  1. McNabb didn't even know a regular season game can end in a tie. He is the modern day version of Randall Cunningham. Good, but not great.

Cunningham never elevated a team that had little to no talent at WR RB and TE to championship caliber. The one year he got deep into the playoffs he had Randy Moss, Chris Carter, and a pretty good o-line as well as a decent running game in Robert Smith.

Mcnabb had an average running game and no help at WR or TE as well as an o-line that was great at run blocking but just average at pass blocking and those teams knocked on the door of the superbowl for three seasons and than TO and Westbrook helped them breakdown that door and if it wasn't for TO breaking apart that team they would have at least had two to three more seasons of superbowl contention. And along with that and injuries is what probably cost him the Hall Of Fame unless he puts up another two to three year run of very good play even than he still might not make it.

Not saying Mcnabb was the best but he had four years that were a top ten to five stretch for any qb once again just worth a mention. Another note those years yielded four trips to the NFC championship game and a superbowl loss.

  2. The skill position players rival those teams but the o-line a qb are no where close at least at this point. The o-line is young and could be a good unit. As far as Trent he could be good but it depends on three things one his o-line, two his coaching, and three his ability to stay healthy. He has the mental make up and a good enough arm as well as good accuracy to become a starter caliber qb in the NFL but its up to all those factors.

But this years team has the RB's and WR's to power the offense its up to a young o-line and Trent to make use of that. But the 1991 team did not have this many questions going into the season.

  3. Elway first and Marino second after that its not even close. Look at the Broncos teams he got to the Super Bowl in the 1980's their defense was good but not great and no where near good enough to carry a team and their offense was John Elway everyone else sucked. He carried a bad offense to the Superbowl three times and than when he got talent around him Rod Smith and McCaffrey and Terrel Davis as well as a good o-line he cashed in twice and put up the numbers.

Another player I want to put in as having one of the best four years of any qb ever is Donavon McNabb. In the earlier part of this decade he got a team that had no wide receivers and a good but not great defense to the NFC championship game three times and than once they got him TO he got to the SuperBowl and only lost by three points to a team that was probably cheating.

Just saying that when he had Duce Staley running the ball ( not terrible but mediocre ) and Todd Stinkson and Fredex (who sucked and there was no real tightend either) to throw the ball to. He powered his offense to near championship caliber despite not having any real skill position players. Eagles at that time did have an O-line so its not completely Elway like but just worth noting is all.

  4. That Aikman had all that great talent and cashed in with SB victories is what makes him great and a top 10 QB.

Many QBs get to play with great players and they still never win a SB, plus they have a great defense.

Aikman probably had one of the best defensive teams to play with also, but that doesn't diminish his status.

Yeah Aikman cashed in thats why he is a top 20 qb all time. If you put Aikman on the early 1990's Dolphins he might have a few good years and a few playoff appearances but no where near the numbers Marino had and no where near the constancy and playoff victories and deep runs Marino had. It does take talent to take a great team all the way three times but it doesn't take top ten all time talent to do so.

And name a qb who had talent around him on offense AND a great defense and didn't win a super bowl. Even Kelly didn't have all that.

  5. Looks like a move the bills might actually make. He won't get much interest from other teams so he could come cheap. Like 2.5 million guaranteed with another two million in incentives for two years. It is a move that is worth the risk because there is so little risk involved

  6. They've diminished by his standards, but still pretty good for the most part:

    65.7 % completion rate

    3472 yds

    22 TD

    81.0 rating

That's significantly more production than we're getting from our QB spot!

You forget to mention 22 int's as well as a terrible last half of the season. But with all that if I were a Vikes fan I would want him. The Vikes have a situation that he could work in. The Vikes could try and put Bret in a situation like he had in 2007 where he was asked to do less and it worked.

You think our qb situation is bad. The Vikes have a 40 year old qb coming off of injury who is a much better option than what they currently have.

  7. Then I guess when ESPN, NFL.com and so forth, come out and say that "XYZ" has the toughest or easiest schedule, they have no idea what they're talking about.

