  1. I could be wrong but with 2 weeks of FA gone with no reported visits for TD Mike and very few RBs, including AP, being signed, I don't think anyone is going to go after him. I think teams know this draft of RBs is deep and they can find their starter or backup RB there, cheaper.
  2. The NFL officially lists it as this: "Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. The compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost. Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula."
  3. Hmm idk, Akiem Hicks was traded to the Pats* from The Saints on Sept 30th of 2015, he didn't even play all 16 games of 2015 as a Patriot... and he counted as a lost player for the 2017 draft comp picks when he became a FA.
  4. We need a comp picks status check, pronto!
  5. And done. Bills match the offer. No brainier and thank you LA Rams for negotiating for the Bills.
  6. It's based off a couple of things. Money, playing time, etc. No one knows the exact formula. Ozzie Newsom won't say how the Ravens think it's forumlated. Point is, no one knows exactly. Is it exactly numbers lost and gained. I'm not sure, if it is why weren't Felton and Harvin listed as players gained by the Bills. Both received nice contracts from the Bills in '15. Anyways, don't mean to sidetrack the thread but comp picks seem to be the '17 buzz word and topic.
  7. Actually that's not true, at all. No one actually knows which players count and which don't. Look no further than the 2016 comp picks Buffalo recieved. The official NFL comms release says for the purpose of comp picks in 2015 the Bills lost these players: Searcy Pears Spiller Lee Smith The Bills gained via FA: Tyrod Taylor As I'm sure you know, Taylor wasn't the only FA they signed. They also signed Felton, Harvin, Carrington, Connor and Simms. All UFAs. Technically they signed Incognito as well and he was an UFA too but I'm sure him being out of the NFL can't count as a loss against a team. And yet, the Bills got 2 comp picks.
  8. Hmmmm, depends on what effect the signing has on comp picks.
  9. I'll take the over, somewhere between 7-9 wins. I imagine the Jets will be awful and maybe the Bills split with the Dolphins. They could probably win at home against the Saints, Bucs and Colts. So that's 6 there. Possible other wins at Bengals/Chargers.
  10. Well actually if the Bills do decide to match they'll pay him as a backup for '17 AND get him for '18 to be a starter, if the Bills let Woods' contract run out, at backup G/C money. Do you not understand that? In your scenario the Bills only get his services for '17, as a backup.
  11. No the Bills don't have to pay the same amount anyways. Obviously you aren't understanding that the Bills could use the RFA tender to sign Groy for 2 years, not 1. And he's a backup C/G, you sign him to a 2nd round tender his camp believes he's a starter and therefore negotiates as such. It hasn't been determined yet, if he is in fact a starter. The Bills are unlikely to cut Wood this offseason considering his $4.3m dead cap hit. So you'd be paying Groy $2.6m to be a backup for '17.
  12. No, it's hasn't. The 2nd round tender gets the Bills Groy for 1 year. Now, if the Bills want to keep him, they get to keep him for 2 years $3.5m guaranteed.
  13. Huh? They would have secured a back-up, as Wood is the starter, for this year only. And which team was going to give up a 2nd round pick for Groy? And secure him for 2 years, not 1.
  14. I actually don't think it could have worked out any better for the Bills/Whaley. It did exactly what they wanted, got Groy on a cheap longish deal.
  15. The Bills would actually save money this year, with the deal the Rams have offered.
  16. Yup, I was going to say the same thing. It's a good way to gauge a players value. The contract value that the Rams offered($1.5 this year) is actually cheaper than the tender value($1.79m) and there was no reason to use the 2nd round tender. Absolute no brainer for the Bills to match. Thank you Rams.
  17. Where did I say that I was showing causation? I asked to be shown it. Then I pointed out that the Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons, both good teams, have had 0 comp picks in the past 4 years,
  18. Sorry but I agree with Gunner here, show me the causation. The Broncos, for all their smarts had 9 total comp picks from 1994 to 2014. They've only just recently started accumulating a lot of comp picks. Is that because they've had a talented team and can't keep everyone? They had already won 2 Super Bowls previously and had been to the SB in 14' and then won another SB after gaining 5 more picks. Are you suggesting those 5 picks are what led to that SB victory? And what about the Oakland Raiders? They have quietly become one of the best teams in the AFC in the past 4 years. They have received ZERO comp picks in that time. Why aren't they smartest teams in the league? What about the Atlanta Falcons, who also have received zero in the past 4 years and yet they were just in a Super Bowl and should have won? Which is further than the Cowboys have been in 22 years. Further than the Chiefs have been. And further than the Bengals have been.
  19. And as I pointed out, the Bills have taken advantage, they are in the top 1/3 of teams in total compensatory picks. And before this past year they were in the top 10. The Bills haven't eschewed anything yet. This thread was very, very premature. There are plenty of Bills FAs that will most likely be signed by other teams.
  20. Ok, well multiple teams in the bottom 10 in terms of compensatory picks have made the SB, mutiple times. So what does that say? You just said "quality teams" take advantage of the compensatory draft pick system. Now you're saying it's not a prerequisite for respectable franchises? So which is it?
  21. As I pointed out earlier in the thread... prior to this years comp picks being handed out the Bills were one of the top 10 teams with the most comp picks. Other "quality" teams in the top 10: Detroit San Fran LA Rams Tennessee Dallas Philly Denver, with their 3 SBs since 1994, has 20 comp picks in that time, less than what the Bills have had. There are a lot of teams around the amount the Bills have historically in terms of comp picks and there are the Ravens, who are in a league of their own.
  22. He's just not in the first wave of FA. He will certainly be signed by someone.
