  1. I'd like Matthews.......not sure he will be around that long...ya never know I guess.

I like your draft. Don't see some of your players such as MAtthews and Romeous lasting that long, but if they do and we get them they will provide an instant spark for our D. Another option instead of Romeous if he's gone is Sherad from Pitt.

  2. Yup, we dismissed Peterson talking in the Von Miller potential thread. Jeff Fuller (#8) dominated him in the Cotton Bowl. We need someone who can stop the run and put pressure on the QB. Pray that Carolina and Denver do not pick Fairley, otherwise, Marcell Dareus should be the choice at #3.

Am I mistaken, or is Dareus like Maybin in that he only had 1-2 good college seasons. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I get. Picking him could be a giant mistake.

Most of the posts on this board seem to indicate that people think the Bills are one or two players away from being competitive which is just not true. The Bills are broken and they need talent to get fixed. This #3 pick isn't for next year or even for 2012, this pick is about building a competitive team for the future. I tell you, if Peterson's the guy, I'll watch in 3 years with a big smile on my face as he shuts down the pass. If they go DL, I'll watch with a big smile too. Bottom line is we need talent, something we've been sorely lacking for the past 10 years. It doesn't matter the position, they just need to hit on a few of these picks.

Well said. Take the top talent. Although, if Fariley is gone, I'd even consider Von Miller at #3, even though that's too high for him based on the mocks i've seen (late 1st round).

  3. Gotcha. I got confused. But, totally just my brain not functioning.

Given that Luck was perhaps the only "sure thing" QB, and there may only be one "sure thing" DE/DT that's selected at 1or 2, I think this would be a great year to trade down a few slots and still get a top notch player and a few extra picks. So, I'd be all for it.

Of course, I must qualify my opinion by stating that I have almost no understanding of who exactly is considered the best players in this draft, other than what I read here.

I like your thinking. If Fairley is gone, and Jones would give us #9 and his second and third (or fourth) I'd be all for it.

  4. Fairley. Newton has missed two easy TD passes, Fairley has been all over the field all game. Not even close. Newton has also had the benefit all season of a very dominant O-line, he won't have that here. No one should take Netwon in the first round, and he should give his Heisman to Luck. That said, I'll be surprised if Fairley is available when we pick.

  5. My general thinking is htat you're as good as your worst DB on the field, not your best. Most teams have two good WRs to beat you with, so closing off one side of the field might leave you vulnerable on the other side if you blew your budget on a single star CB. That's why I'm wary of superdollar CBs like Asomugah.

I agree. Plus, lets spend the cash on D line, O line, OLB or safety.

  6. Poz has weaknesses which are extremely evident with the crap he is surrounded with. He isnt fast enough to pursue all the way to the sideline but if our end or OLBS could turn a play inside like they are supposed to then he would be stuffing people and everyone would be saying how good he is. Dont blame Poz for other peoples mistakes.

He also shouldnt be our top cover LB but he is because of how terrible our roster is.

You are 100% right. He gets blown off the run due to our weak D-line, and a MLB should NEVER be covering a TE. That's what OLB's and even FS's are for. If you want to see how it's done, watch the Steelers D, where people actually can play in position. Poz is all over the field covering for people's mistakes. If he is assigned to cover someone on a pass, then our D coordinator is terrible.

  7. What if Denver and Carolina are happy with the qbs they got this year, what if for some reason they don't/can't find trades better than guys they want more. What if Luck falls to the Bills (talking about Lucky)? What if Fitz has a top 5 year next year (his contract year) and Luck has not proven anything because he is sitting.....

Didn't this happen in San Diego w/ Brees and Rivers. SD drafts Rivers. Brees had carrear year, got traded. Both teams ended up ok in the end w/ great QB's.

  8. I'm sure we'll get into this more in the off season. but is there any evidence that sitting helps a quarterback improve more than playing? I mean actual evidence, not anecdotal stuff. I'd even take a strong logical argument.

I think it depends on the team around the QB. If you have a weak team like buffalo (bad O line, problems at WR, potential RB problems if Freddie hits a wall) then I think you sit him, perserve his confidence, and let him learn from a vet. (Like Rodgers in Green Bay). If you have built up your lines (O and D) and have a good RB, you start him like St. Louis did with Bradford. This is a gross over generalization, but what I would recommend. Of course, i'm sure you can make that argument that if we get a top QB you can start him right away regardless and i'm sure teams have done that in the past w/o must of a core around him (P. Manning, Marino, etc.)

