dang, I was legit excited to add him. We need to add another speed piece to this offense Yep, this was the tampering portion of FA. Actual free agency doesn't start for like 2.5 hours

The real problem the Bills will have is in 2023, which is why it’s good to be wary of these restructures https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2023/all/buffalo-bills// They only have 31 players under contract and 179M of cap space taken up. Even if the cap is at 230M that’s not actually a ton of space - especially considering Edmunds, Knox, Bates (assuming he had a good year) ~ 20M in cap space after being resigned - I think Jordan Poyer will have to be allowed to walk, while Diggs, Tre and Dawkins would be extended.

DT DaQuan Jones to Buffalo, $3.58M cap this year

Would imagine the cap hit is skewed towards next season, with the idea that the Bills either keep him and restructure and convert a roster as a singing bonus, or cut him and leave just that roster bonus as the dead cap hit. something like 5M this year, and 5M roster + 5M base salary in 2023 -
If ford makes it through training camp without getting cut I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Not sure what NE was doing with that Shaq Mason deal
-
Thats likely so that they can fit the announced signings under the cap
-
Well teams should sign zone CBs and keep playing them in zone defenses.
-
They've gotten a little worse actually when they lost Ward. But that's not really a position where I'd want the Bills to be in. Everytime they play the Chiefs, it's a complete toss up because neither offense can be consistently stopped, and if Herbert takes a stop forward and they add another WR, then they're in the same boat offensively - except they have elite defensive talent.
-
I also include the nickel package, which is to say the base defense. Plus when you have these LBs covering modern TEs...I mean they have average speed compared to someone like Mike Gesicki. You can't really use them in man or match up zones against teams with more athletic TEs. Now Edmunds erases a lot of ground but Milano does struggle with faster TEs. The problem with the Bills is that they go out of their way to protect their safeties and corners. They have that mushroom zone because they simply don't have the speed to play anything more aggressive. There's a lot of lockeroom/intangibles that our safety battery mates bring, but I would have thought long and hard replacing 1 of them with someone like Justin Reid - or finagling a way to draft someone like Kyle Hamilton. purely on the onfield. that would be a dynamic change to the defense that allows you to get a lot more tactical with coverages. But as it stands I think the Bills have 5 dudes out there who run 4.55 or slower 40s. Fortunately the Bills have a good pass rush. but you want to have a defense that's going to spike elite passing games, you need to be better than good in the pass rush, with so little speed in the backend
-
"huge need" is an exaggeration as Dane Jackson showed enough to be a replacement level starter, which is fine as you can protect him by making him a boundary corner. The problem is that Bills standing still haven't fixed their primary problem with the roster, which is speed in the back 7. You can do that by straight up adding more speed in the secondary in multiple spots, or by getting better in the pass rush so you don't have to cover Hill for as long as you do now. But right now, there's no reason to think the Chiefs won't put up a 40 spot on this defense.

Who's the first round pick that would be better than a high end DE who grades would excellently, at 28, whom you can probably extend and get his cap number down to like 15M this year? It's not the 1st round pick the Bills would have a problem with. It's who on the roster they'd have to sacrifice to get him, because it would be Star + plus a decent to good player The Bills would have to extend him as part of the trade. No other way. They can't eat 25M cap hit without giving up far too much talent. Heck even 15M you're going to have to sacrifice a starter.

You mean he's taking Moss' spot

can't say enough good things about this Free Agent class for the Bills and how they're managing their roster and cap
-
Because Klein is a depth player and whoever replaces him is only of the field like 30% of the time. The Sam backer isn’t a starter here and you don’t pay one to be a starter. Find that guy in tier 2/3 or the draft. Jack is a Mike backer who would replace Edmunds
-
No. Not with Edmunds on the roster. We got like 20M cap space dedicated to 2 LBs - which is fine considering the system the Bills use, your LBs are incredibly important. But you can’t pay 3 linebackers like that
-
If the Bills could get a 2nd or possibly 3rd for Edmunds whip signing Myles to a cheaper deal than I absolutely swing that - and I like Edmunds
-
There is some serious Manchurian candidate crap going down on in Jax. Like they’re intentionally wrecking the WR market for everyone else

There’s like 5 difference makers at DT and possibly 0 at 1T in the NFL (the Bills might have one right now at 3T) The Bills would be wasting money on an impact DT right now and going for quality depth and rotation is exactly what you want. If there is an impact DE out there, then you might have to extent Diggs or something to make room for him, but otherwise the Bills are doing great right now. Keep adding quality to the 54 -
they also have to recreate some depth in the oline. All they have is Tommy Doyle I think, with Boettger coming off a torn Achilles. They’ll need a swing and a pure IOL who can contribute. Defensively, they’re not going to pay Levi Wallace starter money, so they need another corner there. Think that’s what they’ll use for tier 2 and draft.
-
I don’t know about that. If you’re a contender you can’t go into the draft hoping to find a starter. For the Bills the draft is all about depth and replacing guys in 1-3 years. They need to find a starter at guard well before the draft - it’s really their only open position as starters assuming they’re comfortable starting Dane Jackson across from Tre White
-
yea not too surprising. Right at the numbers where i thought the bills could get him to
-
If you’re getting sacked 5 times a game, then you shouldn’t be going out and getting guards. If the Bengals want to keep Burrow alive then they need to find a pair of tackles that allow Jonah Williams to move inside

Guy I’m targeting is Alex Cappa. Young and athletic
