  1. The real story is why wasn't Ralph at the game? Does he normally watch games in Detroit? Think there might have been medical problems?

As much as a lot of people on this board spew about Ralphie being cheapie, WTF are we gonna do if Ralph keels over today or tomorrow? I for one am hoping for a prolonged death for as long as possible.

Come on now...you are pulling for a man to suffer because of an NFL football team that plays a silly game for our entertainment? What a disgusting commment...

Do you even realize the amount of money he donates to charity and the positive impact he has on many? I have seen other posts hoping he would just die already so we can progress as a team...same thing I see and hear from Raider fans about Al Davis...

No wonder people hate our country...we value entertainment of a silly game more than human life...what a joke...anyone posting stuff like this should just be banned...

  2. You do realize this is the least meaningful stat EVER, right?

    Exactly...

Archie Manning - 35-101-3 that is a horrendous record, yet he is considered one of the better QB's to have played this game by most...

Trent Edwards had how many wins his last year at Stanford? Oh yeah, ZERO...

So I love how people like to point out JP's win loss record when the team he played on doesnt even remotely resemble this team, had terrible play calling, was never given a chance to succeed, needed at least 2 full years of play in the same system, which he never had, etc.

I think both of our QB's have potential and I just dont get why everyone hates this kid JP who has been NOTHING BUT A PROFESSIONAL in all of this and NEVER a distraction when he would have been justified in making some waves the way he has been so mishandled.

  3. Yeah yeah, I know wins & losses should not come down to the qb. BS, qbs in this league are judged by wins & losses. You guys do not want to judge losman by wins & losses, you do not want to judge him by yards thrown, what do you want to judge him by?

You contradict yourself here saying yeah yeah YOU KNOW wins and losses should not come down to the qb, then follow it up saying BS, they are judged by wins and losses.

Many people consider Archie Manning one of the better QB's to ever play in this game, yet his win vs. losses ratio is TERRIBLE because he played on bad teams. TRENT EDWARDS didnt win a game in his last year at Stanford, and yet he had a lot of buzz about him and Walsh loved the kid based on him, not wins and losses.

JP played on a different team that had one of the worst pass blocking and run blocking offensive lines in football. That was pre Dockery, Walker, and our pro bowler Peters. JP had the incumbent McGahee and no Lynch/Fred Jackson combo that can catch out of the backfield to help bail him out when nothing was open down field...JP had a worse offensive coordinator (twice)...JP had a inexperienced Evans (who by the way had his best year with JP) with no #2 as good as Reed is playing this year (which is saying a whole lot) and a Head Coaches worse than we have now.

When TE took over that year they CHANGED the game plan for him to succeed. With JP, they took chances and try to push the ball, with TE they played not to take chances or turn the ball over, so it made Trent look like he was better at protecting the ball, which he has CLEARLY showed he is not this year with his fumbles and bad picks.

So hold off on your wins and losses debate and statistical debate as this years team is a completely different makeup than when JP had his shot. Also, Brees looked awful his first 2 FULL years of starting, JP never had 2 FULL years of starting to learn, had the offensive coordinator and philosophy changed several times, and never got a chance to settle into and learn a system.

I dont care how much you people want to hate this guy, but he has shown lots of potential, lots of YOUNG QB mistakes, has NEVER EVER BEEN SET UP TO SUCCEED HERE, and he has been a total PROFESSIONAL about his situation never becoming a distraction when losing his job and kept any issues in house and only talking about his status in the off season. The guy has been a stand up guy despite all the crap we put him through yet you all hate on him like he was T.O.

  4. Yes JP's game was much worse than what TE did agaisnt Miami and the Jet's. I'll grant you the other three games TE was as bad as JP, but those two games, excuding the turnovers, he played well, moved the ball, got first downs etc. And there was no one else doing anything offensively, no running game, poor blocking. So I really can't fault TE in those two as no one else did anything and TE did do many things right. TE also had five strong games where he looked real polished. JP even when he won, hardly ever played a strong game. The best game I can recall JP playing where he had pretty close to a complete all around good game was last year agaisnt the Bengels. In some other games JP had maybe 75 yards or so.

JP had many more productive games than you are giving credit to him for, even one game with 2 80yard+ TD's to Evans against the Fins...