They are basing that on the previous year's results. And there is so much turnover in the NFL. All I am saying that the NFL has more teams that go from good to bad and bad to good that you don't know how hard the schedule is at the beginning of the season. Last year the Dolphins and Falcons were looked at as cupcakes and the Jags and Packers were looked at as hard games. It's not that they have no idea its just what they are going off of may not be accurate.

  8. Bills are missing two things for me to say they have a playoff caliber defense. One is an obvious one and thats a solid outside linebacker. But what gives me hope is that there are decent upgrades out there for relatively nothing.

The next thing we need is a big D-tackle to pair up with Stroud. John Henderson seems to be a pipe dream and there might not be much else out there epically for what the Bills would like to give up. A gut like Ryan Pickett would be ideal but I don't think he is on the block. A guy like Docket might be available but the Bills don't want to give up a lot of picks plus dole out an extension even if the guy was actually on the block. I like Kyle Williams but not as a starter he seems more like a situational kind of player. And Spencer Johnson is a rotational player as well.

So a linebacker is a need I hope we address asap because it won't cost us that much. As for DT I think we are going with what we got.

  9. Are there any big free agents available next year. Who knows maybe there will be a Jay Cutler like situation next year. but drafting a QB is a huge commitment and even if Trent falls on his face this year who knows what pick we will finish with. A possibility is we still finish 6-10 or 7-9 and finish with a pick in the 9-12 range of the draft so a top QB might not be availble at that spot.

So its pretty hard to say what we can do because we do not know the circumstances of the next off season. But if I had to put money on it I say we try to go the trade route. If a guy like Cassle ( a back up who plays extremely well ) or Cutler ( a guy who is on the outs with a new coaching staff ) is available than we use a second rounder to pull the trigger on that kind of guy.

But lets hope Trent stays healthy and preforms well. Its up to him and the O-line this year.

  10. I wouldn't say folks get down on the Bills because of the schedule, they get down on the circumstances that seem to keep stacking the odds up against us year after year. I do agree with you however we can't put to much into the schedule. Look at what happened last year, it should have been an easier year with Brady going down and Miami in a rebuilding stage yet New England still beats the Bills twice and Miami wins the division so go figure. I realize the two teams I mentioned are on our schedule every year , but my point is from one year to the next we don't know how well teams will do, we can speculate and with teams like the Patriots we will probably be correct , but luckily for us most teams aren't as consistent as the Patriots are year in and year out.

There is reason for optimism and reason for pessimism. But our whole season pretty much revolves around Trent Edwards and our o-line. I think our defense is going to be between 12-16 in the league a very respectable bunch (as long as they get a linebacker) but nothing spectacular. Our skill position players are set so its pretty much up to our qb and the brand new o-line that protects him to get the job done. and I see why someone would have no confidence in either unit on the offensive side of the ball.

The schedule being difficult is something that is just speculation you don't know if the schedule is hard yet.

  11. Farve didnt exactly have a bad receiving crew. I took the time to list most of the more well known receivers/receiving backs that Farve was privelaged to play with from 97-97 for you.

    Ed West

    Edgar Bennett

    Sterling Sharpe

    Robert Brooks

    Dorsey Levens

    Mark Chmura

    Mark Ingram

    Anthony Morgan

    Don Beebe

    Antonio Freeman

    Keith Jackson

    Desmond Howard

    Andre Rison

    William Henderon

Would you say any of those guys were better than Emmit Smith, Michael irving and Jay novacek its not that those guys were terrible just nothing really good

  12. I hear a lot of people down on the Bills schedule this year and I have to say that after all the reasons to be down on the Bills the schedule is not one of them.

Going into last season most of us played the win loss win loss loss win game when looking at the schedule and did anyone have us losing to the Dolphins twice and beating Jacksonville at Jacksonville and San Diego? The point is that our schedule may look hard now but it won't shake out that way when its all said and done.

There are always sure fire losses that turn into wins and wins that turn into losses. Because of the nature of the NFL being a league where 80% of the teams are average and pretty much just hope to get lucky with in game breaks and injuries the schedule becomes pointless as a barometer for win projection.

