  1. I love kyle williams. He is a force in the tampa 2. Too small to play NT, and not fast enough to play DE. I think the Colts could realy use him and were willing to part with a 4th (?) for McCargo back in '08. This would be a very important piece of the defensive puzzle for the Colts and a fair trade if we swap a few latter round picks. Williams, our 3rd and a 6th for Colts 1st and third. Colts get a great player for their system, and we get an excellent draft pick to use on a NT or maybe LB.

    Dude,

I don't mean to be cynical or rude, but Kyle Williams is not worth a 1st round pick in a trade. The Colts aren't going to part with a 1st and 3rd for a higher round 3 and a 6th round pick.

I wish it were so, but there are only a small percentage of players that a team would trade a 1st round pick for now, and Kyle Williams isn't one of them. Yes, he's talented and he no longer fits the Bills 4-3 defense, but I'd be ecstastic if a team gave us a 3rd for Williams.

    That is much more realistic

  2. I know that Andy Reid has been the one putting the breaks on any McNabb trade talk and will probably continue to do so until after the Draft. I dont think he moves for awhile, if at all.

I like your suggested picks of Bulaga (1st), Troup (3rd) and Calloway (4th), but say no to Tebow in the 3rd. I'd rather get Cam Thomas (NT) and/or the best available OLB/ILB with the 2nd and/or get McNabb for a 2nd, 5th and 6th plus Marshawn Lynch.

  3. Suits me just fine, too.. I see no reason for mediocre at best starting WRs making an average salary of $7MM/season. (See: Antonio Bryant/contract)

The only thing worse than a mediocre wide receiver making $7 million per year is an above mediocre player making $9 million a year without a quarterback.

  4. I know he is 31, But I think he could bring some help here at the WR position, and likely wouldnt break the bank. He is not the Javon Walker of 5 years ago, but wouldnt hurt this offense having him around. He had worse QBs in Oakland than we had in Buffalo.

    Thoughts?

Character issues...Check. Injury prone...Check. Not a hard worker...Check. Has played for crappy quarterbacks recently...Check.

WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED HIM YET! :P

  5. Lets offer Philly that we swap our frist rounders for McNabb

We then draft Charles Brown, OT, USC with Philly's 24th pick

Then use our second to draft Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama

then our third on Sean Lee, ILB, Penn State or Tyson Alualu, DT, California

    Just a pipe dream

Charled Brown played for USC. So far, I haven't seen to many USC players other than Cushing make a real impact the past 5-6 years, so pass on him. Cody is fine in the 2nd. No thanks to Sean Lee. He comes from another program that hasn't been producing stars either. Sure, he tackles well, but he is a poorer man's version of POZ.

I don't Philadephia would be interested, but I appreciate your thought.

  6. Donte Whitner never stops impressing after saying on www.buffalobills.com that Tim Tebow will win a SuperBowl.

Because Donte Whitner by far is the best secondary player to ever play for Buffalo and has made huge play after huge play for the Bills, I'm taking him at his word. :censored:

We will even go to Canada to watch our team lose. We will continue to write on Buffalo Bills Forums and hope the team doesn't sign slow-footed defenders or players who don't know how to run routes. We will forever hate the Cowboys and any team that has won a championship. We love players like Steve Tasker and Don Beebe because they represent the common man of Buffalo. We have a love/hate relationship with Scott Norwood. We will withstand the hypothermia of frigid weather to cheer our team on. But, deep-down inside we know that the Bills will never win a championship, just like we hope and wish our Federal Goverment was truly interested in our lives, but they are not." Bills Fan

    My quote:

"Tim Tebow will win a SuperBowl as a backup for a team that has won the SuperBowl in the last 30 years already."

  7. He is not ready to start, as he played on the spread at NU, but I think eventually he could be a very solid starter.

Uh...I played high school ball in California. That is about the same level as the spread at NU, so I think I could eventually be a solid starter!

Who votes that freester should have to take a month off the forum for such a pointless statement?

    One vote so far!

  8. If the Bills are either going to be stupid and not draft a LT or NT, then they better get Spiller. His value is much higher than Clausen's.

