We had two great chances to end it in OT. Kulich got stuffed on a breakaway and we had a 2 on 1 that ended with a bouncing puck or some kind of unforced giveaway. I thought Cbus was lucky to take it to OT based on their first and 3rd goals. They got some nice bounces. Sabres played hard but they need to win those games.
Our OT woes continue.
I continue to take it day to day with this team in terms of expectations. I can say they are more entertaining and less maddening to watch than they were last year. Seeing growth from Benson, Kulich, and Doan are all reasons for optimism. I want to see more of Ellis in net.

It probably sounds weird but I don’t really hate the Chiefs. I used to hate the Dolphins. I hated the Pats even though we never competed with them. The Chiefs are annoying and the ref thing (specifically spots) is super annoying. With that being said, I don’t hate Mahomes (at all really), I don’t hate Reid, I like Spags, I don’t hate Chris Jones, Kelce annoys me, Nick Wright is super annoying but in general I don’t hate them. I respect them. We just need to get by them in the playoffs.
This sums up my feelings on the Chiefs. I dislike Rashee Rice all the time in the same way I disliked Tyreek because they are garbage people. Not sure I care enough to hate.
However, during the games against them I do hate everyone of those motherf@#$ers.

Wasn't the missed time at Kentucky due to like an infection even?
Yes, I believe he got an injection in the shoulder to limit pain and it got infected causing him to miss a lot of time. Not the type of thing you worry about moving forward. Knee sprain does not appear to fit in the chronic category.
With his frame, injury is a natural concern but its football.

Hoecht has been playing a bunch of DT today and is country strong.
Losing Ed would hurt bad, but Hoecht may have come back just in time to mitigate some of the pain.
Hoecht is country strong in the East German Olympic Team sense.

Another nice win! They played a solid 3 periods again tonight. Though they did make me a bit nervous in the 3rd. When the leafs got within a goal then started pressing hard to tie it, I was just waiting for the Sabres to give up a goal. It looked like a familiar late game collapse was coming. But it never did! lol
Lyon made a huge save on Macelli then Power made a great play to get Tuch the empty netter and seal the win. I didn’t think it was Lyon’s best overall game, but he came up big when it mattered.
Lyon seems like a great veteran addition to the locker room. I love his media interviews. He seems like an experienced, calming presence for the team. And with him playing such a big role right now I think his words carry more weight (vs. if he was just a backup).
Tage seems to be maturing as a leader. I’ve liked what he’s had to say so far this season. Hopefully he’s starting to get going now. We just need Dahlin to join the party. lol. He’s Buffalo’s best player but he’s been anything but that to start this season. Imagine once he gets going too, and they add in Kesselring, and if Samuelsson keeps playing like he has… The blue line could be a true strength this season.
I’ve actually been enjoying watching their games. I sure hope that continues. I so badly want to have a reason to be a die hard Sabres fan again. I miss it. But my guard is still up for sure, and I know how little patience I have for them. It’s going to take more for me to fully invest again. They were in a playoff position at Thanksgiving last season after all (which usually predicts a playoff berth).
The goalie was very much in net when Tuch netted his shorty. I wish we could pot one of those length of the ice empty netters that seem so common against us.

On one hand, Rapp has been terrible. But on the other hand, if we had a better option one would think he would be out there. My position is that I am cautiously terrified for our secondary.

Too late for your trip, but I got a great cheese steak from a street vendor. It was 30 years ago, so I don’t know if that is still possible.
Would you recommend it?

On seeing highlights, Detroit's second goal where they tied at the end of the 2nd period... the scorer had set up camp in front of the crease. Power just stood like 3 feet to the left of the goalie. Just stood there and watched it happen. So aggravating. There's nothing going through his head saying 'Do something about this'?!?!!!
The Detroit goal scorer was surrounded by Blue jerseys that were all close enough to make a play but were watching the puck and not anticipating. It strange how often the Sabres are in a solid position defensively but fail to impact the play. Its less strange that they find themselves wildly out of position and giving up breakaways but Ellis looked calm as could be when called upon. Team defense is definitely improving in year 2 of Lindy's term but there are things to clean up.

