  1. So you think Mack/Pettigrew at #25 is a great pick but at #11 you're a retard?

People that think like that are the real retards, because you're getting the same player no matter where you pick. If you want the guy, take him. He's rated as a 1st rounder, it doesn't matter where in the 1st round he goes. If you're taking a 2nd or 3rd rounder at 11, then maybe there's a problem. But those guys have 1st round grades for chrissakes, so go ahead and pick a player you don't want because Mack/Pettigrew is a "reach" 10 spots ahead of where you THINK they might go.

    Dude,

Not all first rounders are the same. All you have to do is look at Whitner who the Bills took with the 8th overall pick and Haloti Ngata who the Ravens took shortly after the Bills a few years back. The pundits had Whitner as a low first rounder. There is no comparison at this point regarding the impact Ngata has had with the Ravens and Whitner with the Bills. Ngata is a beast and it makes me sick everytime I see him play because the Bills should have drafted him. Not some freaking safety. Now that is retarded!!!!!

  2. The NFL really ticks me off. I know this post is about Frank Reich and I hope that he does well; he's a total class act. The reason the NFL gets me so upset is because of the hiring system put in place. Before I go any further I would like to tell everyone that I am not a racist and that some of my very good friends are African-American. How does the NFL allow Jim Caldwell to become the head coach of the Colts without even interviewing a white guy??? Why is it that the ONLY rule in place is that a black man gets interviewed? The NFL does not care if a hispanic, latino, white, or chinese guy gets interviewed, as long as one of the candadites is black. When Marvin Lewis got hired in Cincinnati it was the same deal. Lewis got hired before a white guy was even interviewed. The Detroit Lions got chastised when they chose Mariucci a few years back and didn't follow the league guidelines to bring in a black man for an interview. The bottom line is that I think the teams should interview and select who they want. I really have no problem with the Colts wanting Caldwell. My problem is that the NFL allows the system to only work in order to benefit blacks and that is not fair. Blacks probably make up 85% of the NFL players but how come white people aren't bitching about how teams are drafting mostly black players and picking up mainly black free agents. How come we don't have a rule to say that a certain number of white players need to be brought in to camp prior to the cut down. Why? because that would be rediculous. Teams have the right to choose who they think are the best players to bring to camp and therefore they should be allowed to interview who they feel are the best HC canadites as well. Fair is Fair...

It's called Reverse Disrcrimination and it is not just limited to the NFL. Like you, I have friends who are African American.

  3. The center position is the Bill's biggest need. Most teams can get away with not having a good center, in the AFC East however, C is extremely important. Miami, NE, and the Jets all play 3-4 defenses with stud nose tackles. Wilfolk, Jenkins, and Furgenson not only stuffed the run against us, but the collapsed the pocket when the Bills attempted to pass. To counter these players we need a strong talented center. This player could very well be a converted tackle or guard. Most college teams do not put their most talented lineman at center, because often, there is no one lined up across from them. Due to this fact, they value intelligence and quickness over strength and toughness. Fowler and Preston could be fine players in most other divisions. The bills were 7-3 outside of the division with 2-3 losses coming to 3-4 defenses. That means they went 0-8 against the 3-4. Bring in a better center, and they will start competing with those teams.

Offensive line to include center is the biggest weakness for the Bills. Think of all the 3rd and 1's and 2's where they threw the ball instead of running it. It wasn't play calling. It was because the coaches had no confidence in the OL to pick up the first down running the ball. Besides if you have a strong offensive line it hides many weaknesses on a team. When the Bills were making the Super Bowls they had a strong offensive line. Yeah they had Kelly Thomas Reed Smith et al but the offensive line was the key. It gave time and holes for the playmakers to make plays. Edwards Lynch Evans Shobel aren't nearly as talented as the other HOFers above but the offensive line is pathetic compared to OL that were making the Super Bowls.

