  1. As of right now, 7-9 looks like a miracle.

Because the Bills haven't made the playoffs lately, my brother and I bet on an over/under for the number of Bills wins in a season. This keeps us somewhat interested despite another bad year. I'm thinking about setting the over/under at 4.5 wins this year. The schedule, on paper, is tougher than last year and the team seems to be in a death spiral right now. :D

  2. I thought I heard, somewhere, that by releasing Dockery before some deadline in March (I think the 10th, I am not sure) the Bills avoided having to pay Dockery a 1.8 million dollar roster bonus. But the date was a few weeks away still. There is still rumors out there that the Cowboys may cut Terrell Owens, by that same date, to avoid paying his roster bonus for the 2009 season.

I believe I read the same article about Dockery getting a bonus in the near future. Even if the Bills FO messed up, which I'm not sure they did, it is a step in the right direction getting rid of Dockery. He was horrible last year.

  3. You kinda have to smile when the Bills priority target is a guy that is dead last on the list.

It is early but here's a little trend that I see. Bills let JP go via FA and he was rated the 8th best FA QB. Bills sign Fitzpatrick 20th best FA QB. Fowler and Preston are rated bettter centers than Hangartner. I thought there was no way but up for this team! :w00t:

  4. To my fellow frustrated Bills fans. I know the front office comes across as inept to many of us but if they are going to turn it around they need to go about it in a smart manner. Signing a marquee FA would get people excited but it would also prevent the Bills from signing others positions of need. Look for them to sign 2nd tier players in the upcoming days. The tested way to improve an NFL team is through the draft. Here's to a good draft. Cheers!

  5. Ok, so we signed someone to be our 2nd string QB. Why is everyone up in arms? We already knew Losman was out. We filled a need and got a good enough player to fill the role.

So what if Scout has him ranked at #20. We signed him to be a backup, of course his ranking will be low.

This is just the 1st day of FA and there are plenty of players out there. Relax.

Everyone is in arms because whether you like Trent or not - the guy tends to get hurt. Plus I was hoping that they would bring in a guy who is proven and could be a mentor to Trent. Someone like Garcia, Batch, Brad Johnson, maybe even Leftwich.

  6. I understand a majority here dont like him because hes a gunslinging QB whos alwasy looking for the big play. He can be a quality starter in this leaugue in the right system. Buffalo didnt have the right system for him since we are looking for a dink and dunk QB/ a game manager so to speak. Jp wants to make plays either with his arm or his feet. He has improved he just needs more improvement in how to hold the ball in pressure situations. Minnesota seems like a likely spot since they were mentioned as trade parteners last season. The jets could also be a good spot for him as well since they too like the gunslinger.

I will go out on a limb here and say this is the one QB we are losing that will comeback and kick us in the butt.

Are you kidding me? You did see the Jets game in the Meadowlands? All he had to do was hold onto the damn ball but no he fumbled and the Bills lost. The guy has zero game awareness, no pocket awareness, and he is a knucklehead. He can throw the deep ball but even then he's not an accurate passer. If he lands with another team and he plays against the Bills, the Bills will win every time even if DJ is the coach and we waste all of our timeouts!

  7. While everyone is dreaming of a Jason Brown/Jeff Saturday pick-up, I'd be curious to see how this board would react if we didn't get either one of them and landed up with someone like this.

    http://www.carolinagrowl.com/Read.aspx?Story=1041

This is the type of player I think the Bills will sign because they need two starting OL. I don't think they will be willing to sign two stud offensive linemen. Maybe one marquee name and a guy like this - a relatively unknown with some starting experience.

  8. I think the Bills lose out on both Brown and Birk.

Dont be surprised though if one of the "first day signings" tomorrow end up being Brad Meester or Jake Grove, one of the second tier Centers on the market. The sign a veteran FA, draft a Center and let them battle it out in camp. My money is on Brad Meester, he's got a lot of starting experience under his belt and is used to playing in a run-first offense.

Also, the Bills will sign Brandon Moore, methinks.

First of all. Malta as in the island country south of France? Or some small town USA? Signing a veteran center would be a good move. Need a little help on Brandon Moore. What's his deal?

  9. It sounds like you don't make more than $250k but let me ask you would you be ok with the government taking more money from you if it was for the greater good?

No. Here's why. I work for the government and they waste money left and right. They have meetings all the time and nothing gets done the way it should the first time around. Then they have more meetings to unscrew what they screwed up in the first set of meetings! And so on. Less government is better. Businesses create real jobs and the government should help them so they can create more jobs and hire more people.

  10. I couldn't care less if Marshawn walked into the locker room before each game, hung up his double-holstered .45 sleeves in his locker, hit a 3-foot water bong he keeps next to his cleats, and then dog-cursed the people of Buffalo as he warms up. If he gives every bit of himself out there on the field (as it certainly appears he does) then he's OK in my book. And as long as no one gets hurt -- and don't give me the Canadian girl incident, as clearly the details of that night are pretty damn shaky -- we should all just relax.

Of course he's going to be a Bill next year! Are you all nuts. He might not even miss a single game. These are minor charges. They let Leonard Little play in this league; he killed someone, on his like 3rd DUI. People are beating their wives and assaulting people and still making it out on the field. Open your eyes. This is no big deal, ya bunch of Chicken Littles.

