  1. Already did my time on the grill for lunch because the baby woke up at 5 am.

I have her in her Bills inside of course

  2. Once again, I'll do my small plug for NFL+ Premium. $100 a year for live radio streams and NFL Sunday ticket, replays available almost immediately after the game, All-22 footage. It's a quarter of the price I paid in 2023 for Sunday Ticket to watch 3 Bills games live that I couldn't have watched without it.

Plus it's for the full year so I can rewatch my favorite games from last year in the dead zone before training camp

Buffalo Joe gonna play his way into the lineup this season?

He might. Granted he's a bubble player but he's a special teamer, knows the system and we aren't overwhelmed with LB depth. They saw something in him that they didn't in Nick Morrow last year

  4. I will come out of my hole to evangelize for NFL+ Premium (for however long that lasts) because honestly it gives me way more for my money at $100 for the year. I have been an out of market fan for over a decade now so the struggle is real. I did NFL Sunday ticket when it (finally!) was offered as a separate package and it worked out to ~$100 per Bills game I watched on it. Between the sheer number of Primetime games I get all of them between services I already use (Sling for NBC & ESPN exclusively when it's football season and Amazon Prime because it's worth the money) and that the Bills are a main draw making free local broadcast a thing, more than half the season is already available for me to watch

NFL Premium doesn't let you see out of market games live. What is *does* do is give you NFL Red Zone and have the official streams to the WGR broadcast and...I'm not going to lie, I enjoying listening to the local radio team a whole lot more than Chris Collingsworth. There is a slight time delay where I will see a play on RedZone before I hear it, but the radio commenters give me the leadup and context to understand the play. Then, by bedtime, there is a full replay of the game for me to watch every minute over. Plus, as we hit the doldrums of summer, I can go back and rewatch my favorite games from last year.

Well I got the NFL Game Pass for about $150 and have all the games, including games that are on Netflix, Amazon or whatever... I can also watch them in 40 minutes, coaches film, Redzone and some other benefits. Playoffs and SB included aswell.

You have to be really dumb to pay for all of them separately.

Unfortunately, I think that's something that out of country fans only get.

    Ditto Sir

I am willing to pay for convenience and  access to content I can DVR. and no bad stuff come in my computer

Between my normal subscriptions I am content to just buy my NFL Sunday ticket. One less thing for me to be concerned about. and then its done,

Going to the bar especially here in San Diego is a BLAST. But its a long drive plus I used to enjoy some cocktails. and I wont drink and drive. It's just easier to see it from home. I'll go for a special event and I LOVE IT though.

My monetary and emotional investment in my football team is Major. But its my choice to pay and Im happy with it. And to me stealing is stealing.

I WILL be taking advantage of any discounts I can find wether it is pay early  etc.

Yeah I tried making a trip to my local Bills bar a thing but that was hard to do when I had time (now with kids) and it was hard on the wallet (even more with kids) and as I've drastically cut my drinking, not as much fun to hang around at.

My problem with Sunday Ticket was how little I got out of it.

Does Coleman need to improve?  Yup, no question.

But:  On a more optimistic note instead of just recycling the same WR and Coleman rants all the time…

When he got hurt week 11 he was on pace for 800-900 yards and 7+ TDs.  And to add more context to that, that is with:

    1 - Being a rookie

2 - Splitting reps and time

3 - Playing on an offense that saw its QB spread the ball around hitting 9-10 different targets that also ran the ball a lot.
4 - Played on an offense where due to blow out wins took the pedal off the gas for whole quarters and some halves and stopped forcing the air attack

5 - Missed the first quarter of a blow out win where the offense ran clock second half meaning he played like one or two series and caught his lone target for a long TD

6 - Was used as a blocker a lot because he was punishing people as a blocker, a major reason we didn’t try and bring Mack back.

Yes he has work to do…no doubt.  But some of you I think are MORE invested in him failing or validating your doubts than actually looking for positives to whether he can be a good player for us.