  13. If Docket is on the block for a package similar to what we gave up for Stroud than take him. I say a third and a sixth and if they want McCargo as a throw in than take him. I think he is that good even if it took a third and Roscoe Parrish I say make the trade. Docket and Stroud gives this defense an up the middle combo that we have needed for a long time. He is young too so it is not a flashy move either it would make sense even if you had to give up a good amount to get him.

I hear a lot of well lets just get Henderson for a fourth but I don't think he is on the block at this point if he was to be traded would it have already happened. Or Henderson is available but only for the right price which begs the question if we were going to give up that much for a thirty year old DT why not just go after a player who is younger and available for almost as much? I don't think Docket is available either but it sounds more likely that a player who is disgruntled and wants more money would be available. If he is the bills should pounce and add some talent up front.

But yeah the bills won't go after him at all if he wants a big contract. Than again did we expect the TO signing and the front office and coaching staff has to win now plus they got money to spend now that they don't have to show Peters the money

  14. Favre is better than Aikman. No matter how many times you analyze it.

I am no favre fan but yeah its true. Aikman had talent around him all thought out his prime years. Name one big name wideout favre had during his 1994-1997 run where he had his best stats and won a super bowl and played in another. When Favre had a good o-line and Amhed Green to hand the ball off to as well as a decent receiver in Donald Driver he had another stretch run where he put up great numbers and got into the playoffs in 2001-2002 as well as 2004.

Aikman had a good o-line, Emmit Smith who was better than any running back that Favre had. Michale Irving who was better than any wide receiver Favre had and Aikman had a tight end in Jay Novacek that was better than anything favre had. If you put Favre on those Cowboy teams They become a even bigger dynasty getting five to seven championships as well as being a longer dynasty. Aikman was a good qb in a great situation but I wouldn't put him in my top ten all time maybe lower top 20.

  15. Well Pickett would be an upgrade. However I would not give up any picks for him. If he were cut I would offer him some decent offer around three million not much more. He and Stroud starting is solid and getting Kyle Williams in more of a pick his spots kind of role improves him. And than Spencer Johnson is added depth and McCargo is also back in a rotational role is better. If we added Pickett our roster we would be better but not better enough to go out and give up draft picks or a huge contract for him

  16. The Pats go 12-4 with Brady and the vets added from free agency plus a solid draft pats get back to the top

The Jets go 10-6 with a good defense a ground game they keep the pats honest and get to the playoffs but with a rookie QB they pretty much get as far as they could go.

The Bills go 8-8 TO and a few good draft picks help the bills break the trend of 7-9 but the bad news is it was only one game and the o-line is a weakness early on.

The Dolphins go 6-10 the step back that comes after the two steps froward.

A lot of people are down on the Jets and too high on the Dolphins. As much as I hate the Jets I think that their D is good and has the right guy manning it. As far as their offense goes they will just manage the game. I think that they will take the approach the Fins had last year and try not to loose games. While thats no way to win a championship you can win games and get to the playoffs doing that philosophy.

As for the bills 8-8 is only with the roster they currently have I think that there will be an addition or two before camp and if they get Levi Jones or an upgrade at linebacker than I would be more willing to go on a 9-7 prediction and if they get Henderson somehow on top of that than 10-6 would be more accurate.

But yeah with what they have 8-8 is my prediction.

  17. Is that true? I wouldnt have guessed that ever.

Yeah it is, I live in New Jersey and I was listing to the Max Kellerman show which if you know anything about New York New Jersey sports radio should still be on and he got that stat from the Elias Sports Bureau. I looked into it and its true. Check for your self. Think about it every time Bret is about to stage a comeback he throws a big pick that pretty much kills the come back

  18. Bret Favre is a lower top ten qb all time but still the most overrated player all time in any sport. The value he has comes from two places one his ability to stay on the field and with Trent we know how valuable that is. Second he was genuinely a great qb from 1994 to 1997 and 2001 - 2002 as well as 2004 and 2007. His prime years and that record are what catapult him into that top ten status.

