  1. Actually, half-squat, I would disagree 101% with our 100% and say that it's not a loser's attitude. If you stop and think about it, it takes more balls to say, "here, we'll give you the ball to start off, b/c I know that you can't score regardless." It means that you're not afraid of the other team or their pathetic offense, and those prissy pansies won't move the chains past the 5yd line on us!
  2. while it's not exactly relevant, in Madden 08 I would always kick off (not exactly "deferring"), and never chose to receive the ball if I won the coin toss. Knowing that my defense was coming on gave me a hard-on every time, and I also had the second-half cushion of getting the ball back in case an act of god occurred and the other player happened to score some points. 228W-13L. Unfortunately, I can't say that our real-life defense affects my blood-flow the same way.
  3. why the heck was Crowell shut down for the year, but yet this bum just lingers around wasting a spot?
  4. I actually agree with this post to a certain extent. Seeing Denney, Kelsay, and K. Williams all lined up during the same play the other day made me sick to my stomach. Add in Schobel, and i'm fairly certain (w/o doing a search), that the Bills have the most white players on any D-line in the NFL. "High motor" and "high character" perhaps, but "low production" and "lack of talent" indeed. Then again, someone could turn it around and say "what about a D-line that's all black." Knife cuts both ways, but with the Bills, I think there seems to be an emphasis on "high character" which apparently is translating at OBD to an overabundance of weak, less talented players on this team..that happen to be white.
  5. lol...I don't know. I really think Roscoe has been used so poorly in the receiving dept. that we have no idea how good he is. I'm sure if he was playing in Indy or NE they would find a way to utilize him more in the passing game. In all honestly, I forgot to put "etc." at the end of that sentence. But ya, same would apply to the rest of the WR's. However, I'm really starting to have some doubts about Hardy. Other than that catch against Jax for a TD, as big as it was, he has done absolutely NOTHING this year...and by nothing, I mean he hasn't even given us a body of work to judge him by. He's played 13 games and has 9 receptions for 87yds and 2td's. horrible.
  6. I wouldn't mind Hasselbeck either. Again, this is not to say that I don't like Edwards and want to move on, but if Edwards shows us nothing these next 3 games (assuming he plays them all), then we really need to reconsider our options. (IMO) I don't even really mind if he makes mistakes either these next three games. All I want to see is him be comfortable playing football, and not look terrified to throw the ball even when he's given 6 seconds in the pocket. Another poster mentioned the KC game...that was a solid game for Trent, but I want to see him play at least respectably against a team that has a better than .250 winning percentage; something he has yet to do.
  7. McNabb isn't 37, I think he's still 31 or 32..def. still in his prime. In fact, I think he's around the same age as P. Manning/Brady and co. give or take a year. Look at Collins in Ten. or even someone like Frerotte in Min., Warner in Ariz, etc. etc. We need someone who's capable of moving the chains and has enough moxie to score once we get into the redzone. We haven't been able to score TD's in the redzone since Bledsoe/Henry. Also, McNabb is used to playing in crappy weather and wouldn't go into a little shell when it gets cold out. In my opinion, he would be perfect for this young team and would immediately take Evans and Roscoe to a new level.
  8. lol..wow. Im only 26, and feel as though I've experienced enough (wide right + 3 more SB defeats, music city miracle, etc.), but I wouldn't exactly equate my misery to those things you describe.
  9. If Trent shows us something down the stretch (by something I literally mean ANYTHING--a freaking touchdown in 3 games would do at this point), I'd still want to give him a shot to regroup in the offseason and start going into next year. However, lets say that Trent continues to be as horrible as he has been since the SD game, what the heck are we going to do? I personally don't want to draft another QB...JP will be gone (not that it matters really)...are we going to go into the '09 season with a QB who's literally afraid to play the game and is turning out to be made of glass? What would it take to get McNabb in here and does anyone think it would be a realistic possibility? Would it even make a difference if we maintain the same coaches? I'm starting to think P. Manning would be very average on our team with this playcalling. Thoughts?
