  1. TROLL! If Lee is a #2 there are about 8 #1's in the entire league. If you agree with that then by those standards I accept your statement.
  2. All we can do is rely on what we can glean from the politically correct statements of the likes of Jim Kelly, Terrell Owens and Lee Evans. They have all intimated that Trent is not taking the shots when they are called. True enough we don't often see the wide angle shot to see whether the WR aren't open OR IF THEY ARE and Trent just is Rob Johnson v2.0. When I am at the game however I can say I have seen WR's come open before the ball is thrown or the QB is in his throwing motion. Most of the problem is that at the NFL level a QB has to anticipate his WR being open and throw the ball before or when he makes his break. Trent does not do this. It's really quite simple. Look at most of the completions you DO see Trent make. His WR has run either a hook pattern or an out and the WR has no one within 4+ of him. There was one replay I did see of the game on Sunday. You could tell Trent was methodically taking his time going through his progressions while Lee was wide open. By the time Trent got his head and more importantly eyes around the defense caved in on Edwards for no run after catch. Good NFL QBs read the defense and will go to the best option not just methodically go through his progressions if he sees a guy is going to get open. Anyhow, the point of the thread is that Evans is very productive with mediocre to bad talent at QB but Edwards is a whole other animal of bad in the TD department as far as getting production out of Lee. Awesome points. I have seen for years other teams make good gains with passes to the RB in the flat. Problem with Trent is that he doesn't anticpate who the best options is before or shortly after the snap. By the time he gets around to checking down to the RB the defense has collapsed and the RB has no chance for run after catch. No prob. I was hoping I found another site for good stat break down. Stats are definitely not the whole story but when properly used they can tell you a whole lot or at least give you a lot to think about. On the money. Lee Evans is a Porsche of a resource that is being wasted driving to the grocery store Not saying his is the best out there by any means but he is a play maker if we use him.
  3. I took a look at that drive again as it is still on my DVR. Did anyone realize they went to the no huddle and basically forced the defense to stay in a base set? Yep, you got it. Trent's success and the teams success in preseason was also against vanilla base sets. Apparently Trent has no ability to read REAL in season defenses. He can't make quick enough decisions to throw in 3 sec or less. He cannot process information quickly enough when the bullets start flying and the defenses don't keep it simple for him. This is also likely a problem for the entire team as well as the offensive line that lets blitzers come free when Trent doesn't have the presence to shift his protection or audible to a better play.
  4. This topic was already started in another thread and it included a quote from sullivan clearly stating how negatively Trent Edwards impacts Lee's numbers. Matter of fact I think you posted in the other thread. The guys you list as better are a complete joke. Some haven't done a darn thing in the NFL yet. Stop the anti Lee crusade. He his one of the actual bright spots on this team and you negative whiners are always trying to find something wrong!!!!
  5. Do you have any of the details to the stats your offering as fact? I am curious how you found stats on points just scored by the offense as opposed to points scored by the team which include special teams and defensive scores. I'm always on the look out for good sources of information to data mine for trends and "truths" that may shake out of the numbers. I suspect you may actually be using team scoring as opposed to just offensive scoring. Not that it is a relevant comparison to a single WRs performance as it relates to one particular QB being the starter or not. Even if the "real" numbers support your claim the success of the team is not the focus of this post. The point is that the bogus claim that Lee Evans isn't a number #1 WR as an excuse for Trent's poor performance is completely unfounded. He has had basically that with every QB that wasn't named Trent Edwards. This incredible thing is he has done it almost exclusively with guys that wouldn't even be #3's on any other team. You do realize that Edwards has been playing for 8 years plus and that one year with a again QB at the end of his career isn't going to skew the numbers to the point where your statement holds water? As I just mentioned in a previous reply he did this without a legit #2 opposite him almost every year. Get a grip man. The guy is solid and would have been MONEY if he hadn't had the misfortune of being drafted by the bills. I would really like to see the 19 WR you rank above Lee Evans and also include the guy that throws them the rock....or doesn't throw him the rock in Lee's case. Outstanding observation. I began calling Edwards Rob Johnson v2.0 in another thread. Whose talking about jump balls? I just want Trent to throw Lee the ball like every other QB Lee has played with that had him scoring almost a TD every other game. Who cares about jump balls? Hit him when he is open like all the other QBs did. I agree other than Lee basically hasn't had any good games with Trent at the helm.
  6. I would start Langston Walker at RT and Jason Peters at LT. Peters is obvious for the non hater but Langston Walker was light years ahead of Green.
