  1. I know his brother Kevin who's a Jamestown Police officer. I don't see Shane much her in Jamestown for the most part. I don't have a bad word to say either.

I grew up in Jamestown, played against Shane during 3 school scrimmages at Southwestern. Shane's brother Mike lives down the street from my parents over on Pershing Avenue. Since our school was alot bigger it was our JV team against their varsity. For a small school like Frewsburg they were pretty tough. A friend of mine Tom Sharp was Shane's coach in high school, I know they stay in touch.

  2. Shane Conlan was recently named All Time Great Bill #27. A little low I think for a stud run stuffer from our glory years.

I know Shane personally because we plyed high school ball against each other and his brother lives down the street from my parents in Jamestown, NY. We have bumbed into each other a bunch of times, he's a good guy and willing to tell stories and answer questions about the Bills. In a HS game he hit me so hard that I thought a piano had fallen on my head, he absolutely destroyed me. I got up and for a minute thought I was vacationing in Hawaii! Definately my first concussion. He hit another back so hard it made him cry and leave the game. The other players teased him for crying but I didn't, I didn't want to go back in either.

Shane still has a large house on lake Chautauqua, speaks at banquets and other community events and will have a few cold ones w/wings around town. I have never heard a bad thing said about Shane Conlan and don't want to, he's an outstanding family man and proud former Buffalo Bill.

One thing though, Shane has the Biggest Head I've ever seen, size of a large watermellon. He has shoulders that won't pass through a doorway and legs the size of a flamingo's. But the S.O.B could hit!

With all the B.S. negative spew on most boards I wanted to say something nice about one of our finest Bills ever.

Please add some similar stories about "Hammerhead", negative posters resist the urge to badmouth Shane.

  3. So Troupe, Wang, and the 7 other players did not address Needs....

    Round Pick Player Position

1 9 (9) Spiller, C.J. RB - Home Run Hitter on offense Bills have desperately needed

2 9 (41) Troup, Torell DT - BIG DT to anchor our D-line whos work ethic and understanding of the game and his position are highly reguarded

    3 8 (72) Carrington, Alex DE - Freakish athleticism, needs at LB/DE

4 9 (107) Easley, Marcus WR - still an unknown but we need recievers

5 9 (140) Wang, Ed OT - Amazing story and work ethic, has all the intangibles but is a little rough around the edges

6 9 (178) Moats, Arthur DE - see Carrington, Alex

6 23 (192) Batten, Danny DE - see Carrington, Alex

    (From Eagles)

7 2 (209) Brown, Levi QB - Hes one bad mama jama, was rated 6 best QB in draft steal in the 7th round

    (From Lions)

7 9 (216) Calloway, Kyle OT - An unknown but adds OL depth.

SO tell me again, we did not address needs in the draft how, because your draft board was not selected?

The BIGGEST team needs were Quarterback and Left Tackle. All your gibberish left out those two critical positions. The team has so many holes that yes-no matter who they took filled some, just not the ones most important to success.

  4. There are more things wrong with our team than right. I hate to admit that, but's it's true. However, a few things right with this team are as follows: Chan Gailey, Fred Jackson, Moorman, the Byrd man, & Spiller. There are more good things I can think of, but those few names came to mind as people with upside in our organization.

Gailey and Spiller are "right with this team"? What-T-F have they done? The original post is mostly negative-true, but what reason does any Bills fan have to be positive about? 10 years no playoffs, another odd draft where needs are not addressed, games played out of country, quarterbacks who all suck. I am a die-hard Bills loving fan but until they win they deserve all the crap people write about them. For too many of you the truth hurts!

  5. i would agree with you if you were correct . . . but you are not - the fo is doing just what needs to be done - the first thing to be fixed is getting much, much better against the run - we were 30th in the league against the run and you just cant win games like that - you really cant - no matter who the qb is or how many hof o-linemen you have if you are 30th in the nfl against the run you will lose more games than you will win.

now during the rest of the offseason this year and in next year's draft if we don't get at least a starting (better than average) qb (if not a franshise qb) and two good ot's (one rt, one lt) then i'll share your point to view

WRONG!!!!!!!!Colts were dead last aginst the run last year and went to the Superbowl..Think before you speak.

  6. How is it there are posts that say there will be no wins next year, posts saying our front office is full of morons, posts saying our draft was awful, posts saying how bad our roster is for xxx position?

I am tired of reading along a new thread and seeing where someone starts a good conversation than someone replying with a post that without support, logic, thought, or anything that just simply says how bad we are.

I really believe that some of the posters here are so negative and pessimist that they probably drive down the high way and see their car on empty. Instead of filling the gas up to keep driving they probably think, "oh heck, it'll just run through the gas again if I put more in, I'll just keep going on empty." It's worse than those idiots on TV who always rant about how bad our government is and how so much is screwed up without getting in to their beliefs or giving a way to fix the problem in general!

I gues my point is, how do you people consider yourself Bills fans? What pleasure do you get out of the game when you're always looking at how bad the team is? Personally, I know we are not such a good team and have problems! But, I absolutely love to see the Bills try to fix the problem, seeing them try to put the puzzle together, than us analyze the moves.