  10. i agree and believe that this defense is probably 2 players away from being very good. Of course, those two players must also be very good. If Schobel can remain somewhat productive next year and we're able to get a solid passrusher in the draft to help him out on the other end, I think that would be def. enough to put us as a top tier defense. You can't run a tampa/cover 2 effectively w/o creating pressure, I honestly don't even know how this defense is statistically as good as it has been w/o being able to create pressure. For me, we have to address DE first, then followed by a LB to either move Poz over or to replace Crowell/Ellison. Upgrading at those 2 positions is enough for defense in the offseason..the rest is about depth. In my opinion, either Kelsay or Denney are going to have to go/be cut somehow...does anyone know what the cap hit would be by cutting one of them? We might be better off in the long run. Offense, however, is another story.
  11. i actually think there are a few players on this team that would be stars on many other teams mainly b/c they would be utilized like/how they should be under the right schemes. Lynch, Evans, Roscoe, Whitner all have the ability to be to be "star" material on other squads for sure. (imo) Speaking of which, how pathetic is it that we have some potentially explosive players on offense but yet are unable to get them the ball or make plays that bring out the best in them. How freakin pathetic really. We're wasting evans and roscoe on this team, and we'll soon be wasting lynch as well.
  12. For me, what hurts most by far this year is the fact that the stars appeared to align themselves for us..only for us to squander it all. The jets, while better than last year, are beatable. The world-beater pats are very beatable this year. The dolphins, while better, aren't anything special. The division was finally ours to either win, or at least be able to get a wild card..who knows, maybe even begin to turn the tides in the AFC east for a few years? Obviously that was way too much to ask, and here we are.. in LAST. Next year we get to look forward to seeing Brady beat us by 35 again. Can't wait.
  13. LMAO. That just might work. Seriously, I'm not sure how the bills would sell it. I guess it still depends on how things finish (as silly as that sounds now). But if Trent is able to come back and maybe give us a couple of wins with respectable (dare I say actually throw a TD or two?) performances, I think it would at least build some hope for next year. However, if Trent continues to struggle like he has, there really won't be anyway to sell anything to the fans short of firing Jauron and hiring a reputable coach...and maybe performing a public flogging of Ralph.
  14. ya, I agree with you that coaching is definitely a factor with the playcalling in certain situations. I personally don't mind a pass-happy offense, b/c (in my opinion), it's what this offensive line can do best (pass protect). Lets face it, they've been struggling running the ball the past 2 years already. A greater problem that I have is with the run plays they sometimes decide to do. Wasn't it the San Fran game that we were in the red zone and it was 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 and we run some crappy play with fred jackson (not lynch which pissed me off even more) and get stuffed...God I can't remember the exact play right now..b/c our list of crappy plays are starting jumble together in my head and becoming indistinguishable from one another =(. Also today, we try the wild cat play with lynch and we may be the only team in the league that is able to run such a play and make it look as simple and uniform as possible. It's def. play seclection to a certain extent, but for me, more so in key situations than in genernal. However, it's gotten to a point where it goes beyond simple play calling and our players are clearly not able to make plays regardless of what's called. Today: Lynch would've had a CLEAR first down in that one play where JP fumbled, picked it up, scrambled and got it off...he dropped it with nobody around him...end of drive. punt. Royal...drops a pass that was thrown right to his head Another drive, Hardy drops a catch that would've given us a critical first down in their territory. Granted, the defensive player made a solid play, but if you're hardy, you can't let the guy strip the ball from you there. Preston snaps the ball in a shotgun formation as if JP was right under center (that may have been the same drive as up above). kills momentum JP overthrows Roscoe when he has more than a step on the defender in the opening drive I think it was. Had the pass been on target, roscoe probably takes it for a touchdown. The throw to evans in the endzone to me is clearly a coaching mistake (made worse by the lack of execution by JP), b/c evans was clearly the target from the moment the ball was snapped. no hesitation, so I'm assuming that was called. Why did we draft Hardy again? Talk about a soon-to-be BUST. So ya, coaching is obviously a joke and I think Jauron should go at the end of the year, but players on this team right now are incapable of walking in a straight line without tripping over themselves...and they've been this way for the past month and a half.