  5. Oh, I had no idea that grown men should be able to play football as soon as they're drafted and need no mentoring whatsoever. My bad.

So based on this, we should get rid of McKelvin because he bites on fakes all the time. And don't even get me started on Hardy, who clearly should also get cut given how many balls he's dropped.

    Produce or get out.

    Got it.

I agree...the players on the field need to be the ones that played their way onto the field. Hardy does not deserve playing time over Steve Johnson. Personally, I am unimpressed with Roscoe as a WR too. Sure, if you get him the ball in an open space he is dangerous, but he cant get open often enough and is more of a situational player or special play designed for him player. I would like to see a WR corp of this...move Roscoe down and bring him in for plays designed for his unique talents only, give Johnson his #3 spot, put Hardy at #4. Who cares who was drafted where, been here longer, etc. Put the guys on the field that earned that spot and I think Johnson is showing he can be a factor given more playing time. Might even play his way into the #2 spot going into next year.

    1. Evans

    2. Reed

    3. Johnson

    4. Hardy

    5. Roscoe

  6. If JP starts, mark my words, there is no way in hell, knock on wood hell, that the Bills beat the Dolphins. Totally 100% absolutely 100% percent impossible (PERIOD)

Posts like this are so absurd and have no football merit what so ever. You say this as if JP has never won a game in the NFL or is in capable of winning a game, when in fact he won a decent amount of games with less talent than the Bills have now and has beat teams that have more talent than this Dolphin team.

You should try posting a post that has some kind of actual merit that some lame post directed at just saying you dont support JP, who last I checked, was a member of this team and the guy has been totally professional going about his situation of losing the starting gig to TE.

  7. a lot of people's #1 reason for believing that trent edwards is the real deal is that he's not JP Losman

<_< right on the money I think with that...awesome...

funny thing is if we had someone a highly touted backup who hasnt had a chance to plya yet like say a Brady Quinn on our bench, this forum would probably be calling for Edwards head right about now.

  8. There isn’t a whole lot more to the Bills’ complete decline since the mid-90’s than this:

They haven’t had a good quarterback since Jim Kelly retired.

That’s it. Nothing more to it. They had two playoff seasons with Flutie, but make no mistake, that team was never going to win the Superbowl. Flutie was an average QB. Exciting to watch, for sure, but certainly no better than average. Since then, their best season came in 2004 when Bledsoe lead the team to a 9-7 record, losing to the Pittsburgh backups in week 17 and failing to make the playoffs.

Fast forward to the present: No quarterback, no playoffs. Period. Unless you have a very good defense AND running game, and sometimes that’s not even enough. Want proof? Thought you'd never ask! Likely playoff teams:

AFC – Tennessee (#6 rushing offense and #5 defense), Baltimore (Flacco and #2 defense), NYJ (Favre and #4 run defense), Denver (Cutler), Pittsburgh (Big Ben and #1 defense), and Indy (Manning).

NFC – NYG (Manning, #1 rushing team, and #3 defense), Tampa Bay (Garcia and #4 defense), Carolina (Delhomme, #7 rushing offense, and #11 defense), Minnesota (#4 rushing offense and #8 defense), Arizona (Warner and #10 defense), and Dallas (Romo and #9 defense).

So there you have it. The fact of the matter is that the Bills have NO quarterback, and the defense and running game are not nearly dominant enough to compensate. Edwards isn't the answer, neither is Losman. You want to get better? Go get a quarterback. Period.

Good detective work...so you are saying a top QB, dominating running game and dominating defense will get us a championship...lmao...in other words pretty much a dominating team in all aspects of the game as you just about mentioned every single component of a team...whole defense, running game, and the passing game with a great QB.

  9. First you should know I went out and bought a Trent Edwards jersey this year and have high hopes for him. So, I am not posting this to bash him, im just puzzled on how so many people on here can be so certain he's the next great thing because I just don't see it right now.

