  1. Until and unless the economic situation in Buffalo is turned around the insults will continue. Everyone in the U.S. knows Buffalo is, and has been, a declining city and there is no way to avoid insults as a result.

Even aside from the economy Buffalo has a tough uphill battle because of the climate. Many people simply do not like the cold and dreariness associated with the winter. If Buffalo can find a way to celebrate the winter and turn it into a positive then some of the jokes will subside.

Finally, I do not know where these agents live but I suspect that many are attracted to a fast, celebrity oriented life. Cities like Buffalo will never fit that description. At its core Buffalo (and WNY) is a family centered region. The Bills and the Sabres are their celebrities. So if the players want to hang out with the Hollywood set it is not going to happen in Buffalo.

BTW people like you and i do not help WNY's cause much - we don't live there any more. In some ways trying to sing the praises of a particular place is a bit hollow coming from people that have left there.

  2. NFL Films is coming to film the New York City Buffalo Bills Backers tonight at McFadden's, they're going to have Michelle Beisner there reporting for the show "Starting 11" on NFL Network. Will post date/time it will air, but will be on sometime this week. If you're in the area, come on down!

I went to McFadden's one Sunday while in Midtown for a business trip. Wild time. My wife who does not have much interest in football loved it. Rowdy bunch, they do the Bills and WNY proud. Proved to those walking by on the street that Bills fans are beer drinkers with a football problem.

  3. Wonderlic scores:

    Leodis McKelvin - 13

Jim Kelly - 15 ( maybe they should call him dumbo instead of jimbo)

As subhuman as McKelvin's and Kelly's wonderlic scores are, there are worse in the NFL.

And Jim Kelly is a HOF QB!

What it clearly demonstrates is that football is certainly not a game that requires any intelligence whatsoever.

Not sure if your data is correct but those numbers fly in the face of Marv's "smart players learn to get better" mentality.

  4. GM is critical ut you also have to have a coach who is on the same page. TD was brought into Buffalo because he was a "talent guy." We all know how that sucked.

    Great teams have the following:

    1) Excellent line play

    2) A QB who plays well within the system

    3) A good coach

    4) A solid GM who works well with the coach

    NE has all of these.

Buffalo has not yet proven they can check off any single one of them. There have been hints that they are close.

  5. What I'm sick of is the constant complaining. I love coming to the boards to talk about the team, but when we constantly see complaints about how horrible Jauron is when there is nothing that any of us can do about it, it gets old....fast.

No, I'm not one of those "fans" who blames the QB for every loss and is "happy with the losing mentality". I was a fan during the Joe Ferguson & Joe Cribbs era (you guys know who they are, right?) and during the 2-14 years in the early-mid 80s. I love the team and I will always follow the team. Kelly is one of my all-time favorite players, too.

I don't jump ship during a 3-game losing streak and claim that "I'm done with this team. I'm now rooting for the <current team with the best record in the league>." I'm a bills fan through & through. I'll root for them in Buffalo, Toronto, LA, or Puerto Rico, if need be.

So when I say give it up, I mean it. It's tiring to see everyone here complain & gripe for days on end. Let's move on to Monday night w/o the sarcasm. I'd rather talk about what they need to do and how....instead of looking back at how things went bad. I'm pretty sure the players & coaches are doing the same.

I like the thoughts. However, one of the purposes of a forum like this board is to allow for communication. People who want to complain are more apt to do so vs. those who have something favorable to say. There has actually been research done on this relative to customer service - I believe the statistics ended up saying that if the average consumer had bad service somewhere they were likely to tell five people. If they had good service they were only likely to tell one person.

In some ways the fans of this board are following the same trend.

Like you, I would prefer to see less complaining but given their hot start this year and at best the mediocrity of the last decade it is hard not to be down at the moment. I hope some stability at coaching, qb and the front office leads to better things in the seasons to come but I also want tot see these guys learn to win now.

  6. How about this one from Jauron:

"They play hard and we couldn't prepare any harder. (insert name) is a good teammate and works hard."

    Translation:

"This team has to work hard because there is not enough talent on the roster to win otherwise. The coarches are also not willing to be creative with our game plans so we often do not set the team up to win anyway. (insert name), I can't think of anything original to say about him."

  7. Perry Fewell indicates this to be the case when he called him a "playmaker" and laments his loss due to injury. The drop in D-line play also suggests this is the case. Perhaps we do not give him enough credit. Bill's are 13th ranked D without him. However if you were to measure only the last games played without him the ranking would be significantly worse - in the bottom third.

I know some of you will argue too many other variables. While he is no Bruce Smith, Schobel does appear to be a key piece of the defense.

  8. However, I also firmly believe that there's still nearly half the season to be played. So all the talk of whether this season is an improvement or bust or whatever, at this point, is premature. Why can't we just watch the games trying to enjoy the good; living with the bad? There'll be plenty of time to piss and moan after the season.

Good perspective but hate to lose opportunities to whine B-)

  9. Its hard not to be pessimistic when you lose three division games in a row and looked pitiful while you did it. I admire the sentiment behind starting the thread but the glass is half empty right now as the bills will need to be nearly pefect for the remainder of the season if they hope to sniff the playoffs.
