4 with a playoff berth in 2012, the year the Colts drafted Luck!... HOU was 10-6 the year before! That team DID NOT suck.. By contrast the Colts went 2-14 in 2011, with thoughts of securing a Franchise QB in the '12 draft. -Which they DID... Oddly enough, TEN scored Mariota 3rd overall after a SOLID tank performance in 2014! -Now look at them! -That's a SCARY team. Even HOU pulled the ole 'tank-o-la' in '13, to score J.D. Clowney first overall in 14! -Texans... Tennesee... That's three terrible teams that took turns tanking. -And it worked every time! -
Sorry Ice, but apart from you, the cheese-heads are a B R U T A L fanbase... -Not to be confused, of course with the SAVAGES in black and gold... Steel-town fans are rabid animals.... I'd prefer to be surrounded by Turquoise bandits in Miami, and that's saying something!

I'm not so sure we've replaced the production of Zach and Robert with the new hires... If Sammy gets a major foot-ache week 2? Is it all on Zay as a rookie? Admit it, if #14 goes out for an extended amount of time, we'd be looking at having to draft a new #1 WR... A strategic reduction in output could facilitate that endeavor... -

2-6... Get your tank-on early and you don't need to worry about draft position... What would be the odds of us winning the next 8 games? The Pats will likely be at the top of the division, and the fish COULD win 11 games this year.... I truly love this team. However, we need a clear way forward. Didn't the colts have back-to back 11-win seasons after drafting Luck?... So what, they're in a slump right now... That's not 17 years!... -I'll take that deal any day of the week. Still relatively high picks... You could parlay one of your 3 1st rounders into as many as you can negotiate. We already have 2... I wouldn't mind a third... Please explain the problem you'd have with that, Dave. -

And this kid Da'ron Payne out of Alabama... 2018 First round DT potential for sure... I'd want a shot at him before KW got TOO old... If we go 8-8, there's no way.. -

The next two drafts could feature some pretty good unknown QB's.. Kids like Brett Rypien, and Will Grier..... I'm hopeful that we'll be able to score some talent at that position in '18-'19. -

With the other pieces they've assembled on that Defense? (Peppers etc) -Absolutely! Still, as another poster pointed out, you can find elite players in the 7th... They wanted Garett, but they could have parlayed their position into other desirable picks... We did that YEARS ago... 3-13 could offer a way forward... What's one more year after the last 17? -

One year could be enough... I don't think Darnold would say that, but even if he did, so what? -Trade the pick to someone else for multiple chances to score in later rounds... To me, it's the first round opportunity that's valuabe... Not the kid who thinks he's hot s#!%.... The pick could get us a better DE than Lawson... Maybe a stud ILB or TE... If a tank puts us in that position, isn't it worth it? -

It can't be both, can it? Elite veteran players buoy a teams production at key positions... This thread is about the means of acquiring those elite veterans... IMO, nabbing them as rookies is desirable. Regardless of what round you score talent in, If you amass 1st round picks your odds of striking it rich should improve... To that end, mailing in a season could help the big picture. -

I used them because they're a reliable playoff presence year after year... If we're stealing blueprints to playoff teams, I'd prefer it be someone that owns a proven formula.. Don't say Belly is great. -We know... Same goes for TB.... Lets look at what they do right apart from acquiring those two, and copy it. -
-Did somebody say BRAD SMITH??? -YAY!

The good teams seem to retain a veteran talent base at key positions, so they're filling holes, without starting over... NE can handle adding Chris Hogan because their skill base of Edelman and Amendola is in tact.. They can add guys like David Harris without breaking a sweat because of Hightower and Ninkovich. They're never flat broke at any one position. -

Hey, how about a pee-break for the sad-sack Browns? For YEARS their division offered non stop run-ins with playoff, and/or superbowl caliber teams... They've been through hell and it hasn't always been from a lack of trying... I think this season will feature a more intense, dedicated Browns team.... -
If Yates starts looking good early, they may pull the plug on Cardale quickly... If only to give him a shot with another team... I'm dreading that day, but deep down I know it's a possibility.
