Well I'm not sure if this is supposed to prove knowledge. I played in high school and one -year of Junior College. At 5'10 180 and only 4.8 speed I think I reached my potential !!
Many of the friends I had in High School that didn't play FB were more knowledgeable than the guys who did. There isn't really a corrolation. I have two friends who played Pro Ball.... Terry Tautolo (Seahawks, Dolphins) and John Tautolo (Pats, Giants,..camp with the Raiders) and they don't even follow the game. In fact, I knew more than John did about the guys on the Patriots... when he was there.. Stanley Morgan, Rick Sanford, Steve Grogan.. that era.
Not sure if someone is trying to make an argument that playing the game should mean your views hold more weight. I think that premise is completely fall.
When I told John that I was concerned the Bills would waste a high pick on a workout warrior like Brodrick Bunkley, like the Bills did a few years ago (Erik Flowers), he had never heard of either guy. So we talked about our kids instead !!

Don't mean to speak for him but the point is we are getting guys that are, at best, quality depth, and they are making they're way to the top of the depth chart. These may be great pick-ups but it appears the Bills have a very low inventory of thoroughbreds and a high collection of nags. Hope I'm dead wrong but this isn't the offseason I was hoping for ..... so far.

I think we will regret passing on guys like Justice (first choice), Davis or Ngata and taking a guy like Bunkley. Guys that move up during the off-season scare me. Plus when I see him on highlights he does not seem dominant at all. He's not a space eater and appears to have trouble getting by big lineman. Was projected to be a 2nd rounder by guys that do this for a living and now he's being talked about as a possible 8th pick in the draft. Oy. I am by no means a draft expert, but at least Ngata would create some double team match-ups, which could free-up an LB or DE to do some damage. I would be very sad if Bunkley is our pick. Just my 2 cents. Thanks

Wonder how many bridge jumpers there were when Trent Green was injured in the last preseason game for the Rams a few years ago. (Rams 23 Titans 16).Not predicting anything like that here but geez the depression on this board is.... depressing

The Bills will have problems this season, but the Jets will be worse. Leinart may become a good NFL qb, but he will be a rookie this season and the Jets will have a poor offensive line.
I am concerned about the Bills. We have too many holes to fill. We had holes to fill before releasing Adams, Milloy and possibly Moulds (plus free agents Teague, Reed, Bannan, and Denny). I am okay with the signings so far, but we need a lot more help. We also need to figure out our qb situation. If JP does not prove to be the guy this year (assuming he gets the chance), we will back at square one.
Did I miss the Draft ?? Didn't know Leinart was a member of the Jets ?

You might be right. But the draft doesn't end in Round 1. It appears this year there are more Offensive Linemen than usual with very high ratings. The 42nd pick (our second rounder) could still give us one hell of a lineman. We need to pick the best player... God knows I don't know who that is. I happen to like Winston Justice as much as Ferguson but I am a minority of one. Justice seems to me a much better run blocker and Ferguson the far superior pass blocker.

I would love to buy an American car. I just don't like spending all my days off at the auto repair shop. If they continue to make inferior products then they should go out of business.

Somebody missed the Robert Royal signing !!!!!!

My point is you put down other fans but naturally you are the "FAN" with the proper perspective that isn't part of the "Tells you how much fans know" group.
There are some people who are not "FANS" of a career back-up who throws a 3-5 yard out on 3rd and 8 but his QB rating goes up. Not mentioning any names, of course.

With this scouting report he sounds very solid and possibly we have a diamond in the rough...
Uhhh that brown, oblong thing that smells REALLY,REALLY BAD.... son.... that's no diamond !! Put it down NOW !!

uhhhhhh......... ok. If he can't open a hole for McGahee I'm just not real interested right now. But thanks for calling !

