  1. The good news is Beane was able to bring in two interesting IOL prospects to compete in camp, and hopefully contribute. And there was not a lot of talent available, so good on him. Bad news is that even after adding Edwards and McGovern, pretty much nobody currently on the IOL is a bona-fide stud, unless someone is really sandbagging.

My question is...if, for example, you sign Wagner, why would you invest a high pick on another MLB, that would be sitting on the  bench?

Because even Bobby Wagner gets hurt once in a while. See: Von Miller2022 for reference.

  3. They are improving their role players beyond just special teams guys, and may have even upgraded a starting interior line spot (time will tell).

For a team that is generally in good shape at the marquee positions, it's been pretty decent so far. But I think they still need to add at least two proven starters, at G or T and LB. For some reason, maybe its Morse's fragile health, I am hoping they take an interior lineman at 27, but only if a really (really) good one is available.

I would much rather see Edmunds replaced by a FA vet than by a draftee for now, and I don't think WR is as bad off as everyone else seems to think (Davis in particular, I still Billieve), but that's just me.

  4. This could be a great pickup. Sherfield put up solid #3 WR numbers while sharing targets with the most prolific receiving duo in the league.  So he's a legit receiver, not just a gadget player or ST gunner that happens to be labeled a WR. He's biggish, really fast, and purportedly great on ST. He's got experience, versatility, athleticism, good character, and low mileage. I think he will serve whatever role he ends up with very well.

QB, CB, Punter or Kicker are the only positions they should avoid early. Rest are on the table IMO. DE and safety are close seconds.

I'm sorta joking, but sorta not. I honestly would never rule out a CB at any spot in the first round from McBeane and company.

But, my hope this year is that they trade up a bit to draft a higher caliber player at a position of need. Of all the positions they need to fill, there's a good probability that one of them will have a really good prospect slip into the high teens/low twenties. 27 is usually a wee bit too late for that action.

One question I have is: What would the Bills be offering for trade capital to move up? Picks and/or players? It seems like they don't have a lot of players of value that wouldn't sting if they left.

For me.....too hot in Florida and I don't like crawling slithering things. Guess I'm just a northeast guy.

Agreed. And the tap water tastes like well-traveled beach sand steeped in rotten seaweed. And I could go on and on, but I'm short on time.

Homer Simpson said it best: "Florida?! But that's America's Wang!"

  7. Edmunds was the centerpiece of the Leslie Frazier defensive scheme. Without Frazier, it's even harder to justify paying him that kind of coin.

I'm excited to see what's next for the Bills D, but it always Sucks to watch a blue-chip, freak athlete, team captain, quarterback of the defense just walk out the door for no compensation whatsoever. Especially at such a young age.

As Bills fans, I think we all know what's coming next - In Chicago, Edmunds blossoms into the greatest LB of his generation for the next ten years. Wins 3 titles and multiple DPOYs. Key to the city, free kielbasa for life.

  8. I think if you really looked at every team's drafting over the years, which would be incredibly tedious, you would find that the Bills are probably not much different from everyone else. Every team misses more than they hit, and a great many top QB prospects never pan out. Late round Pro-bowlers are rare everywhere.

The problem is that Bills fans look at the aggregated draft successes of all 31 other teams combined, and compare it to the Bills - without any real knowledge of other teams' draft failures, which are many.

  9. I have always wondered what Edmunds could do with a different role in a different scheme. Leslie Fraser's defense requires him to patrol the backfield, which means he is going to be pursuing plays rather than disrupting them. The argument is that his very presence shuts off the middle of the field to the opposing offense. It is very, very difficult to judge if this is true or not, if he is exceptional in this regard, and if he could be more impactful in a more aggressive role.

I'm willing to let McDermott and Beane figure it out, but it does seem telling that they would let such a high draft pick and long-time QB of the defense just walk.