The only people worth the #9 pick as well as meet Buffalo's needs are as follows:

Suh, McCoy, Bradford, Okung, Bulaga, and maybe (McClain).

If all of these guys are gone at #9, then Buffalo needs to trade down to still get a top 5-6 OT and a top 5-6 DT.

  9. With the Titans signing Will Witherspoon it looks like Bulluck's days in Tennessee are over. I know he's coming off a knee injury, but he's a veteran that could be brought into to provide depth at linebacker. What does everyone think of Bulluck?

Depth? Depth? Is Bulluck playing behind Lawerence Taylor, Mike Singletary, and Derrick Thomas?

Keith Bulluck has done more than Mitchell, POZ, and this little band of Bills LB's combined.

Yes...he is coming off of an injury and is on the down-side of his career, but Bulluck isn't going to come to Buffalo to back up Keith Ellison!!!

  10. Buddy Nix,

Imagine how much better Buffalo would if Buffalo could get this reasonably priced free agents as well as legitimate shots to land in Buffalo. And, Buffalo would still have its Rounds 1-3 picks and its two 6th's and two 7th's.

    Round #1

    Bryan Bulaga (OT)

    Round #2

    Cam Thomas (NT)

    Round #3

    Best 3-4 linebacker available

    Trade Round 4 & 5 Picks

    • RFA Guard (Rob Sims) age 26 for 4th round draft pick ( a starting guard to man Wood's position until he's healthy and/or to allow Wood to eventually replace Hangartner at center)
    • RFA Quarterback (Troy Smith) age 26 for 5th round pick (better than Edwards and Fitzpatrick and a solid option to develop or serve as a placeholder until we get the right guy)

Free Agents with no compensation tags

    • Red Hadnot, Guard 28 years old (solid depth or spot starter)
    • Kevin Mawae, Center 39 (great veteran a great tutor for Wood and o-line)
    • Derrick Burgess, DE/OLB in 3-4, 32 (solid starter with mid range price tag)
    • Dwan Edwards, DT/DE, 29 in 3-4 for Ravens (solid run stopper)
    • Jake Delhomme, QB, 35 (he's basically done but he would be good for Troy Smith or anyone we have as a #2, plus he can take the beating while we keep looking for QB)
    • Domenik Hixon, WR, age 25, Giants (played well and no compensation)
    • Kevin Walter, Texans, 29 (solid slot receiver with 51 catches in 09)

    Rounds 6-7 Draft

With four (4) picks the Bills just need to build depth and hope that 1/4 of these guys turns into something worthy of a backup or average starter. I would get a WR, another OT, a DE, and another LB.

This is how you build through the draft and fill in spots with average talent without breaking the bank.

    Get er done!

  11. Do you work for Russ Lande?

    Marketing should be your profession.

I am a long-time draft fanatic and I find SportingNews' WarRoom to be one of the most credible scouting

services around (I also like Pro Football Weekly's Nolan Nawrocki).

WarRoom is run by Russ Lande who actually worked in the NFL as a scout for the Rams (and I think the

Browns, too). Now, I know that there are good and bad scouts in the NFL, but Lande at least knows how

to study tape, knows what NFL types are looking for in players and likely has some contacts in the league

also. He also isn't afraid to express a bold opinion. For instance, he isn't down on board-favorite Rolando

McClain, but he does go against the "common opinion" in thinking that he isn't a high number 1 pick.

FWIW, Lande was not that high on Aaron Maybin last year when many others were touting him as the best

pass rusher in the draft. To be fair, we can't write Maybin off after one year that would have been his

Junior season in college, but so far Lande looks to have been spot-on.

Another fwiw, Lande publishes his own draft guide (GMJr) in addition to working for SportingNews. Lande's

guide is BY FAR the most detailed of any that I've seen over the past 25 years of following the draft. For

$20 it is really worth-while if you are into the draft.

  12. If the 49ers want to move up to get him, perhaps Nix is considering trading down and picking up extra picks in the process?

