  1. Just read another article about LB's in our division and rate ours the worst in the East. I look at the Pats with Mayo and now Spikes. We are woefully outmatched at LB. But there's a slight chance this crew of out of position, learning on the fly misfits may gel and have a better season than expected. Hey if your expected to suck but play ok then you're ahead right? Injury is the key. If they can stay healthy we have a chance to not suck. I think Poz, Veek, AD, CK, and Torbor/Maybe could at least not hurt us too bad if healthy. Always a chance they prove people wrong and become a force. But Sully and the rest of them are right to be so down on the crew given all the factors on the team and compared to the rest of the league.

  2. You are wrong for misquoting Sully. He never said that the Bills had the worst LB's. He said they "might" have the worst LB corps. There is a big difference because he goes on to say all the reasons they "might" be horrible. Be objective, remove the love for our Bills and read the article as a knowledgable football fan. IMO Sullivan is right on all points, he "might" be wrong and I hope he is but I have to agree with him on this one.

  3. How exactly are the Jets favorites without a proven entity at QB? Sure Dirty Mark was a highly picked rookie with high expectations, but that and a $1 will get you a cup of coffee. Their offensive strength was running and if I'm not mistaken they dropped their #1 RB.

    #1 defense #1 rushing attack

    Was that a rhetorical question?

  4. Watching Maybin play in the Indy game I saw him pound his chest making routine tackles and bumping into opponents as if to mess with them. To me that's being a punk; acting like your something special when you're really nothing. That disturbs me because I can see Maybin getting a dumb penalty at a crucial time. Gailey needs to straighten him out and get him to grow up some.

    PTR

Nailed it! He's a arrogant a-hole. He showboats, dances around after he jumps on a pile. He is incredibly egotistical, w/o game to back it up. I've seen him more than once down here this summer at the gym. Everybody hates him, not for being a Bill, but for being a dick. He's the only one tooting his horn and I hope we cut him. When he plays against first teamers he gets owned. Make him the quickest fullback in the NFL.

  5. So by extension, you'd rather be dead than have a crappy life.

Gaughan's simplistic use of the salary cap is his first mistake. Yearly total payroll (i.e. the money actually spent) is the key, not how teams creatively fit under the salary cap. The Bills were 11th last year in that category.

That makes it even worse! If they spent that much for a terrible product, no probowlers or all star players where is the bang for the buck? If your saying they spent more than 21 other teams and still fielded that piece of crap we saw last year-pathetic. I feel better when I hear we had the absolute lowest payroll, then you can blame ralph for being cheap. Using your numbers we are worse, inept and systematically horrible.

  6. Not to be an ass, but I don't think the Bills care whether you see potential in any of their players or not (which is what I was talking about - not your opinion on him, or mine either for that matter). Also, Maybin is way bigger than Coleman, which was the biggest knock on him and probably the reason he wasn't drafted at all.

I'm all for cutting him if there is someone else that he would be taking a roster spot from, but that isn't the case this year, especially after Batten going on IR. They are going to keep 5 OLBs - Kelsey, Ellis, Torbor, Maybin, and Coleman and none of those guys have any serious competition. Next year when they lose Kelsey and possibly Torbor, they'll draft one or two OLBs and still keep Maybin as at least the fifth because there 'll be a clear 5 players better than everyone else, which will include Maybin. I think you do mor eharm than good if you cut him too quickly - he should get some opportunity to show what he can do over a few seasons.

When you start out a reply with "not to be an ass" it's probably too late. There will always be Maybe supporters and detractors. We sit on opposite sides of the fence on this. I hope by the end of the year I'm proved wrong. But I have this one tucked away to regurgitate in a year when he's gone, "not to be an ass" but time will tell who's right. I can see we are stuck with him for now so I hope he does something to earn is money.

  7. LOL ok.

Yes Free Agent signings make teams awesome. IT works every year right? LOL ok. Oh wait i know the bills need to spend 14 million a year on a corner. If they did this the fans would be happy?

Sorry but your conclusions from two articles about two different cities and two different sports are poor. I don't understand how you can draw comparisons between the two.

Really? The pirates stink every year, so do the Bills. The Pirates have loyal blue collar fans, so do the Bills. The Pirates have tiny payroll compared to the competetive teams, don't spend on free agents, like the Bills. The Pirate fans get the shaft, as do we, while the oner makes millions like Ralph. Are you serious? You don't see the similarities. Just because its baseball and football doesnt mean its apples and oranges.

