Excellent post.  Hit the nail on the head. Stats only tell part of the story here.  Knox has improved each year and is poised to take another step.  It takes time to grow a tight end.  TEs that are ready to play and contribute out of college are a rare commodity. Knox is there now and the Bills do not want to start over.  He plays a critical role on the team and will likely see an even bigger role going forward.  This contract will look like a bargain in two years.

These are really good points.  I would add the lack of a proven backup to Knox as another reason to re-sign Knox.

  2. The playing field has finally leveled off in New England.  Belichick is a very good coach perhaps the best ever.  However he no longer has Brady at QB, perhaps the best player ever, who they got for a 6th rd pick and never was paid at market value.  Since Brady was "underpaid" they were able to afford other good players who under normal circumstances would have played somewhere else.  Also players wanted to play with Brady and did so for less money.  It was the perfect storm.  Also throw in there the AFC East competition was incredibly incompetent during most of that time.  I know people are starting to doubt Belichick now but not me.  If they get someone who can evaluate talent they could be tough.  Patriots have had poor drafts lately.

These "13 seconds" that gets referenced were truly emblematic of that Bills season, not a stand alone occurrence. As such, I was never upset at those 13 seconds as it was who the Bills were last season.  Actually, I remain perplexed that there were larger screw-ups that season that impacted us missing the superbowl way more than the 13 seconds that gets overlooked.  Cases in point:

    (1) The 4th quarter 4th down play versus Pittsburgh in the season opener. Inexcusable on every level. Who calls that play?

    (2) The Jaguars game. The Bills showed they were not quite ready to be "the team".

    (3) The Colts game. An epic let down at an important part of the season, at home.

Interesting that some posters assume if the Bills win in KC they go to the superbowl, well reality indicated quite convincingly that Cinncinnati would have had something to say about that. Plus, to me at least, wide right remains the "bar" of emotions that would rise to being "upset".

In sum, the extent of being upset indicating your level of fandom is delusional, at best. They simply were not ready, and proved it multiple times last year. The key is, did they learn those lessons and will they apply them this year. I think they will.  Go Bills.

I agree.  Last season was a very uneven one.  Some really bad losses where the game was lost at the line of scrimmage.  We'll find out soon if the changes made were the right ones.

One thing I really like about the older games is that there are very few onscreen graphics.  I hate the tickers and all the crap they overlay on the screen.  It's very distracting and takes up screen real estate.  I just want to see the game without all of that snazzy stuff.  It's a much better viewing experience and really keeps you focused on the game.

I'm old enough to remember games where the score was only shown on the screen when the game went to commercial break.  It could be a few minutes if not more before you knew the score.  I'll take today's graphics.  It gives me the option of muting idiots like Chris Collingsworth and Troy Aikman.

  5. So, is Singletary gone after this season, regardless of how good a year he may have?  To me, extending Oliver would be first priority, but then you have Poyer, Edmunds, Knox along with a possible Davis extension. They can't re-sign all these guys.  Drafting a RB in the 3rd rd with little likelihood of re-signing him appears to contradict Beane's mantra of draft, develop, and re-sign your guys.  I mean it doesn't look likely that Moss gets re-signed either when his deal runs out.  Like others pointed out, too much value being expended at RB position.  The water is a little muddy in the RB room.

Agreed and it is because it telegraphs what the Bills are running. Put Zack Moss out there he can run a route or he can stay in and pass protect. If defenses are able to key in on "it's Cook, it is basically empty formation because they are not going to keep him in the block" then that is gonna prevent him getting on the field as much as he should.

Now that the games count, I'm curious to see if Bills run 21 personnel and have Cook put in motion or have him split out wide after initially lining up in backfield.  Try to give defense initially a run look and then try to create a mismatch in the pass game I.e. LB covering Cook.

I can really sympathise with Kim. Sad fact, my feed for the Bills is slightly behind for the televised games so, if I read something bad is going to happen on here, I quickly turn off.

If I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen.

If I’m watching a replay, and I know we’ve won, I’m not so fussed.

Have you ever tried watching a Bills game with the sound turned off?  I do this at times and the games are less stressful to watch.

Beasley, Sanders, Williams, and Star are vets on the downside of their career.  They helped stabilize the Bills' roster when Beane was tearing it down and building it back up and were solid free agent contributors.  In each case Beane found younger players to do the job for less at the same or close to the same level.  I think it's just the normal churn of an NFL roster in the salary cap era and nothing more.

Replaced by younger, cheaper players with more athletic upside.  Von Miller being the exception.

Yeah, the classic rock stations just play the same ***** over and over. Finding a station with deep cuts is better or a college station. We have 88.5 here and they are pretty diverse.

The last Great Sabbath Lp... with no hits lol.

So true.  They just pound the same songs into the ground.  The Stones have over 400 original songs.  In DC, you hear about 20 of them.  It's really the radio stations and their programming that's the issue.

Eh... Sabbath music, up to and including Sabotage is pretty excellent... not in the same world as eagles/boston. I'll check it out for sure, even if he's hanging on to a guard rail.

The crap "music" they are putting out nowadays sucks, it's just horrible.

Years ago, Ozzie was on a TV commercial where he says "What's a Bieber?"  Today's music pure garbage

Thought I just read he was back in England.  He did not look well.  I think he just did a live performance with Tony Iommi ... Ozzy needed a guard rail around him to stand straight.  I hope he does play, he is awesome.

He's moving back to England sometime in January.

OJ Howard is my least favorite move. Especially hearing Beane say it came down to the wire. If it was such a tough choice I would have kept him and put Sweeney or Morris on the PS. Paying him anyway so could have cut him anytime if needed.

I think it was tough for Beane because Sweeney and Morris likely would have been claimed off waivers leaving Beane no choice but to cut Howard.  Not a good look for Beane.
