I also have to add that in 2014, Whaley engineered that wonderful trade for Sammy Watkins instead of staying put or even trading down to acquire another pick and selecting Derek Carr. So the Raiders got Khalil Mack AND Derek Carr from that draft while the Bills ended up with Watkins and gave up a second #1 for the privilege of doing so... Maybe that is why the Raiders made the playoffs this year and the Bills are home watching on TV... So Whaley should not be held responsible???

Before you "DEVELOP" a rookie QB you need to "DRAFT" one or more ... and then it shouldn't take another 3-4 yrs to conclude the one you drafted sucks!
It would help to have a GM and a scouting dept that can identify which prospects stand the best chance of success... There is no evidence to conclude that at present the Bills have either one of those things...

I'm certainly not a fan of Brandon's but how exactly is he to blame for the futility we have experienced? Whaley drafts the players and Rex has alot of input as well, I'm sure. Brandon's role was predominantly in the business end of things (ticket sales, various promotions etc..) with the exception of Ralph's last couple of years when he and/or his family appointed Brandon as caretaker... That ended when the Pegula's took over the team... Before Whaley took over, Buddy Nix was running things on the football side... Buddy/Whaley drafted EJ for instance... Whaley traded up to get Watkins... If you want to assess blame start there... I'm all in favor of Pegula hiring a true football czar...

I am asking you WHO that elite QB is? I don't see him.
The trouble is neither does Whaley! He could have drafted Prescott as late as the third round for example. You have to be able to recognize a good young QB when you see one. I am not going to list other QB's the Bills have passed on.
-
Coughlin would be an upgrade if he wanted the job... But first Whaley's future here has to be decided... I am all for cleaning house... Then a real GM needs to be hired... New GM gets to pick his own guy for coach...

I seem to recall a deep pass to Watkins along the sidelines that was woefully underthrown...

I think the "real question" here is - Is the FO capable of selecting a QB when and if they see one? They passed on an opportunity to draft Paxton Lynch. Now I have no idea if he will pan out or not. I am in no way qualified to judge. But John Elway seems to think he has a future. He moved up to draft the kid. What did he see that Whaley and crew didn't? It isn't often that a kid like that falls to you and yet the Bills FO passed - to draft a DL with a bum shoulder who will miss at least half the season if not more... Did Whaley draft the guy that Rex wanted over what might have been better for the long term future of the team?

Doing your "due diligence" about the availability of QB's tells you little to nothing about any particular QB... If Elway thought the Bills were interested in Lynch (as was reported that the Bills wined and dined Lynch) he would naturally have been interested in Tyrod's availability... And about finding out whatever he might about how deep our interest in Lynch was as well...

With the NFL landscape littered with overdrafted 1st round busts.
And as you are most likely aware of, the majority of those 1st round flops were NOT QB's... Alot of 1st round picks bust... But nothing ventured - nothing gained... How many more years are we going to go missing the playoffs? Is a DE more important than a possible franchise QB?? Lawson could bust just as easily as Lynch...
-
Here's the question... John Elway and his scouting dept felt good enough about Lynch to trade up for him... We could have drafted Lynch ourselves and still gotten Ragland and all the rest of our picks thereafter presumably... Are we gonna be watching this kid for the next 10yrs while we miss the playoffs again and again? Most franchise QB's are taken in the 1st round... Aside from Manuel when have the Bills ever TRIED drafting a QB early? I don't know if Tyrod is the answer or not... Time will tell....
-
I say we go ahead and take him at 19 if he's there. He can sit behind Tyrod next year and we'll go from there. Need to keep on trucking and acquiring QBs constantly IMO.
I am obviously no kind of QB talent evaluator but if the Bills really think he can be a true franchise guy and he falls to 19 why not draft him there? If they really like these defensive studs who are still on the board then could they not trade both this years #2 and next years #2 to move back into the 1st round - say around #26-27? This would seem to fit the NFL draft trade chart... That way Whaley still gets a top name defensive player to help immediately as well as QB insurance for the present and future too... Roman gets to tutor the rookie for a year...

Funny how this situation is mirroring the situation in Washington... Keeping in mind that the Bills can always tag TT next season if necessary...

Gilbride spoke to a lot of the reasons people still think the verdict isn't out on Taylor. Taylor really didn't show all season that he could read a coverage and throw to a man who was was covered but about to become open after his break. That is what all the best ones do. It's also the hardest thing to do as a QB. Only 3-5 guys can do it consistently and about 5 more can do it inconsistently. Then you take in the other comments and it's the balance of what Taylor did do well. We already know most QB's in the NFL don't pass the test Gilbride was holding Taylor to. So now you have 20 or so QB's that will be a blend of arm/accuracy, deep passes, 1 or 2 read passes, improvisation, limiting turnovers, and running. In these areas Taylor probably had the best seasons in the NFL. In fact I would argue we didn't lose a game all year with because Taylor was the starter. He had better games than others, but he never was so bad he was the predominant reason for the loss. Tyrod might not ever be a true franchise QB but if he's the next best thing to one he's might just be as valuable.
For his "rookie" season Taylor did well... And he is obviously the starter going into next season... I still think you need to draft a QB in Rd 2-3 to try to develop and at least back Taylor up... Cut ties with EJ now....

There is an old coaches saying in the NFL that "You are what your record says you are..."

Also, if I am not mistaken it was Kiko's second ACL tear to the same leg... I hope he makes it all the way back but you never know...

Has anybody actually wondered whether Rivers would want to play here?
-
Fans should be excited. That about covers it.

Our tackles were fine, out guard was no worse than average, we have addressed one guard spot, now have 3-4 on the roster competing for te other... There is still a draft to come which will
Most certainly add competition to that spot.... What's your problem?
Our Tackles were not fine... Henderson played out of desperation, there was no one else better... Even Glenn didn't play as well as the year before... and don't get me started on the guards... Hopefully, Incognito keeps his nose clean and still remembers how to play this game (without his notorius cheap shot penalties...) The ground and pound is gonna require solid OL play.. they clearly need more help at these positions...

I think we are going pass rusher. De. or OLB . Draft is loaded with pass rushers. I think with the McCoy pick-up we are going free-agent QB and letting Hughes go. Too much money, when we can pick-up a young stud.
I gotta agree... I think the Bills sign Gresham in FA... Maybe Harris to Replace Kiko.... a couple OL (maybe a C and move Wood to G)
-
Keep the heart of this team together (Resign Hughes), make it even stronger if possible... find a competent QB or two... bring in some more OL who can block and draft another RB... Can the Bills afford a better TE?
-
Frankly, I am not sure that I would want either EJ or Derek Carr as my QB... EJ will get a chance to compete with all the other QB's on the roster at Training Camp... Let The Best QB Win!
-
Wait until a top prospect is ready to enter the draft. Lose every game that year.
THE "Connor McDavid" - "Suck for Luck" approach....
Bills stuck with mediocre coordinators once again

IF Mahomes is as good as you think (I honestly have no idea) then just draft him at #10 and don't screw around... The same applies to any of the QB names out there... Move up - if you really like a guy... Is AJ McCarron available and is he worth acquiring? If we let TT go and Denver signs him is Simean available cheap as a bridge QB? What's Washington gonna do with their QB position? TT is NOT the ONLY option...