And if you want to know the real issue…I think he is playing out of position and should play the Z and let Palmer play the X.  And if we do that, and I think we might, don’t be surprised to see Keon prove some people wrong.

It’s like if people don’t think he can be a top 5 WR1 he is automatically trash and a whipping boy.  He can be a good player for us, even if it ultimately means it’s as a WR2 at some point.

And this is coming from me who told everyone (and a lot of people argued) that Ladd McConkey was going to be one the best WRs in this draft and I had him as WR5 behind Nabers, Harrison, Odunze, and BTJ.  I even said I don’t know we will take him for what they are looking for but I was terrified KC or Ravens would land him.

I loved Ladd coming out…but let’s not condemn Keon for not being Ladd and just constantly pile on him before he’s stepped on the field for his second year yet.  He’s a Bill…he loves it here…and Josh has publicly said Keon has been hitting him up all offseason on getting better.  So he seems to be putting in the work.

But man…the WR rants have been beaten to death around here.  Like what more needs to even be said at this point?

Thank you! The point I go back to was that everyone knew he was a project. At 2023 FSU the QB situation got so screwy his route tree was "go deep & make stuff happen on 50/50 balls"  and "short slant or screen"

Am I going to blame people for being impatient or wanting to see more? Hell no! I'm those things.

But if your entire argument is comparing rookie numbers against guys on the offensive juggernauts such as *checks notes* Jags, Giants, Cardinals, Raiders and Bears, where there was pretty much no other target you are working from a flawed premise

  6. Jesus guys. There was a stretch last year where Keon was running right around with Nabers to lead in rookie receiving yards before his got hirt. A lot of these others guys in his class effectively were their teams offenses in 2023, and Coleman was forecasted as a project in every draft profile I saw.

I there stuff to criticize about his game? Absolutely. Do I think he's going to magically be a top 15 receiver this year? No.

But c'mon guys, it used to be that you had to wait 3 years to see if a WR panned out and he's clearly putting work in

Let's at least get to training camp before we freakout

  7. I know it never works out exactly as expected regarding how difficult the path will be. That said, if the goal is to let rookies take their lumps early the first half breaks pretty favorably: no hot weather games, an perceived easier slate to start (after the Ravens) to break on rookies, there are only two back to back road games the entire season (there is a bye week buffer) with a gradual ramp up to road test in time for the playoffs

  8. After a moment of shock I am ok with the Ravens for opening week. I actually think they still outclass the Bills by a tiny bit, and Week 1 variance might help

Also as an objective fan of football a rematch of the divisional round in primetime is just good hype work

Interesting.  Jones could be cut this summer IMO.   Compromise.  22 snaps per game lol

ideally DaQuan is replaced by a larger veteran who is more true 1T

that would really complete a nice overhaul of the DT room

I will say that the way DaQuan's contract is set up, if whoever they see at 1T is way ahead of him or he is just washed, he is one of the few players who a June 1st cut makes sense for

  10. I mean I *am* that addicted but I've been cord cutting.

What has been great is that I sprung for NFL+ Premium for $100 a year. So not only did I get Red Zone and radio streams as an out of town fan I got all the replay. I think I want to rewatch the San Fran snow game, that was a fun one

Plus Cook, Davis, and Johnson sneaking out of the backfield

    Yep

I don't think we are going to have an elite receiving group. We don't yet have a guy that DCs lose sleep wondering how to cover.

What I think the Bills do have is a lot of average to good (some very good) players, and the variety to scheme up an attack week to week based on that teams weaknesses.

Are they bad against the run/inclement weather? Break out the jumbo sets and pound it.

Do they play heavy zone? Shakir is devastating against zone

Do they play heavy man? Well now we have Palmer and Moore (hopefully Keon) as man beaters.