I have said this before and I will continue to say it. Joe is the best analyst out there and if you’re listening to anybody else you’re wasting your time. Especially Dan Mitchell, who sucks.
Its true, JoeMa is the best in the LockedDown biz. I have completely stopped listening to my wife and kids in favor of JoeMa.

Give him more WR screens out of trips. He and Shakir produced in that formation last year.

Pardon me, I drew an inference from Google. People draw inferences all day at TSW.
Google said professional athletes may have a spike in performance then usually return to their average:
It is more likely than not, Lyon's recent play will regress to his usual average.
You don't hear of goalies having a sudden performance improvement--and then sustaining it for the long run. It's not like a QB or CB whose performance improves when they suddenly get it and understand the system.
Lyon:
- Career GAA; 2.99
- 2025 GAA: 2.43
He'll be back in the 2.99 range any day now.
You did not draw an inference. You claimed AI predicted a decline in a player's performance when Google had only presented you the definition of reversion to the mean. Reversion to the mean does not happen over a defined timeline. Taylor Hall won an MVP before settling back into what he always was. Reversion to the mean is not some physical law of the universe.
Here's my "inference": Google AI just predicted that your prediction is incorrect:
QuoteGoogle AI
The gambler's fallacy is the mistaken belief that independent past events influence future ones, causing a person to think that an outcome is more likely to happen after it has occurred less frequently than expected, or vice versa.

Yep. Even Google AI thinks so.
Google AI just presented the definition of the term "regression to the mean". AI did not predict anything about Lyon's play.

That was a fun win. I actually enjoyed watching the game and didn’t change the channel all night (for once)! lol
More games like that, please.
It looked like it was going to go off the rails early between the slow start in period 1 and the stupid challenge by Ruff on the Senators second goal. The fans really woke up after Ruff's challenge was unsuccessful and channeled all their frustrations at the officials. Had Ottawa scored on the next 4 minutes of power play and the short 2 man advantage there might have been a riot.
I know everyone in the world thought another heart breaking collapse was coming when Ottawa scored 2 quick goals early in the 3rd. I did. 3rd goal was a little lucky and a crazy tip in. 1 out of 100 might go in but Ottawa's 4th goal was an inexcusable lapse in communication between Dahlin and Timmins. The epic bed pooping was on.
Positives:
Two pivotal moments in this game and the Sabres kept their composure long enough for McLeod to deliver two huge goals. There is a lot to like about the Doan - Tuch - McLeod line. Doan isn't the greatest player but I love his game. He is tough to play against and has a little bit of offensive potential. Benson was immediately noticeable. Some puck luck
Negatives
Puck luck, lots of it. Giving up 4 goals. Maybe the second one was goaltender interference and maybe the 3rd one was lucky but still. This team is not going to score 5 goals a night even with Norris, Kesselring, and Greener in the lineup. They probably lose that game 7 times out of 10. The advanced stats that I barely understand say we got lucky.

And if the sweeper gets the ball in his hands it'll probably go for at least 20 yards.
The Knox sweep fumble looked like it could have gone for a big gain. For us, to be clear.
The Moore sweep looked like a bust from the get go.

This run to two afc championship losses has not been that impressive, when you consider the competition in the afc east and the qb we have.
You play the teams on your schedule. There are no asterisks next to the Pats and Colts achievements for playing in weak divisions.

I think "any decent coach" can have one or maybe two 12 win seasons with Allen and the rosters that we have had. I do not think too many coach GM combos can sustain the level of excellence we have seen for 7 years. Look at Philadelphia. Super Bowl caliber roster that is on the verge of falling apart multiple times under Sirianni.
I'd trade 4 more years of 12 win seasons for one Lombardi and 3 years of underperformance but the Lombardi is hardly guaranteed just by changing the staff. Any new staff will want to bring in a new system and turn over the roster. In the modern NFL that can take as little as one offseason or it can be 2 to 3 years. If there ever was a time to totally overhaul the roster, it is this offseason.
