  1. perhaps it depends on if he is willing to restrcture his contract. He is a solid backup, but is making way too much for a backup. We need cap space to bring in a guy like Kugler (sp) after signing Byrd and Levitre (if we can, but seems like he may want to be overpaid).

Kelsay told AP today that he was cleared to resume practicing after being examined by Bills doctors last month.

Thanks for the update JW. Any chance he is in a 'restructure or your gone' sort of situation. Or that they are releasing this info in hopes or trading him? (for what I don't know).

  2. I'm guessing they'll look for a Vet to plug in first...Though decent SS prospects can be had on the 2nd and 3rd day of the Draft...

That's assuming you have a decent Scouting Department of course...I'll just play dumb on that note... B-)

Thomas from SU perhaps in a later round, vet to plug in for now. Byrd, Landry, Searcy, Thomas as backup.

  3. Still not a bad position to be in, you got to figure if Fitz restructures that frees up anywhere from 5-10 million if they cut him that still has to free some space. I also think they could have some cuts on the roster that could free up more space like Kelsay or B.Smith.

Overall I don't think the Bills are going to be big spenders but resigning Levitre and Byrd would help a lot.

I agree, not a bad position at all. considering restructuring Fitz will save $$, and they still have players they could cut such as Kelsey, B. Smith, that would free up even more. We must resign Byrd and Levitre. With other players on the market who will command ridiculous amounts of money such as Mike Wallace, and Ed Reed, the teams that would blow cash on Byrd and Levitre might have already spent that money.

Looks pretty good to me, using these stats.

I think the difference is that Fitz is consistently mediocre every game. He does not have the "great" games that Flacco, Manning and Luck have. He also does not have the terrible games either it seems, he is consistently medicore.

  5. I think Fitz is a very good backup to have, and would be quiet about the demotion. My problem is that if a rookie comes in and has a bad game you start seeing tweets from SJ, etc. about putting Fitz back in. I'd completely cut ties with the past problems at QB position and flood it with FA's and draft picks. Perhaps get him to restructure, and then trade him.

  6. 1. Big Ben is a completely different situation. The aversion to him had nothing to do with on-field performance. People didn't want him because they like to cheer for their team, and even if the players really are !@#$s, it's nice to think they're not. It kind of ruins the fun when your team's icon is a complete scum bag. But with this Young kid you get the best of both worlds. He's a problem both off and on the field - and he's a problem in the locker room. He hit the problem child trifecta.

    2. It has nothing to do with punishing him. It has to do with not creating another problem for your team. It's not like he made a mistake or just had some maturity issues - that you can deal with. Rather, he's had a long and consistent history of causing problems everywhere he's been. It's who he is, and a tiger doesn't change its stripes. Sure, if he doesn't work out you can cut him, but why waste valuable time and resources on someone who's almost certain to make you regret dealing with him in the first place?

I agree. This isn't a one-time problem, or a guy like TO whose antics don't really hurt the team (and who most teammates liked). He's good, but I'd rather bring in an old vet like TO over this guy.

  7. denver has announced they will be bidding on 2018 - also the cities themselves have to meet certain minimum standards to even present a package (hotel room total within X distance, minimum event space, airport capacity to handle everything etc...)

Denver might bid, but they are doing this because NYC got it. And Seattle, Pittsburgh, etc. all likely meet the certain minimum standards to present a package to the NFL. The "new stadium" excuse is lame. It's in NYC because its NYC. No other city would get it first up north. It will also be expensive and a logistical nightmare. (even if the weather is good.)

  8. If they are going to give a game to NYC simply because its NYC, the following cities should have the Super Bowl:

    (1) Buffalo. Yes, Buffalo. Easy access to the game from the highways, large stadium capacity, close to Toronto (the NFL loves to expand viewership to Canada), and plenty of places to stay both in Buffalo and within a few hours drive to Erie or Rochester or Toronto.

    (2) Pittsburgh.

    (3) Green Bay

    (4) Denver

    (5) San Fran when new stadium is complete.

    (6) Cleveland: at least their fans will have something to look forward to.

    (7) Seattle. the "forgotten" NFL team has a sweet stadium, great city, and is not that cold there in the Winter.

  9. Really the 9ers secondary as a unit looked weak. Front 7 is that teams strength. Given time flacco and the ravens wr's were having their way with them

Whitner was getting torched all over. Their CB's are terrible as well. They will definitely be addressing this in the draft.