Robert Royal...the STEAL of the 2006-2007 Free Agent class! All you naysayers will soon feel the power that is Robert Royal. He'll be the first THREE-WAY player in NFL history and lead us to the Lombardi trophy! And anyone who disagrees with me is obviously NOT a fan! How can you NOT be optimistic about this team's future?!?! Let's go BUFFALO!
You must promise to apologize when Royal catches that 100th catch of the season for 1200 yards from our QB of the future....... Omar Jacobs !
-
He sleeps with your woman one time and you won't let up Royal. Next, you'll be saying he can't catch the rock or he's cast-off from a team that is signing everyone who can breathe as a free-agent.
Robert Royal...... Andre Davis... Larry Tripplett.... I thought they were announcing the Pro-Bowl, not the Bills FA signings. These guys are awesome. Thank God Bellichek, Gibbs and Dungy have no ability to discern talented Professionals from those guys jumping at the first team that talks to them 'cuz they know they suck !!!
-
I think they would be picking third... not sure. But I'm more upset about the loss to the Giants in SBXXV than getting a win and moving down a few slots. Even early on, the draft is a crapshoot. #8 may turn out to be a Pro Bowler and #3 just an average Joe.
-
I don't see anyone making any of these 3 out to be world-beating difference-makers... just some good-value signings of complimentary players that may have some upside. If you think about it, just about every FA player was deemed expendable by their teams for one reason or another. Good drafting and being able to keep your key players before they reach free agency are far more important to building a championship team.. something I don't think Snyder will ever learn.
Read the first post if you think nobody is making a big deal about the signings. that's the only reason I posted this in the first place. But as for the rest of what you said ... 100 % agree.
-
Hope you are right. But Joe Gibbs (Royal), Bellichek (Davis) and Dungy (Triplett) are pretty good coaches and didn't feel the need to keep these guys around. And I'm not ready to say this coaching staff is anything to get excited about .But I am hopeful as well.... just not about these three guys.. Later
-
Sorry, but I'd like some of that you are ingesting. These guys are all second rate players that were expendable by their teams. If we don't get an Offensive line and a big upgrade to the defensive line all these "high character guys " will stay out of trouble and... stay out of the playoffs as well.

Unless Ferguson or Mario Williams fall to #8, I say take Winston Justice. Too high ? Very athletic... finishes off his blocks. We get to watch replays of USC and UCLA games here on the Left Coast. Just say nada to Ngata and Huff oh and a big no to Bunkley. He got stopped consistently .... Don't care about the reps at the combine if you can't get past the O'lineman with the pads on, on game day. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.
-
The best safety...my vote goes to Jeff Nixon out of Richmond. Career was shortened by a knee injury but he was excellent in the 1980 season, when we would have gone to the Super Bowl if Joe Ferguson doesn't sprain his ankle.

Ah, ignorrance is truly bliss isn't it?
It's so easy to say, "We need lineman! Me Tarzan, ooh ohh!". But whom?
All you have to do is look at my avatar to see that i'd LOVE to have a lineman. But the bottom line is, Ferguson and Williams won't be there.
So who then all knowing "HAMMER07"? Haloti Ngata? Winston Justice?
Do you know what the drop-off between Ngata and Gabe Watson or Claude Wroten is? Not much. And the latter can be had in the 2nd. And how about the drop off between Winston Justice and Marcus McNeil, Jon Scott, or Max-Jean Gilles? Not much. Same applies here.
And for all you Haloti Ngata fans out there, how many of you have seen him play? I'd say 30% of you at best. You're all just enamored with the fact that we can take the "top-rated DT" in the draft. But i've seen him play when he's healthy (and he's not right now) and let me tell you, he's GREATLY overrated. Geesh, all you had to do was watch Oregon's bowl game to figure that out.
Don't get me wrong, he's good. Maybe better than anything we have right now. But he's not that good.
The bottom line is this: there are only 2 lineman worth taking at 8. The problem being, the rest of the league knows this and D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Mario Williams will be LONG gone (as much as I want them both). So you take Vernon Davis or you take Michael Huff. You still have 3 picks left on Day 1 to load up on lineman. Hell, maybe you trade back into round 1 from round 2 or round 2 from 3. But i'd much rather have Davis and Watson then Ngata.
This post makes me laugh. How much film do you watch ??? There's not much of a drop off between Ngata, Wroten or Watson ? How do you know ? There's not much of a drop-off between Justice, McNeil, Scott or Gilles ? Again, what makes you an expert ? Reading all of these draft pubs ? What Makes Davis so special ? He is great in the weight room and may have great potential. But many experts, such as yourself, think there is not "much" of a drop-off between the first 3-5 TE's. I'll leave it up to the scouts, who may even have better insight than you but a good line (Def. and Off.)will make the whole team look that much better. We have quite possibly the worst OL in football and you want an undersized TE who may not even know how to spell Buffalo. Give me the 15th best player at OL or DL rather than the 8th best player at a position that is not our most pressing need.
If we can't stop the run... our TE isn't much use when he is on the sideline.

While I hope you are right... (been a fan since 1965)but in the words of my favorite basketball player of all-time, Bill Russell, " Youth don't mean #!@$". What we are lacking are difference makers. What we are also lacking is an offensive line that can create a hole bigger than a crack in a sidewalk. Until this is remedied, we are just a team that looks like a bye on our 2006 opponents schedule. And it upsets me to say that. Thanks !