  8. Why would you think that the QB search will end if we picked a QB in the top five in next years draft....It is not like we have not been searching for one....We paid a 1st for Drew Bledsoe, We paid a next years 1st round for JP Losman. We invested in a 3rd round to get Craig Nall and another 3rd round on Edwards....The common theme amongst all these failures was a CONSTANT CHANGE TO THE OFFENSIVE Philosophy.....Edwards is entering his 4th season and will be having his 3rd OC (in the span of 14 months to boot). Losman came into the league and had 3 different OCs. Even Mike Williams the 4th overall pick had 4 different OL coach during his tenure here... The good teams do not see such turnovers in their coaching staff...It just does not let players develop.

I am hoping Edwards and Brohm are here for the long haul and hopefully the Bills can address other areas.

No the common theme was the QB's had no talent, our scouting dept stinks. Consistency helps but you first have to be talented. I would love us to take a QB with our first pick and get a top 2 if they're worth it. Problem is I have little faith that the Bills wouldn't screw it up and take Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning.

  9. What are the operating costs for the Bills? You need to know this before calling Ralph cheap. You need to remember that the Bills are a business whose sole purpose is to make money. If you start paying the absurd amount of money teams like the Redskins do for Albert Haynesworth the bills might go in the red. If the Bills going into the Red they are moving. Is that what you want?

Haynesworth is an outrageous example of overspending. You need to stop throwing out his name when defending Ralph for being cheap. Don't use Dockery's name for examples ofbd spending either. You have to look at trends and overall payroll, not just 1 player. Of course we don't want the Snyder approach but that's the extreme. The BILLS are the other extreme by underspending, not resigning their best players and not going after better players and coaches. The numbers don't lie, Ralph is cheap and we will never be a winner unless we pay for better personnel. If you look at the top ten teams in spending, 8 of them were in the playoffs last year. The bottom 10-no playoffs. No coincidence.

  10. I think the obvious answer is at least after you've given him a chance to get on the field and do something.

I do think you have to give him at least this year and next year. If at that time there has been zero improvement (i.e. he's still playing primarily on ST and not getting into games on defense - even as a pass rush specialist), you'd have to look at cutting him. I think you have to give him as much time as you can because of his potential and also because we are going to need pass rushers. Personally, I'd keep him on the team as the 4th OLB until his contract comes up unless he is not playing at all on defense or we drafted someone markedly better. I do think an OLB will be drafted early next year in the draft (top 100 pick), but that still leaves us with 4 including Maybin (assuming Kelsey is not retained).

Potential? What "potential"? A Bills scout and Jauron saw potential but that's not enough for me. You say potential but I have not seen any in 2 years. Just because our pathetic scouting dept and tricky dick saw potential doesn't mean there is any. He's a back up OLB and special teamer at best. Get rid of him now and develop your own picks.

Good job BILLS and their scouts, another bust. I say cut him now and give his back up job to Coleman, who has man size and NFL strength to geter one. If I see maybe show boat, jump on piles, get knocked on his ass one more time I'll puke.

  11. Wake up your dreaming. I tagged this post so I can pull it out in November when we're debating what player to take with a top 5 pick.

We are better than we were last year because we have a real football coach who billieves in hard work and competition but we are not a "good team" yet IMO.

Good teams by my definition are in the top 1/3 of the leauge, average in the middle 1/3 and bad in the bottom 1/3. Do you billieve that we are in the top third of the NFL? What do you base that on? You have to prove yourself, on the field, in the regulare season and make the playoffs if you're considered to be a good team.

  12. Maybin will get more chances to produce than any other Jauron holdover because he was drafted so high. It doesnt look good for the whole organization when theres a bust. Look how many chances McCargo got, Ryan Leaf, players like that. If your a high draft pick you have what seems like forever, Vernon Gohlston is on his 3rd position with the Jets and is finally turning some heads. So Maybin may actually get a shot at a 3rd position next year if he can't make it as an OLB. Look for Maybe to play fullback next season!

  13. Where's all the MAYBIN supporters? Against 2nd-3rd-4th teamers he got nowhere last night. He looked too small, took bad angles again and if we were playing pig he would have a B-U-S-_ so far. Some people can tolerate his showboating but it gets obnoxious after a while. We have no pass rush unless we send a safety blitz. He was supposed to be that pass rush. Nothing I've seen from him in 2 years can explain why we took him at #11. A move to a new position, that will do it. Well, it hasn't. I don't know why he's on this team. I love Penn State but he's no Shane Conlan. Please cut his little ass!

Could you imagine if we had Orakpo or Mike Oher right now instead of MAYBE? Either of those 2 players would make our team instantly much better. The draft 2 years ago produced some nice players for us, but our #1 pick is another first round B-U-S- _ !

  14. CJ Spiller getting the starting nod on this team is a good thing. This kid is going to be a special player.

    GO BILLS

Does that deserve it's own thread? Can you come up with some original thoughts, observations or questions?

    My turn:

Lee Evans is a secial player.

    Moorman is a good punter.

    Gald Lindel is our kicker.

