  1. You could, on the other hand, argue that he was assistant coach of a line that saw dramatic improvement and recognized that change was needed in the personnel -- like finally moving Peters to LT, giving Pennington a shot, telling Tutan Reyes to take a seat, and seeing that Gandy was a much better guard than LT.

Or you could thank Chris Villarial for getting injured.

I choose point #2 (Villarial) until we can make more than one yard on our infamous offtackle Left on first and 10. Improvement... yes, but Pennington playing may have more to do with him having a 'pulse' as with his working his way up the depth chart due to astute "assistant coaching". It was more like "Can somebody give the QB just a half-second to throw the ball? SOMEBODY ??

  2. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can't lose him, He's an assistant offensive line coach. Our line was so good, now it will be horrible.

Oh wait, our line was horrible. Well then, Have a good time in Pittsburgh, have your desk cleared out by 5

Oh I beg to differ my friend. Just wait till next year when we lose a big game and we all come to the same conclusion.... We coulda, woulda, shoulda....Who the hell let that assistant offensive line coach go ?! That move in January just cost us the Lombardi Trophy. Just wait you'll see !!

  3. Heard an NFL scout on a local talk radio in L.A. compare Lynch to Thurman Thomas and Adrian Peterson to Eric Dickerson...in styles, not necessarily in ability. Lynch, if you've ever watched him. has a lot of savvy and DESIRE ! Something I wished the Bills had more of at this position. Sadly, the chances of us getting this "difference maker" are probably less than 1 in 32.

  4. This list will most likely be revised as some underclassman decide to enter the draft. Throw Ted Ginn Jr. into the mix. In fact, it would be nice having Ginn lined up on the other side of the field as Evans. But an earth mover is needed for the running game.

Isn't R. Parrish a poor man's T. Ginn Jr.. I think Parrish/Reed and whomever makes the team will have an easier time getting open and making plays if the running game was respected. Now it's run McGahee to the left on first down and hope we get a yard or two. Our drives consist mainly of 83 yard pass plays to #83. My point is Ginn would look good but the other guys could look better if the run was respected. Create holes , bring the safeties up and let the receivers beat their guys one-on-one. (Very much of an oversimplification, I know). Later

  5. however, i have to say a NINETEEN YEAR OLD who is a dominating d-1 player is very tanatalizing indeed. i coach 19-22 year olds, and about 100% of them are twice the athlete at 22 than they were at age 19. how much better COULD he be in the 3 years? it seems like a no-brainer, but then again, mike williams.

marv, please figure it out, would you?

The downside being that by the time he is 23-24 and possibly playing at his best he will be a free agent and will be signed by a big $$pockets team

  6. Now way do the Bills draft Amobi Okoye. He's 19. He's got probably 3 more years growing to do, and will not have the weight room time that his opponents will have. He'd be a project for the NFL, no matter how much he shined in the Orange Bowl/College season. We could use a DT for sure, but not a kid who would almost certainly not be fully developed for another 3-4 years minimum.

If you're theory is true, then he'll be ready to shine ... just as he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Isn't that a lovely thought !!

  7. Second best. But looks like he's going the Flutie route due to lack of arm strength (CFL first).

Even if I'm wrong about that, I'm the same guy who said Whitner and Simpson would be good players but we'd be disappointed with McCargo and Youboty. How's that turning out?

You are simply ...THE BEST !!!

  8. In one of my mock drafts from last year, I had the Bills picking Whitner. I also had them trading down before picking Whitner, but that's another story altogether. :-)

Please tell me that you aren't the guy who said Erik Meyer from would turn out to be the best QB in lasts years draft.

  9. If it is not Billy Shaw ... I can not imagine who it would be I even checked rosters for

    - Tonawanda Kardex

    - Buffalo All-Americans

    - Buffalo Bisons

    - Buffalo Rangers

Im itchin to post my two...I win plenty of drinks with these....DQ me but answer for fun.

Who scored the first points for the Bills in Superbowl XXV

How many Heisman trophy winners have the Bills drafted? Who are they?

I thin Scott Norwood scored the first points on a FG. The first TD was by Don Smith a backup RB

I have no idea on the Heisman. O.J. of course. I think they may have drafted Terry Baker from Oregon St., a QB but there may have been others before the COMMON draft. Good questions !!

