  1. To me, I have to look at the entire field. And to be honest, I think it depends on the attitude in the front office.

I think we can all agree that Buddy Nix is looking down the barrels of the firing squad. To me, the difference is how he reacts to it.

If he looks on into danger with steely resolve, I think he waits until round 2. He takes a blue chip player, and make no doubt, there WILL be a blue chip player in a position of need available at #8, whether it be Dee Milliner, Jarvis Jones, Alec Ogletree or Cordelle Patterson. If, by some stroke of luck, Geno Smith falls into his lap Buddy will take him.

If Buddy is panicking, I can see him picking whoever is best at the #8 pick. If so, we can make do with our other picks and pick up a bunch of UDFA.

EDIT: I still like Tyler Wilson, and he seems that he will almost certainly there at #41, maybe even in the third round.

It's amazing how some fans just assume that if we take a non QB at #8 that the player we would take will automatically become a "Blue Chip Player" whereas if we take a QB somehow that player is almost certainly doomed to fail...

We took Dareus at #3 - Has he become a "Blue Chip Player"???? NO

  2. I don't think that many of us would object to the Bills trading down abit, if they could still get "their guy" QB... But since that is not easy to do, and since this FO has not done this in the past I would not get my hopes up that they will all of a sudden change their MO...

So if they take "their guy" QB at #8 fine... and get a top WR at #41... Happyness should follow...

If they are able to trade down abit though, they might be able to add a quality young TE with an extra 2nd rd pick they might get...

either of these outcomes would constitute a successful draft...

  3. I really don't have a favorite... But I believe the Bills MUST draft a QB at #8... Play him from Day 1 like Tannehill... If he totally sucks we'll at least have another high draft position next year and could even draft his replacement if necessary... He might make a decent backup at least... On the other hand if OBD picks the right QB we'll have our QB for the next decade.... Again I have no favorite QB yet... Smith, Barkley, and Wilson seem to be the 3 most highly regarded so far but only the Bills know how they rank these QBs...

  4. Seems like this may be borderline blasphemy on this board but I'm ok without taking a qb in this draft or maybe a 4th or 5th on Manuel or Bray if Whaley/Marrone/Hackett think their franchise qb is in next years draft between Bridgewater, Murray, McCarron and Boyd

As I recall, Barkley was on almost everyones wishlist last year - now he's a pariah?? Any of the guys you just mentioned could easily have the same thing happen to them next year... How long are you gonna wait to draft a QB???

  5. Have we mentioned how horrendous it is that we drafted Marcell Dareus instead of aj green, Patrick Peterson, Julio jones, Aldon smith AND JJ Watt. Or troup exactly one pick ahead of Gronk? Still don't understand how nix still has a job.

In his three drafts as Bills GM Nix took only one QB. (7th rd - his 1st year) He failed to go after Kaepernick, Wilson, Dalton, Ponder or Cousins... You'll never succeed if you don't try...

  6. Ok, that one takes the cake.

In addition to the punter debacle, Jacksonville also selected Blaine Gabbert who looks like a bust too...

I would hope though that the Bills draft at least 1 QB if not 2 this offseason...

And say what you will about Flutie - He made the games entertaining, Not like what we've seen the last 12 years...

No. People are arguing in this and other threads that he should have known. That it was obvious how good Russell Wilson was and Nix should have seen that he had all this talent and recognized it from the start. And that, to me, is nonsense. Nix was just like all of the other GMs in the league, including John Schneider, who along with Pete Carroll, didn't at all know that height was not going to affect Wilson. If Schneider and Carroll knew, they wouldn't have signed Flynn, and they would have drafted Russell Wilson in the first round where virtually no one had him ranked. Nix screwed up because he didn't take a flyer on the guy, and instead took a flyer on a smallish WR instead, not because he should have known.

My problem with NIX is that he never took a flyer on ANY of these QB's... You have to be in it to win it....

  7. It's always something...

-He's got a winning record but 19-39 against winning teams

-hasn't been to the playoffs in 5 of the last 6 years

    And yet...

    -he's 6-3 in the playoffs

-been to 2 NFC Championships and a SB

-went to the Super Bowl with Rex freakin Grossman

As Bills fans we always find something...

Lovie or McCoy work for me...

  8. I would love for us to draft Tyler Wilson. I just would like to get him with something other than the 8th pick of the first round.

If you want a particular QB in this draft I think you need to use the #8 pick to get him... For all we know, you could see 3 or more QB's taken in the top 10 picks... And Nix and crew are not known for trading up or down in previous drafts... And whoever the new HC ends up being, I would think he should have some input here too... After all, the new Coach is likely to sink or swim based on the play of the QB we draft...

My personal choices for Coach would be:

    1 Chip Kelly

    2 Jon Gruden

3 Lovie Smith tied with McCarthy

It's too bad we'll never know what QB each of the HC candidates would prefer If he were made HC...

  9. He was basically the Offensive Coordinator on-the-field for Ohio having the power to change plays, and he did it a lot...He's know to have very high Football intelligence...I like the kid a lot...He makes some amazing throws at times, even when he uses questionable mechanics...I'd love to see what he can do in a year or two with NFL Coaching...He's got some major upside... B-)

Just like Bills Fans? Myself included of course... ;)

You are talking a team that went 4-8 (3-5 MAC) Real football program played teams like UB, Boise St, But they did play Ohio State (L56-10)....

I want a REAL QB from a REAL football program....

  10. Zac Dysert would look great ni a Bills uniform...

Physically, he sounds impressive but can he read defenses? Miami of Ohio is just not same as your big time college football programs... Also the newer QB's in the NFL are more mobile.... I want the Bills drafting the best QB available with their 1st round pick...

  11. Bring in Polian and Dungy.

I've said it before and will say it again... Polian may be the best gm we can get and I trust him a hell of a lot more than Nix to pick our next coach and QB of the future... We have no idea if Whaley will be any good or not... We know Polian can do it - he's done it before...

And if Polian got his name on the Wall - Ralph and polian must have settled their differences by now... BRING BACK BILL POLIAN....

  12. If Whaley takes over he will hire somone from Pitt or that has connections to Pitt.

Bruce Arians, Ray Horton, are possibilitys

Why would Arians leave Indy and coaching Andrew Luck for the next decade to come here? I wouldn't... And why this love affair for someone with no experience as a GM???

I would trust a Bill Polian even at his age to choose our next QB a hell of a lot more than Whaley...

    Nix and Chan must go...

  13. We need Bill Polian and any coach he chooses. The rest will fall into place.

Actually, Polian might be the only quality GM who might come if Ralph fires Nix and Chan... I'd trust Polian to hire a decent head coach and draft the best young QB out there...No way do I want Nix making that decision...

  14. I choose to remain hopeful. This may in fact be a good thing. A statement earlier this year was made that there was a Buffalo group waiting in the wings for Ralph's passing and that they had some kinda plan to buy the Bills and keep them here AND that they had some kinda plan that involved building a new stadium here. I f we are gonna "invest 200+ million in state money it only makes sense to invest it in a modern stadium (presumably open air) either on the waterfront or possibly Niagara Falls...
