1. I picked the NFL.  College games take far too long to play.  Most big time games are almost 4 hours in length.  The clock stops every time a guy breaths, I mean come on.  Plus watching most college games is like watching paint dry, the offenses are bland but somehow the scores always end up 48-35.  Oh ya because the clock stop every ten second and each team has 33 possessions.  By the way, can anyone every hit a big kick?

    733209

That is why I pick the college game. There are more plays. There are not enough plays in the NFL since they start up the clock sooner after an out of bounds play. I went to the Cal/Wash. St. game with my kids last Oct. and the game was exciting. I looked up and there is still time to go in the first QTR. One long drive in a Pro game can eat up 2/3 of a qtr. I went to the Bills Raiders game the next day and it wasn't near as fun for my boys and I.

I say lengthen the games and allow all 53 players to suit up. Timout's in the pros used to be one minute long. Now it seems like I'm watching commercials with a splattering of football mixed in. We only get about 60 offensive plays per team vs. about 75-90 in college. I'll take a four hour game in college any time.

  2. MISSES:OFFENSE

    MISSES: DEFENSE

---Eric Powell, Mark Word, Matthew Rice, Jason Hall, Lauvale Sape, LaWaylon Brown, Tai Tupai, Wendell Hunter, Mario Haggan, Greg Carothers, Coy Wire, Rob Lee, James Bethea, Matt Bowen

    MISSES: SPECIAL TEAMS

    ---Nick Setta

    PRACTICE SQUADDERS:

    SURPRISE KEEPERS

---Cieslak, George Wilson, Martin Nance, Aaron Gibson, Brad Butler

I still need to cut 1 player to make a 53 Man Roster. Probably a DT (Jefferson?). I don't have a long snapper either (probably Schneck).

    726358

Matthew Rice and Greg Carothers have already been cut and Tim Euhus was traded to the Saints; if that helps with your roster trimming.

  3. Teams with Red and Blue: Bills, Patriots, Giants, Texans, Titans.

    Pessimism begins.

    722524

If this original post is on the level, then we need to take this off the Stadium Wall and on to "Easily Duped". I would like to know how many 'Psychics' make there living in Vegas.

  4. Had to be the TD hype machine, I didn't see anything about bad work ethic going into the regular season.. Watching JP in the 1st-quarter against the Texans in those beautiful throwbacks, I thought we were making a playoff run.

    706308

Those TD passes against KC to Lee Evans were beautiful as well. The rest of the season was pretty pathetic however. I still think JP is going to be an above QB but he may wear out his welcome before the maturation occurs... Hope not !

  5. I think the main issue with Willis lies in his true underlying motivation (or lack thereof).  He seems to be a totally uninspired figure.  He doesn't seem to be the type of player who covets the all mighty dollar above all, he just seems like the type of guy who happened to be good at football, and it keeps him from working a 9-5 job.  It's like the question: what would you do if you won the megamillions?  Would you sit around and do nothing for the rest of your life or would you truly make your mark on the world.....I have a feeling McGahee would choose option A.  Option A is fine if you are one of the 250 million other average Americans, but it's not if you want to be an elite running back.  He epitomizes just going through the motions.

    705264

Willis has admitted that he is not a football fan. So it is just a job for him. However, some of you may remember Dave Casper TE from Notre Dame/Oakland Raiders/Hall of Fame. He was quoted. as saying that there was only one thing worse than football practice.. and that was the game on Sundays. He hated FB yet was excellent at it.

I think Willis will be just fine if he can get just a little hole to run through. All this negativity will be gone towards him when he breaks off his first big'gainer (and I think he will give 100% once he is there).

  6.

It's not hard at all to believe the O production will exceed that of last year. Last year was pathetic.

    705143

And we have done so much to improve our offense in the off season. Let's see , we drafted uh..... three practice player lineman(we may have the strongest O-Line in practice player history).

We got Andre Davis who was heavily desired by... ??

