  1. His election to the Pro Bowl was a joke - it frequently is with linemen, especially offensive linemen. The Bills need to realize they hold the cards here. Peters still has two more years on his deal and then we can franchise him into eternity and still pay him less than he's asking. The Bills FO should make him aware of that, make him aware of how much he sucked last year, make him aware of how much he hurt the team with his actions, and make him aware of the Mike Williams debacle and how we're not going to allow that to happen ever again. Then sign him to a potentially lucrative, but incentive-laden deal. That should be non-negotiable.
  2. No way. If someone else wants to pay him that much trade him for a first and third, or something comparable. After his performance last year I would be inclined to give him an incentive-laden contract (i.e. say $10M/year minus $300,000 for each sack he gives up). I don't want him to get fat(ter) and lazy(ier) once he signs a big deal. We all saw what kind of shape he was in last year. Matt Light (NE) made $4M last year. Who was the better tackle last year? Exactly. D'Brickashaw Ferguson (NYJ) made $5.4M last year. Who was the better tackle last year? Exactly. His hold out with three years left on his deal and his subsquent refusal to show up for the pre-season (and even for the first regular season game) shows what kind of teammate he is. If we can get multiple high draft picks for him then grab them. Our best alternative is to sign him to a contract that isn't front-loaded with millions of dollars and that incentivizes him to play at the level he did in 2007.
  3. You guys are missing perhaps the biggest point: why would Denver want Jason Peters anyway? They have Ryan Clady playing LT and he's young and good. Not to mention this whole thread is just retarded...
  4. Well the league minimum is a bit harsh, but otherwise I agree with everything you said. He's worth $3M/year to me for 2-3 years. Otherwise, let him walk. Again, it's not our fault he walked away from $6M in guaranteed money. He should fire his agent.
  5. Sidbury in the 2nd round? Are you on drugs? If he's still around in the sixth, sure. Raji in the first? We don't need a DT that badly. Orakpo or E. Brown in the first. Chase Coffman in the third? How about Jared Cook or Shawn Nelson in the 2nd at TE (assuming Pettigrew is gone). Waters for a 4th rounder would be a steal. I'd love to see them throw in T-Gon for a 3rd rounder and a conditional 2010 pick.
  6. Why not? Good money says Buffalo was a ploy to get more money out of Miami. We saw how that worked out.
  7. Ummm...I was just quoting the Newark Star-Ledger. Don't shoot the messenger...
  8. Are you kidding me? Clements wasn't worth $80M over 8 years, that's known league-wide. My only gripe is that they didn't get a first day pick as compensation. Winfield was a 5'8" CB who couldn't cover the league's (and the division's) bigger WR's. Had a lot of heart, but Minnesota gave him a huge deal, more than he's worth. Fletcher could have gone either way - I liked him, but he was getting up there, and I'd rather see a guy like Poz develop with the rest of this young squad than have a "Weekend at Bernie's" type aging MLB like Fletcher. I really like Greer but he is overrated. He had two picks last year and played in a zone scheme. Remember when the Saints paid all that money for Jason David from Indy to play man? That didn't work out so well. The only name on your list I regret letting go (and who I didn't want to let go in the first place) is Pat Williams. We should have matched Minnesota's offer. Him next to Sammy Adams was a force.
  9. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  10. I'm not going to respond to this more than once because you don't make any sense, but I don't think Washington has won their division in like ten years, making the playoffs as a wildcard team occassionally. And I can think of many, many teams who have success year in and year out and don't spend money like a teenager at the mall every off-season (NE, Indy, Denver, SD, NYG, Pitt to name just a few).
  11. From the Newark Star-Ledger (http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/03/safety_jim_leonard_visits_new.html): "On another front, I talked to the Laveranues Coles camp Sunday and the Bills want him badly. They want to team him with the speedy Lee Evans. Coles would be the intermediate receiver while Evans would be the deep threat. Makes sense." I've also read that Buffalo was offering more money than Miami was going to offer before they decided to, well, not offer him anything at all. I got the impression they were offering something in the $6-7M range, and to me that's way overpaying for a 31 year old glorified possession receiver on the downside of his career. I'd personally rather go into camp with up to 10 WR's (that's right, ten: Evans, Parrish, Reed, Hardy, Jenkins, Johnson, P.K. Sam, Huggins, C.J. Hawthorne, and maybe K. Washington) and see who emerges.
  12. Not if Laveranues didn't want to come to Buffalo and was trying to make an old girlfriend (Miami) jealous. I can just imagine him like "seriously? I'm going to play in Buffalo? How the hell did this happen?? I left NYC for Miami and something went wrong..."
