  1. Pick #8:

Buffalo BillsRecord: 5-8 Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Williams moved from the right to the left side this year, and hasn't fared as well as in previous seasons but is capable of quickly developing into an effective NFL starting right tackle. He is a tough run blocker who drives his feet once in position, and he can hold his own in pass protection when his footwork is sound.

Wow, a 5'8 OT. He must be built like a boulder to play OT at that height.

  2. Three things stand out in this football game.

#1. Neither Edwards or Fitzpatrick should ever be allowed to start a game again, so it is time to find out if Brohm can be molded into a decent player or if he is our future backup. Go and get a veteran this offseason. Edwards and Fitzpatrick are done!!!

#2. Yes, we need a QB and an offensive line, but DT is our most needed position. When Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs, the Chiefs, run up 140+ on you, it is time to change the defensive line. We need a DT in round #1 or round #2, no questions!!!

    3. As much as I love the enthusiasm to win games against the Chiefs, why are we trying to win? The goal is to get a higher draft pick.

  3. As much as I would like a QB or OT, the truth is that there isn't a QB worth taking in the first round. And, the only OT worth taking, Okung, will be gone by our spot.

We have the worst rushing defense in the league!!! When Jamaal Charles hangs us for 140+ yards, and the team has had 10 straight 100 yard rushing games against it, then DT is priority #1, OT is priority #2, and a veteran QB is what we need to do in free agancy.

  4. Plus he satisfies the Big Tuna's formula for drafting a QB:

There is no doubt that Bill Parcell's is a good talent evaluator, but name a truly solid quarterback that Parcell's has drafted in the last 10 years that has truly been a great starter.

Bill Parcell's has a proven formula for drafting a QB.

    These are his criteria:

    1. Must be a senior.

    2. Must have started for 3 years, including his senior season.

    3. Must have won 23 games in college

    4. Decent tangibles, like height and arm strength.

Other ones would be Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow.

  5. There was much talk about Buffalo liking Revis.

Besides his character issues, there were warnings about Lynch possibly getting hurt because of some back issues. The back issues haven't surfaced, but as much as I hate to say it, we actually would've really benefited from picking up a secondary player.

  6. In the 2007 draft it was reported at the time that the Bills selection came down to either Darrelle Revis or Marshawn Lynch.

The player personnel staff wanted Revis, Ralph wanted Lynch.

Here is a the analysis that Nolan Nawrocki wrote in Pro Football Weekly the day of the draft in 2007:

    12. Buffalo — RB Marshawn Lynch, California

This was an owner's decision, and like most decisions where owners get involved, a bad one, in my opinion. Lynch is talented, no doubt, but he comes from an inner-city background, much like Willis McGahee, and will struggle to fit into the culture established in Buffalo.

  7. Yeah we do. We are about to get a new GM and HC hopefully one(s) that Ralph is going to pay to dollar for. They need a high draft pick to get the turn around of this Team started. This season is over anyway.

We don't want our draft pick too high, because of Buffalo's propensity to get guys for the wrong positions ala Aaron Maybin, too fat ala Mike Williams, too overrated ala Poz, too sensitive and crappy ala Losman, too scared to throw the ball ala Trent Edwards, too likely to underproduce ala Donte Whitner, or too jumpy to hit a hole ala Marshawn Lynch.

If Buffalo gets a top five (5) pick, I would only be excited if I knew 100% they would get a franchise type player. Otherwise, Buffalo will still be crappy with really bad cap space ala Raiders.

Top 10 pick, yes. Top 5, no thank you.

  8. I like the addition of Brian Brohm. Edwards and Fitzpatrick are terrible, and Hamdan wasn't going to ever see the field. I think Buffalo should keep Brohm, find another young player (3 years or less) as another backup, and then get a QB in free agency as a stop gap for two years. Brohm and the other guy the Bills pick up and can then battle for the top spot.

Knowing our luck, Hamdan signs with another team and becomes a legitimate starting QB for Miami.

  9. Other than Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, Jim Kelly, and Jairus Byrd (yes he has already been that good) seeing Dick Jauron go is in the top 5 greatest things to happen in the Bills organization in the last 20 years.

Still, as it has been mentioned on many occasions, firing a coach is simple to do. Replacing a coach that brings a culture of winning is not.