Bills trade #9 to 49er's to grab Spiller. Bills receive #17 and second round pick. Let's do it.

If Gailey and Nix are as good as their past records indicate, maybe we can grab three reliable starters with the extra pick.

  13. This isn't even a debate. Bulaga is overall the better prospect.

  14. meh.

No. Thanks. Don't we have a guy named Ellis on our team. All I remember is that when he was drafted he had an "explosive" first step. He's so explosive I don't even know if this 3rd round pick has even taken a snap in his two seasons.

There is no way we can have two guys with the last name Ellis on our team.

  15. Hypothetical:

Let's say you had the first 27 picks in the draft and can rebuild this team. Keep only 26 current players from last year's team. No trades because there isn't a real veteran that would love to come to the Bills. Rookies aren't interested either, but they don't have much of a choice.

Bolded are my 27 draft picks. Some of these players aren't considered first rounders, but the majority of them are.

If the Bills had a team like this (or very similiar), how long before the Bills could be competing for a spot in th AFC Championship?

  16. Now Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones are going to model their franchises around the Yankees and Red Sox, and lots and lots of teams (the Bills included) will be left in the dust.

The Bills would be left in the dust regardless of payroll rules. Good teams get good players at competitive but reasonable rates. Crappy teams overpay for less quality free agents (Lee Evans $9 million per year, Dockery $7 million per year). Crappy teams who don't mind or can afford overspending

for players make hardly a difference (Albert Haynesworth monster contract).

The truth is...the Yankees and Red Sox have a lot of money, but they also are great places to play. The fan base is strong. The media base is strong. There is rich history. The club invests in scouting and player development. These clubs are smart and do what it takes to win. The Yankees and Red Sox will always be "winners" and leave other teams in the dust if this remains their modes of operation.

Don't hate the Colts, Steelers, and Patriots for being smarter than the competition. Regardless of the what the salary cap rules may be this year or next year, these teams will continue to be successful because of their organization's foundations.

In all honesty, the Bills could double their payroll right now and it wouldn't make a huge difference (maybe 2 games). The only way Buffalo will compete if it has a winning philosophy and mentality. This hasn't been with this club since the early 1990's. Yes, the fans are passionate, but the owners, leaders, coaches, and players, and scouting hasn't been.

Until a championship caliber team is built to be a playoff contender year-in and year-out or until new ownership comes in, it doesn't matter what the Bills spend. Good teams remain good teams and crappy teams remain crappy teams.

It's just the way it is....

  17. Several problems....

Why would L.T. come to Buffalo? Yes, he still wants to play, but he wants to play for a contender. Don't get me wrong but there is a HUGE difference between being a San Diego Charger and a Buffalo Bill. The Chargers are a better team, nicer city, better weather and nightlife. I think L.T. would look past those things if this were the 1988-1993 Bills.

Expect him to go to the usually talented teams or a place with great weather...i.e. Miami.

  18. He might be there, but I haven't heard his name on here once. Would it be crazy to take him at 9 or are people really content with Evans/Johnson/Hardy/Parrish as our wideouts? I know we have other needs but we can assume we'll fill some of them via free agency, trade and maybe the 2nd round. Just throwing it out there. I think he's in the mold of Calvin Johnson and Michael Crabtree.

No. I'm not comfortable with Evans/Johnson/Hardy/Parrish as wideouts, but I'm even less comfortable with our O-Line, D-Line, and Quarterback situation.

Is Dez Bryant talented? Yes, but he isn't a fit into Buffalo. In many ways, he reminds me of Marshawn Lynch. He's extremely talented, but he hasn't shown a lot of maturity. We have had too many of those type of players. Now, if Buffalo is 12-4, has great solid veteran leadership, and Dez Bryant is available at #9, then you take him. He should be a great NFL player, but he would likely sour in Buffalo with its poor history the last 10 years, a lack of leadership from the team, and no quarterback or offensive line.

O-Line, D-Line, or McClain is our best bet with a round #1 pick. Otherwise, the only other good option is to get McNabb or some veteran and take Bradford or Clausen, if available, to be the starter in 2 years.