Damn straight. This whole thing with Marshawn is bush league. Let's talk about some true blue thugs like Manson and that idiot Dahmer. Give him the damn ball! :nana:

  11. Yes absolutely. His off the field issues don't mean anything. he either gets suspended or he doesn't. Marshawn is a good guy from what i can tell. Everyone loves him on the team. The coaches love him. Marshawn makes poor choices due to his upbringing. He doesn't have a father from what i can gather, he grew up in poverty on the streets of oakland. People including the Brass of the NFL expect these players to change overnight. I am sorry but there isn't a on/off switch. Marshawn needs support from friends, famity, and a father figure in his life. I realize that alot of people seem to think that Money should make him behave. Human is human and no amount of money will change that.

Maybe all of the Bills fans should get together and give Marshawn a group hug! :nana:

  12. What happened to all the talk about Chase Coffman? I still think he is a top TE. But there seems to be a lot of options here for the Bills to jump on. Pettigrew, Coffman, Cook, Casey, Nelson.. Even Bear Pascoe, and dont forget about Travis Beckman who was injured most of the year. There are plenty of options out there, whether we need more of a blocker or pass catcher they are there.

I think that with all the TE's and Centers (Mack, Unger, Luigs, Caldwell, Wood, and Shipley) this year that the Bills would be dumb to not draft the top TE in rd 2 and top C in rd 3 or vica versa. I really think the value will be there and the need is there without question. I would hate to hear the reasoning for passing on one of those guys to take another DB or some other player who is less talented and not as big a need...

I guess this assumes we fix our pass rush in round 1 then. Thats fine with me.

I think you have it right. 1st round draft either a DE or a pass rushing LB. Then take either a TE and C in rounds 2 and 3.

  13. You are using a format that is *'ed i.e. *1/1/2009 switch the column to the format without an asterisk and your dates will go in as entered. With the asterisk your date formating is affected by the operating system and it will automatically enter anything in the range of 00 -29 as 2000 - 2029. seriously this is the fix.

    You da man!

  14. Hiring Nix was a good move for the front office. They lacked talent evaluators and he adds a wealth of experience in that area.

I'm a big critic of the front office, but there's no way anyone can complain about hiring someone with a solid track record. IMO, this move, along with involving Modrak in personnel decisions is a demonstration that DJ's decisions were poor ones.

Hiring Nix is also somewhat of a compromise to not having a real GM. Sure, Brandon is the "COO" but he has no power as evidenced by DJ's retention. All in all, Nix is better than not having him.

I think hiring Nix is a good move as well. I lived in San Diego from 2002 - 2006 and saw the Chargers play regularly to include the Bills getting blown out in 2005(?). Anyway, the Chargers during that time drafted a number of good players to include LB Merriman, RB/KR Sproles, and DT Castillo who are all good players. There are other good players that were drafted by Nix and he appears to evaluate talent pretty well.

  15. I'm trying to give Lynch the benefit of the doubt but he has judgment problems to say the least. I like the way he runs and he never gives up on a play but just how good is he as a player? As good as Adrian Peterson? No. Is he worth the problems and headaches that he is bringing to the team? Not sure. He is arguably one of their better players but is that really saying all that much? Wilson said it himself that the team lacks enough talent. Even if this is cleared up in Lynch's favor and in the Bills favor, do you think that this will be his last transgression? I don't think so. He has had 2 seasons of 1,000 yards each and he has had two offseasons with 2 distractions. I think he will be suspended this time (Remember, even he is not convicted he can still be suspended by the NFL) and will leave the Bills in a tough spot. Do they keep him and cross their fingers or do they pull the trigger and get rid of him? I think at some point, sooner or later, they will tire of his poor judgment and they will pull the trigger.

  16. Obviously we can't tell anything about the EFA, RFA, and FA's now but of the guys under contract who do you think?

This includes total contract at the time of signing and what they are worth now.

    My votes are:

    Most overpaid: Tie:

Derrick Dockery, 3/2/2007: Signed a seven-year, $49 million contract. The deal contains $18.5 million guaranteed, including a $16 million signing bonus. $8.1 million of the signing bonus was paid immediately. 2009: $2.75 million, 2010: $4.5 million, 2011: $5.65 million, 2012: $6.575 million, 2013: $6.775 million, 2014: Free Agent

    Aaron Schobel, 8/24/2007: Signed a seven-year, $50.5 million contract. The deal contains $21 million in guarantees, including Schobel's first four base salaries. 2008: $1.5 million, 2009: $3.5 million, 2010: $6.025 million, 2011-2012: $6.5 million, 2013: $8.5 million, 2014: Free Agent

I'm leaning more toward Dockery because he really hadn't done much before getting his contract and he seems just ordinary. If he makes the Pro-Bowl this year then maybe he'll start earning it.

Schobel had injuries this year but that has to factor in to it a bit. If he stays healthy this year then I think Dockery will win the award outright.

    Most underpaid:

Marcus Stroud: 4/14/2005: Signed a five-year, $31.5 million contract. The deal included a $6.5 million signing bonus and contains $12.5 million in total guarantees. 2008: $3 million, 2009: $3.5 million, 2010: $4 million, 2011: Free Agent

This is assuming Stroud doesn't get a contract extension and raise this offseason and I'm pretty sure he will be given one.

    Josh Reed, 3/17/2006: Signed a four-year, $10 million contract. The deal included a $2 million signing bonus. 2008: $1.825 million, 2009: $2.025 million, 2010: Free Agent

Ralph Wilson is the most overpaid Bill and Bills fans are the most underpaid. They should have paid us to attend last year's games after the 5-1 start!
