1. Anyone else think it's time for a change in the pass interference department?  I'm mean really, the reward for that infraction is so ridiculous.  It allows a ref to make a split second judgement call and can give teams a 40 or 50 yard penalty and ball on the 1 yd line?!?  You can spear a guy in the head and kill him and it's only a 15 yd penalty for unnecessary roughness.  I think PI should be like college and an automatic 15 yd penalty.  For a twist you can make it like the NBA and have a "flagrant foul" PI penalty for those times when a guy obviously tackles a dude before the ball is there to prevent a TD.  For that one you can give the ball at the spot of the foul but when two guys are going for the ball and both looking at the ball, it should only be 15 yds if at all.

    The problem with a 40-50 yard penalty, ball at the one, is that the refs have virtually given the "O" a sure 7 points. The games, especially championships, should be determined by the players, not the refs.

    That being said, if you made PI a 15yd penalty, here's what the "D" would do. Any time you're beat, do the PI so as not to give up 7. It would be the new strategy

  2. Seriously, he did a good job with the defense at Tennessee. He appeared to be organized, and had a great interview. Hiring him was the right thing for TD to do, even though he was a bad coach.

    How for example was TD to know just how bad the Gilbride Offense would be? How was TD to know that GW would become flustered and not have a clue inside the 30 yard line? Also, who knows what was going on in GW's personal life at the time?

    GW seemed like he would be a great coach coming into Buffalo, therefore let's absolve TD of all blame, OK?

    I'm not sure TD gave GW a fair shake here. The first year TD gutted the roster and gave GW nothing to work with. The second year GW takes it to 8-8. The 3rd year GW again gets nothing to improve the team as we make no FA signing and draft Willis.

    And if you think GW doesn't have it, well Joe Gibbs does. Top "D" and heir apparent to Joe G. End of argument

  3. I don't know. I'd like to think there was no intent to injure. When Van Oelhofen grabs his leg and pulls it tight to his body and then rolls over it, well you got to know that is going to injure his knee. Still, after the play, Van Oelhofen appears to be upset he injured him too. What is bad is Palmer does have a messed up knee now. Comparable to Willis?

  4. Bruce Smith was pretty heavy when he came into the league- over 300 pounds.  Bruce at his best was around 265.  He certainly learned conditioning as he got older.  I recall reading an SI article on Bruce.  He broke many stairmasters from riding them too hard and would sniff peanuts offered to him on flights but never eat them.  Bruce learned to become very disclipined

    Bruce's game was NOT turned around by Marv. Believe it or not it was Hank Bullough who put "the sails in his wind". :D Seriously it was HB who rode him about his conditioning, and Bruce had his break out year in 1986 with 15 sacks under Hank, or at least as long as HB lasted that season

  5. Sorry, junior. But it is very possible to treasure, respect, revere, admire, cherish, honor, think extremely highly of, and absolutely love a guy who is 80 or 87 years old... and still not want him making major decisions or working 15 hours a day, or designing game plans or deciding on the intricacies of drafting  or signing player A or player Y on your favorite football team.

    If you're telling me that you trust Ralph Wilson to make good decisions on drafting and free agents and starting positions after watching him talk on that podium three times in the last few days, I don't trust you to make a good decision or post any more than I do Ralph or Marv.

    8 years or so ago Marv was run out of town because the belief was the game had passed him by. Now after out of the game for that time, 8 years older, he's looked at as some messiah to raise the dead. He was in his early 60's when he was out-coached in 4 SB's. I think we have been set back at least 3 more years

  6. I feel like saying I won't re-new, but I probably will. I'm in the corner at the scoreboard end. I'm thinking of moving to the corner at the tunnel end because there always seems to be more action there at that end. Every game, every 1st/2nd half kick-off is to that end where play starts. Only once this year did a kick-off come to my end. Not sure why on that one occasion. Trouble is I like my seats, and the season ticket holders around me. It's the single game people that can be out there. I saw more than a few instances this year that made me think "why do I come to this?". Still, I could walk away from my seats for a year or 3 and come back and get somethin pretty close to these

  7. Scoring from other than the offense. Without McGee's pick, I believe Cinci would have gone down field to at least tie it and force OT. But an "extra" 14 points won it for us.

    Think about it, that could be one of the major reasons our record could have been a few wins better this year. Last year we got 10TD's, 70 points from the "D" and special teams. Now we had to wait until game 15 and what do you know, we won a game we shouldn't have. that "extra" 70 points could have made a difference this year

  8. You make him sound like the second coming of Bruce Smith. Maybe I shouldn't have questioned his effort, but he's really only had a few big time games this season. Stats be damned. Do you think Schobel strikes fear into the opposition? He's a concern yes, but please don't make him out to be an all-pro here. He's not even on the same level as Taylor.

    Really more of a Phil Hansen type. Solid, all-around player. But not a star

  9. Willis was good last year. But this year he reminds me of Antoine Smith. He doesn't seem to make anything happen on his own. He shows limited power and no elusiveness. If the line doesn't bust a hole, he gets nothing. Even when they do, the first guy to Willis ends the play. He doesn't show the ability to keep it going himself

  10. Nope as Tom Bradys  :unsure:

    535889

    I agree. Regardless of what TD thinks about him, his salary forces him to leave. So at the end of your career, go with a winner even if you loose some cash. It's worth it and he has already made a ton of $$$. Bill B respects his game too.

    Hey, here's a thought. Watching SD-Colts right now. Go to Indy and team up with your old bud Marvin H and let Manning throw all day to you. After all Reggie Wayne is gone next year and that creates a WR opening at Indy

  11. I think he'll have some minor back pains, in his way to the locker room to be examined he ask the driver of the injury car to hand him the wheels and then he crashes it entering the tunnel, leading to a serious foot injury.

    518777

    What about when he crashed his REAL wheels on the way to RWS on gameday a few years back. Then sat out the game cause he was upset. What, his spinner hubcaps wouldn't turn any more?

  12. Now, Mike's future (or lack thereof)

    If you are the Bills, you have 3 options...

    * hold onto him

    * outright cut him

    * offer him a massive pay cut to stay.

    I see it coming down to the latter 2

    513985

    It actually comes down to the second option. The Bills won't hold onto him because of his salary, and there is no reason for MW to take a pay cut. So they'll release him in the end. Why take a cut to say $1.5m? Some club will believe they can get him to achieve, and offer him like $5-6 million just to sign plus salary. So now he pockets a windfall right up front