  10. I have seen Marshawn Lynch play in person only once, but have seen several Cal games on the tube and I think he will be one of the best in the league within 2-3 years. He has a great desire and understands the game and where the first down markers are. I would be very happy if he wore a Bills Jersey next year as I think he is already better than anything on our roster,; in fact Willis is light years away from this guy.

  11. Tony Hunter from Notre Dame.

Here's mine: Which Bills have won MVP of the Pro Bowl?

Steve Tasker won and I think Bruce Smith did around 1988/1989. Jim Kelly I think won one, but if he didn't I'm sure I'll get hammered and O.J. got one in the mid seventies. I don't think Billy Jo Hobert or Rob Johnson received an MVP but I can't be sure.

  12. 1st pick = some bum TE whose name i don't remember

2nd pick = some QB outta Miami named Jim Somethingerother :flirt:. Got the pick directly from trading Cousineu (sp?) to the Browns. Read an article a couple years ago that we indirectly got the pick from the OJ to SF trade, thru a series of trades across a couple years

TE was Tony Hunter out of Notre Dame.

  13. I can't see any reason why they would have changed their minds.....though I'm not counting it out.

Basically we were under-manned this season at DT. Triplett, Rookie(1st rounder), Rookie & Anderson....with Rookie(1st) getting injured in game 6.

DJ & Marv are smart guys.....they had to have expected severe growing pains at the DT position(both this season & next).

It looks to me(from early information) that there is a good amount of 'good' DT prospects in the draft this season. Since none of the FAs are "WOW!!!" I'd rather draft a guy who....though he may become a bust......may also become a super-star......over a FA who can simply get the job done.

I know you disagree but I would like the stud AND the best DT available in free agency that will agree to play in Buffalo. I am not sold on Williams being much more than a back up ( I know he's young and can develop) and Anderson needs to go (preferrably to Miami). That leaves Tripplett, McCargo, Williams, a first OR second round pick and a veteran. And hopefully we have to make the "painful" decision that our 2006 fifth round pick is not good enough to make the team. That would be a good "tough" decision.

  14. I am not against trading the pick in principle, providing we get a lot for it, and select players in positions at which we are lacking.

For example, in 2001 we traded away a #14 to Tampa Bay for their 21st, and a 2nd round pick. Imo, this #12 is worth more than this, because:

    A) Obviously, a 12th is a better pick than a #14.

    B) Because of the higher cap, there is a lack of quality UFAs, thus making the draft almost the only avenue to improve a football team. This should cause picks to increase in value.

Also; in 2001, we of course selected a defensive back first (Clements) once again. The thing is, we followed this up with a DE (Schobel), RB (Henry), DT (Edwards) and an OT (Jennings). We did enter this draft with an extra 3rd. To his credit, TD went after players at positions which are hard to fill, and was successful.

Otoh, Marv entered the 06 draft with the #8 and an extra early 3rd (4 first day picks). He came away with a safety, a very questionable DT, and a CB about whom nobody has a clue. I defy anyone to compare the 2 and tell me that 01 was not a better 1st day. If this wasn't enough suffering, Marv opened Day 2 with yet another safety; this after signing UFAs at both safety and corner. Now, we are still said to need defensive backs? Sorry, but this sucks.

If Marv can remember that he already devoted the 06 offseason to the secondary and see fit to draft players at other positions early, a trade down might just work. If not, he might as well stand pat and just grab a corner at #12, even if 2 are already selected. Why get confused, ya know?

I didn't think using real evidence to back up your opinion was permitted on this board. Not that i mind .. just hope it's not contagious
  15. The Bills had the 12th pick in the 1983 draft and took Tony Hunter, TE out of Notre Dame. It was later, the 14th pick, and clearly thought less of than Hunter, that the Bills took Kelly. I'm just sayin'.

Agreed no science Mike Williams, Tony Mandarich etc. but if we can't trust our scouts with the 12th pick I really don't trust them with the 25st and 51st pick (just to pick random numbers). On the other hand we could probably trade down and own the whole seventh round to ourselves. You talk about some depth baby !!!

  16. I would rather take the 12th best player in college football and hope he develops in to a difference-maker rather than try to develop--- depth. I like the idea of trying to gather more Lee Evans' and Jim Kellys' on our team. Difference-makers make--- a difference!! I'm not interested in having the best second string in the NFL. Depth can be found in many venues other than the draft. How about a few Pro Bowl worthy players; other than guys that just kick the ball, that is.