Let's celebrate the firing of Jauron, but this is just a battle that has been won. The real battle is getting a real GM and a real front office.

I'm smiling today, but I won't be celebrating until we hear the GM has been fired, the front office has changed and a winning coach is leading the Bills again.

  10. As much as I would like a new QB, there isn't one that has solid starter written on him. Let's look at OT, and DT first, then let's look at QB. Yes, I don't think Trent is the long-term answer for Buffalo, but I don't see anyone in this QB class that would be ready to supplant Edwards immediately. Therefore, look at a QB in round #3 to compete with Trent. If the 2010 season shows no improvement with Edwards, then you look at QB in round #1 in 2011.

  11. This is obviously a stat that has been plaguing this team for a pretty long time now. Many analysts, coaches, and players believe that in order to win in this league, you need to be able to establish the pass first. Not the traditional "establish the run" first. So far teams that have passed for 300+ yards this season have a 23-8 record. Looks like we need to figure this out if we want to start winning...

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12367682

And, the question now is...has Trent Edwards ever thrown for 300 yards in any game in his career in the NFL.

  12. Nebraska is not a great team; however, the one guy that all the college experts has been talking about is a complete beast (Suh, #93). He is a defensive end that also occasionally lines up in the DT spot. This guy is a top 5 pick barring some injury, record, or work ethic issues. He was all over the place! The guy tracked a running back down a few yards after knocking the guy blocking him out of the way.

I know we drafted Maybin with the first pick last year, but Maybin will never be a great player in this league. Suh will. He plays strong run and pass defense. This is the guy we should be drafting if we have a top 5 pick.

Bank it. You heard it hear first.

  13. I'm not from Buffalo nor have I ever visited. I hear talk show hosts talk incessantly about what an economically depressed city Buffalo is. I also hear it has no nightlife.

Being a Bills fan from the West Coast, I always thought it was ESPN dudes ripping on small towns because ESPN and large sports networks are generally housed near larger cities like New York City and Boston. However, I'm calling out Bills Fans in Buffalo.

Trashing a players lawn! Stealing 400K worth of jewelry from a player's house! And, now stealing the day after it is put up, a 8 ft statue made by a local resident of hall of famer, Thurman Thomas. :(

Sorry local fans, but that's trash!!!

If the Bills are ever going to receive any credibility, fans have a responsibility just as much as the Bills management and players have to making our team look good.

For those that are Bills locals, please set an example. We are the worst football city in the United States, and its not just the team.

And, this is saying a lot considering I live in Nevada!

STEP IT UP BILLS FAN FROM BUFFALO!

  14. Born and raised in northern california. No ties to buffalo whatsoever. Became a football fan at a young age, watching the Jim Kelly led bills. I now have season tickets to the bills (still live in CA). I fly to buffalo at least three times a year and generally hit two road games. I even went as far as buying a house in Buffalo.

I've missed one game on TV or in person in the last 10 years. This team has given me heartbreaking loss after heartbreaking loss and yet I still wipe the slate every Sunday, throw on my bills jersey and root for them like we're playing for the superbowl. Call it blind alligence or just faith. Regardless of how crappy the team is, I still appreciate everything this team stands for and everything they mean to the community of buffalo.

The long suffering fans will one day be vindicated.

That's ridiculous dedication! I'm from Northern Sacramento, and I haven't found a reason in the last 10 years to fly to Buffalo for a loss!

  15. Buffalo is one of worst five teams in the league. Their four losses illustrate a few valuable points.

    1) can't put away a team in the last 5 minutes of a game with a double-digit lead.

    2) lose by 20 to a great team and have no second half success

    3) Get blown out by 28 against a bottom feeder team in the AFC

    4) Lose to the Cleveland Browns, worst rush defense in the league and not score a TD.

There are only 3 teams for sure worse than Buffalo in no particular order, Oakland, Tampa Bay and St. Louis; otherwise, Buffalo can join the conversation with teams like Kansas City, Cleveland, Carolina and the other bottom feeders.

NAME 5 TEAMS WORSE THAN BUFFALO. I can see maybe 4, but not 5. Be sure to share why.

