  1. 1. Big Ben is a completely different situation. The aversion to him had nothing to do with on-field performance. People didn't want him because they like to cheer for their team, and even if the players really are !@#$s, it's nice to think they're not. It kind of ruins the fun when your team's icon is a complete scum bag. But with this Young kid you get the best of both worlds. He's a problem both off and on the field - and he's a problem in the locker room. He hit the problem child trifecta.

    2. It has nothing to do with punishing him. It has to do with not creating another problem for your team. It's not like he made a mistake or just had some maturity issues - that you can deal with. Rather, he's had a long and consistent history of causing problems everywhere he's been. It's who he is, and a tiger doesn't change its stripes. Sure, if he doesn't work out you can cut him, but why waste valuable time and resources on someone who's almost certain to make you regret dealing with him in the first place?

I agree. This isn't a one-time problem, or a guy like TO whose antics don't really hurt the team (and who most teammates liked). He's good, but I'd rather bring in an old vet like TO over this guy.

  2. denver has announced they will be bidding on 2018 - also the cities themselves have to meet certain minimum standards to even present a package (hotel room total within X distance, minimum event space, airport capacity to handle everything etc...)

Denver might bid, but they are doing this because NYC got it. And Seattle, Pittsburgh, etc. all likely meet the certain minimum standards to present a package to the NFL. The "new stadium" excuse is lame. It's in NYC because its NYC. No other city would get it first up north. It will also be expensive and a logistical nightmare. (even if the weather is good.)

  3. If they are going to give a game to NYC simply because its NYC, the following cities should have the Super Bowl:

    (1) Buffalo. Yes, Buffalo. Easy access to the game from the highways, large stadium capacity, close to Toronto (the NFL loves to expand viewership to Canada), and plenty of places to stay both in Buffalo and within a few hours drive to Erie or Rochester or Toronto.

    (2) Pittsburgh.

    (3) Green Bay

    (4) Denver

    (5) San Fran when new stadium is complete.

    (6) Cleveland: at least their fans will have something to look forward to.

    (7) Seattle. the "forgotten" NFL team has a sweet stadium, great city, and is not that cold there in the Winter.

  4. Really the 9ers secondary as a unit looked weak. Front 7 is that teams strength. Given time flacco and the ravens wr's were having their way with them

Whitner was getting torched all over. Their CB's are terrible as well. They will definitely be addressing this in the draft.

Whitner is no huge loss.... People have been talking about how great he is lately but he pooped his pants in the big game. He's an average player who is terrible in coverage..

yep. And he is benefiting from a great front 7. How bad would he have been w/ the bills this year w/ no pressure up front?!?! Wilson and Searcy are better.

  5. Smith doesn't seem like that kind of dude. That kind of play wouldn't get him far in the long run, anyway. You are always playing for your next contract in the NFL.

I agree, but did you hear Smith's interview on Tuesday? The guy was openly overly bitter. I wouldn't want him on my team after his public pouting fest. And Harbaugh could look back at Smith and say, "you couldn't even get us to the SB." This is a good question though as to whether he wanted a SB ring, or wanted to loose and try to get one on his own. We were debating this last night at the SB party I was at. Only he knows. Personally, I'd want the ring.

  6. I was quite vocal on this board about wanting green or peterson ahead of him. Green is a no brainer now (I bet 32 of 32 teams would rather have him) and I bet a majority would rather have Peterson too. Marcel just lacks a burst, leverage and a certain dynamism to ever be in a ngata or wilfork category. Which is what I want out of a #3 overall 330+ DT.

Is it just me (could be) or is there a trend of Alabama D-lineman under-performing in the NFL compared to their expectations (Marcell and Cody). ? And no, I'm not calling Marcell a bust, but he's playing more like a 2nd rounder. Although, just like CB Williams, I will give him a pass on last year w/ Wanny in charge. Looking forward to seeing an attacking D in Buffalo FINALLY!

  7. Until teams are relocated to that wasteland of NFL misery, all small market and old crusty stadium laden franchises are at risk, with Buffalo and San Diego being in the worst shape. Lets not kid ourselves, Russ Brandon and Ralphie-poo are not doing Buffalo any favors. If you think our beloved Bills are safe with this new stadium lease, I wouldn't kid yourselves, and the toronto abomination doesn't help either, if fact, it strengthens the perspective that WNY cannot sell out games on their own, and nothing could be further from the truth.