May the 2010 Buffalo Bills season bring us all more optimism!!!

Hey Artie. Go get the knife in the kitchen and go at it. What the F is your point? We have sucked for 10 years now so what do you expect?

  7. I said yesterday that Nix would NOT go LT with #9. His drafting philosophy is to take O-Lineman in later rounds. His first pick ever was Tomilson and he did it again with Spiller. Even if Williams or Okung were available, Spiller was his guy. He wants excitement and to sell tickets. we already have 2 backs but he zeroed in on Spiller anyway. Now if we trade Lynch for a 3rd and take a Tackle with the extra pick I will be singing his praises. I would love for them to take either Clausen or McCoy tonight; trade Lynch to provide us 2 thirds where we take 2 tackles it would be one hell-of-a draft no matter what we do Saturday. There is a chance we could get Spiller, Clausen, 2 Tackles, OLB, WR and OG before its all over.

  8. I didn't really think about this before we picked Spiller but Running Back was a position of need for us. Not as big as some of the other needs but we definitely need a young stud. We cannot count on Lynch. He may or may not be a guy that will ever really produce for us again. If he does great because you need at least 2 good backs to be successful.

Secondly everyone forgets that Freddy is approaching age 30. He is 29 right now and he may only have one successful year left in his tank. Maybe not, maybe five years but at the end of the day I don't think we were as set at Running Back before last night than everyone thought.

I think it was a good move. If we add good players throughout the rest of the draft we can only get better.

I was just thinking about that and it made sense to me, I guess something its something to chew on.

Spiller is electrifying. But when they called his name I screamed. We do not need a RB, we have 2 good ones. We need help on the OLine, DLine, and QB. I gues their strategy is best player available. Look for them to take a safety tonight!

  9. Florence just tweeted: "inside the bills draft room Pittsburg will take tebow and buffalo will take best tackel available if not best player left on draft board"

    http://twitter.com/DraytonFlorence/status/12644287920

BIG NEWS! I have heard the same thing for 6 months. LT or best available. Tell me something I DON'T know. Pittsburg is not taking Tebow either, unless Big Ben is traded. They need a CB and love Pouncey in round 1.

  10. I have been hoping for 2 years that we fix our LT position, and now we have holes at both tackles. As much as I would love to hear Brian Bulaga's name called tonight, I don't see that happening. The more I discover about Nix, the more I fear that he will NEVER draft a LT that high. His history says that we will get either Derrick Morgan, Spiller (if we trade Lynch), McCain (if they feel Schobel's done) or Clausen (if available). Nix does not value OL in round 1 of the draft, he believes you can be competent up front by drafting them in later rounds. I see us taking LT in round 3-4. He will load up on OLB, NT, QB,RB if history repeats itself. Tebow...no way. It is a misinformation ploy. No team covets a player that much prior to the draft or they lose any leverage or bargaining ability. Between Nix loving him and Kelly wine and dining him it screams to me ... no Tebow.

  11. The best OT available or Dan Williams of University of Tennessee. If you're going three four you need a stud nose tackle run stopper, and he's the guy. The team gets better, assuming we go 3-4, from day one with this pick. We still need to dress a lot of O-line problems with the rest of the draft.

Williams is good but has played mainly DT not NT. You can get Troupe in round 3-4 and be almost as good. Nix won't pull the trigger on LT that early. It will either be Morgan or Clausen, if he's there.

  12. Post 'em if you got 'em!

I am torn so I have two. A. we are gonna trade down and get more picks. When we do we address NT first.

Second option, if we stay at 9 it will be LT or NT. Who? Not sure who will be there.

Brace yourself folks...Nix NEVER drafts O-Lineman (in round 1). He will either take Morgan, Spiller or Clausen. All his Tebow talk is misinformation. Kelly taking him out to dinner...misinformation. Either they really want Clausen or McCoy. I don't think they go OT until round 3-4. I would be ok with either Clausen or Morgan, Spiller if they trade Lynch. I wish they would go LT and have been saying that for 2 years, but Nix has NEVER drafted a LT in round 1.

  13. I don't think either Williams or Okung will make it that far and Bulaga is a RT. I warmed up to the idea of Spiller and wouldn't mind that pick but the 34 NEEDS a NT and if you want a good 34 defense you need a good NT. I'm not saying Williams will be great but he and Cody are probably the best at that spot and I doubt Cody falls to the 2nd. IDK how I feel about that yet, right now it's giving me that ehhh feeling. I however would be thrilled if we traded down and grabbed him or Cody.

Bulaga a right tackle? Don't think so. Watching him I see Jake Long and so do alot of other people. Are you blinded by the "short arms" arguement? His arms are at the lower end of ideal, but not too short to play LT. He is an excellent tactician, always in great position, never misses his assignments, is mean, blue-collar, nasty and is a great fit at LT for the Bills. I don't know how you can be so dismissive about one of the best LT's in the draft. AND he is better, by a mile, than any LT we have. If Brian Bulaga is there at 9, we need to take him.