  7. Preposterous. The why doesn't matter one wit. Stinking out loud is the result!
  8. "In the 33 games with Edwards at quarterback, Evans has 105 catches for 1,560 yards and seven touchdowns. In 69 games with other QBs, he has 235 catches for 3,796 yards and 32 TDs. Draw your own conclusions." Jerry Sullivan - Buffalo News http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/columns/jerry-sullivan/article189585.ece Folks look at what that boils down to: With Edwards 1 TD every 4.71 games Without Edwards 1 TD every 2.16 games That means no matter WHO else the QB is, Evans scores TDs at more than twice the rate he does with Rob Johnson v.20. Evans puts up #1 numbers when he has a competent QB. I say "competent" because the other guys Evans has played with were not all stars unless you think Losman, Holcomb, Fitzpatrick and Brohm were PROBOWLERS. Problem is Edwards sucks more than twice as bad when it comes to scoring TDs with Evans. Please, please, please put this one to rest as Evans gets the job done with even the most run of the mill QBs around. Don't blame Trent's lack of success on #83.
  9. If you read between the lines last year and early this year. They call plays down the field. Edwards won't throw the ball unless the WR is wide open. Hence, his Captain Checkdown moniker.
  10. We didn't get blown out because Miami sucked just a little bit less than we did that game. Their grade for the game was a Solid D.
  11. I started a similar post but I think yours predates mine. It is a panic statement of a sort but signing these two guys would go a LONG way towards making us a better team today and for the next few years. Screw the draft picks. These guys are SOLID SOLID players at two positions of need. Now if we could only get Phillip Rivers to come with them
  12. View Postlets_go_bills, on 12 September 2010 - 11:16 PM, said: YOU rewatch the game and notice how Trent is pressured all day. Notice Miami rushing four and STILL sacking Trent. That was Bell's man who got the sack too. Notice Trent taking hits everywhere. Notice the pocket collapsing right away. Notice how many defenders got a free run at Trent. Notice how he was running for his life. Notice how he had NO time to throw, he never had a pocket to step up into, he never had time to let the routes develop, he never had time to let his receivers get open. Also notice how few rushing yards we had. That line sucked as a whole. I mean no offence to you sir, but you're being naive. The line sucked. Big time. You're way off. You hit the nail on the head. Three issues about the pressure that Trent faced. 1) Question: When Trent did experience that pressure, how often was it about 3 seconds or later after the snap of the ball? 2) Statement: No NFL quarter back it going to ever play this game without pressure. The competent ones know how to handle it and be productive. 3) Questions: What can we do to improve the offensive line this year? (Pretty much nothing) What can we do to improve the QB position? (Play one of our QBs who makes quicker decisions, throws down field and has maneuverability)
  13. That drive looked good. I had mixed feelings about it though. There were two keys to that drive. Trent threw the ball quickly....and Parrish was wide open on busted coverage. In the regular season if a WR isn't wide open Trent won't throw a catch-able ball. I feel terrible for saying it but I also felt bad about that drive because it gave the Trent appologists something to cling to. Every once in a while Trent actually looks like an NFL QB and has a decent throw or decent drive. They cling to these plays that are as rare as the planets aligning and think that Trent is a diamond that just needs to be polished. If Trent hadn't had that drive and ended the game at a 50% completion rate with 80 yards even the most delusional supported would have had to admit he sucked. More importantly the coaches would have seen the truest of Trent's colors and started working on plan B. Plan B being preparing anyone but Trent to take over in a moments notice.
  14. In my opinion these points are 1000% accurate. Every one of them. I almost went hoarse watching the game yelling "throw the ball", "throw the ball". Instead of throwing with his feet set at 3 sec after snap or stepping UP in the pocket, Trent would scramble to his right and then throw a lame duck with a defender draped around his ankles. To be fair the part that you are missing, imo, is that the line didn't play well either. Not nearly as bad as Edwards but not good. Their run blocking was definitely worse than their pass protection. With our 3 backs you can't get anything going on the ground? *sheesh* Anyhow, you'll never convince these Edwards supporters that he sucks. They are too thick headed. Thirty years from now they will still be saying it was the concussion or Jauron that held him back and that's why he held a clip board for a couple of years and was out of the NFL. Trent has 3 seconds to throw the ball. He knows it. The fans know it and the defense knows it. If he takes longer than that to get rid of it....IT'S HIS FAULT. Rob Johnson #2 anyone?