    1. His 4th quarter comebacks this year. I love that he did this, but this is severly overrated. Those come backs were against bad teams with bad a defense. So what does that mean? It means he didnt move the ball well in the majority of the game against bad teams and had to make a comeback. Also, other players made some BIG key plays late in those games to bail him out. Hardy's amazing catch in Jax, Lynch bailing him out on 3rd an long several times and making tremendous plays and broken tackles to get the first down when TE dumped it to him 8 yards or so short of the first down...etc...I could go on and on. So, yes, he had some comebacks, but he got too much credit for them and the fact that we won overshadowed some of the offensive struggles the rest of the game.

    2. His "decision making" - I just dont get this...his decision making the last several weeks has been horrendous and often looks scared to even attempt a throw down field. He made a lot of bad decisions last year too...including 2 INT's in the redzone in 2 different games that were returned for TD's costing us those games on ill advised short out patterns. So, he has a body of work that I would say demonstrates good decision making and another equal size body of work that says just the opposite.

    3. His "quick decisions" - Huh? where has this been? He takes a LOT of bad sacks and often holds the ball longer than JP and Bledsoe combined. JP's problem was that he has too much confidence in his feet and thinks he can always extend the play by running around instead of throwing the ball away. TE actually can have a tremendous amount of time in the pocket and still get sacked becuase he wont let go of the ball.

    4. His "poise" - Well this is all shot to heck...he has NOT dealt with adversary well and literally looks shell shocked during this rough run the last half of the season to the point he is hesitant to throw down field and fails to see open WR's in favor of a short dump off patern.

    5. He's a "winner" - How is he a winner?...he didnt even win a game his last year of college. He has a mediocre record with the Bills and most wins are against teams we have way more talent than at most positions, so how does that make him the winner?

    6. The dude is injury prone...big time...at all levels of football he hasnt been able to stay on the field...thats just fact.

I will be the first to admit I was high on this kid and I am still pulling for him to pull out of this. At times when things went our way, he looked like he had the calm demeanor and poise that made Montanna and Brady so good. Then things get rough and he looks more like Hannah Montanna out there than Joe Montanna. There are more bad games under this kids belt than good games and yet he is still talked about like he is the savior here.

  10. This team needs fresh air and new blood and Bobby April or Dom Capers is neither fresh air and new blood. Raheem Morris is being called the next Mike Tomlin who you apparently feel is another George Seifert. That's a ridiculous statement. Tomlin is clearly going to be the next great NFL head coach.

I am still laughing over this statement...I love how a guy can take over a powerhouse and win with them and he is "clearly" the next great coach"...what an outlandish statement.

So, if Mularkey takes over the Pats next year and they win 14 games with a healthy Tom Brady is he now the next great head coach? I mean he is having success again as a coordinator and there is talk he is going to be a HC candidate again.

What if Kurt Rambis took over the Lakers this year as head coach and they win the whole thing? Does that mean he is the next great NBA HC because he won the championship with all that talent? No way...doesnt mean hes not a good coach, just means there is nothing there to really show how good or bad he is...

Thats the absurdity to say Tomlin is "clearly the next great HC" when all he did was make the playoffs last year with a Super Bowl caliber team (that was actually only 1 year removed at the time from winning the Super Bowl).

He may end up being a great coach, heck I even like him, I am just saying he needs to PROVE he is that good before he is now the BENCH MARK for all young unproven coaches.

  11. Why in the world do you want the Bills to hire Dom Capers as the next head coach?! Could there be another former coach that is the mirror image of Dick "the biggest freaking loser" Jauron?! <_<

He will have the same career as both Cowher and Fischer. If you can't see that then maybe that's the reason why you are so high on April and Capers for the Bills head coaching position.

You should read my posts more carefully...I did not compare Tomlin to Seifert...I compared the situation of a coordinator coming in and taking over a top level team. Seifert took over a top talent team like Tomlin...had immediate success but couldnt sustain it in SF or find it again in his future coaching gigs...so his early success was inflated by the team he inherited.

So, I have not slighted Tomlin...I am clearly stating that until Tomlin can prove he can win once the makeup of his team changes then I am not going to anoit him the next great coach. He has proven exactly nothing to this point. Any professional coach in this league could win with that team right now including Gregg Williams, Mularkey, and DJ...the team is that good. He didnt build or engineer that team...he didnt even establish the way they play. They still play the same game they always have under Cowher.

Does that mean Tomlin is NOT a good coach?...no it doesnt...BUT does it mean hes a great coach...no way.