I think that a 11 formation of Moore/Palmer at X, Coleman at Y, Shakir in the slot and Kincaid/Knox at TE and Cook/Davis/Ty is a replicable base offense to attack from

I love Moore's ability to separate,  his route running, and most of all the way he seems to so easily turn on the after burners once the ball is n his hands, no matter where he is on the field.  Can turn that speed on in the blink of an eye. At 24, I am assuming that he still has the dynamic quality, hoping:

I don't think any other receiver currently on the Bills has this specific set of skills. Beane is providing excellent diversity in the wide receiver room.  As this seems to be not just another player, another wideout, but another specific piece of the puzzle..

I do think there's a spot for him on the team simply because he can separate so well. What I'm liking is that we are overlaying strengths for redundency. I agree at the whole "positionless" framework. Right now the WR room is

Vertical burner: Palmer & Moore (Kincaid to an extent)

Red zone Power: Kincaid & Coleman & Knox

Middle of the field: Shakir & Samuel, Coleman, Knox

    Screens: Shakir & Samuel

Depending on what the opposing D likes to do, you can find all sorts of ways to stress them

To echo what others have said: I don't think you can do what Deone Walker did as a 19 year old in the SEC without having some serious talent.

At the same time, all of the concerns that accompany a man of his size, as well as his 2024 falloff (injury related or not) are valid considerations.

Put the two together -- his potential game-wrecking talent and the concerns on his tape and with his health/size/stature -- and you have exactly what the Bills got: a 4th round dart throw.

In my opinion, the risk-reward with Walker is worthwhile. If he hits, you have exactly what his new GM described: a 1st round caliber player and a steal and a guy who can impact games in a big way. If he flops, the cost was a 4th round pick. The potential negative impact of a 4th round pick busting is not, in my opinion, severe enough to warrant not taking the risk on a guy like Walker.

We all agree that the Bills need more difference makers and less "just okay to good" players around Josh Allen. Consider Deone Walker a definite swing of the bat with intent to hit a home run.

I agree that the boom/bust nature is likely why he made it to the 4th round. Heck I'm even ok with a redshirt year if he needs to rehab because of the talent flashed but with a 4th it's no skin off Beane's nose if things don't pan out

Both of you guys bring up the biggest question about Walker and also TJ Sanders for that matter.

The critics keep banging on "we don't have a true 1-technique," the argument being that we need to replace DaQuan Jones.

However there's some assumptions being made that should be questioned:

Are the Bills going to play the same defense that they've played in the past? They just hired a senior defensive assistant, Ryan Nielsen. They also have a new Assistant Defensive Line Coach in Jason Rebrovich. Are we sure we're going to be running the same schemes? Bobby Babich is entering his second year as DC. Cornerbacks Coach Jahmile Addae is entering only his second year with the Bills.

The drafting of Maxwell Hairston has raised speculation that the Bills might have a different defensive approach this year.

The drafting of TJ Sanders and Deone Walker should give rise to that same speculation.

There are lots of variants to the 4-3 defense... over and under just to name the most basic.

Without knowing for sure that the Bills are going to be wheeling out the same defense, it's a bit premature to judge whether these players are filling positions of need.

Not trying to blow smoke but I've wondered it as well. What are you using Hoecht for? Why was he a priority signing when his calling card is positional flexibility?

At the time I dug up this article about a 4-3 under

    https://weeklyspiral.com/2021/10/04/4-3-under/#google_vignette

Basically the advantge is that you'd give the 3 tech (Oliver, Carter, Sanders) a cleaner shot at penetration by shifting the attack to the weakside but the things you need:

-a 3 tech who can penetrate

-a weakside LB who you have to trust as play flows to them (Milano)

-a strongside LB who effectively plays as a 5th down lineman but who can fall back into coverage (Hoecht) that I would assume would be the 9 tech DE on nickel packages or swap to single S with Taron out playing

Is this going to happen? I have no idea. Do think it would be reasonable to at least have that as a subpackage for bringing pressure against, say, a run heavy team *cough Ravens* while keeping coverage options open? I'd say so. Would it explain chasing Hoecht and ignoring Safety (if you plan on just using 1 a lot of the time)? To my deluded brain it just might.