Actually, Russ is doing Buffalo a favor. The Bills NEED the Canadian market. The Bills cannot sell out the Ralph based on WNY tickets alone, and the situation will only get worse as NYS Government continues to ignore Western NY.....that's why 20% of the attendance at games is from Southern Ontario. Further, in order to sell the tickets, the Bills have one of, if not the the, lowest season ticket prices in the NFL. Those prices can only go up w/ increased demand. More population, southern Ontario=more demand. A new owner is not going to come in an let literally millions sit on the table that could be gained by moving to a city that's growing and can afford to pay more in terms of lux boxes and ticket prices. The only way to solve this problem is to drive up demand and increase ticket costs eventually. (which also cannot happen until they play better). But don't let facts get in the way of your rant.

Eff LA. The only 2 teams that should be even considered to move are the Chargers and Jags. Stop being greedy a holes NFL. The league is the richest league in the world as it is.

It's the owners, not the NFL. And the teams are businesses. Yes, it sucks, and I will prob stop caring about the NFL if the Bills move, but Buffalo needs to take a long, hard look at what got itself into this mess to begin with: the stupid politicians that are stuck in 1975 and continue to drive businesses, jobs, and consequently people to other cities.

  8. I love the draft talk as much if not more than most.. But there is no reason getting all worked up over it until the FA period takes place... Needs change instantly and we will have a 10x clearer view of what will or "should" take place.

If we sign 2 Lb's in free agency that are respected as starters.. no one will be clamoring for jarvis jones etc... Just as an example, same obv goes for Wr etc

Good point. But I think the assumption now is that "nothing happens during FA." Then after FA, you talk about the draft again. Same thing with senior bowl, combine, etc. I always operate under the assumption that if nothing changes between now and the draft when discussing the draft, obvisouly that is not correct, but it's too hard/time consuming for me to put together a FA/Draft board. But I'm glad some do.

  9. clearly I don't see this happening, but if it did it would be fantastic. Gino, Spiller, Johnson, Williams, a TE (the draft is deep at these). The offense would be unstoppable. The new D coordinator should help the D, and I think we will be able to find a good safety and LB in the later rounds.

I wouldn't like it one bit. Smith is no lock to succeed in the NFL. Meanwhile everyone ahead of us grabs LBers we need.

    PTR

neither was AJ Green. Guess that worked out.

  10. Kind of ironic also, someone is looking into buying the Sacramento Kings and moving them to Seattle, and the whole California legislature is talking about passing laws to prevent it.

    Moving into California --- okay

    moving out ---- illegal.

    lol

    .

welcome to the State of California, you can check in anytime, but you can never leave.....

  11. Unfortunate.

The season ticket holders really get boned by this deal especially now that they took away the preseason games going up there too.

we have the lowest ticket prices in the league. Why would a new owner coming in say, "oh, look, we play all the games at home, but that's ok, I'm glad they didn't renew the toronto series." The Tornoto game brings in $$$. I'm a season ticket holder and fine w/ it. It helps keep the team in Buffalo.

While this is obviously not the popular choice but can anyone make a suggestion on how to make the game experience in TO better? Save the negative comments and suggestions for another topic.

A winning team?! Once this team turns it around, people in Toronto will be coming to watch CJ Spiller, Mario Williams, our new QB, etc. The series is happening, so I like your question. Perhaps discounted tickets for BB season ticket holders to get them to come to TO for the game. This would also help tourism in TO and would enable the mayor to point to this as a good business deal for the city as well.

Other than for another cash grab for Ralphus, obviously Brandon thinks there are enough fans out there who actually believe nonsense like the above post for him to justify this move.

It's not "nonsense," it's called "facts." You may not like them, but you can't dispute it.

5 years ago it was a huge cash grab, the article says this agreement is "significantly" less, which likely means not that much more than playing the game at the Ralph. Here is an idea for ya Russ, raise ticket prices to the league average and that income will more than make up for the money you are stealing by whoring the team to Toronto and screwing your real fans!

First, you are totally speculating at what "significantly" less means. The deal 5 years ago was a HUGE grab for Buffalo, now you "guess" without any evidence that it's the same as the Ralph. Then you suggest raising ticket prices, when the team has excess inventory for other games. The Real fans don't want to pay higher ticket prices at the Ralph, and Real fans might take a trip to Toronto to cheer on the team.

  12. you dont think they have attempted to SELL luxury boxes to toronto business? you dont think they try to SELL advertising to toronto businesses? lol....

maybe im in the minority, but im FINE with "giving" away a home game to Toronto every year if it keeps generating revenue to the Bills and allows them to stay in Buffalo (even though at this point id be glad if they move to LA/London) - its expanding the Bills market/reach - the same thing they are doing by holding training camps in Rochester, expanding the brand to try and generate as much revenue as possible so the Bills can remain viable in a small city market like Buffalo....its playing one game on a neutral playing field instead of a home game....whats the big deal if its whats keeping the Bills economically viable and in Buffalo full time?