It means he has yet to prove how good or bad he is, only time will tell. He needs to prove he is not a product of his situation before I make him the bench mark for the success of young, unproven coaches. This team won a Superbowl with most of these same players just 3 years ago, so its not like he took over the Raiders and made them a contender.

If he took over a low level talent team and built them into what the Steelers were then I would understand all the hoopla.

  12. The Bucs had most pieces in place before Gruden arrived, but Gruden added the missing pieces that were necessary to go all the way & win the Super Bowl. After that year the Bucs were in cap hell, with no money for free agents & no high draft picks for a few years. The Bucs are a dark horse to get to the Super Bowl this year. If they beat the Panthers on Monday they should win ths NFC South.

Uh, Gruden didnt add a single piece to that team...he won in his very first year...

  13. Your reply is silly because you didn't even understand my original post.

Plus where did I say Oman is a bust?

I mentioned pass catching first and foremost with Hillis.

I think Brandon Jacobs proved even last year you keep on the lookout for guys that size who can run.

Like we couldn't use a fullback who can do what this kid does.

He had over 100 yards rec as a fb against the fins.

And how do you know Denver wouldn't have given him more carries as the season progressed in his rookie year even without injuries?

We use ML and FJ on the field at the same time.

You don't know they wouldn't have just as you don't know Oman would have produced in Denver.

I'm not saying he will not go back to fullback, but even then he's proven a weapon. Nothing against Oman I'd like him to succeed because he's on our team, but I don't see him having the success Hillis will have if he stays healthy simply because the physical talent is greater.

My point was, you cant sit back and say this guy is better than that guy when only one guy has had a chance to play. Hillis is running in a system that makes EVERY RB into a star, even Tatum Bell, Mike Bell, etc...have all succeeded there and stunk every where else...So, Hillis is just as likely a product of that system as he is talented. Have you seen Oman play? The kid has potential, and I can honestly say that I think he would excel in that Denver system which is perfect for his running game.

  14. Wow, it would be really nice to have a Fullback on the roster that we could use as more of an offensive weapon. Mcintyre does well at what he is asked to do, but it would be nice add an offensive threat.

Bigger question! Why did we waste a late round pick on a Running Back when we had three healthy young RB's and when we needed a lot of depth at other positions?

This is a more appropriate question...we had other needs ahead of RB, thats for sure. But Oman is a talent with lots of potential...just not gonna be a chance for him to show it unless some peeps start getting hurt.

  15. Many tend to discount Capers' early success with the Panthers (and Coughlin's similar early success with the Jags) due to the unprecedented advantages the 1995 expansion teams were given when they entered the league. It should also be noted that Capers benefited from Bill Polian's slash-and-burn approach to build a SB champ in an unheard-of two-year period.

Of course, those who dismiss Caper's early success as a fluke, don't seem to cut him any slack on the team's decline after 1996. The Panthers had to pay the price of Pollian's efforts for several years after he left for the Colts. As you mentioned, his stint with the Texans was also atypical.

I just don't see him as the kind of guy you bring in to follow Jauron. He might end up being good, but he isn't anywhere near a slam dunk, which is what this team needs, IMO, if they decide to change coaches now.

I hear ya...there are several guys I would prefer over Capers, but Capers was always considered a pretty good football mind and coach. I was just saying, it wouldnt be the worst thing. I am sure lots of people sighed when Couphlin took over in NY too...seems to have worked out. I actually think he could be a good fit here. I prefer a couple other coaches first, but I wouldnt be upset to see Capers

  16. I don't know why you're getting on Silver's case, I've been the one guy trying to getting Morris' name out there.

Did you know that Mike Tomlin was never a defensive coordinator? In fact he had the same position that Morris holds at Tampa when he was hired by the Steelers, secondary coach. The Steelers smartly decided to hire a guy that was an authentic football coach. Is that what Raheem Morris is? Well you're right in that we have not much to go on but an article, but that doesn't mean that he can be dismissed as not being the real deal.

I'm not going to apologize if I do take Monte Kiffin and Rhonde Barber at their word on this guy's future as a football coach. Two guys, brilliant football coach and a current player who's had a great career. These guy's glowing support should at least be enough for the Bills to take a serious interest in him as a potential head coach.

