  1. I suspect Josh doesn't care about making as much as those other guys - He already has more money than he knows what to do with, and I believe he would rather surround himself with a good roster so he can win.

The problem is going to be the NFLPA. Whenever Josh does get a new contract, it will have to be enormous. The union frowns on hometown discounts - it sets the market lower for the guys who just want their bag. Hopefully, it can be structured in a team-friendly way.

  2. You can't ask for much better than Beane. He has made every kind of maneuver possible to make the Bills a contender, which they have been consistently for a good stretch of years. There is nothing he won't do - Sign a big free agent, make a huge trade, pull the trigger on a salary dump, trade up or down in the draft, whatever it takes. I also think that on balance, hindsight is pretty kind to Beane, relative to other GMs. Of course, not every move plays out the way it was intended. Not every draft pick hits. But Beane has had relatively good outcomes all around.

  3. Reich and Kenneth Davis are the top two for sure.

A lot of guys were backups for several years, but then became starters for several more. Not a lot of guys have long careers as a backup - they either start some day or get replaced by someone management thinks is better.

    Not sure all are eligible:

    • Pete Metzelaars was maybe 50/50 backup/starter.
    • AVP is your backup backup QB.
    • Don Beebe, legend.
    • Marcellus Wiley was a backup during most of his time as a Bill, no?
    • Josh Reed
    • Roscoe Parrish
    • Mario Haggan

  4. Bill Walton was an American treasure. NBA games were infinitely more entertaining when he was on the microphone - His wit and wisdom, his depth of character, his infectious spirit - There is, was, and never will be anyone like him in broadcasting. I was just a little too young to have watched him play, but I know his game was at times transcendent.

Thank you, Bill, for all the great basketball memories. You will be missed. Throw it DOWN, Big Man!

  5. A lot of proven vets don't got to OTAs. It's pretty much an unwritten privilege for the higher-mileage guys if they want to skip out, especially the guys who prove they can do it year after year. I'd say Diggs has earned the right to skip, and there's nothing to see here.

  6. 5 hours ago, Ethan in Cleveland said:

Allow coaches challenge via instant replay for everything. The game is too fast for the refs on the field. One bad holding call or roughing the passer call can change the outcome of the game. Everything should be reviewed.

They tried it with pass interference but the NFL killed it by not overturning calls that should have been overturned.  The NFL would need to commit to getting the call correct or use a third party to review all challenges.

Games would take nine hours. I would much rather they did away with challenges altogether, and just let bad calls become part of the game again.

  7.

If Tua stays, the Dolphins can still be a decent team. He manages to keep them in the hunt, even if he can't beat the Bills without 130 degree temperatures on the Buffalo sideline. He's not a bad quarterback on the whole, though he does carry major concussion concerns in his luggage.

If Tua goes, the Fins flat-out stink for a while. Even if they have already start planning for their future QB, they have nothing in the cupboard and probably not a high draft pick next year.

    Ah, Schadenfreude.