Do you get it? When I click on a new thread I expect a little more, either positive-negative or at least interesting.

I'm sure you can do better.

  15. I am a big hater of our OT's, but with the starters in they at least looked OK. Maybe OK will be good enough to win some games with our backs, and look what Captain Checkdown did with a few seconds to look downfield-69 yard bomb...Wow that had to be the play of the game for me. I haven't seen that from him in years. I 'm very pecimistic regarding our QB's but Trent and Brohm looked much improved last night.

Gailey has been saying he just wants to see improvement, well he should be happy with that performance as it's the first glimmer of hope in some time. We went against a super bowl defense and moved the ball. Big difference from just a week ago.

We still have a long way to go, concerned about the TE, and Bryan Scott getting torched 2 games in a row. But overall looked very good last night. Way to go BILLS.

  16. You should watch the game over again. When the Bills are in the 3-4, he's still being used as a 1 gap NT. He played very little 2 gap last night and in the Washinton game regardless of offensive personnel. I'm as cynical as it gets about the Bills but give credit where credit is due. When guys like Donte and Poz get all of the pub for missing tackles, taking bad angles and not realizing that defense is played at the LOS and not 10 yards downfield, you gotta give credit to the Bills best defender. I stand by the Pro Bowl prediction and check the TFL column at the end of the year because KW will be up at the top.

He's gonna have to beat out Jenkins, Wolfork and several other great NT's before you can talk probowl. He's been playing well, better than expected. But your talking out your a_ _ with the probowl stuff.

  17. Glad someone appreciates my positive outlook, the doom and gloomers need to leave this board. Why be a fan if you don't have realistic hope?

"Jairus, they had to do a procedure on Jairus and it looks like he's going to be out for awhile. It was residual from the off-season stuff. We're hoping (his return will be) first game but it may be not."

Sounds like its not serious. If theyre hoping for the first game, then they definately think its not long term. But you caught me, he could miss some time.

Our line is healthy, theyre just bringing them back slowly.

    GO BILLS!

Realistic and hope are two words rarely paired together as they have different meanings. After 35 years of being a BILLS fan, I've earned the right to be pecimistic. You must be too young to remember sitting through the 80's at Rich next to 100 people with paper bags on their heads. Losing 4 Superbowls and then a 11 year playoff drought. Did you become a fan yesterday? I would love them to win every game and I hope they do, but don't tell people to get off this board because they're realists.

  18. I live in DC and Shanahan did put an emphasis on playing that game HARD. It was important in front of their owner and new GM to show a winning attitude. Not to mention McNabb and Grossman are better than anyone we have running the offense. Haslett did throw a lot of pressure at Buffalo for an opening preseason game. After listening to HAslett, it almost made me wish he was our coach (even though i did not support him during the coach search). He's doing a great job in DC,,,at least in camp installing their new defense.

I live in virginia and was at the game as well. I think what happened Friday was the result of better coaching and better personnel. We've looked like we're walking through games for some time. The Skins put serious money into top notch new coaches and players and it shows. We are the Dollar General of the NFL. That's why our product looks bad, because its cheap and not as good as name brand. I predict that both teams seasons go as we saw in that 1 preseason game. Yeah it' hard to judge based off 1 preseason game, but the Bills have looked that bad for the majority of 10 years so I refuse to think it's an anomally.

  19. Oh brother.

Brohm I can understand, but Brown was a seventh round pick.

    Let me repeat that:

Brown was a seventh round pick.

What round was Tom Brady drafted? What round was Kurt Warner drafted? You cannot assume based on draft position who will be successful in the NFL. Is it likely that a 7th rounder will be a starter? Maybe not but you can NEVER rule it out.

Yeah, let's decide a player's ability and career based on a single preseason game.

    <DING>

    Hot pockets are done.

  20. 1 false start

    1 holding penalty

    2 missed assignments

1 phantom injury where he stands there holding something during the play

But he gives the first 100 fans a Karl Malone bobblehead doll

He takes Trents helmet after a sack for a safety and dunks it over the goal posts

He lines up on the line of scrimmage avaoiding the usual illegal formation penalty (he can learn from last year)

Asks the ref to throw a flag on Freeny for 3 seconds violation

  21. Have you read a Pats, Colts, Saints board? People still attack each other when their team wins the Superbowl, quite sad really. I thought maybe if we went to the playoffs the tension and harshness would diminish here but I doubt it. People are people everywhere and they have mean streaks and say things via internet they would never say in person. I would love to see some of our posters in person and have them repeat what they said behind their computers. I don't ever recall being called so many names prior to midnight in my life as I do here. Point is people say nasty **** to each other in the safety of their home and it doesn't matter what team they root for. Actually TBD is more friendly than some others I have visited, but we should refrain from name calling and stick to the topic.