The Bills should smartly do what the Steelers did and hire an authentic football coach. We know what we get with an NFL retread...no excitement, no direction, no creativity. Is that what you want? How about the Bills hire a guy that truly will light a fire under this team like the rookie coaches in Miami and Atlanta have done who by the way were never NFL coordinators but positional coaches when then were hired.

Tired of gambling on inexperienced coaches? Since when was Dick Jauron considered an inexperienced coach after having spent 5 years in Chicago?

This team needs a guy who can in fact elevate the players' passion on this team. A retread will not do that. A guy like Morris would actually do that. If former positional coaches can change doormats like the Falcons and the Dolphins, there's no reason why a no frills tough guy like Morris couldn't do the same thing here.

Why does everyone anoit Mike Tomlin the next great coach? What exactly has he done? He took over a team where every single of his key pieces he has now at every key position was already in place. He didnt build this team and this team already won a Super Bowl pretty much with the same players he has now. In fact, if you watch the Steelers game (I have to watch every one since my best friend is a Steeler fan that I watch football with at the bar on Sundays), he has made lots of mistakes as a coach during games where his inexperience has hurt him. His best asset is his personality and fiery attitude, but that can only take you so far.

It also reminds me of George Seifert who took over a darn good 49ers team and won a super bowl. Then couldnt sustain the team and didnt do too well when he took over in Carolina. So, until Tomlin takes over a poor team and makes them a good team or keeps the Steelers amongst the Elite over a period of time, then I am gonna hold off on using him as the bench mark to judge new coaches because all he has done so far is win with a team that won the Super Bowl 3 years ago with basically the same team he has now.

Same goes for Jon Gruden...he took over a team built by Dungy, wins the Super Bowl and hasnt sniffed it since. Now that his stamp is on that team they havent done too well to the point there is talk he is on the hot seat if they dont make the playoffs.

So I reserver judgement on a guy like Tomlin until he can prove he can do it with his own team, not Cowhers, because that Steeler team is still the team Cowher won the Super Bowl with.

  17. Did you actually read the post or just part of the first sentence?

    I said,

Actually Turk Schonert is improving as he is learning,it just sucks that he is learning at the expense of the Bills losing.

I've been saying all season the guy is pass happy, the Bills get behind 7 points and he calls passing plays 95% of the time. ONE run for Marshawn in the 4th qtr is just plain stupid...considering he already had 120+ yards on the ground.

The Bills have a chance to be like the NY Giants if only Turk would grow a brain with the running game.

The 120 yards by Lynch is being a little over used...he got 50 of them on 1 carry and SF is considered a pretty good run D. If you take out that one run, and the 11 yarder, Lynchs numbers were modest at best on every other carry. And our O Line is terrible at run blocking.

Im not defending giving Lynch only one carry in the fourth quarter by any means, thats not a good balance. But, 61 yards on 2 carries makes Lynch and the O-line look like they were dominating consistently in that game, which they were not.

  18. And how is Oman exactly a bust? He plays behind two RB's that are pretty darn good and he is a rookie, so he isnt going to be stealing any time from them.

The best part about this is the fact that Hillis wouldnt even be a name anyone even knew if it were not for the FOUR RB's AHEAD of him getting hurt. So, guess that made Hillis a bust too until he got a chance to play by the way its being suggested Oman is a bust here.

Did it ever occur to anyone that we drafted Oman as a replacement next year for Jackson as the front office is probably pretty sure a talent like him will leave for a starting opportunity? So rather than hope to find a project RB in next years draft as a rookie behind Lynch, they took a guy this year who they saw potential in to sit and learn so he is ready for next season?

  19. I wonder what this guy will do to us? Another gaffe by our front office. If you missed the highlights from a few weeks back, maybe even more impressive than his running is his pass catching. Starts at 3:26 mark. Earlier on in the vid he shows his special teams talent.

    http://video.aol.com/video-detail/dolphins...s-17/1066442776

Ok, what a silly post...I mean really. The glaring issue I have with this post is that Hillis would not even have 1 carry this year on the Bills...he didnt even sniff the field in Denver until injuries happened. Last I checked, we had 2 dynamic running backs who have been healthy all year in Lynch and Jackson...so how exactly is Oman supposed to put up Hillis type numbers if he gets no real game time, no time with the first unit and wont unless some injurys happen?