Whitner is no huge loss.... People have been talking about how great he is lately but he pooped his pants in the big game. He's an average player who is terrible in coverage..

yep. And he is benefiting from a great front 7. How bad would he have been w/ the bills this year w/ no pressure up front?!?! Wilson and Searcy are better.

  10. Smith doesn't seem like that kind of dude. That kind of play wouldn't get him far in the long run, anyway. You are always playing for your next contract in the NFL.

I agree, but did you hear Smith's interview on Tuesday? The guy was openly overly bitter. I wouldn't want him on my team after his public pouting fest. And Harbaugh could look back at Smith and say, "you couldn't even get us to the SB." This is a good question though as to whether he wanted a SB ring, or wanted to loose and try to get one on his own. We were debating this last night at the SB party I was at. Only he knows. Personally, I'd want the ring.

  11. I was quite vocal on this board about wanting green or peterson ahead of him. Green is a no brainer now (I bet 32 of 32 teams would rather have him) and I bet a majority would rather have Peterson too. Marcel just lacks a burst, leverage and a certain dynamism to ever be in a ngata or wilfork category. Which is what I want out of a #3 overall 330+ DT.

Is it just me (could be) or is there a trend of Alabama D-lineman under-performing in the NFL compared to their expectations (Marcell and Cody). ? And no, I'm not calling Marcell a bust, but he's playing more like a 2nd rounder. Although, just like CB Williams, I will give him a pass on last year w/ Wanny in charge. Looking forward to seeing an attacking D in Buffalo FINALLY!

  12. Until teams are relocated to that wasteland of NFL misery, all small market and old crusty stadium laden franchises are at risk, with Buffalo and San Diego being in the worst shape. Lets not kid ourselves, Russ Brandon and Ralphie-poo are not doing Buffalo any favors. If you think our beloved Bills are safe with this new stadium lease, I wouldn't kid yourselves, and the toronto abomination doesn't help either, if fact, it strengthens the perspective that WNY cannot sell out games on their own, and nothing could be further from the truth.

Actually, Russ is doing Buffalo a favor. The Bills NEED the Canadian market. The Bills cannot sell out the Ralph based on WNY tickets alone, and the situation will only get worse as NYS Government continues to ignore Western NY.....that's why 20% of the attendance at games is from Southern Ontario. Further, in order to sell the tickets, the Bills have one of, if not the the, lowest season ticket prices in the NFL. Those prices can only go up w/ increased demand. More population, southern Ontario=more demand. A new owner is not going to come in an let literally millions sit on the table that could be gained by moving to a city that's growing and can afford to pay more in terms of lux boxes and ticket prices. The only way to solve this problem is to drive up demand and increase ticket costs eventually. (which also cannot happen until they play better). But don't let facts get in the way of your rant.

Eff LA. The only 2 teams that should be even considered to move are the Chargers and Jags. Stop being greedy a holes NFL. The league is the richest league in the world as it is.

It's the owners, not the NFL. And the teams are businesses. Yes, it sucks, and I will prob stop caring about the NFL if the Bills move, but Buffalo needs to take a long, hard look at what got itself into this mess to begin with: the stupid politicians that are stuck in 1975 and continue to drive businesses, jobs, and consequently people to other cities.

  13. I love the draft talk as much if not more than most.. But there is no reason getting all worked up over it until the FA period takes place... Needs change instantly and we will have a 10x clearer view of what will or "should" take place.

If we sign 2 Lb's in free agency that are respected as starters.. no one will be clamoring for jarvis jones etc... Just as an example, same obv goes for Wr etc

Good point. But I think the assumption now is that "nothing happens during FA." Then after FA, you talk about the draft again. Same thing with senior bowl, combine, etc. I always operate under the assumption that if nothing changes between now and the draft when discussing the draft, obvisouly that is not correct, but it's too hard/time consuming for me to put together a FA/Draft board. But I'm glad some do.

  14. clearly I don't see this happening, but if it did it would be fantastic. Gino, Spiller, Johnson, Williams, a TE (the draft is deep at these). The offense would be unstoppable. The new D coordinator should help the D, and I think we will be able to find a good safety and LB in the later rounds.

I wouldn't like it one bit. Smith is no lock to succeed in the NFL. Meanwhile everyone ahead of us grabs LBers we need.

    PTR

neither was AJ Green. Guess that worked out.
