  1. I love hearing everyone's free agent ideas (let's get Merriman, Kolb, Wilfork, Joe Montana, Barry Sanders  ) However, let's be realistic with free agent thoughts and draft picks. No, we aren't getting Russell Okung or Suh in less we trade up.

I'm generally opposed to trading down, but I think most of are in agreeance that the best DT's, OT, and QB will probably be off the board at #9. (Suh, Gerald McCoy, Okung, Clausen/Bradford). The only realistic pick worth the #9 slot is McClain. This is who we should take.

However, here is a realistic scenario of the Bills getting some good value by trading down.

    1. Trade pick #9 (Draft Value 1,350) to the 49er's for pick #17 (Draft Value 950). The 49er's send their second round pick #49 (Draft Value 410) in the exchange. Bills draft picks are valued now at 1,360 and 49er's at 1,350.

    2. The Bills then have picks #17, #41, #48.

Pick #17 Terrence Cody (DT) An ideal pick, great value, reasonable to assume he will be around at #17 and the perfect start to a 3-4 switch.

Pick #41 Sergio Kindle (OLB 3-4) The Bills will need another linebacker with a switch to a 3-4. Mock Drafts rate Kindle between #'s 38-50.

Pick #49 Selvish Capers (LT) The Bills get a solid LT in the mid second round without having to dish out millions of dollars to a top 10 pick on the disputed second best LT in the draft behind Okung.

The Bills then can address a QB (LeFevour in round #3) and depth in rounds 4-7.

    3. The 49er's with picks #9 and #13 can focus on their most pressing needs QB (Clausen?), OT (Baluga, Williams, or Campbell, or Davis), or they can go with a CB/S, another need.

This is a realistic way of the Bills building through the draft based on biggest needs. And, it makes sense for both the Bills and the 49er's as a likely and reasonable trade partner.

  2. LeFevour's NFL career will resemble Colt Brennan's NFL career

Right on. No to LeFevour especially as a 2nd round pick. I'd take a flier in the 4th or 5th round.

    Bills Defense Should Be:

    CB: McGee

    CB: McKelvin

    FS: Byrd

    SS: Wilson

    LB: Poz

    LB: Mitchell

    LB: McClain (Draft, 1st round)

DE: Schobel (one more year out of him)

    DT: Kyle Williams

DT: (Top DT run stopper in free agency)

    DE: Draft, 3rd Round

    Let Go:

Kelsay, Denney, Whitner, Johnson, and all the scrub players

Keep as Backups: (These five guys)

Bryan Scott (solid backup) and John Wendling (young backup and top ST's tackler), Marcus Stroud for rotational purposes, Drayton Florence (good corner/nickel back). And, no I don't like him, but keep Ellison because we have so little depth at linebacker.

  3. Knowing the Bills philosophy with Buddy Nix now at GM, the Bills obviously won't spend a lot of money or garner interest from the top free agents; however, there are some guys who are potential upgrades in our weakest spots...QB, OL, DL, TE, and LB.

Which two free agents do you think would be the best fit for Buffalo or the most likely to join our team?

QB Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins (28)

New coach and GM. Campbell isn't the long-term solution in Washington, but he is probably a better overall QB talent than anyone currently at the position.

QB Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos (27)

He dinks and dunks...sounds familiar. And, the Broncos did collapse, but Orton has been a starter with a winning record for both the Bears and Broncos.

WR Malcom Floyd, San Chargers (28)

Started in the last six games for Chargers in regular season. He is 6'5. Unlike James Hardy, he has stats to show that he can be a #2 type receiver.

WR Kevin Walter, Houston Texans (29)

A frequently mentioned guy in past board discussions on free agents. He is coming off an injury. He has size and is a #2 or #3 type guy.

TE Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos (27)

He is used primarily for blocking, but he has had some better numbers in the past.

TE Bo Scaife, Tennessee Titans (29)

He isn't flashy or overly athletic...typical Bills type player. But, he makes a lot of short catches and has led the Titans in the past in number of receptions.

RT/OG Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (26)

Has had neck and back problems, but he is a starter for San Diego and often plays LT. He isn't as talented as Jason Peters, but he would come much cheaper He might be a solid RT option.