The real question is what would Oman be doing right now if he was in Denver as the starting RB over Hillis? I bet you he would be doing just as good, if not better. He is buried on our depth chart, just like Hillis was until he got a shot due to injuries. The kid has a lot of upside and can run and catch, he just wont get that chance buried on the depth chart in Buffalo unless some people start getting hurt.

  20. Based on our track record, which coaching hires should we be terrified of coming to the Bills next season?

The ones I see us going with - tragically:

    Dom Capers

    Dave Wannestadt

    Perry Fewell

    Any others spring to mind?

Dom Capers took an expansion team to the Championship game in its second season and built a contender right away...his only other gig since was the Houston gig where the NFL screwed the Texans based on the success of Carolina and Jacksonville when they were expansion teams and gave them extra draft picks.

NFL set it up for the Texans to be a lousy team because the previous 2 had too much success too early with all the extra draft picks they got. So Capers didnt have the same effect in Houston and was labeled a bust when he really just had lousy team to begin with.

He was considered a pretty darn good football coach and got a lot out of his players...This wouldnt be such a bad hire. The other 2 you listed are terrible though...

  21. Why don't we promote Bobby April and give him a shot. The guy built a dominate special teams unit and we know of another former special teams coach who seemed to do well.

I could support an in house transition like this because he knows this team, is highly respected by the players, fiery, and considered the best at what he does. I still prefer an established coach though, I mean he is a special teams coach after all, so it leaves a lot of unknowns on how well he could manage a game as a HC, make adjustments, etc.

  22. I'd be very interested in getting behind Raheem Morris as HC of the Bills next year. Of all the non-Cowher options, I think he gives us the best chance to win a Super Bowl.

However, it's gotten to the point where I don't even care about the Super Bowl. I just want the team to not be a f-ing joke for the next three or four years. I'd be shocked if Marty Schottenheimer couldn't get us to 10-6 with a playoff berth and a first round exit, which sounds like the glory days compared to what we've had lately.

But he's an intensely frustrating coach, and we would unquestionably be outcoached in big games. But it'd just be nice to play in one first before looking to a replacement.

What exactly is there to base this on? Best chance at a Super Bowl? Not only is this guy not an experienced head coach, he is not even an experienced defensive coordinator. The guy is a DB coach and now all of a sudden he is the missing ingredient in getting us to the super bowl?

This guy is being all hyped up over a news article...if it wasnt for that article, most people wouldnt even know who he is. By the way...DJ is a coach the players say they love to play for...in fact, there are a lot of coaches who dont succeed despite the players loving to play for them, even busting their butts for them.

That is because there is more to coaching than player motivation/relations. The guy needs to know how to win games, strategize and game plan, make adjustments in game, handle internal issues, manage the game clock, run practice, deal with the media, make player decisions, determine starters on both D and O, in others words...run a whole team, not just a small piece of the defensive unit.

Im not saying he cant do it, but some silly article doesnt make him a great HC or mean he knows how to manage a game. In fact, in every instance lately where we have tried to find that new trendy pic (all who had more experience than him and were more highly touted than him) didnt pan out so well.

Im personally tired of gambling on the inexperienced, unproven guy...we have a YOUNG team and we need a proven, established, leader to come in here and develop this team...not some young guy learning on the fly just like our young players.

  23. Don't understand the love for Mariucci. He inherited a great 49er team and ran it into the ground and pooped the bed with the Lions.

He inherited a rebuilding 49ers who were old, retired and woeful and turned them around and made them relevant fast. He took a nobody in Jeff Garcia and turned him into a Pro Bowl QB. He did a great job in SF but the FRONT OFFICE and its horrible cap management ruined that team, plus T.O. became T.O. and tore that team down from the inside...

Detroit...come on man, you cant hold that on him...not even Bill Parcells could have won in Det with the talent they had and the busts they had in the draft...that was a lose lose situation for him. Which is why he wont be taking the St. Louis job if it comes open, he doesnt want to be put in that situation again working with that little talent.