Personally I think Brandon is a master at marketing and making money for this team....thank god hes not running the football side of the operation anymore, but as far as the business side....hes solid in my opinion (the ownership needs to be decided, unfortuantely meaning Ralph has to die, before any real "change" happens at OBD)

I agree with you. He continually sells out games for a team that has not been to the playoffs in 13 years. Taking our your frustration on someone who has nothing to do w/ the poor quality of play over the past 13 years while trying to increase the fanbase in a shrinking city that is on economical hard times is absurd. We need the Toronto money, and the move that Brandon has made to get more fans from Rochester and CNY (which is largely lost on the anti-Brandon crowd). We need to regionalism, that is the TRUTH. You may not like it, you may wish that the economy and population of Buffalo was not shrinking, but they are. Fact is, if it weren't for Brandon recognizing this, this team would have no hope for a future in Buffalo.

Whoa... who ever talked about banning Canadians from the Ralph???

Without the efforts to reach out to the CA fan-base, the Canadians would not come to the Ralph.

Buffalo is, as I recall, the 3rd smallest market in the NFL. Green Bay is smaller, but Green Bay represent the whole state of Wisconsin and is owned by their fans. The Packers aren't moving. I think Jacksonville is also smaller and Jax fans also worry about losing their team.

There are bigger cities out there, LA prominently among them, that don't have NFL franchises. Worse, the Buffalo market is stagnant while other cities enjoys healthy growth and prosperity. 100 years ago, Buffalo was perhaps the 10th biggest city in the US. Now the Buffalo metro area is about 40th, and it's only going to drop further down that list. Let's not forget that ticket prices in Buffalo are among the lowest in the league - if not the absolute lowest. While this is good for fans, it sucks for the Bills as a business. The smallish Buffalo economy just doesn't support a higher price point for tickets.

Why would a billionaire owner want to keep a billion dollar franchise in a non-growth market when there are - financially speaking - much better options out there?

Russ is doing everything he can to answer that question. If he succeeds in creating an active fan base in Toronto and Rochester, we may actually have some hope of keeping the Bills in Buffalo long term. If he fails, I seriously worry about the consequences.

    I'm not signing the petition.

A well-though out response! I'd rather send Brandon a thank you card for his efforts than sign this poorly though out petition.

  13. I like the idea of adding to the O-line, but I think there will be value in later rounds. I'd like a LB first. Also, if we get a veteran stopgap at QB I would not be against not drafting one this year and loading up at LB, WR, DB, line based on BPA at time of pick.

  14. This is the part you have to get past mentally. I admit I had to get past it too. I don't want the Bills to be considered cheaters but that is the way these days.

Manziel is over 18 and has the legal right to sign a contract. The Bills are a corporation and they are also able to sign a contract. If the NCAA and the NFL want to go to court, good luck with the contract already signed.

It would be interesting, but the Bills probablly have a contract with the NFL that they will abide by NFL rules, including eligibility rules, which would likely render the contract w/ Manziel null and void. If not, the contract may be honored, but the NFL could keep him out until he reaches their eligibility threshhold.

  15. I think EJ Manuel looks much more like a NFL QB than either Wilson or Nassib who both look like products of college "dink and dunk" system QBs. I normally don't like posting highlight videos, but just look at Manuel in 2011 and see the footwork and comfort level in and out of the pocket. Plus his throwing motion looks much better than Wilson's and Nassib's.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1sp3S4wNig

He was also the QB who led the South on all 3 of their scoring drives. I was impressed on the final scoring drive when he stood in the pocket, side-stepped a rusher while not taking his eyes off the WR (or TE) and hit him in stride. I think he's the most ready. Would love him in RD 1 and Wilson, Nassib or Dysert in RD 2.

It's déjà vu all over again. I'm baffled by those that don't like EJ Manuel just like I was when some of you didn't like Colin Kaepernick a couple of years ago. What's not to like?

    Arm strength: check

    Accuracy: check

    Running ability: check

Plays big in big time games: check

Everything else can be coached. So what if he stares down his primary target? So what if he doesn't go through his progressions? TEACH him how! That's what coaching is for! You can't learn how to be fast, or strong, or accurate. But you can learn the rest. One year one the bench and EJ will be ready to go.

People call him inconsistent. If a 68 completion percentage is considered inconsistent then I'll take it. His YPA is amazing, too.

Don't fall for the trap that gets set by the media hype machine. Every year they have their Gabberts and their Kaepernicks. I'm no expert, but I didn't like Gabbert one bit. I loved Kap. My eyes tell me everything I need to know.

    Well said. !