OL Jahri Evans, New Orleans Saints (27)

Good run-blocker. Buffalo needs to focus more on running the ball with Jackson and using Lynch despite being overrated. He's a natural guard. If we got him, I would put Eric Wood at starting center.

DE Johnny Jolly, Green Bay Packers (27)

His strength is stopping the run, but he isn't much of a pass rusher. He occasionally has lined up as a DT for the Packers.

DE Ray Edwards, Minnesota Vikings (25)

Obviously, when you have the Williams guys and Jared Allen, you will look good. But, Edwards had about 7 sacks this year. He's a good pass rusher and young.

DT Tony Brown, Tennessee Titans (29)

More of a pass rushing DT. He is known for being quick.

LB Kirk Morrison, Oakland Raiders (28)

Yes...he plays for the Raiders which means the LB's get all the tackles because the defensive line doesn't do much, but he plays inside linebacker and has 100+ tackles year in and year out. May be a good if we go 3-4.

LB D’Qwell Jackson, Cleveland Browns (26)

Inside linebacker that is young. He reminds me of a young London Fletcher. Nose on the ball kind of guy.

None of these guys will overwhelm you, but in my opinion, any of these guys would be mid-priced free agents that have shown more production at positions that the Bills need.

    Fire away with thoughts.

    Wizard

  4. It's not. He had a monster game against Texas, but I have watched him on different occasions and he is not a #1 draft pick.

He would be a good fit in Buffalo, but STL will pick a QB, DET will pick a WR (hahaha), and Suh will fall.

I'm glad that you are a GM. Maybe the Bills should hire you to be an assistant to Nix.

Suh is a #1 draft pick, but he is actually worthy of it...

Let me guess.... like Donte Whitner, J.P. Losman, and Aaron Maybin  are all 1st round talents.

  5. I like this game...here is my draft...assuming these players slipping a bit

    Rd 1: Ndamukong Suh DT

    Rd 2: Russell Okung LT

    Rd 3: Brandon Spike MLB

    Rd 4: Joe Haden CB

    Rd 5: Derrick Morgan

    Rd 6: Bryan Bulaga RT

    Rd 7: Dez Bryant WR

Rd 7: (comp pick) Drew Brees QB (*pick traded to NO)

You obviously know nothing about how the draft works. Every one of these players will be gone within the first 40 picks barring a career ending injury between now and the drat. Buffalo would be beyond lucky to grab one of these players in the second round let alone rounds 3-7.

  6. CAN'T TALK WHAT PLAYER FITS THE BILLS TILL WE KNOW WHO THE COACH IS!!!!!! Player and schemes matter with most selections.

Absolutely true; however, McClain (LB from Alabama) would fit in any scheme, and he should be available with our first pick. The Bills then need to only draft OL/DL the rest of the draft!

Seriously...even as bad as Buffalo is at drafting, you have to be bound to get one solid player between rounds 2-7 if you draft the same position over and over.

  7. From Scouts, Inc. "Came into 2009 fall camp overweight and was demoted to the second team for the first week of practice. Also was suspended for the first quarter of the 2009 Army game for being late to a team lunch."

Doesn't sound like weight is as much of a problem for him as last year's Andre Smith. He's the 12th ranked player in this draft according to Scouts Inc and the #3 OT behind Okung and Williams. He would not be a bad pick and even at 9 Buffalo stands to be able to pickup a great player with their 1st pick.

Top 15 prospects per Scouts Inc:

    Eric Berry

    Ndamukong Suh

    Gerald McCoy

    Joe Haden

    Derrick Morgan

    Rolando McClain

    Russell Okung

    Trent Williams

    C.J. Spiller

    Dez Bryant

    Sam Bradford

    Anthony Davis

    Earl Thomas

    Navorro Bowman

    Sergio Kindle

We'll get one of those guys

No thanks! Yes, being late for team meetings and being overweight are minor infractions compared to major legal issues; however, Buffalo can't afford these type of players.

We already have a handful of "character issue guys" that aren't producing. When a team is as bad as the Bills, you go for a player that is the most talented as well as the least amount of baggage possible.

The only guy who possibly might be at #9 that appears to be supertalented and a natural leader is McClain. Yes, I want a stud LT or a top DT but Suh and Okung are gone barring some major injury or major dissappointment at the combine.

McClain is the best pick for #9.