Melvin Fowler and Tutan Reyes... who may be practicing their Bennie Anderson/ Mike Gandy impersonations as we speak.

Oh and Robert Royal.. who's nickname was oops in Washington.. as in "ooops I dropped another pass".

Finally, having a QB like KH who doesn't mind throwing a three yard pass on third and nine.

I see very little reason for optimism about the offense other than the fact that the defense should be better.. allowing the Offense better field position, which, in reality, cannot be overrated.

Given time, we have enough off. weapons.. but I don't see us giving Losman, Holcomb etc. enough time to get our burners open or create holes for Willis.

But I'm just a fan like the rest of you and I hope someone can flag this post and talk about what an idiot I am the Week before we Play the Bucs in the Superbowl this year. Take Care All.

  7. It appears that neither Fowler or Reyes were wanted back by their previous teams, they were not pursued by anyone other than the Bills, they signed relatively cheap contracts (at least Reyes did, Fowler may have gotten more... not sure), and they've bounced around the league playing for a few teams. It's not fair to them, but until we see them play, it is what it is.

And "gold mine, sure-fire all pro" is an exaggeration... the difference is the 2nd or 3rd round pick doesn't have any obvious holes in their resume yet (unlike the journeymen FA's mentioned above) other than lack of experience... and the upside and potential to be good is far greater (though still unknown).

    696001

Agree with Rico. Plus Fowler and Reyes spelled sideways looks a lot like Anderson Gandy and Teague. In other words, our track record of picking up linemen who nobody else wants and expecting us to be excited.. well history says be skeptical. Hope we're wrong ... but I doubt it.

  8. I hope Losman comes out and just puts the issue to rest....

He has so much more talent then either of these 2 guys....his thread to be able to run for first downs would make him a complete player if he could just settle down on his accuracy

    694966

Agree 100 %. Holcomb may end up #1 but that would be the worst thing for this franchise. One of the other two needs to step to the plate. If any one unrelated to K. Holcomb is rooting for him to be #1 (if they are a Bills fan) then I question their understanding of the game. The goal is to win it all and Holcomb has NO chance of doing it ! The other two are question marks and... a "Maybe but probably not" is still much better than an "absolutely not". Thanks.

  9. The thing I find interesting about Gibson is if they are slating him at backup RT that means they feel he is mobile for his size.

If that is the case why not move him to LG?

    694960

With his size, even at Right tackle he isn't very far from Left guard !

If he can play at all like he did at Wisconsin he will be an improvement over the "Matadors" currently occupying space on the depth chart. They'll find a spot for him somewhere.. so I don't think his position his etched in stone.

  10. I see no evidence that the revolving door policy has been changed at all.  How do you know that guys Marv is bringing in are going to work any harder or give you any more than the guys TD brought in?

    694943

is there any evidence that Fowler and Reyes are any better than Gandy and B.Anderson ? I didn't hear of any bidding wars for these guys. I hope there is much improvement 'cuz Willis just needs a little opening and we might just make a few third and shorts without having to throw the ball. However,The only reason for optimism is.. blind optimism.

  11. The best offensive linemen are the ones you never hear their name, the reason for that, their job is to block and open holes. Not something the announcers usually talk about. Also if you hear one of their names called on the field its usually followed by what they are penalized for. What more can you ask for in a linemen then to just keep you in a game? They don't have to run in Touchdowns (typically don't, unless they read MM's playbooks, LOL), or block the opposing offences from scoring or kick a field goal. Their jobs are simple, they have to give the QB time to make a play and open holes for a RB by blocking an opposing Defence. By doing that they keep you in games. You don't need Pro Bowlers to do this, you just need guys who can do that well.

    694933

I thought that was how they made the Pro Bowl... by doing just that.

  12. I probably think Flutie was the better QB but I was glad when they went with Johnson. We KNEW we weren't going to win a SB with Flutie and Johnson would have been the only one of the two to have won a playoff game.. had the special teams not blown it. I want the Bills to WIN the SB. That is the goal and it wasn't going to happen with Flutie.