Note: It's officially time to hit the "eject" button. Get rid of Jauron, management and half the team!

  16. It's time to begin New Year's Resolutions that won't last and ask for unrealistic presents that come from Santa Claus.

    I know it's early, but I'll start.

    Dear Santa,

Please let me hear words something like this in the next 6-7 months, "the Bills select, Colt McCoy, QB from the University of Texas."

P.S. Here are a few stocking stuffers to consider.

A new head coach, a real LT, a non-white TE, a #2 receiver, a #1 receiver that doesn't disappear in games, a center, not a backup from a non-playoff team, no drug, abuse, or weapon charges from any current players, a DE with speed, a middle linebacker that doesn't break arms, did I mention a new head coach?

I'd also like a winning attitude, a GM who actually knows something about football, an owner under 100 years of age, and it would be helpful if the media members were not "homers" and actually reported the true state of the team.

Bytheway, since I'm asking a lot already, please consider bringing world peace. After all, I'm only asking for a few miracles, Santa!

    --Bills Fan

  17. TO has dropped passes, just had his 185 game reception streak snapped, outside of Fred Jackson, the Bills offense has been anemic. This week, that all changes. Both TO and TE are going to be coming out with a purpose. TO because he hasn't done anything and TE because he quickly went from looking great to being bench fodder. My predicition - TO goes 8-175 and 3 TDs - he finally shows up for what he expected to do. Bills go into Miami and blow them out 42-7.

This is 2009. And, have you forgotten who our quarterback is, who our coach is, and what type of offensive line we have?

T.O. catches 3 passes for 41 yards, and 1 TD.

  18. First play of the game.

Buffalo is on defense. Ronnie Brown makes a run of 5 yards. Of course, since the Bills can't ever get any pressure on the quarterback, the tackle is made by Keith Ellison.

Don't get too excited. There is a reason why Ellison is a top tackler in the league. Crappy teams usually have linebackers and safeties leading a team in tackles. This is because crappy defenses are reactive to what an offense does and not proactive.

Miami gets a field goal on their first drive.

    Miami wins the game 20-17.

  19. I'm on record as saying I didn't like the signing from the get-go, but I will admit, he's taken the moral high-ground and being a good soldier and not letting the media goad him into saying something that will draw the headlines. Good for him! Sure he's giving milquetoast answers, but he's got reason to.

    1. he needs to look to the future and what team will sign him next year.

    2. he gains nothing by ranting and raving about an offensive game plan that is about as diverse as your average Section VI HS team.

    3. if he gives the media what they want he gets nothing but "typical TO" stories written about him

    4. It's a long arduous season and face it, he's probably here for the duration so what does he gain by blowing up the lockeroom in week three?

    5. He can get his frustration out once he leaves here

I'm right with you, Bullpen. I know saying that "T.O. acted like a class-act" may sound funny to us as a result of our view of him from previous actions and media portrayals, but T.O. acted with as much dignity and professionalism as possible could be done with a reporter seeking to tick him off.

I applaud Terrell Owens for both his skills as well as his handling of a unbelievable rough situation. <_<

The truth is we have an undependable offense. We have a decent defense that just can't hang with top 10 teams in the 4th quarter. This has been proven by New England and New Orleans. The reason is simple. First, great coaching means great fourth quarter teams. Second, great conditioning leads to great fourth quarter teams. Third, teams with a winning tradition and mindset win in the fourth quarter.

This is what separates average teams from outstanding teams. Buffalo is average because there is not great coaching, conditioning, or a winning culture/attitude infused in the locker room.

    That's why Buffalo loses.

    Fire Jauron!

  20. I like Johnson as much as anyone else, to a certain point, but if he can't beat out Roscoe to get on the field that's his own fault. If he was THAT good he would be on the field regardless of who was in front of him on the depth chart initially. People need to be realistic with their expectations for this guy. We've had this arguement over, and over, and over, and over again. Which one of his ten whole receptions last season, or his six whole catches in preseason, make you believe that he is that much of an asset? He does need to be on the field to progress, but he obviously isn't showing enough in practice to beat out the guys we already have playing right now. Get over it. If he's good enough, he'll be out there when he proves it.
    o

Thank you! The only sensible comment about Steve Johnson.