Now, let me trade down, get Anthony Davis and secure another 1st round or 2nd round pick for a DE or second round LB, then I'll consider Davis.

  8. I'm so tired of wasting my time even watching these damn Bills, and coming to this board to post about it.

Yeah, I know, some smart @$$ will write 'then stop writing', but following this team for the past decade has become an experience in the depths of masochism.

I really am not in the least interested in self-flagellation or mutilation, but watching this abysmal team week-in and week-out hurts. I can't help but care because I love the Bills, but how am I being rewarded for supporting this team by Mr. Wilson, Russ 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon, and heckle and jeckle (AKA Modrak and Guy) in the personnel departments?

This team is actually getting worse.

If I was Trent I'd twist my ankle too, to simply save my LIFE from the jailbreak of defenders constantly pouring through the line. How many times did we see #99 of the Patriots look like a star today? That is an extraordinarily sub-par player there, and who is responsible? Once again, Chambers. On one play, Chambers did his best defensive lineman "swim" move, allowing #99 into the backfield and blowing up the play. What Chambers forgot to realize, was that he plays on the OFFENSIVE line (or maybe he does realize it and is just doing a Pro Bowl job of being offensive). The guy sucks.

Then, Scott pulled similar moves a couple of times, allowing defender Banta-Cain- who was at one time on waivers from the Patriots- look like a stud LB and blowing up plays in the backfield.

Van Pelt does not deserve to hold the headset of an offensive coordinator, let alone call plays. That first drive was magic, but then that idiot (was it Gaddis?) was flagged for a false start. on the freakin' 2!!!!! The only other highlight drive was the defensive 3-and-out the Bills forced on the Pats to start the second half.

    Otherwise, this was an embarrassment.

I give Incognito credit, he had a couple of penalties (the block in the back one was a joke), but he played solid for someone coming in with only 2-3 days of practice.

Reed having his head up somewhere dark with 4 minutes to play and dropping that sure TD. Reed fumbling a kick return.

Maybin being offsides ON AN ONSIDE KICK THAT WE RECOVERED!!!

The only Bills players in this game who were worth a damn were 1.) Fred Jackson, 2.) Poz, and 3.) Incognito.

What happened to the 'O' after that first drive? How did they fall apart? Why did they leave the run game?

I'm so sick of this franchise, this ownership, and this inept front office. I really don't know how as a player (especially on defense), they can keep taking the physical pounding that is the NFL game, keep losing, and keep coming back. Say what you want about injuries, but this team is not good enough.

I'm so sick of 'Tampa 2', and its predication on a porous run 'D' and zone coverage that leaves pockets of 10-15 yards for teams like the Patriots and Welker to exploit as they constantly move the chains.

If I was Owens I'd quit. I would not want to be on this team next year. This has got to be THE most pathetic team in the league.

Now the Redskins have Allen. Most likely will get Shanahan as well, despite all of the backtracking. Seattle is rumored and has names it is targeting. Cleveland is close to terms with Holmgren. And what are the Bills doing? Watching the rest of the league correct themselves, while we sit coddling a blanket promising to shake things up and nothing happens?

Brandon, Modrak, and Guy are OUR Vinny Cerrato. They are rot in our organization. Their heads need to roll. If not, I'm done.

three seasons of 7-9. Now 5-11 when Brandon has the nerve to say, after the Cleveland loss, that the front office "did everything in its power" to field a winner. It was a nice try to attempt to distance himself from Jauron, but Brandon is pathetic. Modrak and Guy are proven losers. If Brandon and the front office worked so hard, why has the team REGRESSED? Answer: because Modrak, Guy, and Brandon are not competent.

We have got to get a top notch NFL GM that has built a winner before.

And, despite of all this, you will remain "faithful", and we'll hear from you next week.

  9. Very possibly headed to Washington ...

    http:/ /www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/...han?eref=fromSI

Snyder will pony-up big bucks. Besides, even though Washington is terrible, it too has a large fan base with big cities around it.

I don't think Washington is any better than Buffalo; however, Campbell is a better QB than the two guys the Bills trot out each week.

Too bad! We need a quality head coach, and I don't see anyone else lining up.