  13. I agree. Certainly not at his asking price of $6M+/year. Maybe at half that he could be a nice #2 WR for a few seasons. Not sure why OBD is falling all over themselves over this guy; Miami certainly wasn't.
  14. That...doesn't make any sense. The Redskins have sunk nearly billions into free agents and have what to show for it? An 0-3 playoff record in the completely arbitrary timespan you devised? Yeah...
  15. If Holt is seriously a candidate to be released then give up a late round draft pick for him (6th or 7th) and work out a new 3-4 year deal with him. Everyone on this board is clamoring for the Bills to sign Coles - Coles isn't the receiver Holt is, and never was. Holt has always been bigger (well, only by an inch), faster, and plain better than Coles: 1,000 yard seasons: Holt 8, Coles 3 TD's: Holt 74 (over 10 seasons), Coles 44 (over 9 seasons) average per catch over last two seasons: Holt 12.643, Coles 11.968 catches: Holt 869 (over 10 seasons), Coles 631 (over 9 seasons) This isn't even close.
  16. Um, did anybody see what Miami's Andre Goodman signed at?? http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_11815119 This guy had three more interceptions than Jabari Greer last year and isn't much older. This should (although it probably won't) bring the FA market for cornerbacks (especially those who play in a zone (see: David, Jason)) back down to reality. I'd have no problem offering Greer the same deal, even if this guy outplayed Greer this season.
  17. My point was that just because a guy doesn't have a great first season doesn't mean he isn't a good WR. Sorry I couldn't find an exact replica of Steve Johnson's stats in a previous player...
  18. So I hear Miami isn't interested? That should lower our asking price. Offer him 3 years at $9 with three million guaranteed. Take it or leave it. Not our fault you left $6M in guaranteed money at the Jets. If you don't like it we'll let the remaining guys compete. By the way, anyone figure out how this will play out if he signs?? We can't possibly carry 7 WR's. Who's the odd man out? That's why I liked the idea of bringing Kelley Washington in - he could play specials and had more upside at WR than Justin Jenkins. If Coles signs we've got him, Evans, Reed, Parrish, Jenkins, S. Johnson, and Hardy. They won't cut a 2nd round pick after one season, Evans is here to stay, Reed established himself last year as a go-to guy, Parrish has great value in the return game, S. Johnson showed promise, and Jenkins just got re-signed to play specials. Coles doesn't play specials, and you can't ask any of the other WR's (except maybe S. Johnson) to play kick-off coverage. Thoughts?
  19. I don't want him for much more than $3M/year either. In fact, not a dime over that. He walked away from $6M guaranteed? He should fire his agent.
  20. I love how people on this board just throw things around like "well if he'll get us a few more touchdowns, do it!" You don't throw $6M a year at a veteran past him prime into a mix of young people for "a few touchdowns. C'mon, people. What is the excitement over this guy? Why so quick to discard two young talents like Hardy and S. Johnson after just one season?
  21. Some of you guys are RETARDED, I'm sorry. Remember Jimmy Smith? He caught zero passes in his first two years with the Cowboys. His third season (first with the Jags), he caught 22 balls for 288 yards. Keenan McCardell had zero catches for zero yards his first year with Washington. He had one catch for eight yards his second season when he went to Cleveland. His third season he caught 13 catches for 234 yards and in his fourth season he caught just ten passes for 182 yards. Chad Johnson had 28 catches for 329 in his first season with Cincinatti. T.J. Houshmandzadeh had 21 catches for 228 yards in his first season, 41 for 492 yards in his second, and none in his third. Don Beebe only caught 28 passes for 538 yards over his first two seasons with Buffalo. Don Hutson - called the greatest wide receiver EVER by some - caught only 18 passes for 420 yards his first season with Green Bay. Should I go on? All you freakin' fantasy players and stat nerds. This isn't baseball. Steve Johnson was highly touted out of Kentucky, actually. 7th rounders and undrafted players succeed all the time. Let him compete with Hardy and maybe a FA acquisition. Getting an old speed receiver on the downside of his career isn't the answer.
  22. But seriously, is this even a conversation? Cutler is a top-five QB in this league (P. Manning, Brady, Cutler, Roethlisberger, Rivers), Edwards isn't even a top-ten QB (previous five plus E. Manning, Rodgers, Warner, Cassel (sad but true, at least at this moment), maybe Romo then maybe McNabb).
  23. hahaha...who's better, Trent in high school or Dan Marino in his prime? How about Trent Edwards vs. a team of mini-Ditkas??