  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but by my count the Bill's played eight games against opponents who use the 3-4 as their base defense. In those eight games (against SD, Cleveland, Miami, NYJ and NE) they had an unenviable 1-7 record. I think it's naive to discount that we were 6-2 against all of our other opponents.

Now it's not unheard of for something like this to happen. In fact, the Peyton Manning-led Colts have a bit of a history of struggling against the 3-4.

So I'm wondering...is this something that can be corrected with time? Does it have anything to do with the fact that we have a relatively young team with a young QB who needs to learn how to read and react to the myriad of different looks the 3-4 offers? Or is this the result of a flaw in our offensive philosophy?

Our offense is essentially a modified version of the Vermeil/Martz offense with more emphasis on the run, and that team ultimately fell to the Patriots' 3-4 in Super Bowl XXXVI. I'm not sure of that offense's overall record against 3-4 defenses, though.

Or maybe is it the type of players we're employing in our current offense? Should we go for the quicker, more nimble zone blocking type of lineman to combat mobile linebackers featured in a 3-4 defense? Do we need a more seasoned "true" fullback to keep linebackers from shooting the gap on running plays?

So without getting into the truly enthralling discussions about how Ralph Wilson eats babies and Dick Jauron has the personality of a baked potato, what do you think our team can do to get better against the 3-4, a.k.a. our Achilles heal?

They need to acquire a dominant center (either free agency or draft) to deal with the NT in a 3-4 defense. This would be a big step in the right direction. Remember Kent Hull. He was the last decent center for the Bills.

  5. Yep.

When you can't run the ball or stop the other team on defense, you try to win the game through the air. Don't see what's so confusing about it. A completion there ends the game.

Does anybody really think Addai would have picked up the first down on a run? I don't. As the above poster said, it goes to show you the primitive thinking regarding play calling: good if it works, bad if it doesn't.

I don't think anybody was bitching about the play-calling when the Colts took 7 minutes off the clock on their previous drive by mixing runs and passes, or when Arizona sealed their win today by throwing the ball on their last drive.

I'm with you - go for the first down and the win. I would have preferred a RB in the backfield to make the defense defend the possibility of a run. Nice to watch a game where there were no wasted timeouts or horrible clock management etc.

  6. It's a good question. I think there's often a tendency to overestimate how accurately online opinion reflects the opinion of the average person, but the response has been so overwhelmingly negative I can't believe it isn't echoed in what people are saying around WNY and the region. Maybe it's just the echo chamber effect really distorting things, but this feels different to me from any other time I've seen fan discontent.

I've been following the Bills for 40 years and this year's sense of fan frustration is different than other years. Fans seem quite disappointed, angry, and disgusted. I'm disgusted with Jauron. He may be a great guy but he is a horrible head coach.

  7. Not me, I am done too. I live in Carolina so thats my new team. Ive been a die hard fan for 37 years and I am done with Ralphy Boy. Go Panthers.

The Panthers have a good team and a good coach. Fox was available when your former team (Bills) took Gregg Williams. That's what gets me about the Bills. They (Wilson and front office) keep screwing up time and time again. Bunch of losers!

  8. I've only thought of a few thus far. I'm sure the creative people here will do much better.

Buffalo Bills Football: We sell beer.

Buffalo Bills Football: Hey, you never know.

Buffalo Bills Football: You want a Mike or a Bill, but you'll take a Dick.

Buffalo Bills Football: You make the call. Come to the game or stay home! Jauron Blows!!!

  9. I'm frustrated as all get out just like most of you. I've been watching this team for 40 years and today is one of the hardest days as a fan. I think it may be the hardest because I see little cause for optimism. After previous lows in team history finding cause for optimism was more visible and I was able to persevere just like you. Today it is hard because there are so many weaknesses and/or problems with this team including the owner. Going to the stadium and being with my dad, brother, friends and the rest of the fans is a great experience and maybe that is where we need to focus. The team with DJ as coach will continue to underperform and will drive us nuts. But the fans are great!

Go Bills fans! Happy New Year!