  10. "I accept the challenge and pledge to vote for Jairus Byrd at least 31 times per day to get him in the Pro Bowl"

    -Capt. OTM

Love your enthusiasm, and Byrd is very deserving of a Pro Bowl; however, that game doesn't really matter. Additionally, it will raise the value of Byrd's future contract if he is voted in. And, most importantly, those who have jobs and a life outside of the forum are not able to vote 31 times.

  11. I didn't realize he was that highly touted. I was confident he'd fall to us if we had a top ten pick. It doesn't matter though, we can both agree that QB in the 1st round this year will be a HUGE waste of money. I'd like to see the Bills get Max Hall in the 5th-6th round.

Max Hall is a solid college QB, but he isn't a viable option. BYU hasn't produced a NFL ready quarterback since the McMahon and Young days. Note: I'm a graduate of the "Y."

  12. Pick #8:

Buffalo BillsRecord: 5-8 Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Williams moved from the right to the left side this year, and hasn't fared as well as in previous seasons but is capable of quickly developing into an effective NFL starting right tackle. He is a tough run blocker who drives his feet once in position, and he can hold his own in pass protection when his footwork is sound.

Wow, a 5'8 OT. He must be built like a boulder to play OT at that height.

  13. Three things stand out in this football game.

#1. Neither Edwards or Fitzpatrick should ever be allowed to start a game again, so it is time to find out if Brohm can be molded into a decent player or if he is our future backup. Go and get a veteran this offseason. Edwards and Fitzpatrick are done!!!

#2. Yes, we need a QB and an offensive line, but DT is our most needed position. When Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs, the Chiefs, run up 140+ on you, it is time to change the defensive line. We need a DT in round #1 or round #2, no questions!!!

    3. As much as I love the enthusiasm to win games against the Chiefs, why are we trying to win? The goal is to get a higher draft pick.

  14. As much as I would like a QB or OT, the truth is that there isn't a QB worth taking in the first round. And, the only OT worth taking, Okung, will be gone by our spot.

We have the worst rushing defense in the league!!! When Jamaal Charles hangs us for 140+ yards, and the team has had 10 straight 100 yard rushing games against it, then DT is priority #1, OT is priority #2, and a veteran QB is what we need to do in free agancy.

  15. Plus he satisfies the Big Tuna's formula for drafting a QB:

There is no doubt that Bill Parcell's is a good talent evaluator, but name a truly solid quarterback that Parcell's has drafted in the last 10 years that has truly been a great starter.

Bill Parcell's has a proven formula for drafting a QB.

    These are his criteria:

    1. Must be a senior.

    2. Must have started for 3 years, including his senior season.

    3. Must have won 23 games in college

    4. Decent tangibles, like height and arm strength.

Other ones would be Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow.

  16. There was much talk about Buffalo liking Revis.

Besides his character issues, there were warnings about Lynch possibly getting hurt because of some back issues. The back issues haven't surfaced, but as much as I hate to say it, we actually would've really benefited from picking up a secondary player.

  17. In the 2007 draft it was reported at the time that the Bills selection came down to either Darrelle Revis or Marshawn Lynch.

The player personnel staff wanted Revis, Ralph wanted Lynch.

Here is a the analysis that Nolan Nawrocki wrote in Pro Football Weekly the day of the draft in 2007:

    12. Buffalo — RB Marshawn Lynch, California

This was an owner's decision, and like most decisions where owners get involved, a bad one, in my opinion. Lynch is talented, no doubt, but he comes from an inner-city background, much like Willis McGahee, and will struggle to fit into the culture established in Buffalo.

  18. Yeah we do. We are about to get a new GM and HC hopefully one(s) that Ralph is going to pay to dollar for. They need a high draft pick to get the turn around of this Team started. This season is over anyway.

We don't want our draft pick too high, because of Buffalo's propensity to get guys for the wrong positions ala Aaron Maybin, too fat ala Mike Williams, too overrated ala Poz, too sensitive and crappy ala Losman, too scared to throw the ball ala Trent Edwards, too likely to underproduce ala Donte Whitner, or too jumpy to hit a hole ala Marshawn Lynch.

If Buffalo gets a top five (5) pick, I would only be excited if I knew 100% they would get a franchise type player. Otherwise, Buffalo will still be crappy with really bad cap space ala Raiders.

Top 10 pick, yes. Top 5, no thank you.