It turned out RJ was not a winner and the team paid a steep price for him.

Lastly, Flutie was a cancer to the team with his back-stabbing ways to the media. I want the Bills to win a Superbowl at least once before I depart this earth but I would prefer it without a media-hyped fraud of a person as leader of the team.

  13. OJ was great. Thurman, everyone I believe know my opinion, as I get very protective when idiots compare Willis or Travis to him (not even close guys).  bruce, Jimbo, etc.. are great.

But James flat out went 3 years (I believe) without ever giving up a TD to his receiver that he covered.  He was the ultimate shutdown corner and team player.  Not flashy like Sanders but a better pure cover.  If it wasn;t for injuries that shortened his career, people would be saying Sanders was the second best corner ever.

    694608

Won't disagree with his greatness. I remember him going down against the Rams in a preseason game, I believe. With the technology today he may have come back and been a perennial all-pro. That was a bummer 'cuz we were building a good team at the time.

  14. I agree on Frutie.  Think about all that Frutie did:

    (a) He single handedly saved the Bills from moving. (selling all those luxury box seats himself and making RW gobs of money).

    (b) He was a winner.  Simple as that.

© Look at all the things he did for the Buffalo community and how he carried himself and gave of himself

    (d) His playoff record is perfect

    (e) Remind me of how many superbowl MVP awards he earned

    (f) He is a lock to be a first ballot HOFer

    (g) For god's sake he had a cereal named after him

    (h) Look at all the young QB's he has mentored

    (i) Look at the number of probowls he went to AFTER the Bills stupidly release him

Frutie is a no-brain selection as to the most valuable Bill. Period.

    694596

When he stood at the podium in support of Hillary Clinton... that sealed it for me!

  15. I have watched Bills games since 1965. There is no comparison.

O.J. Simpson is by far the best player ever to play for the Bills. There is no argument. To say he is not considered to be in the top 5 at his position is to show you are too young to remember or are tainted by his character. Jim Brown is the only runningback who I would say is clearly better than Simpson. Franco Harris.... lol. Emmitt Smith... he had 4/5 all pros on his oline and was smaller and slower than the Juice. Walter Payton is in the ball park and was better than Emmitt but Gale Sayers was better than Payton. In fact, I'd put Sayers up with the Juice if it weren't for the injuries. I wish we could see full games from the 70's to see the fear factor he brought to opposing defenses. Barry Sanders was great but had too many 4 yard losses to go along with the big plays.

I love Thurman, Kelly Andre Reed and Bruce Smith but none had the ability of O.J.

Second , in my opinion ... Bruce Smith. Thanks

  16. Do you want to waste time on this? Ok, in your last post, you had "No its because......", it should be "it's because......". Do you want more examples? Make sure you're using English first.

    Nice comeback.  :)

You know, hate and disgust aren't that far from love and lust. Two weeks in the Bahamas together might just cure what ails you!! If you guys met you might even end up liking each other. Take Care

  17. I've been wrong before.... but if we had drafted Youboty with McCargo's pick and McCargo with Youboty's pick (not saying McCargo would have been there) would the pundits be talking about how the Bills are loading up on defense with five possible starters in 2007 (Those two, Whitner, Simpson and K. Williams). Once they are in camp the word VALUE goes out the door. They are just football players and a football team. To risk going down even five spots for a third round pick and not getting your man is only relevant if you don't have a strong preference on your choice. The Bills' scouts obviously loved Whitner and I for one will cut them some slack until I see Whitner can't play. Go Bills !!

  18. With the performance of Shaud Williams last year, I can't see him being cut.  He just made things happen.  There will also need to be a 4th DE on the active roster most likely.

    687073

I like Williams' desire and attitude but it seemed the things he most made happen were getting the ball and making a second and seven into a third and seven. Just not enough production from your backup. Does come from my favorite college team though. Thanks.