  9. If we replace Edwards for his D finishing 24th in the league, do we also replace Gailey for his O finishing 25th? If Gailey gets dethroned as OC, how can he have legitimacy as HC?

I'm sure if you exclude the few games Edwards/Brohm started our O finishes much higher (mid-teens prob). I like Gailey, and we scored over 30 pts many times this year with a terrible O-line, one good WR (Johnson) and not much help from the O-line. At any rate, my main point is our D needs help, finished LAST against the run, an excellent DC may be available, go get him!

  10. Before you all flame away, consider the following:

    1. Out D is terrible. Yes, we have bad players, but we were destroyed by the Jets backups. Time for a new (actual) D coordinator. Our current D coordinator can go back to coaching linebackers.

    2. Yes, Wannstedt was a average/below average head coach, but always had strong D's and was a GREAT D coordinator for the Cowboys in the early 90's. (Dick LeBeau was also a below average head coach).

    3. Wannstedt is angry at his demotion at Pitt, and would probably love to try another gig in the NFL. He was born and raised in nearby Pittsburgh.

    4. If not Wannsteat, who should coach our D? We need new talent, but we need an EXPERIENCED D coordinator to coach them.

    Thoughts!

  11. I don't know why we always miss in the first round, but we certinally find talent others miss. Steve Johnson (7th round) and David Nelson (undrafted and w/ 3TD's in last 3 games). These guys could be a great 1-2 WR combo for years to come. I'm not sure how or if Lee Evans fits in anymore. There is work to be done in other places for sure, but these guys look great.

  12. Agree for the most part. I don't think Luck will leave school and don't pretend to have the knowledge as to whether Maillett is the real deal, if he is take him. Not sold on Locker, so that DL, LB and T become most prudent. Whoever is taken, needs to be sure fire prowbowl type at those positions. This also doesn't address possible trades. If possible to get 2 first round selections for where B-lo ends up in draft, I'd be for that. (I read it's hard to trade the first pick.)

also have no clue about Mallett or Locker. If they are very solid I'd consider them at one, but i always fear taking a QB that high unless i've seen him play a bunch in college on TV (I know, not the best way to scout, but it's the only one i've got!!)

  13. Ok, so in my opinion (many of you will disagree) we are set at the skill positions. We finally have a QB who can throw the ball, and as a result Lee Evans, S. Johnson, and R. Parrish look solid. We also have 2 good RB's. So, in the next draft, I think you take the highest rated O-line, D-line, or LB available with every pick in the first 3 rounds. Personally I’d weight towards drafting D-Line, LB, then O-line, unless the Wisconsin O-lineman is available in the 2nd round, then I’d grab him. After the first 3 rounds, you can grab another RB, and WR at some point (these positions can generally be filled later in the draft). Thoughts.

Of course, if Luck is available, grab him, then follow the above pushing everything back a round. But i'm assuming Luck stays at Standford, unless Dallas has the 1ts pick. (since they will pay rediculous $$$).

  14. If Luck does not come out and declare for the draft, we NEED a defensive stud like this with our top pick. Having a guy that can disrupt the backfield is going to make all levels of our defense so much better.

We fix the D in the draft, and keep up our offensive production, we make the playoffs next year. I can't think of a team that's scoring as many points as we are (against good D's) that wouldn't make hte playoffs with a solid (not even great) D.

  15. Why not get them both. Quinn might drop w/ his off the feild problems? If he drops to 2nd round, I'd be nice to have both of these guys. I agree we can wait on QB. The only way I take a QB w/ the first pick is if Luck declares. If not, I grab him in 2011 when we will we still have a high pick.

  16. Isnt there a little bit of hypocrisy here folks? Granted Im all for players getting fined or suspended for blatant illegal hits. But out of one side of the NFLs mouth theyre saying were worried about player safety and then out of the other they say they want an 18 game regular season.

They just want the $$$. They fine you if you hit too hard, but will injure players for more $$$ by adding games. As a fan, the last thing I want is someone like top player getting injured playing some meaningless 17th game.

  17. This "Poz only makes tackles 10 yards downfield" bull **** is ridiculous. Number one, he plays behind the line so that's where most of his tackles are normally going to happen. Number two, our d-line is among the worst in the league and Poz is the only one on our team that cleans up their mess. He is always around the ball and is in the worst possible situation he could be in here in Buffalo.

Finally someone that knows something about how a defense works. Having a good D-line is essential to having good LB play, and we don't have that. If we let Poz go, those RB's are going to be 30 yards downfield before anyone puts a hand on them.
