The Sabres have a roster that any coach would love to have, including a solid goalie and a great goalie prospect. I doubt there was a lack of interest. I think Ruff was the guy for weeks. There wasn't going to be any other interviews.

Anyone remember the calls to fire Granato when Ruff was fired by NJ? Seemed like a great idea then, huh?

Its definitely a top 28 roster.

People will say this a reach for the past. Disagree. Lindy is a excellent coach in this league.

I don't think its a reach for the past.  I think its a sign that no one else with any experience was interested in the job.

I've had a long standing theory that Bills (and Sabres) ownership is more fragile than it appears.  It does not surprise me to see this announcement.

Terry is in his early 70s, Kim's status as owner is unknown, and none of the five kids are easy to spot heir apparent to running the menagerie of companies he has in his portfolio.

What you really don't want to see is Terry pass unexpectedly, and the ownership is transacted by the family to the highest bidder.  That's a nightmare Bon Jovi scenario.  The likelihood of the Bills being owned by someone like Terry with a deep appreciation of Buffalo and western New York is slim in that scenario.

Jesse is primed to take a large role once her tennis career is done.  Its something she has discussed publicly.

I am surprised Houston hasn't gotten a look. Big market and they would have an instant rivalry with the Stars.

I am biased because I live in Houston but it makes no sense to me that the NHL hasn't pursued a team in Houston.  Its the 4th biggest city in the country, we have an arena with ice (Toyota Center), and Houston had an IHL/AHL team that routinely led the league in attendance.  There are a lot of Canadian transplants here as well as a massive contingent of Americans who have relocated from traditional hockey markets.  Houston has the second most Fortune 500 companies of any city in the country and can easily sell luxury suites/boxes.

From what I have read, Bettman doesn't want a hockey team sharing space with the basketball team even though that is a situation in so many other cities.  Its such an obvious and natural move and its not going to happen.

I don't know if the arena the Houston Rockets use can be used for hockey. I do know KC has an arena that can be used for hockey. Years ago, the Islanders played a preseason game there. That is another market that the NHL could look at.

    It can.

THE AUTOMOBILE, far & away had the biggest impact of all time!

It was a global phenominon (sorry for the spelling) that's still going on today. It impacted on our society on many, many, fronts.

It impacted on the steel industry, the oil industry, commercial farming as well as private farming, road construction, the hotel

and motel busineses, tourism, even the fast food business. The list goes on and on, longer than I have the time to post on this

topic.  That machine provided millions and millions of jobs for a lot of people.

It impacted where people live and how they live.  It shaped American culture.  Outside of the old cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, and to a lesser extent Philadelphia/DC every American city was built for cars.   Urban sprawl and suburban mediocrity are simply not possible without the automobile.  The number one priority of city designers is "where are all the cars going to park?"

This has been somewhat of a theme during locker clean out interviews:

Every player has mentioned something about accountability being an issue and/or really wanting the next coach to hold them accountable. Most have also mentioned that they didn’t really have a structure in place to fall back on and that’s something they need. (Duh! I think even casual fans saw that… lol).

They’re screaming for a good veteran coach.

Brind’amor would be so perfect for this team. I wish it was a more realistic possibility.

I would think Lindy, Berube and Gallant have to be 3 of the top candidates. Maybe Sullivan if he gets fired by Pittsburgh. Maybe Boudreau or Julien too?

It’s going to be really interesting to see who the first couple/few interviews are with! I’m just glad we can actually discuss hiring one of these veteran coaches and know it’s a genuine possibility.

For as much as the players "loved" Donny the cleanout interviews have been pretty damning.  "Lack of accountability", "guys should have lost playing time", "lack of structure" is coming from everyone.  I wonder how much of it is directed at Skinner given two of his linemates are harping on this theme.

The players say they want accountability but we will see how much they like it.

  8. I would argue that the invention of inventions was pretty impactful.  The invention came about in 1793 just in time for Eli Whitney to popularize inventions with the cotton gin.  Before Eli Whitney there was no true innovation, only recycling of and incremental improvement on existing ideas. The invention would stagnate however, mostly due to the spectacular failure that was the steamboat which sucked most of the joy out of inventing.  And for a long time nothing really happened.  That is, until, the invention of technology in 1903.  Technology was invented by the Swedes and was primarily focused on the design of modular furniture until a string a futuristic movies including Back to the Future, The Terminator, and ET the Extra Terrestrial, captivated imaginations worldwide.  For the first time in human history people began wondering "can technology be used to improve my everyday life?"...and the rest is history.

Without the invention of inventions, most of this would not have been possible.

I wouldnt say he lost. He was in a win-win situation and leveraged it as much as he could.

HC contracts are written with clauses that allow them to leave and still get paid IF there is a change in ownership.

Marrone knew of this clause and seized the opportunity to make a power play. "I'm going to walk and make you pay out my contract while having to find a new HC unless you put me in charge of the entire FO". Pegula said no thanks, Marrone walked while still getting paid. And then got another gig so he was DOUBLE DIPPING that NFL HC salary. Probably made himself an extra $10-15M just for quitting a job.

And now hes an offensive quality assistant.

Here you go @Alphadawg7. Today's Locked on Bills episode was entirely about Shakir.

He notes that out of every WR who ever measured 29" or shorter arms, the only ones to have meaningful careers were Hunter Renfrow, Isaiah McKenzie, and Braxton Berrios. Shakir would be the first to ever make it as even a 50% outside WR with that arm length.

Now thats a fun group.  I'd totally go to Dave & Busters with those guys.

Do we have anymore updates on Bills wishing him well?

I know Dawkins has.  Former Bill, Cole Beasley has.

I do see Hamlin as, maybe, the only current Bill commenting on Diggs farewell IG post (in contrast to many of them commenting on Gabe’s)

    Anyone else..

Thought maybe we’d see something from Gabe now being AFC South rivals.

    Seems like crickets.

    The silence speaks volumes.

  12. Freddy was the last one that bothered me.  He wanted to remain a Buffalo Bill and would have accepted any role.  He outperformed his contract every year and outperformed all the competition that was brought in and gifted a starting role.  If anyone deserved another year and an opportunity to go out on his own terms it was Fred Jackson.  It was a pleasure watching him perform.

Thats it, I'm taking 15 minutes to watch Freddy highlights.

    Nate Geary's take.  Agree/disagree?

Nate Geary needs to stick to the vibes report.  While he is covering the AFC South who is monitoring the vibes? The vibes may be off right now and we would have no way of knowing.  Can't get enough of a grown man talking about vibes, by the way.  X, formerly known as Twitter, is a blessing for those of us who are all about the vibes.  Its a vibe.
