1. I can't believe that the media can't see with a defense (last in the league in third stops last year and horrible against the run) and an offense (pathetic in the redzone) isn't picking us to be a powerhouse! Not to mention an offensive line that must bring tears to opponents defensive coordinators (are those tears from laughing so hard ??).

What exactly has been done to ignite the media into picking them to be anything but subpar. I'm not saying the coaching isn't upgraded but Jauron's Bears had a very simplistic offense (Hopefully with better talent he won't be so vanilla).

The DT'S are unproven and the OL can't be a source of confidence for anyone. I'm just thankful the season is starting so we can see if we have a QB, a defense that can stop a third down and some toughness in the OL. But for anyone to expect the national media to get excited about the Bills due to their moves in the off season....(wow Tutan Reyes, and Melvin Fowler )is simply living in a state of unreality.

    Let the games begin !!!!

  2. 1st and 10 at the 18. (Holding on the kickoff).

McGahee off tackle ... gain of 1.

    2nd and 9 at the 19.

Losman.. swing pass to Shelton.. off his fingertips.

    3rd and 9 from the 19.

Losman sacked by an interior blitz.

    4th and 17 from the 11.

Moorman 56 yard punt to the Patriots 33 return of 9 yards.

Patriots 1st and 10 from their own 42.

Brady 16 yard pass to WR in front of Clements.

    1st and 10 from the Bills 42.

(Several fans chanting for Brady Quinn and wondering if we should tank the Jets games to insure a higher draft pick).

  3. Odomes was a good corner no doubt.  But Terrance Mcgee is a gamebreaker.  As a kick returner, I can't think of anyone I'd rather have.  Dante Hall has nothing on Mcgee.  As a corner, he is an up and comer and hasn't reached his prime yet.  He'll be booking many flights to Honolulu in the future.  For evidence of this all you need look at is the Cinci game last year.  Mcgee practically won the game by himself.  There are very few players in the league that have that kind of gamebreaking ability.  Oh, and Nate is good, but he's not one of them (well in his own mind hes is)

    761135

Don't disagree with you about Clements or McGee. I was only considering CB play when comparing them. McGee is terrific and a valuable commodity. He just isn't the corner (yet) that Odomes was.

  4. Athletically, both Nate and Terrance blow Odomes out of the water. Give McGee some time, he's going to be a good one. Clements is already better than Odomes.

As for lineman, I think you're going to be surprised this year by the line, Peters especially. He has the talent to become every bit the player Wolford was. Will he get there? Too early to tell. But the potential is certianly there.

The Bills are going to surprise some people this year. Both in the NFL and on this board. They are more talented than people seem to think. This team HAS improved from last year by leaps and bounds. How it will all translate on the field with a new system is still to be determined.

    761101

Anybody who thinks they are both athletically superior to Odomes must have been eight years old when Odomes was drafted !!(Sorry. looked at your bio). Odomes was terrific and made great plays and was just as fast as either one of those guys. He also showed up every game. Clements is a great athlete but Odomes was a great football player. As for being surprised at the improvement in the O-line ...It can't help but be better. But that still leaves room for a word to describe them HORRIBLE. Peters may turn out wonderful but you still have four other spots manned by, let's face it, guys that other teams didn't want to keep around.

To be satisfied with mediocrity is to have already lost.

If this doesn't translate to better play on the field then what's the point. A lot of teams are implementing new systems year after year.

I actually hope you are100% right but I just don't see it.

  5. LOL

Coy "soft mouth" Wire will worry every year that he will get cut but every year his outstanding oral capabilites will lead to a roster spot.

Greer gets cut and Wire stays?  Greer made plays last year.

    761074

I thought Greer made the team. Did you mean Baker ?

  6. Bills)I completely understand the optimism. except that .....

1.) WE don't put much pressure on the QB

2.) We are five Offensive linemen away from being able to protect the QB.

3.) We don't give W. McGahee a fighting chance to break tackles without a hole to run through (See #2).

4.) When D. Jauron was with the Bears, the offense had no imagination and was very predictable.

5.) Our best player .. T. Spikes is coming off a bad injury.

6.) We cut G. Jerman... JK.

If we had one area of strength, other than special teams I would be much more excited about the coming season. I just don't see the outstanding talent that it takes to be a top-notch team. We have come to expect mediocrity in our lines. Leon Seals (1990 Bills DE) would be a star on this team. Where has Will Wolford and Howard Ballard and Jim Ritcher gone ? Our OL is pathetic !! T. McGee and N. Clements couldn't hold N. Odomes jockstrap.

The only real optimism is with Lee Evans who, IMHO, could be just as good as another #83, of years gone by. I know I'm just an old foggie (46) but the goal should be to win the Superbowl and I just don't get the feeling this team has what it takes to get it done now (obviously) or in the future. Our players, with some exceptions (T. McGee, A. Schobel) don't seem to develop. So we either are bringing in, consistently less than average players, or... the more likely choice, we consistently have less than average coaching.

I thin six wins would be about right and eight wins would be a pleasant surprise. Anything above that would be incredible.

  7. I don't think we have enough good talent for a shocking cut.

Greg Jerman should be cut. Mario Haggan may be a surprising cut.

Andre Davis could go. Anthony Thomas needs to go. Why is R. Neufeld still on the roster ?