But Favre is one guy who should not be near the top five. Since 2002 he has been overrated he was a good qb who faded into an average one and the one last good year he had in 2007 ( his last year with green bay ) was the year his team asked him to manage the game. Favre was loved by the media and for good reason up until these last few years where his dickish nature was revealed he seemed like a really nice guy.

But that love was what made him overrated towards the end of his career he started to fade and balls that he would have jammed in for a TD were now being intercepted but the media would write it off saying it was the receiver's fault or that he was just trying to make things happen and it didn't pan out. He should have retired in 2004 or 2007 off of good years

As for all those records for TD's and yards he had those because he hung around three to four years too many. That year the Packers went 4-12 and he threw 30 picks he was just sad and than the next year when the Packers went 8-8 he looked like a second year qb who was just average.

Once again not saying bret is not a great qb but there are about nine or eight qb's that I would take before him thats all. I don't want a guy who has never at any point in a game never come back from a 14 point hole ever in his career.

  19. Well of course they are going to say that. No team is ever going to say well he sucks and we will be lucky if he is an average blocker. I think that nelson with given time to add some muscle to his frame and work at blocking could become a good blocker at best very good. but as for this year i think if he turns into a respectable blocker by the second half of the season than i will be happy

So yeah a team is going to have a good maybe even inflated view of their own talent. Now if another team or scout from another team said that than thats a headline

  20. You know the vikings qb situation is bad when a 40 year old washed up bret farve who is coming off of surgery is by far a better option than all of the qb's on their roster. If i were a vikes fan i would want bret but as a game manager much like he was in his last year at green bay when they were one game away from the super bowl

  21. OK, How can a Bills fan be happy with what we see, our team is a train wreck!

    1) "O" line is a disaster.. Our center was never an NFL starter, our projected guards are both rookies.. One tackle was a guard last year and the other tackle is OK at best

    2) Our #1 pick was projected as a late first rounder.. He played 1 year of college and has a skillset of Chris Ellis.

    3) Our second round pick was a CB to be converted into a safety..

    4) Our rookie TE is a 4th rnd pick.. If he was a second rnd pick he would have been drafted in rnd 2 or maybe 3rd.. Hard to believe he'll make a difference.

Other factors'; we lose an all-pro T, we have no decent left lb, we have an unproven QB, oh yes, the Bills tiks will sell and sell and we'll miss the playoffs AGAIN.. another prediction after an 0-3 start, jauron will say to be "patient" because the line is unfamiliar with each other and Trent isn't used to T.O... We finish 3-13, "changes" are made, we sell out AGAIN etc. etc. etc.

I hope I'm wrong, but the above makes a lot of sense to me IMO.

Yeah thats pretty much the worst case scenario. But every team in the NFL with the exception of the Pats and Steelers pretty much have a series of off season moves that can go wrong. Just look at the jets they could get old fast and their offense has a rookie qb and no targets and their o-line has a few injury risk on it with no real depth.

The Dolphins have that similar doomsday scenario. What if Joey Porter gets old and the rest of the defense follows suit. They invested too much in their secondary. and their qb is a walking injury waiting to happen. and they have no wide receivers and the league catches up to the wildcat. Every team can go 3-13 or 11-5 its just what goes right and what goes wrong. Its the Nfl most teams are mid level teams who pretty much count on the luck of the draw.

  22. The DT position is a position of Concern. Stroud is a stud but he is a year older so the possibility for injury and a decline in play are higher. As for the rest of the DT's on the team they seem to be nothing to inspire confidence. Williams seems better suited for situational playing and McCargo and Johnson seem like they are average at best.

I think it was just wishful thinking to think Henderson would be traded for a fourth or even a third. He would have been a real force but it looks like that rumor was just pulled out of the sky.

  23. I hate when people look at the schedule and do win loss win and than put a cap on wins. There are always two to three games you put as a sure fire win that suddenly become hard games. And than you look at two to three sure fire loses and they turn into wins.

did anyone at the beginning of last season think we would have lost to Miami twice or beat Jacksonville at Jacksonville and San Diego . So I don't put much stock into using a schedule to rate wins and loses I just take a look at my roster and the division rivals and see who is the best or where the bills rank. And right now I see the bills right around the Jets and Fins but still short of the Pats