  14. I fail to see how Buffalo--a team that is nowhere near a playoff contender in 2010--standing idle, while the Jets--a team that came within one game of reaching the Superbowl--sign such a player constitutes "falling further behind the pack". I, along with plenty of others (apparently), don't believe that signing a mid-30's pass rusher who's best seasons are several years removed will be the key to putting the Bills over the hump. Can you honestly say you believe that?

If you ask me, the blind and the stupid are those folks that don't understand that a perennial contender isn't built through free agent signings and trading for veteran has-beens. Ask yourself honestly, who are the perennial contenders in this league? The Colts, Steelers, Patriots, Titans, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Packers, Saints; what do they all have in common? They draft well. Look at their big-name QBs, OTs, DEs, RBs, LBs, all draft picks. The only notable exceptions: Philadelphia's Jason Peters (acquired in a trade) and New Orleans' Drew Brees (hit free agency after SD drafted Philip Rivers and Brees had a major shoulder injury). I guess you can also throw Tony Romo in there, since he was an UDFA, but I'm still giving them the credit for identifying the young talent.

Now do me a favor and name one team that's gotten good and stayed good employing the strategy that the Jets are using this off-season...go ahead...I'm waiting...

Well, until then, perhaps you should re-evaluate your stance on this matter.

    THE YANKEES!

  15. Everyone needs to relax...2010 isnt, nor was it ever inteded to be, a return to glory. Its a year for a new staff to come in and put their stamp on this team and build a foundation with the young players we have and the ones we are about to draft. Its the year to start the development of guys like Nelson, Maybin, Brohm, Hardy, Johnson, our rookies from this draft, etc...

I am not concerned about Taylor who will be done in a year or two, just about the same time our guys will be hitting their stride in development. Let these other guys sign these aging Vets like Taylor, Holt, LT, etc for a run at the SB the next 2 seasons while we build our foundation to be a leader of this division over the next 10 years.

A 10 year domination in the division. That would be too good to be true. But we both know what will happen....As soon as we start to be competitive Ralph will die and the team will move. That is the luck of a Bills fan.

  16. My favorite thing is that all the experts on TSW keep saying Maybin is a 3-4 OLB, yet I haven't heard one of them say why (with the exception of him being too small to be a 4-3 DE). Can he drop into coverage? Can he play in space? Does he have any lateral quickness? Certainly he didn't show it at the combine. Maybin's a bust, and it's just a matter of time until you people are willing to admit it.

Couldn't agree more. He hangs out with Lavar Arrington down here in Virginia and thinks he's all that in our gym. I got news for him, he can't hold Lavar's jock strap! I have been a fan for 30 years and would usually jump at the chance to rap with a player at the gym, but not Maybin. Until he shows he belongs in the NFL I got nothing for him. He struts around the gym, hitting on chicks saying "look at me everybody". Until he shows some game he is the biggest bust of the decade.

Being a die-hard fan I hope he proves everybody wrong and explodes onto the scene w/tons of sacks this year, but his attitude still sucks, believe me I have seen it first hand.

  17. Exactly....

I could not believe they passed on the Rack.

I have faith Buddy will do the right thing, lets hope so. I hope Clausen and Spiller are off the board so we can draft McClain.

MCCLAIN! I guess you want to bench Poz or Davis or Mitchell. We need a ILB with our ninth pick like a hole in the head.

What do you base this on? He is a reach in the top 10. If we go LB then make it an outside rush LB. MCCLAIN? C'mon now.

  18. Too funny! I say we all piss on the front door and make that the new team color. Reminds me of attending a game in early 90's when the K-Gun was kickin butt and taking names. I came back home with a bunch of Skins fans to see the game. It was December and snowy and the Skins players were being pelted with snowballs. I told my friends NOT to wear their Redskins jackets in the stadium but they didn't listen. Next thing you know a monster snowball (filled with piss) hit my buddy in the back of the head and splashed on several of us. Fans were plastered and being kicked out often for throwing snowballs at refs, opposing fans and players. We beat the Skins that day but my buddy never got the piss smell out of his jacket. Fond memories of Rich Stadium.

  19. If the player sucks, does it matter where you take him? Do you feel better if he went in the 2nd or 3rd round? Either way it was a bad pick. It has nothing to do with reaching.

    Again...wrong player picked...not a reach.

But you have to find a partner to trade down with, don't you? If no one wants to make a deal, then are you forced to give more away, all in the name of "draft value"??? Does this sound as retarded to you as it does to me?

Again, Donte Whitner would be just as disappointing as a 3rd rounder as a first rounder.

You're not selling tires, you're running a football team. Draft Value is an artificial concept that has no bearing on performance. You either pick players who make you a winner or not. Where they were drafted stops meaning anything one day after the draft.

So by using your logic we shouldn't grade players, we should put names in a hat and pick them whenever we want if they're available. If a 7th rounders name comes up with our first pick then pull the trigger? It does matter where we pick a player. The good ones are usually gone first and they get paid initially because of what round they're drafted. Draft value in not artificial, it's real and value/grade is a good indication of performance but there of course are always some exceptions.