Have any of our "Highly regarded rookie offensive linemen done anything to warrant a roster spot (Pennington, Butler, and Merz) ?

  8. the one thing that may be in are favour is field goals. NE does not have Adam Vanitary (sic) anymore.

    753482

What makes you think they'll be settling for kicking field goals ? The Patriots should win between 11 and 13 games with their weak schedule and are probably in the top seven in the league overall. Can you honestly say Buffalo is clearly better than anyone in the league ? Maybe San Francisco and maybe an arguemnt can be made for Green Bay, The Jets and Cleveland. Final 42-10 Or 35-17 if Losman plays decent.

  9. Did this one in a hurry before packing up/heading out on vacation.

I'm sure y'all will let me know about any typos/other mistakes....

    750311

Thanks for the effort. Appreciate the read. Hope vacation is/was relaxing and safe.

  10. Don't they want something like 2 first rounders for Porter....no thanks....he is a quality WR but not someone I would break the bank for....lets shore up our OL before we blow our load on a WR for something like 5 million a year

    749979

Two first rounders is steep. But I would trade John McCargo and Donte Whitner for him so it doesn't sound so steep when you put names to the picks.

  11. My prediction is the 2 big pieces of this offense that will emerge are Roscoe Parrish and one of the TE's....

NOBODY can cover Roscoe in the slot....I just hope he can stay healthy

    749642

Great observation about Roscoe. My question is do we have the OL and the quality in our QB to allow Evans, Parrish and whomever else wants to step up to the plate to flourish.

I wouldn't be worrying about Evans being a #1 receiver. He shares no resemblence to Peerless Price in ability or character. He is a stud who can get open and has suction cups for hands. He is an all-pro waiting for a QB to happen.

  12. I lost my first pre season game to the Panthers 55-0!!! Every aspect of the Bills sucks for me.  LOL  Tweaked the AI a bit. We'll see what happens against the Bengals

    749894

If the starters had played the whole way that would have been VERY close to the actual score of the real game. Carolina looks to be in a different league than us.

  13. His prediction may not be that far off. I don't think this team is playoff bound. It would be nice if they were, but lets face it people we are rebuilding.

    744230

I don't know why all the talk about rebuilding !! We are just five offensive linemen and a pass rush away from being a contender. I am just pleased that the Bills understood the importance of the OL problem and addressed it with a fifth rounder and two seventh rounders.

With no OL we are wasting Lee Evans , who has incredible hands and speed.

It is frustrating to see Troy Aikman going to the H.O.F. Not that he wasn't outstanding.. but with his line he had the time to read defenses and make good reads. Our QB is too busy running for his life to mature.

Sorry to ramble but I am frustrated AND I know it's just one preseason game but the OL is not being taken seriously if we continue to try and patch it up with late round picks and veterans nobody else wants. Just because M.Williams was a bust doesn't mean you don't take a chance on another highly rated lineman.

  14. ...15-21, 169 yards in one half of play against the Packers Saturday.

He threw a 22-yard touchdown pass (after a 17-yard TD pass was ruled out of bounds) on his first drive.  Led an 86-yard drive to TD in second quarter. QB rating for the game:  111.0

It's just one game, but the guy is going to be good.  It really annoyed me to hear people on the board (who prabably never saw him play) call him a "bust."

    742911

Don't really have an opinion on P. Rivers but the Packers are the only team on the Bills schedule that I count as a sure win. When he performs against Denver and Pittsburgh like he did against the mighty Pack then you can start preparing his bust for Canton.... but the first preseason game .. at home.. against the Packers ..Let's take a deep breath and let the season unfold.

  15. RUSHING

    ATT YDS TD LG

    D. Foster 5 25 0 13

    D. Williams 8 21 0 20

    E. Shelton 4 18 0 11

    A. Haynes 2 13 0 11

    S. LeFors 1 6 0 6

    J. Robertson 1 -1 0 -1

    B. Basanez 2 -3 0 -1

Overall I dont think we did a bad job against the run

23 att  79 yards  3.4ypc and no touchdowns, and personaly I thought the depth at dt looked rather good the obvious being kyle williams. McCargo was also in the opposing backfield making plays on the times I watched him.  I  agree with you about Tim Anderson but I'm willing to give him more then 1 preseason game in the new system before calling for his removal from the starting rotation.

    743961

Beyond Williams and McCargo the depth chart show Jefferson, Sape , Brown and Tupai. That isn't real impressive unless the two rookies pan out quickly(fingers crossed) It's not just this preseason game that I was basing this on. He, IMO, is consistently the weak link when he is out there. He can't seem to penetrate and he certainly doesn't cause the other teams to double team him like DT's in the past.

I really have never seen him do anything to warrant a starting position other than having seniority. But I agree it's still so I remain hopeful

  16. Is it just me or is anyone else out there tired of watching Tim Anderson getting pushed around like a pile of jello. He is not athletic. He is easily pushed out of position and hits the ground too easily. Our depth looks rather pathetic but if he is one of the two best DL's we have, then we are in REALLY bad shape. He provides no pass rush either.

Just what the coaches are seeing, I don't know. The only time we stopped the rush was when Kyle Williams was in there.

Looking to see if I am seeing the same game as you guys are or if I am missing something. Thanks---- GO BILLS
