I respect the Steelers...but there's one thing you left out about their fans that explains why a lot of people I know hate the Steelers....they're one of the most obnoxious fan bases around. There were some Steelers fans I knew who said that they would like the Bills better except that they hated Jim Kelly. When Chris Mortensen started a rumor that Kelly was going to go to Pissburgh in 97, those same Steelers fans were all "all right, Kelly's great...he's gonna teach Kordell to be a QB!!" Obviously, there's bad eggs in every group of fans but I dealt with enough obnoxious Steelers fans to sour me on the whole group

Wilson comments on current Bills
The_Philster replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's been spending money on players...he's not the GM or talent evaluator that decides who's brought in..but he did get Buddy Nix to come back to the team to help run the scouting it'd be misleading if he had said Buffalo was his first choice ...it's not like Buffalo was the only choice he could make -
Ralph's comments at the hall of fame press conference

For one thing, Jimbo respects Ralph...Ralph has stated for years that he won't sell the team no matter what. What? Is Jim gonna call him a liar? For another, do you know what Ralph had for breakfast this morning? Because unless you're following his every step, you don't have a clue whether or not anyone made an offer for the team. Contrary to popular belief, Ralph doesn't have to report everything he does or says to the media. There's a rumor that came out almost a year ago that said that there was a plan in place in which Mary Wilson would get the team upon Ralph's passing and was going to sell it to Kelly's group of investors. For all we know, that plan is in place and Ralph was a key figure in getting it done. I never fail to be amazed when someone makes a bold claim saying that because they didn't hear about something happening, it couldn't have happened. -
I'm really happy for Ralph, but...

Regarding Butler, we were gonna be bad whether we kept him or not...at least for a time...consider how he kept overpaying for mediocre talent and mangling the salary cap. Regardless, he was gone whether Ralph fired him or not...a few weeks after he was fired his contract was up...a contract he refused to work with Ralph on extending...Butler's wife wanted out of Buffalo. Some will say that Ralph low-balled him on his first contract offer but you usually do that in contract negotiations anyway. Besides, Butler didn't do as much as the GM as many GMs around the league were doing...he was mainly running the scouting department and paid little attention to how much he was paying players. As far as worse since Donahoe was fired? wanna pass that crack pipe? We may not be much better than we were under Donahoe, but I can't see us as being worse by any means -

Actually, Irvin didn't make it in until his 3rd year of eligibility...I think his 3 Super Bowl rings gave him an edge -

yeah...part of it depends on the hotel, too. We're staying in Motel 6 in North Canton where I've stayed each trip since 2001...and that price actually went down. I recall looking at it back in September and prices were about $80/night...and I paid less than $50 last night when I booked -

don't know about a study...but consider the taxes paid by the players and Bills employees...income taxes going to NYS on incomes in the millions of dollars. Then let's consider support staff like security, concessions, etc who will lose income. There's restaurants and hotels in the area who make more during a game weekend than they make during a whole month in the offseason (and some of that offseason business they get is from wealthy players who spend freely) who'd lose a lot of business if they were even able to stay in business at all. And even if they were, there'd be plenty of job cuts You don't need a study...just some common sense and a knowledge of the area -

point 1 is key....people talking that he should just sell the team don't have any common sense. Yeah, sell the team and have to pay capital gains taxes and then his heirs have to pay estate tax on top of that.. HELLO MCFLY!! Here's a solution for all of you that want him to sell the team...YOU pony up the money for the capital gains taxes that he'd have to pay for selling the team..it'll only be a few hundred million dollars -

some people don't have a clue what an economic impact the Bills have on the region...as bad as things are now, if we ever lose the Bills, things will get a lot worse -

If you don't book a hotel soon...you'll have to stay a half hour away I booked in April 99 for Billy Shaw...stayed half an hour away...learned my lesson in 01...booked within days after the announcement that Marv was going in and got a great location in 02...I booked in October the previous year for Jimbo..same location booked in early February in 03 and 07 for those years...ditto booked last night for this year....there were already rooms disappearing quick from where I booked prices change too..we looked at Best Western in North Canton back in September...$85 a night but they wanted it up front...that same location wanted $380/night when I looked last night do it soon...I'm booked and we already ordered tickets as well -

Simms was right...it's pretty obvious that he led with his shoulder -
well, considering Wade quit on the team...first by publicly saying we were out of the playoff hunt when we weren't yet eliminated and then by refusing to get rid of his butt buddy Ronnie Jones...I don't completely disagree with running him out of town (kind of sad that a quitter like that is better than anything we've had since)As far as Holocek....I got his jersey myself...just a few months before he left

only on a part-time basis...not like he actually put any effort into helping us win...spent all offseason down at the U with the other thugs. It definitely looks to be more serious an injury than he deserves, though....maybe a broken leg or some torn up ligaments -
it was 10 games total...the first 8 of which were Bryce's last as a Buffalo Bill. He was a force in the 3-4 rushing the passer from the SOLB position. In the 4-3, he wasn't asked to rush the passer all that much...spent more time in coverage...a definite weakness in his game. Maybe he would've gotten better had he had more time to adapt to the position, but I think the Bills, when his contract came up for renewal, felt they were better off with a LB who was a decent pass rusher who played well in coverage...Sam Rogers truth be told, when we picked up Jeff Posey from Houston, I wasn't one of the unrealistic fans expecting huge sack numbers because I remembered the different responsibilities that Paup dealt with.