  15. I guess you're just giving up on this season. Good thing we spent those high picks on guards last year. Now if we could just move them to tackle to cover the pressure coming from the outside and seal an edge to get a RB a whole to run through. *sigh*
  16. Buffalo should do whatever it takes to get this guy from the Chargers. Buddy used to work in San Deigo for christ sake. GET ER DONE BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! See if we can get Phillip Rivers and Vincent Jackson while you're at it.
  17. Buffalo should do whatever it takes to get this guy from the Chargers. Buddy used to work in San Deigo for christ sake. GET ER DONE BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! See if we can get Phillip Rivers and Vincent Jackson while you're at it.
  18. If it wasn't obvious before over the last 3 years I am not only the president, I am a member. The con man got the starting job again and as usual showed his true colors when the bullets started flying. The checkdown chump is at it again. He tries to take take 5 seconds when he only has 2.5. He tries to run when he knows he can't. Don't be a wus. Thrown an incompletion at 2.5 seconds instead of an incompletion at 5 sec with a defender around your legs. LOSER!!!!!
  19. Same old Trent. Somehow the con man got the starting job again and showed his true colors when the bullets started flying. Check down city! After 3 years why does he hold the ball for 5 seconds when he knows he has 2.5. He knows he can't out run the defense but instead of staying in the pocket and making a quick decision he runs runs like a scared you know what. He is Rob Johnson without the wheels or the arm. Same old defensive game plan for the last five years beat us again. Force Trent to win the game which they know he can't. As I said our season depends on him and again we have learned we can't depend on him.
  20. same old Trent. We should stick with him!
  21. I like the show but it was typical LAZY media analysis. We haven't done the right things in the off season and Edwards is still our QB so we must suck. Nobody is looking at the things we have improved on this team like coaching, talent level, utilization of unused play makers, hopefully health, strength and conditioning etc. If they bothered to take the time to analyze the things that we have improved they would see the potential for a team that was equal to the performance of last years team with a more exciting higher upside. I used to complain about this sort of thing with good reason but eventually I learned you have to prove it on the field. If the Bills look good again, not that bogus 5 - 0 start against sub .500, non 3 - 4 defense teams 2 years ago, the "experts" will all be surprised and wonder where the Bills came from. If we don't we will have proved them right again.
  22. Everyone!!! Seriously. Let the secondary play man and bring everyone else. Run blitz the QB every play. YES. I said RUN blitz the QB every play. On your way to the signal caller if you see the RB ...knock him on his ass. If he has the ball, tackle for a loss. If he doesn't, you disrupted a pass pattern.
  23. Damn it Promo! You jinxed us!!!...LOL...Just kidding ....go Bills.
  24. Trent is going to need to pass for 225. If he doesn't it will mean he is playing checkdown ball. If he plays checkdown ball we are likely doomed. When the defense doesn't have to worry about anything beyond 15 yards from the line of scrimmage they will pack it in on you and get stingy REAL quick. If you project Trent's stats from each of the individual preseason games for entire games, he would have thrown for 225+ yards each contest. That kind of production HAS to continue to see the same success on offense hence my number above needed to beat Miami. I believe we will be a running team that will pass when it is to our advantage to keep the defense honest. Play action. Slant routes. Quick screens. Shallow crossing routes. Throwing deep and letting your #1 WR make a play for you!!! Now we are calling some big boy plays. The run game and the threat of Spiller will afford us those opportunities in the pass game and we HAVE to capitalize on them.
  25. It is lazy journalism. Everyone thinks the Bills will stink. The reality of the situation is coaching changes, another year of experience gained, new and old play makers being involved in the offense and better health is going to make this a much better team. A better team than the team that went 6 - 10 through the incredibly tumultuous previous season. That being said the Bills need to PROVE IT on the field. Although lazy, can you really blame a non Bills fan for expecting that it will be the same old same old second rate product???? After looking at things and getting past my initial concerns through the draft, OTAs, and training camp I think the season comes down to three things. 1) Trent Edwards must play like a starting NFL QB. So far he has looked competent. I am one of the HARSHEST skeptics but so far so good. Let's see if he can keep it up when the bullets start flying. 2) The defense must make the transition to a 3 - 4 and they need to be one of teams that does it quickly and in less than 1 seasons time. There are precedents for quick turnarounds like the Packers. Hopefully we can generate some pass rush with some inventive play calling or by bringing the house and letting the secondary play man. 3) Special Teams which was an unquestioned strength has not looked up to snuff. I'm not sure how we could have fallen so quickly with what I assume is mostly the same cast of players. The new old coach needs to get the third phase of the game going. We have incredibly dynamic return men and a good day from them can make the difference in winning or losing.