  15. Ya, theoretically our o-line is built to run and manhandle people. In reality, however, our 0-line simply can't move the opposing team's d-line and gets dominated at the line of scrimmage game in game out. To their credit, they have been able to pass protect pretty well, and when they do we have 2 inept QB's who are unable to find an open receiver. In other words, we're failing on all cylinders. At the beginning of the year, what all the analysts and many bills fans realized is that this team was neither great nor horrible at any one specific area of the game. Taking advantage of our early schedule to open 5-1, our ST, offense, and defense were all performing somewhat solidly, though certainly not spectacular. What we have seen since is a complete debacle offensively and the other parts of our game simply aren't dominant enough to overcompensate. Though I must admit, with how bad our offense has been, it doesn't matter what our ST and defense do or don't do...3 offensive points for two weeks in a row won't cut it in pee wee football let alone the NFL.
  16. Ya, it has become pretty unwatchable. It seems that the bills just find a way to beat themselves either physically or mentally. I really don't know what to make of this team. I try and sit down and think, "ok, exactly what elements of this team give me hope for the future?" Unfortunately, the list I come up with is short and undistinguished. Just a couple of quick observations thus far that I think srike at the heart of our problems: 1. Our O-line. I don't think, in all of my years of watching football, that I've ever seen an O-line be as big, yet as soft as our guys. I have to hear during every game how big they are, but yet not one broadcaster mentions how incapable they are at moving the pile 1 inch from scrimmage. To me, this is a fundamental problem that affects our coaches playcalling in critical situations. Now, I don't have the exact numbers, but I'd be willing to bet (I've watched all of the games) that from last year to this year (our o-line is essentially unchanged), we have to have one of the worst 3rd and short conversion rates in the NFL. It is truly pitiful. We have a RB like lynch, and a huge offensive line, but yet can't get any freaking leverage in third or fourth and shorts. At critical moments, we always get stuffed. I think this then also affects playcalling when we get into the redzone and close to the endzone b/c we're completely incapable of just pounding in for a TD and the coaching staff knows this. We need a considerable upgrade at C and possible RG during the offseason imo. We truly need to get an O-lineman with a mean-streak who'll be willing to crack some skulls. 2. Our D-line. Ironically, in similar yet contrasting fashion to the above, our defensive front is one of the smallest and weakest lines in the entire NFL. If I recall, I think we went a span of 3 or 4 games this season and only generated something like 1.5 sacks. This d-line goes well beyond being inept at creating pressure and ventures into the realm of absurdity. How in the world do our coaches expect to effectively run a cover/tampa 2 defense while not generating any pressure on the QB? I'm willing to cut them some slack b/c of the loss of Schobel, but to me, Schobel is already approaching (if he hasn't already) the end of his prime, and shouldn't be counted on in the future to register double-digit sacks. Surprisingly, despite our pathetic D-line play, our defense hasn't been THAT bad this season and has held us in some games...so even though we need D-line help, to me, our offense is still a greater concern. I'm sure it has been said over and over again, but it's blatantly obvious to me, that if this franchise intends to turn things in the right direction, we're going to have to get nastier in the trenches. I'm sick and tired of high-octane "character" guys who might put in a great effort but simply lack the physical tools to compete at a high level in this league. I could also give 100% effort on the field, but wouldn't expect any team to start me at LE. Somehow, despite Kelsay, Denney's, and Schobel's unwarranted contracts, we're going to have to overcome our weakness in the trenches and sign some FA's and/or continue to draft heavily in these areas. For me, it's the only way to turn things around.
